GOOD POINT!! I'VE ALSO SEEN LIGHTS CONTROLLED SO THAT AFTER A CERTAIN EVENING HOUR, THE LIGHT ON THE MAIN DRAG WOULD STAY GREEN, AND ONLY TURN WHEN A CAR APPROACHED IN THE CROSS-STREET. Solution, after midnight selected intersections have blinking red lights and become stop signs. Some intersections can be four-waystop signs. That can be adjusted (assuming they are centrally controlled, which one would think would be the case with the infrastructure improvements) when there are events and seasonally. I think I noticed traffic cameras above some of the new poles on Kingsley. How about at each intersection. Money - yes. Crime deterent, efficiency - oh yes. Cheaper in the long haul. If you send me emails in support of your point of view, I may as well tell you I dont necessarily think the shelter is a bad idea, but I would support a measure giving it a 'wait-and-see' approach or a temporary OK, say, for 6 mos. or so, in order to determine if they will be a good neighbor or if they will be 'good' or 'bad' for Asbury in general, and a way in which their lease or whatever can be reviewed after a certain length of time, and rescinded if the PEOPLE of Asbury (and not JUST storeowners) think their presence is doing the town that great a disservice. That way they will have at least a chance to prove their worth if they can do so. Re: [AsburyPark] Re: Spa for sale
I dunno- I LIKE FREE ANYTHING, ESP. PARKING. If I was driving down rte 35 say, and saw a BIG SIGN that said, 'COME TO ASBURY, WHERE BEACH PARKING IS STILL FREE', I think that might have an effect on my decision of what beach to go to. This is AN IMPORTANT ISSUE w/any impending construction/improvement/development. A 'season parking pass' at a discount and other avenues could also be explored, but DUH PARTNERS (I LIKE DAT) should be thinking about including AMPLE PARKING into new designs. Perhaps a dedicated 2 or 3 floor parking structure nearby, tho lots of buildings in crowded areas are incorporating a basement or top floor dedicated parking area into a lot of new buildings to avoid crowded on-street parking 'hunts' and avoid meters, time limits (hourly type), and folks otherwise parking (and getting tickets- a sure way to have folks NOT return) in residents' driveways, loading zones and other restricted areas. -al --- dfsavgny [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: --- In AsburyPark@yahoogroups.com, Allan Peterson [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Beach numbers did well even with the increase. Very encouraging. However, we probably let a few bucks go by letting 5th Ave and Asbury beaches be free for the weekend. I understand the decision that for the past few years free parking has been an amenity and quite possibly a draw to outsiders (along with our lower beach fees). Free beach parking is an anomoly at the Shore. I am not saying that it should not continue, but there would be nothing wrong with providing convenient and cheap (v. free) parking. Perhaps that would be a deterrent now. However, a rebuilt waterfront (which should have been done by now) would be more of a draw than free parking. Not trying to be negative. I've taken no position here. I'm just trying to understand what you are saying. I still need an answer. Why does a place like Great Adventure thrive financially with no government subsidy, yet theaters and art districts, which you maintain are big draws need subsidy? I guess you have to look at the bigger picture. Why do trashy television shows get better ratings than shows that try to make a statement? Why do trashy novels sell more than pure literature? One could say that in a free market society that this is a good thing; however, why is it that schools will include great literature in their classrooms but ignore the trashy novels that outsell those books 6- 1? Could it be because it's part of a greater good? I think so. I think that's why the government tries to help businesses get off of the ground. Let's face it, Six Flags is part of a gigantic corporation that can afford to run tons of ads down the throats of the masses while a normal theatre cannot ever expect to do so. While there is a lot of costs to running an amusement park or a Fortune 500 company, there are plenty of costs involved in running a theatre (as you, more than most, are aware of). In addition to rent, there are hefty utility costs, salaries to stagehands, directors, actors, lighting crews, stage designers, marketers, etc. Unfortunately, you would be very, very hard-pressed to survive at $20-$50 ticket prices. And that's the rub. Theatre exists to show the good and bad of society. It is our truth teller. It's our pathway from the past to the present and where we are headed. Theatre tries to do this at a price that people can afford. Sometimes it may seem expensive, but when compared to what a normal business would have to charge to make a profit (or just survive) it is a bargain. But that bargain comes with a price. It means tons of fundraising, begging everyone from single subscribers to giant corporations to the government. And the government plays the smallest role of any of them. It plays a necessary role, but a small one. Theatres have been forced to find alternative sources for 96-98% of their operating budget. What does it cost per person to subsidize PBS? It's a meaninglessly small number. I don't care if you never watch PBS, if you're gonna complain about what the government subsidizes towards arts culture than you better go through the budget and pick out the thousands of other things that have no bearing on your life and complain about those as well. Subsidization may sound awful, but it happens in almost every industry. Why do people feel bad about the poor farmer who's got a decision about selling the family farm for a couple of million dollars to a developer who wants to put up a shopping mall but they hate the fact that artists are being helped? Maybe the problem is that America shoots for the lowest common denominator. We despise our European roots because they still believe in things like art culture as defining a society. We fail to understand how there could be Muslims who are so offended by what we call art these days that they want our society to be wiped out. To MOST OF THE WORLD, arts culture is how they want to be remembered. I guess Americans would rather be remembered for how well their stock did today. We don't think of legacies or legends; heroes or people who changed the world. We think of immediate gratification. August Wilson passed away yesterday. In some places around the world, I expect there is a significant loss being felt. It's a shame that 99% of the people in America have no idea who Wilson was. And that's why the arts should be subsidized in my opinion. Because men like August Wilson have done so much for society that people SHOULD know about them instead of having them linger in obscurity... While we linger in ignorance. === message truncated ===

The Clerks Office is, by law, the official keeper of the City Record. One should (assuming the Clerks Office is functioning properly) get a copy of the Adopted Plan which was offically logged and filed. Lets see where this goes. Werner, remember, this is Asbury Park. I would not count on it. Sorry you missed the council meeting tonight. They TRIED to defuse the situation by repeating the lame stories. Aaron actually tried to make people believe that Asbury Partners did the unofficial official plan (June 2002) and tried to make that the plan. Keady saw through this in that there was no incentive for Asbury Partners trying to add language that was more adverse to them with regard to C-8. I beleive they are stupid, but not that stupid. Keady was blown off by the cast of usual suspects. However, I was especially dismayed by Ed Johnson reaction who took Keady to task and told him to move on. Ed said the June 2002 plan was just a mistake. A bigger mistake is him being a councilmember. I guess he took DJ's article in TCN to heart and is now going to play ball with his team cohorts. Back to the city clerk. As I said earlier, Kay told me that the plan he considered the official adopted plan was the June 2002 version at issue. That is he said, until Don Sammet told him it wasn't. He called me later in the day to say he had a copy of the ordinance (2607) that adopted the plan attached to the March 15, 2002 plan. Don Sammet told him was the one adopted. That is the integrity of our public record keeping. I assure you, if anyone actually knew what is the adopted plan, they ain't telling. At the meeting I pointed out another detail which shows that they are blowing smoke up our asses. The ordinance adopting the plan says it gave the plan to the Planning board for review on 1/16/2002 (meaning the plan had to be created before this date). The PB gave its recommendations to the council on 4/26/2002, and the ordinance dated 6/5/2002, adopted the plan in gave the PB (on 1/16/2002) except for its acceptions and objections to the recommendations of the PB, which werre further enumerated. Now pertaining to the plan, that is it. There is no discussion that it was amended from some date before 1/16/2002 (given to PB)to 3/15/2002. That's it. The only dates are 1/16/2002 and 4/26/2002. Where did this 3/15/2002 plan come from? That is not what the ordinace adopted. It adopted whatever plan was given to the PB on 16/2002, which certainly could not have been dated 3/15/2002, 2 months later. Finally, Aaron stated that C-8 must come down and new footings installed. This is total new construction. He lied by only telling half of the truth. Aaron stated that the only conditions placed on C-8 development in the 3/15/2002 plan was to remove the garage and redo the facade. He failed to say that the 3/15/2002 contains a section identical to the 6/5/2002 plan which says that if the developer can finish the project it can be built to the existing height. The operative word is finish. Finish does not mean demolishing the structure, excavating and redoing the footings. That's a total new development. They are trying to pull a fast one here. It's time to wake up and smell whatever it is they're cooking. Look at the timing. Last week its confirmed C-8 must come down (which I predicted). I and others point out that if demolished they can rebuild to existing height, and thus, would want an amendment for which we could and should get money. I ask for clarification of what could be done on C-8 site if demolished and all of a sudden the city this ain't the plan. At best it is gross ineptitude, at worse, its criminal. Like it or not, the council, with the exception of Keady, won't do a damn thing about this. Apparently, Johnson is included with the majority. These council members are not even familar with these documents. Time for a recall. __ Yahoo! Mail - PC Magazine Editors' Choice 2005 http://mail.yahoo.com Yahoo!
