There have been numerous issues raised here regarding the City that are

Thank you for the acknowledgment. Yes perception is rooted is ones sensory

and cognitive process. That does not however change reality. Consider such
things as
blindness or hearing deficiencies. Neither of which negate the reality, the
fact, that there
is light and sound.

Heisenberg is routinely misinterpreted. It deals with quantum physics and
sub-atomic particles. The measurement of which is difficult without altering
their trajectory and behavior. For example shining a light on something imparts
energy to the object. When
things get very small its enough to move the object. Thus the principal that
there is
uncertainly in measuring that object. Hence Heisenberg's uncertainty principle.

Nothing to do with changing the reality of things that humans are normally
atuned to.

Interesting article about a building in NYC that was built in the early 60s

Reminds me of the fate of the 5th Avenue Pavilion remodeling.

Buildings need not be 'old' to be architecturally significant.

I've been to man planning board meetings (not in ap) where it has cost the
builder tens of
thousands of dollars (or more) to make changes to a plan to an existing
building - in fees,
drawings etc - all to have to be redone again because the person(s) had no clue
what they
were looking at, despite it all. Just for well, I don't get it

I've said it before, a city or town is not a co=op or condo association (kind
of but not) -
it's a large, complex operation.

You need to have a great head of operations who in turn should be able to
dictate who
they need to help operate it - with oversight and input (criticism, complaints
and
suggestions) from the taxpayers who are the stock or stakeholders - as there is
direct
impact to their fractional share.

We need experts. Just like all the experts that ran Merrill and the rest of the
banks into
the ground. The smart ones who knew it to years ago all walked away with nice
fat
pacakages - as in bonuses which were worth more then the companies they left.

They belong in jail.

Will Obama go after these and will the banks be held accountable for ANY of
their losses?

Wouldn't such a thing be a great addition to our cities website?
A place similar to this where people can brainstorm, post ideas, think aloud?

Something Gabrielle said recently made me think of this concept.
I think (hope) there are many people in our city who have good ideas that they
would like
to be heard and discussed on the city level, but I also think that it may be
tough to find
the time to actually attend council meetings and such.
Of course, it would take moderation and time, which costs money, but perhaps
the
effectiveness of such a forum would justify the cost.

[AsburyPark] Pay Freeze and Freedom of Information Act relief

2009-01-21 Thread oakdorf
in Obama's Admin

not in AP.

In an attempt to deliver on pledges of a transparent government,
Obama said he would change the way the federal government interprets
the Freedom of Information Act. He said he was directing agencies
that vet requests for information to err on the side of making
information public — not to look for reasons to legally withhold it —
an alteration to the traditional standard of evaluation.

Just because a government agency has the legal power to keep
information private does not mean that it should, Obama said.
Reporters and public-interest groups often make use of the law to
explore how and why government decisions were made; they are often
stymied as agencies claim legal exemptions to the law.

For a long time now, there's been too much secrecy in this city
(washington), Obama said.

He also called on pay Freeze for those making over 100k on the
current staff.

Interesting you bring up the radio.

This morning, my kids must of had on 101.5 which I guess is mostly

kids, especially young men, will look at Obama as a real role model.

He went to say that Philly has only a 48% graduation rate among black

rap - ain't - I don't know how many times, he do that - just
continued the slang talk while talking about Obama will change and be
a leader for young black people.

Why not start by changing the talk radio lingo?

Another question I've been asking about - Is it me, or has the world
changed from african-american to black as referring to obama and
the general population. Seems that has been the case the past two

Let the educators take over from here.

2009-01-21 Thread Mike Hemeon
They are using a music service that they get off of a satellite sort of a
filler (In radio it is called stunting).

They will be hiring a staff with real DJ types soon, I don't know whether they
will be live or voice-tracked (pre-recorded to sound like they are live). Their
rating3 that past quarter were not that great.
http://www.radioandrecords.com/RRRatings/DetailsPage.aspx?MID=170RY=2008RQ=4MP=0OTHER=2MN=Monmouth-OceanMS=NJMR=5112P=1033700UP=1/8/2009SU=SBPER=5.6HPER=6.8OPER=NSD=CE=0

You can petition the station all you like but it seems they have made their
decision. Since it is a new format you can't really tell who the sponsors will
be so you can't complain to them either. The FCC, allegedly, does not control
content so they can't help out either.

If it succeeds you will hear more of it if not they will try something else
with the two frequencies.

No, I meant it will be gone bc they no longer play that music any
more. Why would they sponsor concerts at the Pony for bands that they
do not play? As for their ratings- well all radio ratings are down.
Don't know how much better a Z100 wannabe station would do. At least
they had a niche. Now, they are just another station playing the same
stuff as a number of other stations. If you look at the APP article,
there are a larger number of comments about the change, almost 100%
negative. There is a Save GRock group on facebook that has 3500
members and there were more than 1500 sigatures on the petition when I
signed it. Hey, it may all be in vain, but their spokesperson said

It's definitely a loss to the entire music scene within it's listening range.
I know so many people that listen to this station at work, and I'm sure they

Re: [AsburyPark] Save GRock

2009-01-21 Thread charlie
Havn't posted in awhile...  I remember the original station when I was in
HS, FM106.3.  That was a good station... Then it sold and out came G rock.  G
rock was pretty bad when it first came out, for a few years actually...  But It
got better.  I turned on the station the other day unaware of the change..
Wow, it's pure garbage!  In time it may get better, the same way G rock did.
Who knows.  But it's already off to a bad since they are promoting a cheese
based music style.  G rock differed, they did suck at first, but at least they
started out with heart promoting what the station had alwasy been about.  Who
knows, we will see what happens.

Like MIke just said, there are no hosts yet, so it has that cheesey sound
to it.  G Rock had the same thing when they first came out, most stations do
until they find real hosts.  I don't think its likely any of the previous hosts
will carry over.

Was this change in radio announced awhile ago?  I never read about it,
maybe I was in the dark.

Re: [AsburyPark] Save GRock

2009-01-21 Thread lightgrw
Grock was just a shell of the station that the old 106.3 was. As far as
sponsoring shows in the area, most of the time radio stations aren't
bringing these acts to the area they are just promoting the show through
advertising. The acts will still come, the venues will just have to
find other places to promote the shows from.

The old 106.3 routinely packed clubs with the shows they sponsored.
I've been to shows that Grock promoted that only brought a dozen people
to The Saint. It didn't surprise me at all that the station changed
formats. Many of the old 106.3 fans bolted when the corporation took
over and judging by the way they sometimes struggled with the shows they
promoted, they didn't have a fraction of the audience numbers.

[AsburyPark] Re: Save GRock

2009-01-21 Thread Jack Pitzer
Terrestrial radio is a dead medium.
It's going to have to reinvent itself in order to compete with the technology
that's replacing
it.
We now live in an on demand culture.
The internet killed both the radio star and the video star, and it's given rise
to the
YouTube star, where everybody has been given their between clicks length
seconds of
fame.
