There is an old theater sitting empty right by North Beach (oak can give more details on that), but there are spots where ReVision can go...permanently I have to make it crystal clear, that I am not for dotting the whole waterfront with amusements, I... like the others, simply want a carousel in the carousel house, a ferris wheel would be great, maybe some one-off small rides here and there Its not rocket science, its what the people want.MM would be surprised (probably not tho) how many boardwalk visitors want this. [AsburyPark] Re: Values and more...
This is the best reply I've read in some time. I came to NJ at a time, when APs boardwalk catered more to family than what its' evolved to. All of the vintage post cards and initial creation of Asbury was why I raged some, because I saw what my kids came up with being destroyed. I do have an old 1997 Asbury Park Master Plan, from my days on the Board Of Adjustment and seeing Asbury evolve from Carabetta to Madison Marquette has taken some getting used to. I feel for residents who have to PAY to park in front of one's own residence and it appears as though the City just doesn't get it in that regard, mainly because NONE of them, live in the Boardwalk area. If I lived over in Hinge's area, I'd be pissed! He's paying off the hook property taxes, then is touristed to pay to park. I say GIVE residents who live there a FREE decal entitling them to a space. Clean up the damned Library Park and install some surveillance there. What would be a pretty historic park is reduced to a hangout for drunks, mental cases and the homeless; like a Marlboro Psychiatric of the air! I read with chagrin about Rita in the Coaster and I do believe that someone ought to learn how to use interpersonal skills, rather than blast off at what I consider an institution of the Shore and should be duly respected. Supressing speech is one of the first steps to anarchy. Silence the public to let others know, this is what you'll get for speaking out. As far as the West Side, that building should have been finished, 3 months, ago. There are still mountains of dirt, with plants growing out of them, now. Message: The poor, need not be respected, no matter that they too are represented by the SAME Constitution. Brings to mind, something Dr. King said in one of his many speeches, A Black Man has no rights a white man need respect! Promises of a supermarket or something on the corner lot across from the old Orchid Lounge on Memorial and Springwood. Anyway, this was the best response I've seen. It seems the killings go on. Like dreams deferred, the murdered person's family can only dream of what their young persons' life would have been like had they lived. Asbury Park needs a workable Jobs program. Something like Industrial Arts Training like Carpentry, Electrical and Plumbing that those whom college isn't on the cards or not to their liking can have something to give them a decent living. With that, I'll continue to read on. --- In AsburyPark@yahoogroups.com, oakdorf oakdorf@... wrote: there's no reason why you can't have a classy amusement area - if wanted at all. Aquariums, Jai Alai, Baseball stadium, arenas, enclosing cookman ave into a mall, skyscrapers, apartment buildings, offices on the bw and of course the jackson pavilion Asbury only has vacant land for development in two places - the oceanfront and springwood ave. In business one of the key determinants of success is focusing on something specific and doing it extremely well. having a few rides will just be an eyesore and a half baked attempt at luring some families in. in my humble opinion i think they need to keep going with the art and music scene as far as they can take it. An adult playground so to speak. Pick a vision (werner has done a good job detailing why music and entertainment make sense), stick to it and then don't veer from the course. Focus and build. I agree with art, music, beerfests etc... I had a bunch of friends down and they loved the beerfest. Spent a bundle at the beer fest, ate at pops and then probably spent a few hundred in Porta. All good for the town. Let's not despair at this point. Look at what is happening on Cookman. Art focused, keep it going. I have to admit ... the last (10) or so responses were great. A Carousel in the Casino Area but will the Revision Theater find a permanenet home? They are going strong there now ... I have been to EVERY show as alot of locals. Its been great. A Ferris Wheel would be a winner but at what location? It seems the area north of the Convention Center may be next testing ground with some new ventures? Each season for the last (5) seasons I have lived here part-time and the beach crowd has grown exponentially. Some businesses have failed but some have survived that are not food related. Of course alot of traffic from Ocean Grove which really has no good mix of restaurants or night life. That new breakfast place Toast has been a hit ... ask any Ocean Grover full time in this town if he/she has not heard of it or even been there. That Beerfest last weekend reached its maximum allowable capacity for the event of 2,200 people and sold out. I was shut out trying to get in there from the 6-10PM session. Probably with another 500 or so people like myself wanting to get inside this event. I think what makes AP unique now is the current diversification that few other beach resorts can match even at this time. We can only hope this success can spread WEST into the city season after season and all this revenue can revitilize areas TO THE WEST. --- In AsburyPark@yahoogroups.com, oakdorf oakdorf@... wrote: Past sat night live with ben stiller he did a Springsteen bit. RE: [AsburyPark] Re: Values and more...
I think that the art aspect is wonderful, but why limit a city that's always been so diverse with just one thing? Let's not pigeonhole Asbury - rather, let's embrace its diversity, and utilize that. As for the question earlier about where the Revision would relocate to, there are a few ideas, but the first one is that if the Casino is rebuilt as it was supposed to be, there would be plenty of room to move it inward some, perhaps the area where the old fun house was? Or, better yet, it could use another building that is currently empty - last I checked, there was still nothing in the old Hitching Rail / Higgenbottom's Pizza Pub building adjacent to the Pony, that is longer and narrower but I think roughly the same square footage as the Carousel House. Also, aren't the upstairs areas of Convention Hall still not being used? Just a few thoughts! Art focused, keep it going. there's no reason why you can't have a classy amusement area - if wanted at all. Fact is, people do come with kids and might spend more. The might come back without their kids and spend even more. Talking about lost cities, I went to AC Friday-Saturday night. We bought our bikes and rode from the North end of AC (the very pretty ..I mean what could be...) all the way down to margate. The landscape is dotted with failed developments and the what the f Revel Casino now once again underway. Parts along the inlet with beautiful new fancy homes, a few single family low-middle income homes, a few lower-middle income apt buildings and a few dilapidated buildings. ALong the boardwalk - the typical bw stuff that at age 50 has seemed to see better days. But a gentleman's club along with at least 3 massage parlors also dot the boardwalk. My wife wanted me to look into some junk property there. I laughed. Since I was around 18 on our first run to ac with $20 in our pocket, it's been 33 years to get to where it is today. Asbury has it's own share of problems. What asbury has turned out to be today has been a matter of sheer luck and enterprising individuals - some who have lost money over the years and others who have come here at the right time and managed or are managing to survive. One of these days, I'd like to coordinate a show of all the projects that were planned for AP since the 20's. Think about it. Everything requires removal of buildings. Maybe it will be done in 5 yearsmaybe 10, maybe 30. (I think I heard this since I was 17) You actually have a good start and are positioned for the future - just pick your time period. The biggest plus and what would seem the easiest - Put a Carousel in the Casino. Yes, REvision has done a great job of bringing people in. Yahoo! Name the beach or the place. Even Wildwood which has the best beach ... but the Boardwalk business is pathetic. Being restrictive is a good thing. AP is growing from the beach inward can only help this city. The other side of the tracks is a whole different issue. --- In AsburyPark@yahoogroups.com, cbrianwatkins@... wrote: Why do games and boardwalk fun have to be low end? There are certain beaches you can go for that kind of thing in which is tretches from one end to the other ... pathetic. It's nice to walk down the boardwalk and not hear bells and whistles. More unique shops and restaurants, etc. is in order. Chain restaurants are also banned like Dairy Queens, etc. ... GOOD. The metamorphosis of the boardwalk has been very good. Some failures ... but good. I am liking these special events like the Beerfest, Nov. 12 show in which Bruce will show up, ZOMBIE WALK, this is ASBURY PARK. Maybe the CASINO area has been reserved for a mini-amusement park area. Maybe ... you will get your Seaside Park in AP. Although these kind of low end shops are like a VIRUS. --- In AsburyPark@yahoogroups.com, Jenni jenni@ wrote: I've been all for having rides back on the boardwalk again. No doubt a small amusement area in the Casino would work. A carousel back in this Casino area? Possibly ... but like you said Revision Theater is going strong but they do hint to us members it does wish to have its own PERMANENT theater possibly somewhere else in AP. --- In AsburyPark@yahoogroups.com, oakdorf oakdorf@... wrote: there's no reason why you can't have a classy amusement area - if wanted at all.
