Hi Jack, You seem like a genuinely Open and Nice Person, much more so than most of the People who are engineering the Disaster that's happening here in Asbury Park. The first thing that you might want to consider when talking about the Homeless resorting to Crime is that the below People were considered as Criminals throughout History, depending on your perspective, or that of which Side you believed in: Jesus Christ Gandhi Martin Luther King Thomas Jefferson ALL American Indians The Irish (I'm 1/4 Irish) etc., etc. You get the Point (?) MANY (But not All) People resort to Crime when there's NO other way for them to Survive! And Most Crime is actually INTENTIONALLY caused by the RICH to hold People down, as well as to keep People Against them fighting Each Other ... So they can't defeat the Rich! Tell me, WHY must 5% of the Population in the USA Control 90% of the Money and Real Estate Businesses? There's NO Justifiable Reason for it EXCEPT that they are Greedy, Inhumane and Egotistical .To use 3 of a possible 20 Words to describe them! Gluttons, as in the Bible! When People cannot Feed their Kids, Pay their Rent, pay Electricity or Heat, have no Medical Insurance, No Job Security or a Living Wage ... HOW can they be HAPPY and Secure? Do you Know that we are Supposed to Be Guaranteed a Safe and Secure Life BY our Government and Country, not to mention God each other. The Words All People are Created Equal and have the Right to Pursue Life, Liberty Happiness . HOW can one be Happy, when the Rich DENY them Housing, Food, Education and Medical Attention, even worse, deny them the right to OWN Property of their OWN? IF the Minimum Wage had just simply kept up with Inflation since 1970 ($1.75), it would be $14+ NOW, which is considered a Living Wage for Monmouth County! Do you know that to maintain a 2 Bedroom in NJ now with 2 Adults and one child costs $42,600 Just to pay Bills! Or an equivalent Home! In Asbury you have: NO Rent Control Average Apartment Rose 60-80% in 3 Years! NO Jobs to Mention ... Median Income is $24,400 NO new Affordable Housing in 15-20 Years 78% Minorities ... Does anyone know what the new tax rate is? I was looking at my quarterly statement and my bill will increase by $750 next year. What the ROI on that? It's called reality here in NJ. And I don't think you guys get revalued just yet. New tax bills arrived in Ocean Twp as well. That's why I love the ...only 1.23 per $1000 increase or however it gets worded. Never appears right. What will happen or should be happening soon, is that LANDLORDS will be forced out of the business (those that are looking for cash flow) as the taxes eat into the profits UNLESS the tenants can asborb the TAX INCREASES - meaning those barely or not making ends meet will leave at some point with no state sponsored housing. I don't know what the answer is to all this, but I can say this. Racism is disgusting to me. The other day, out of the blue when I was talking about AP with a contractor, he told a story about how his family owned a hotel in AP, and that they built a pool, and how he was disgusted one day to find the pool filled with monkees He wasn't talking about the kind of monkee one finds in a zoo either. What sickened me about this is that he thought it was ok to be racial in front of me, like he assumed i thought the same way he did. That attitude makes me sick, and it's sad that it's still happening to this day. I wish Asbury's multi-ethnic makeup could integrate more then it does. I wonder how many of the people trying to develop Asbury reach out to African Americans etc? Of course, that's a two way street as well. As for the economics of Asbury, I'm not sure if I want to engage in a Rich vs. Poor debate. I agree there's a huge gap in our economy, but one thing i'd like to say is that it's also up to people to do what they can with their lives. Sure, it's a rich persons country, but there's plenty of ambitious people, like myself, who work their asses off and carve out a nice life. New Jersey is really a joke when it comes to our economy, but I think that our economic woes are part of a bigger national picture. In my opinion, America has blown it in so many ways. We forgot about mom and pop, and now we give our money to mega retailers that sell mostly foreign goods. Once upon a time, America was the king of manufacturing, but not any more. I recently heard a report on NPR about the tee shirt industry, and how it's now dominated by China. I know that for the most part, we Americans love our freedoms and country, but I think we've sold out on our culture. We just becoming a big, predictable homogenized nation trying to get the rest of the world to believe in the American Way. [AsburyPark] Traffic Ticket prices have been increased in NJ
This was just forwarded to me by a friend. I did a little research before posting to see if it's legit, and it does appear to be; NJ is starting up a 30 day speeding ticket rally. From what I hear, every trooper assigned to this has to hand out 1 ticket every 10 to 20 minutes. They will be focusing in around this area so watch out. Here's what a New Jersey State trooper sent: Starting today (6/7/06), New Jersey will launch a 30 day speeding ticket frenzy. The state estimates that 9 million dollars will be generated in speeding tickets. 1 million will go to pay state troopers' overtime. There will 50 state troopers on duty at all times patrolling the 9 main intersections and highways. They are the following: I-295 north and south 1-95 (Jersey Turnpike) north and south 1-80 east and west I-287 north and south I-78 east and west 1-195 east and west 1-280 east and west Rt. 130 north and south Garden State Parkway north and south I'm warning everyone now that 5 mph above the limit can justify a ticket and every state trooper is supposed to pull a car over and write a ticket every 10 to 20 minutes. They have issued 30 brand new unmarked Crown Victoria cruisers and are bringing in all of their part timers on full time. If you work in NJ, NY, DE or CT you will probably take one of these highways. It's up to you how fast you are going when they clock you. 101.5 FM confirmed all of this. So be safe and don't forget speeding tickets are on you. You've been warned. Driving Ticket fine increase in NJ: Starting on August 15th, the price of a ticket for violation of NJ Law39:3-29 (failure to show your driver's license, registration, or insurance card at the time you are stopped) is going from $44.00 to $173.00. Please make sure your vehicles have the proper documents in them. If you jump in the car to run to the store and forget your wallet with your license in it and you are stopped Oh well... you just spent $173. And the fine for not having all three documents is $519!!! Forward to people in NJ, and let them know of this change. For instance, if the rescue mission was privately funded, they can control who sleeps in the available beds. Once they have to go outside the community and get public money, than the provider of the funds controls who sleeps in the bed. If I make $5,000.00 and apply it to the 5 beds I offer temporary homeless people. I can say... only 5 people from such and such a place can occupy the beds. But now, lets say someone starts to decry the non profit trying to raise the money with web casting, hosting, t shirts, 50/50's, chances, bazzars, las vegas nights, etc... and the $5,000 is cut down to two. Well now I go to the county and apply for the $3,000.00 because there are an established 5 people per cycle homeless. Now I have 2 beds that are controlled by our standards of service to our local community and three funded by COUNTY, who will ship in from outside the local area to keep the beds full. So go ahead, tell me I can't raise money with specialized services to the community, and you will cause non profits to get funding from outside sources who will dump, dump, dump... it's a paradox! They can never prove it. It is financially unfeasible for them to do so. They not only must bring to court the certificate for the calibration of the device (laser, rader, etc.) but must also bring the certificate for the facility doing the calibration as well as the certificate for the calibration of the speedometer it was tested against (and the certificate for the speedometer and the facility that calibrated it).
