Glenn,
You're absolutely right! Why doesn't the hypocrisy of it all, NOT
surprise me? At the 110th Anniversary, thing, the Carousel was used
for the cake, but still, no carousel in the city, except in our minds,
which I lost a long time ago! My mind, that is! Well, the snow is
falling and AP schools are open, as usual! Seems they'd give these
kids ONE snow day, since they haven't had any all year! As far as the
Chamber, it's just a popularity contest, as far as I'm concerned.
Name me one member, no 2, that live here! A lot of what goes on here,
is just so window dressing! Too many restaurants, with no real
business, here. Well, at least Tommy is consistent, with being a
Republican; seems he owns an oil business, here! Read it in the
paper. Weldon's pensions suspended. Have mixed feelings over that.
His firemen's pension, shouldn't have been involved. Seems he earned
that. He still has his family. Sorry folks, they shouldn't have to
pay for his mistakes. Alright, I've donned my flame-retardant, suit.
 Flame, away!

You took the words, right out of my mouth! These 34 to 40 somethings,
don't want anything, but singles stuff and their little martini bars
and beach houses! I came to the boardwalk, to have a kosher hot dog
and REAL lemonade! The fresh air and the funny looking fat/skinny and
buffed boys and girls, taking the surf! The sounds of summer and the
isolation in winter, when you had the BW to yourself! Would see dogs
being walked, a lone runner or goofy me, walking the boards. Now, you
have to contend with those who think they knowitall about US! For
those who remember miniature golf and the cutesy rides for kids, go to
seaside Hts., there's nothing here for YOU! Chuck, it would please me
so much to see just one iota, one thing; a carousel! Is that too much
to ask for?

The problem was not just the isolation in the winter, but the isolation in the
summer.

And don't forget, bringing events back to CH year round - like the old days.
The off
months were ceramic shows, boat shows and more. Ceramic shows were the almost
the
best weekends of the year and that was around Feb - march if i can think back
that far. It
wasn't kids or 30's somethings. It was busloads and busloads of seniors getting
off at CH
or Michael's and eating.

What creates memories is a starting point with a family To assume that a
childless couple
will be buying a condo is simply wrong and could be what didn't exactly help
anyone's
condo sale s in AP. Example - an empty nester coouple from Morriss Plains -
retired.
Grandkids. House in Florida, Morris Plains, kids in PA and Virginia. They want
to summer
in AP most of the time, keep house in Morris Plains and head to Fl in October.
They have
$1m to spend. Why were they turned off?
A) they were trying to accomoodate their lifestyle (grandchildren, kids..)
B) unable to select a unit or had limited choice -take it or leave it
C) unsure of what the grandkids would do (pool was a real plus)
d) time frame for development

One of these days there's going to be a huge outlet center off 66 and the
parkway. You
have a few new motels that sprung up from the collingswood circle to 66. You
hvae a few
more that want space. Seaview Sq is continuing to grow. Burlingtong going in
plus a few
more not named, Value City out. Burlington taking part of the old lowe's..

I would guess MM has a good idea fo what THEY think will work and how they will
make it
pay off. IF there is one smart old time operator on the BW, they will be able
to take
advantage, keep to tradition and do very, very well,

There's a way to make it kid friendly were it doesn't turn out like seaside nor
as kid
friendly as Point.

Grandma grandma grandma take me to thelet's see what MM comes up with,

PS: My son makes a good martini

The dinner will be held at the Berkeley Hotel in Asbury Park.
The Chamber of Commerce presents the Carousel Awards to businesses

According to one
nominator, “It is my sense that Madison Marquette is here for the

The Business Achievement Award goes to Market in the Middle Owner
Marilyn

culture, civic and charitable function,” according to one
nominator. “Market
In the Middle is a business that raises the bar and sets a higher
standard

The Spirit of Asbury Award honoree is Father David Stout of Trinity
Church.
Father Stout was cited for the unprecedented growth of his
congregation since
his arrival in Asbury in 2004 and the many outreach programs he has

the “big box

The Public Official Award this year goes to Asbury Park Mayor Kevin

Mayor Sanders’ passion for Asbury Park, the place where he grew
up and now
lives with his wife and five children, is apparent. He has been
instrumental in
leading Asbury’s economic and civic rebirth.
The Carousel Awards will be presented at a dinner to be held on

Actually - there are no Carousels left just a Carousel House.

There were at one time 3 Carousels around Wesley Lake; 1 in OG and 2
in AP.

I predict that the Casino Carousel House will be turned into a food
court...a replica (wink, wink) of the one at Monmouth Mall.

(Hey isn't that one supposed to be an interpretation of the 'Real'
Casino Carousel House right here in AP ???)

Round and Round we go..

I think the boardwalk idea at Monmouth mall was based off of AP. There
intended to be a carousel in the center food court area. accross from what is
now Old Navy? You can see the round shape on the floor, and the circular
support system above it. It was designed for it... but i think time showed it

You need a reason, other then for a sit down $30 pp affair. Not that people
won't come for
that buttake a look at a carnival trailer midway with cotton candy, popcorn
and soda. Bring
me the $. That and a ride like a carousel next to it.

I see your point about the Freehold Mall... But i guess Monmouth Mall
didn't see as a draw or people, otherwise why would have wente through and
built it. They've had quite a few years between now and when the boardwalk
additions were added on. Ah, who knows!
Carnival rides, cotton candy, and others are good attractions. However,
it's kind of obvious that isn't the image the boardwalk is going for. Like it
or hate it, that appears to be what's going on!

I have the feeling MM is not planning to cater to a boardwalk filled with
children. When they first showed their plans in City Council there was nothing
for children except a candy store with walls of candy. They did not mention the
water park that was proposed in the app. MM in my opinion is gearing the
boardwalk to the people they will need to fill the Condos that will be built on
Ocean Ave. The Condos being built are for couples with no children.

Exactly. I wish it were different. Do you really picture a boardwalk
filled teens and screaming kids, while there are million dollar condos only
feet away on the other side of Ocean ave? I highly doubt it. But again, we
will have to wait and see what happens.
As the post up top mentions, MM didn't mention anything about a water
park really. They said they had ideas for it, but i'm guessing it's nothing
major or else they would have had it ready. Maybe it wasn't mentioned beasue
it's not part of the summer 08'?

These are just thoughts, i have no idea if they're true. Maybe the
freehold mall has their double decker carousel becasue they can afford it?
Does the Freehold Mall bring in a large profit? From the area, and the
percentage of high end stores, i'm guesing yes. It may have been an
attraction, something done becasue they could afford to do it. Weather it
makes money or it doesn't, it brings in people. But that could only have been
done becasue the mall in general brings in enough extra money.
Maybe Monmouth doesn't do well enough to spend on such an attraction.
One that may not give back much.
