[ATrpms-users] MythTV 0.24 Can I remove the libraries?

Can I remove these?

Yes remove them, if everything looks okay why not? I am assuming you upgrade

Are you sure the old kernel is gone? You should be able to edit grub.conf and

rpm -q kernel should list two or three kernels on a default Fedora install

[ATrpms-users] mythbackend starting before mySQLd

2012-08-27 Thread Paul

Hi,
just completed my upgrade to FC17 and a few things went wrong but here is a
couple

1. I noticed that MythBackend is starting during mySQL start up and as its not completely
initialised it fails.

2. Nvidia Kmdls didn;'t automatically download I had to manually install even though the
other nvidia-graphics packages installed.

How do I get mythbackend to wait for database to finish startup? do I need a startup

I ran the following script which and put the output in my modprobe.d/mydvb.conf
file

 echo;for i in $(lspci -nv |awk 'BEGIN {look=0;driver=""} /^..:.:/{look=0}
/^..:.04[08]0:/{look=1} /Kernel driver in use: / {if(look) {print $5}}'); do

I've noticed the same thing. I build all my MythTV packages from the
SRPM and found that, after upgrading to CentOS 6 and then making some
unknown change, the the hashes were being chopped off the Python
scripts in the RPMs. I presume you're using Axel's binaries from the
ATrpms repo; if so, Axel, I'd appreciate letting us know what you do
to fix this on your buildslaves so I can do it on my side.

I have earlier RPMs I built after the CentOS 6 upgrade that do have
the hashes so it's not that.

When I edit a python script, now usually using gedit, the editor usually
wants to add
the utf-8 line. I don't remember its wanting to drop the hash, though.

[ATrpms-users] How do I remove Nvidia-graphics package?

2012-12-22 Thread Paul
I would like to start from scratch so I want to remove all the atrpms Nvidia-Graphics
package but when I do this via Yum I see about 100+ packages which are dependant on this?
I would normally have to resort to rpm -e nvidia-graphics-302.17-68.i386.rpm --nodeps for
each of the Nvidia rpm, but just checking to see if there is a cleaner way of doing this?

I'm having the same issue:

Oops, when fixing MythCenter I mentally swapped MythCenter and
MediaCenter in a line. The bogus package is mythtv-suite, just
uninstall it for an upgrade and install it later today again :)

Does the uninstall of mythtv-suite affect or delete any packages? ie do

then a
2. yum update

[ATrpms-users] kernel upgrade with Nvidia + lirc

2006-07-07 Thread Paul

is there anyway I can script the upgrade of the kernel + nividia and
Lirc Kernel mods (kmdl)
heres what I do now

  yum update
  [reboot ]

  yum install nvidia-graphics8762-kmdl-$KVER

  yum install lirc-kmdl-$KVER
  [reboot]

Whats the easiest way to script the install of the kernel mods so I can
just reboot the once?
ie can I do a yum install nvidia-graphics8762-kmdl-$newest_kernel
etc...BEFORE I reboot and using that kernel

Does the install of the kmdl install in the current kernel or the

Do you have atrpms-package-config installed? Then it's just

yum install smart smart-gui
(or if you don't want the gui don't install it)

The either use

smart update
smart upgrade/install/...

or

smart --gui

Re: [ATrpms-users] EOL plan for RH7.3-RH9, FC1-FC2, RHEL3, please upgrade

2006-08-08 Thread Paul

On 8/08/2006 1:33 AM, Axel Thimm wrote:

  Hi,

with the advent of FC6t2 today Fedora Legacy is dropping support for
FC1 and FC2. RH8.0 has been dropped since some time already and RH7.3
and RH9 will be dropped between Oct 1st and the end of the year (the
first date is the deadline for submitting new bug reports)

W/o a security update plan ATrpms is going to drop support for these
distros, too. According to stats from the master mirror this will
affect about 10% of ATrpms users, so this is a plea to upgrade to more
recent versions of Fedora Core and/or RHEL and clones.

The plan for a staged EOL for FC1, FC2, RH7.3, RH8.0 and RH9 is as
follows:

immediately: no builds for new (not updated) packages
20060901:updated packages failing to build under these distros
 don't get fixed
20061001:no more updates
20070101:removal

The dates are earliest dates, e.g. support may (or may not) continue
after the named dates.

Note that since I only have a limited set of RHEL licenses I will drop
support for RHEL3 when RHEL5 is released in beta channels. RHEL3 (or
clones) ATrpms users are less than 1% and RHEL3 support was never
officially announced, so it shouldn't affect too many people.

Please upgrade to FC5/RHEL4 or FC6/RHEL5 within the next
months. Thanks!

Hey,

First of all, thanks Axel for all your work keeping the repo up... it
makes life much easier for all of us...

Now for the question... Both Jared's myth guide and the mythtv.org
site
are still recommending using the 7676 version of the nVIDIA driver due
to lockups and other issues. Is this still the case?

No, the newest nvidia drivers appear to be pretty decent, or as least
as good as 7676.

I'm having lockup issues on a remote viewing station (no TV card,
remote
database, remote backend), and am wondering if it's the driver or the
hardware. It's definitely something to do with the nVIDIA card, as
if i
swap it out with an ATI Radeon 7000 the issue goes away (although the
video goes all jerky - the 7000 doesn't have good enough acceleration
support under Linux). Doesn't seem to matter what nVIDIA driver
release
(I've tried 8178, 8756, 8762).

Well, thats bad news.

Hardware specs:
CPU:	AMD Duron 700
RAM:	256MB (no notable swapping)
Video:	3Dfuzion GeFORCE 6200 PCI (replacing the builtin Savage4 using
the AGP interface)
HD:	20GB 2.5" PATA IBM Travelstar
NIC:	EDIMAX 802.11g Atheros based
Sound:	Onboard (AC97 based) or AOpen Cobra PCI (CMI based) (been
switching them in and out, disabling the onboard when the Cobra
goes in)
Chipset:VT8364 or VT8364A (can't tell, heatsink over it)
Kernel:	2.6.17-1.2157_FC5

Just for fun, I stuck the nVIDIA card in a different machine and
got the
same lockup results:
CPU:	Intel P2/350
RAM:	192MB
Video:	3Dfuzion GeFORCE 6200 PCI (leaving the AGP slot empty)
HD:	20GB PATA Western Dig.
NIC:	EDIMAX 802.11g Atheros based
Sound:	Onboard (AC97 based) or AOpen Cobra PCI (CMI based)
Chipset:Unknown
Kernel:	2.6.17-1.2157_FC5

Both machines have more/less the same software (FC5, myth 0.19-129 -
haven't installed the 130 releases yet, nvidia8178 8756 8762
release 73
- haven't installed 74 yet).

If I stick an nVIDIA MX4000 AGP in the P2/350, it seems to work OK
(although a tad jerky with any of the OSDs - the 4000 must not
unload as
much as the 6200).

Anyone have any ideas?

Any way you can check the card in a Windows box? Any overheating
issues or seating (with the AGP slot) issues?

This really sounds like a bad card. I'm running a 6200 series card
and it works fantastically.

Keith C

I also use the 6200 TC with no problems on MythTV using  the
nvidia-graphics8762 release.

As a temporary fix I created symbolic links called lib64*.so to all the

Ex: ln -s  libmytharchive.so lib64mytharchive.so

Ok upgraded and hit first problem, but I think I had this before I
upgrade and I hoped that the 0.20 would solve this.
I'm not sure where I got this problem but after  reboot Myth does seem
able to playback anything all I notice is Hi CPU and blank screen  so
it could be something to do with my HDTV output . so perhaps its my
nvidia-settings can some-one point me in the directions of the current
HDTV nvidia options I need to set.

I'm guessing I mistakingly deleted of changed something in Xorg or
nvida to stop this working.

Do you get any backtraces at all? The only thing you can do
additionally is to make these backtraces properly resolve to the
source code, e.g. add debugging symbols to them. That's what debuginfo
packages would do. Or you could rebuild mythtv and switch on "debug"

Re: [ATrpms-users] mythfrontend using more CPU

2006-11-27 Thread Paul

theme

http://www.mythtvtalk.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=16174#16174

[ATrpms-users] MythTV themes package

2006-12-18 Thread Paul
Has there been any change to mythtv-themes.i386 0.20-147.1.fc4.at package as
I'm getting
an error

frontend.log:

2006-12-19 18:10:28.446 XMLParse::LoadTheme using
/usr/share/mythtv/themes/MythCenter-wide/gallery-ui.xml
2006-12-19 18:10:28.449 IconView, Error: Failed to get submenu area.

I have two mythtv themes packages installed:

myththemes-0.20-110.at.noarch.rpm
mythtv-themes-0.20-147.1.fc4.at.i386.rpm

Should I have two?

Here is my yum log for themes last theme rpm:

Nov 25 08:24:15 Updated: mythtv-themes.i386 0.20-147.fc4.at
Nov 27 13:58:26 Updated: mythtv-themes.i386 0.20-147.1.fc4.at

Whats with the ".1." release?

Re: [ATrpms-users] fc4 packages to fc6

2007-01-02 Thread Paul
a yum update doesn't pick up any updates for these packages
and a yum info picks up the fc4 version
eg

[EMAIL PROTECTED] log]# uname -a
Linux mythbox.salsola 2.6.18-1.2868.fc6 #1 SMP Fri Dec 15 17:32:54 EST 2006

Reading repository metadata in from local files

Arch : i386
Version: 1.1.2
Release: 25_11.fc4.at
Size : 124 k

Summary: Shared libraries for package flac

Description:
This package provides the shared libraries libFLAC++.so.5* for the package flac.
Shared libraries are required at runtime for software built against flac.
Keeping shared libraries in a separate package enables their use as
forward/backward compatibility packages.

Re: [ATrpms-users] fc4 packages to fc6

2007-01-04 Thread Paul
I'm progressively replacing these , some of these seem to have moved into
"release" and/or
changed name.
others I have not idea eg

rhnlib-1.8-6.p24.1_8.rhfc4.at.noarch.rpm
up2date-4.4.23-4_13.rhfc4.at.i386.rpm

there appears to be no FC6 package or its changed name to something else so I
don't know
if I should remove these or not

Thanks
Paul

[ATrpms-users] nvidia 9764 wfb module

2007-01-04 Thread Paul

the WFB module is new Axel .. not affecting me but FYI for 8800 cards..

see==> http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=1119139#post1119139
Paul

I'm using the atrpms package for nvidia 9764 and I'm getting errors
finding wfb but I have a 6200 TC card, so I assume this is not a
problem, but should this library still exist? ie is this a packaging
problem or a configuration problem for me?

Quote:
(II) Loading sub module "wfb"
(II) LoadModule: "wfb"
(WW) Warning, couldn't open module wfb
(II) UnloadModule: "wfb"
(EE) Failed to load module "wfb" (module does not exist, 0)

The file can be placed anywhere, as long as the X server can find it
(either through the ModulePath directive or via a symlink). The SONAME
is not used. The driver will automatically try to load a module called
"wfb" (i.e., libwfb.so), which is installed as a symlink to
libnvidia-wfb.so.x.y.z if no libwfb.so existed at install time.

The driver will always try to load it, but it will only be required if a
GeForce 8800 or higher is detected.

Re: [ATrpms-users] nvidia 9764 wfb module

2007-01-05 Thread Paul
Rebooted and couldn't load nvidia module:

(II) LoadModule: "nvidia"
(WW) Warning, couldn't open module nvidia
(II) UnloadModule: "nvidia"
(EE) Failed to load module "nvidia" (module does not exist, 0)

Does this load it from the /usr/lib/xorg/modules/extensions/ directory?

Re: [ATrpms-users] nvidia 9764 wfb module

2007-01-05 Thread Paul
Manually created symlink:

ln -s /usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers/nvidia-1.0-9746_drv.so nvidia_drv.so
and removed bad symlink
rm nvidia_drv.o

rebooted and nvidia loaded ok

but still no-go for the wfb module:

(II) Loading sub module "wfb"
(II) LoadModule: "wfb"
(WW) Warning, couldn't open module wfb
(II) UnloadModule: "wfb"
(EE) Failed to load module "wfb" (module does not exist, 0)

Perphaps this is related to this issue?

BTW I don't have a 8800 so I can't really test the wfb anyway just testing the
new package

thanks
Paul

I seen this on another yum update, any idea what this is?
note I don't suspect atrpms as all these updates where from "updates"

As far as I can see it didn't seem to cause the update to fail. looks
like some bad data somewhere.

[ATrpms-users] xine depancy problems

2007-02-10 Thread Paul
I know this is not a atrpm package problem just wondering if anyone else is
getting the
same problem with xine-libs

yum doesn't seem to be handling it..

Do I need to remove and reinstall zine to fix this or is there something wrong
with the
package

Thanks Paulo

I re-enabled freshrpms and looks like it worked.. cheers

only one issue , when I re-enabled freshrpms it tried to download faac
  faaci386 1.25-2.fc6 freshrpms 83 k

which is conflicting with my currently installed package so I had to exclude it

yum update --exclude faac

[ATrpms-users] new version format and new version of Nvidia

2007-03-07 Thread Paul
Axel,
heads up for you
new version : 1.0-9755 for Linux x86/x86-64 released
and quote:
This post is an early notification to anyone who repackages the NVIDIA UNIX
Graphics Driver.

Starting in the Release 100 driver series, NVIDIA will revise the format of the
version
number for the UNIX Graphics Driver.

In the past, the NVIDIA UNIX Graphics Driver version format was "1.0-"
(e.g.,
"1.0-9746"). Starting in Release 100, the new format will be a collection of
period-separated fields (e.g., "100.17.03").

The left-most field will indicate the major release series ("Release 100",
Release "105",
etc.). The second field and optional third or additional fields will be used
for NVIDIA
tracking.

The version number will be a variable number of fields, however it will consist
only of
digits and periods.

This version format change will apply to both the package filenames, and the
names of the
libraries.

Examples:

 /usr/lib/libGLcore.so.100.17

 NVIDIA-Linux-x86-100.17-pkg1.run
 NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-100.17-pkg2.run
 NVIDIA-Solaris-x86-100.17.run
 NVIDIA-FreeBSD-x86-100.17.tar.gz

 # glxinfo | grep "OpenGL version string"
OpenGL version string: 2.1.1 NVIDIA 100.17

 # cat /proc/driver/nvidia/version
NVRM version: NVIDIA UNIX x86 Kernel Module 100.17 Mon Feb 12 14:37:08 PST
2007
GCC version: gcc version 4.1.1 20060525 (Red Hat 4.1.1-1)

After the Release 100 driver series is released, we will make a similar change
to the
1.0-96xx and 1.0-71xx legacy GPU release branches.

Thank you,
__

Maybe some leftovers from the 2944 days? kernel-devel kernel-headers,
some odd kmdl?

Of course, your mileage may vary, but I seem to remember I removed
something related to the 2944 kernel.

Claude

PS: As for the 'nvidia-graphics100.14.09-kmdl-2.6.20-1.2944.fc6', this
is the mewest kmdl for the nVidia proprietary graphics driver. Yes, as
if it was not confusing enough... they just resetted their versioning
scheme with the latest release :(

Ok so let me try and understand...

the kernel 2.6.20-1.2948.fc6 has been removed from the repo and yum is trying
to download
dependancies for this kernel?

Is this correct or am I not understanding the situation?
and is this normal behaviour or do we need to wait a longer period to update?

[ATrpms-users] how use smart on atrpms?

2007-07-04 Thread Paul
Have got a quick command ref for using smart at atrpms?

currently I use the following commands daily to check if updates are available

yum -e 0 -d 0 check-update

then use the following to install updates:

yum update

Firstly how do I config smart for atrpms and secondarily how do I download
updates using
smart command as per the above?

[ATrpms-users] nvidia graphics mismatch after upgrade to FC6 2962

2007-07-04 Thread Paul
I recently just updated to FC6 2962 kernel but there seems to be a mismatch in
kmdl loaded
the dmesg log was telling me that nvidia-graphics100.14.11 was running but
kernel version
was nvidia-graphics100.14.09.

So I deleted nvidia-graphics100.14.09 kmdl package and reinstalled
nvidia-graphics100.14.11 kmdl then xorg refused to run.

I have the following packages installed:
nvidia-graphics100.14.11-libs-100.14.11-91.fc6
nvidia-graphics100.14.11-kmdl-2.6.20-1.2952.fc6-100.14.11-91.fc6
nvidia-graphics100.14.11-kmdl-2.6.20-1.2962.fc6-100.14.11-91.fc6
nvidia-graphics100.14.11-100.14.11-91.fc6

I've backed out to the previous kernel (2952) for the current time.

What can I check to see if these are installed ok?

Thanks
