for me the server is running without lag, I don't know why people keep having lag, I usually get a ping of around 100. I think that the connection has to be very good as well to be able to play without lag.

Re: MAINSTREAM GAMES - list of accessible video games - update 27/01/14

discovered a game that is playable, though it may be partially playable.it's sakura wars: so long, my love.it's a tactical strategy game, combined with an RPG game.in this game, you play as a japanese soldier, namely shinjiro taiga, who is on a mission to save new york city from evil robots that is trying to attack the liberty statue and destroying the whole city.it has a little bit of exploration, at the time of me playing right now, but I think it's not too complicated.the game also has choices, which will impact on the story, much like the games from telltale.but picking the choices is done by selecting it using the up and down arrows on the D-pad and pressing X or the button on the wii will select it.right now, I am in part 4, where the real battle starts.the battle works in 2 ways, melee battle and mech-based battle.in melee battle, you will walk with the robotic legs and slash the enemy with the sword, and
the mech battles is where you will use your spaceship and destroy the enemy with a missile.in the battle, when you walk around and you've found the target, you'll here a little beep, in which you need to press the X button to attack.

Re: New Infinite Apocalpytic Procedural Ascii Game "The Wastes"

OK, I should probably post this on the other form as well, but I'm having a problem in that when I level I spend more time adding skill points than I am playing the game. I get around 200 skill points a level and I'm currently in a dungeon that has monsters that level me 6 times I kill them. So that is a lot of key presses! I'm trying to get 10 HP, but I really don't want to press that many keys. an extra number or 4x200 or something like that would be awesome!

Hi aprone, can you give me my stuff back? I had a lot, and i only died because i was doing a 20 crate 180 db and i tried to shoot out a window with my grenade launcher and then i was attacked and couldn't get my hammer or escape because the game lagged alot. I mean a lot. So much that i could only see my ax and not swich to hammer. The things attacked me, and i had a lot of armor. Not sure if you know what i had but i had 2 pairs of athletic cups, 2 work shews, 2work geens, an m79, like 430 grenades, an mp5, again like 430 9mm ammo, a field kit with 1000 medkits someone gave me, a winchester with like 130 rounds, and my hammer. Please give my stuff back, i'm not sure exactly how i died but chico (not sure who he is on here knows what happened, it was me and him on the mission). Please give my stuff back, i worked really hard for that and dying was not really my falt cause it lagged.

The full name of the game is "Epical gladiators", however though it seems I still could dowload the game, it's actual ap store entry seems to have vanishedd completely so I don't know if it's still available (glad I didn't write a db entry for it now). On the one hand, it's always sad when an accessible game goes bye bye, on the other I can't feel too sorry about this one sinse other than it's music it was pretty much your standard grind train battle, grind train battle, with little or nothing by way of description which is exactly why I deleted it from my Iphone. As i said above, Solara is a far better game. I'd suggest you buy one of the cog or hg titles instead, or if you have all of those, maybe look at something different, I was quite please with catch 52 for what it was, and I'm just investigating ear monsters for a db entry, or how about lost cities,
a game I rather rediscovered recently.

The ironic thing is I'd just beaten Dungeon Master before I opened my Email and got the news. I'd asked him a while back if it would be possible to add the ability to add new women into the pool that the game picks from. That way you could design girls who were close to the type you might look for in real life. They'd still use the existing scenarios but the game would just have more options for what girl to put in what scenario. I don't think Jim quite realized what I was getting at though because he apparently thought I meant adding all new items or taking existing ones into different locations or something.

His DOS games were the first games I'd played after losing my sight in the late 80's, and baseball was always my favorite, though I enjoyed several of his other games too. Re: Jim Kitchen passed away

I heard of this earlier today, I haven't known him personally, and that's regretable, and the loss will be felt across all of us, for all the games we enjoyed of his creations, back through 20 years. He will be missed, and remembered, if not worldwide, then by us. The obituary I read didn't state a cause of death, 58 isn't really that old these days, some of my family are in their 80's and I have a grandmother of 93 years.

Re: Some sad news to report.

Jim Kitchin, a tribute On the second of August this year, James H Kitchin, more commonly known as Jim Kitchin passed away at the age of 58. Jim has been a major contributor to the world of accessible games for over twenty years, from the old Dos days to the more modern Windows, indeed often the first advice someone is given if they have trouble running older games on a modern machine is "Try Jim's games" Jim has written more accessible games than any other developer, and Jim's work has covered a wide variety of gaming genres, all available for free, and all with quirky sound affects, random humour and a sense of fun, from his board games like Game of life, and Monopoly, to sports games like Nfl football, and Golf. He's also delved into the realms of x rated adult games with titles like Dungeon master, has tried out some vehicle simulations, often with a quirky, arcade approach such as Puppy 1, and Homer on a harly. His love of the Simpsons continued with the epic arcade adventure title, Awesome homer. Jim's games also featured the chance for different people to get involved. Many of his games could be played between different players at the same machine, and several groups still exist who regularly play Jim's games using skype or other chat software, as well as friends and family who sit down to play games together
. Jim's games also featured some of the most major opportunities for none players to contribute, whether the over 350 Golf Courses created to be played in his Golf game, or the many question sets for his Trivia, or monopoly board configurations.Jim was a major contributer to the audeasy discussion list, where his sense of fun and humour and his willingness to be helpful to anyone from tech novices to advanced programmers always made him stand out, not to mention his regular babble reports of on list activity and his amusing taglines. Outside the world of gaming, Jim was the vice chairman of the Geauga metropolitan housing commission, and was the beloved friend and companion of MArcie Brown who passed away herself in 2009. Jim is survived by his Brother Glen and his sister Cindy, as well as his mother, and our best wishes and sympathies are with them and everyone who was closest to Jim at this sad time. Whether you ever new Jim, or just played one of his gam
es, one thing that nobody can deny is that through his astounding work, energetic personality and persistant good humour, Jim has touched the lives of hundreds of people across the world, and leaves behind him an amazing legacy that will still be giving people challenges, entertainment and hours of pleasure for years to come. To read his formal Obituary, and leave any thoughts or good wishes, please see This topic, kindly posted by Phil. And of course if you've never played Jim's games, well he might still be able to surprise, shock and delight you! sinse as he often said, he makes games that are %100 funner to play!

Re: Jim Kitchen passed away

I admit this one shocked me too, both because it was so unexpected and because Jim was hardly at the end of his life. Jim's games were certainly some of the first I ever played, indeed the fact I had so much fun with them back in 2005 even though I couldn't get any sapi voices other than Sam to work was astounding. I've introduced them to friends and to my parents, and as Slj said, the fact that the games play so much like board games is astounding and makes for some great times together, as well as some of Jim's really fun solo arcade titles such as Pong, Golf and the amazing Awesome Homer. I did not speak to Jim in person at any point, but I corresponded with him both privately and on the audeasy list quite frequently and always remember his humour and his understanding, in particular on a personal level I always liked the way that though he made adult games, he was always understanding of the fact that my genophobia precluded me from playing suc
h, despite the amount of fun I had with so many of his other titles.I even wrote a couple of golf courses in my time, and indeed will now see about finishing a project I've had in the works for a while, a Doctor Who question set for his trivia game.As to his games, with the amount of people around the world who have downloaded them, the many friends and well wishers he made and the great reputation for being quirky and fun Jim's work always had, I doubt they'll be lost any time soon. In particular I hope Cindy and the rest of Jim's family are okay. I'd love to send flowers or a tribute, but being in the wrong country that's a little hard, still I will try and write something appropriate for the news at least.

SLJ, that is basically what I had in mind too.  Because I already have a donation option on my own website, I would be able to easily combine funds anyone wanted to have spent toward flowers.  Even if no one else wanted to contribute with donations, I still intend to send something once we have a date for the memorial.

Re: Jim Kitchen passed away

I was shocked to read that Jim Kitchen has passed away. He'll bee missed for sure in the blind community world wide...I've always been fashinated of his small quite random but cool games, and I always found it cool that people didn't heard from him for very long time, and then suddenly, he has made a new small game. I think I'll download all the games in case the website will be shut down.I didn't got the reason for his early death?I think many people world wide wanna send some flowers or donate some money. I mean, it would be pretty random if people Jim even didn't knew started to send random flowers, because people properly only knew Jim because of his games. So maybe audiogames.net in any ways could set up a donating page, use Paypal or something simular, and we could donate what we want and all the money could be send as one pa
ckage from the audiogames forum? What do you think about this, and would this even be the way to do it in the US? I mean, it might be done differently in the various countries...

Well, yes, Mr. Kitchen will be missed. His death was a big big surprise to me, as well as the whole audio games.net comunity. I was fortunate enough to find a copy of the song I composed for the game that we were going to colaborate on, but it never got started, because I never had the time to get a scheduel set up for the programming and such. I gave the unfortunate news to everyone who was playing DeathMatch and I was asked if I was really telling the truth. I played taps, in my midi program, as I don't have a bugle, and have no clue how to play one, in honor of Jim.

It is with a heavy heart that I must report the passing of Mr. Jim Kitchen, owner of Kitchensinc Games. I learned of this when I opened my Email inbox this morning and found the Audyssey list flooded with messages. Jim passed away on August 2. A link to the obituary is below. Suffice it to say we lost one of the best developers this comunity has ever known, for those his titles were usually simple they nevertheless provided and will hopefully continue to provide hours of quality entertainment. Here's a basic demo, almost an attract mode for the current version of Killer Instinct, demonstrating Season 1 and 2 characters (by no means all), as well as the aforementioned accessibility cues in archived fights, replayed at normal speed.I do change the difficulty at times, so you will see me get beaten and I will say that I'm probably not playing at my best partly because it's the CPU and with fighting game AI normally you have to find ways in and work with the opportunities the computer gives you.I use the classic announcer for this demo as well, but if you want other demos like this with different announcers, seeing the character select screen, fights without music entirely, etc, let me know and I'll look into it.Here's the demo

I'd like to provide a little context for people who aren't playing hardcore very much to help explain why things have come to this point. For a certain amount of time (how long I'm not sure) one clan owned all 20 forts in the game. This of course gave them a huge boost to their exp rate while sitting in forts, which they used (not to say abused) to the point that there are now quite a few characters running around at level 1000, or 2000, or 3000. When version 3.6B came out, Aprone reset the rate at which exp is generated for people with multiple forts, and soon after another group of players were able to steal most of the forts back. I wasn't there for the fighting but I am a member of the clan that currently owns 14 of the forts, so I feel I have some perspective to add that most players don't have.First, just because we own so many does not mean we fortify them. Most have less than a hundred food. Several have none at all. In fact, we have b
een battling electroshack and others back and forth for weeks in order to keep them. They'll take a fort so we'll take it back, they go after a fort and we take another of theirs. And so on. This is fine, it's how the game was intended to work. So I really don't see how we're breaking anything by having a lot of forts. Were there more factions at play, we probably would have let most of them go to newer clans by now, but as another poster said earlier there are rarely more than 30 people online at a time anymore. So reset the forts/food if you want, I don't think its necessary but I'm not too fussed about it because I'm confident we can rebuild. That leaves levels and inventory. We currently have some people running around at level 50 or 60, and others at level 3198. This is pretty much a worst case scenario for anyone new trying to overturn the apple cart, and makes fort battles totally ridiculous. There's no way for me, a &q
uot;lowly" level 180, or even me and two others of similar level, to defend a fort from even 1 of these characters. Put a thousand points into health and another thousand into the flamethrower and I can one-shot kill anyone while they empty clip after clip of minigun into me to little effect. That's not exactly a challenge, for either player; it's swatting a bug from one perspective and climbing Mt. Olympus from the other. Even if you do manage to kill one of them, what of it? They'll just come back in 5 minutes and kill you back. There's simply no defense against someone with 20 times your points, apart from making friends with someone else with a lot of points from a different clan. Considering there are also language barriers at play, I don't think that's a fair solution. So I think levels should probably be reset, but I have no idea how to do so fairly because some folks earned those levels through hard "work" missioning and so
on whereas certain folks simply took advantage of a time when the reward for doing nothing was higher. Thus, resetting everybody is a huge slap to the people who did put in the months of effort to "earn" what they have. Which brings us to inventory, and my final point. Most people probably know by now that a lot of experienced players will have an extra "storage" character for most of their gear because dying--in hardcore especially--is so brutal. Even the non hardcore characters have gear you can't buy that is valuable and would take considerable time to relocate. I don't do this myself, and I could see how this might irritate people because it is technically cheating, in that it exploits one system in an unintended way to get around the negative consequences of another. Here's the thing, though: it keeps people IN THE GAME! If you reset everyone to level 1 with a blank inventory, including storage characters, well, you're gonna have a
lot of angry players who did nothing wrong. I have less than 2 months left on my gamer account at the moment, so what this basically says to me is, thank you for all your hard work, now as a reward, pay me actual money for the privilege of doing it all over again. I can tell you right now: I won't do it. And I don't think many others will either.

Re: Jim Kitchen passed away

The date for his memorial has not yet been set (according to the funeral home website), but when it is I am more than willing to send a flower arrangement on behalf of the audiogames.net community.  I did not personally know Jim so I don't want to step on the toes of anyone else who wanted to do this.  If no one else comes forward, wanting this responsibility, then I will gladly handle it.On the Audyssey list I have offered my help in sorting out Jim's computer and software situation.  I hear that his family would like someone "nearby" to help them with it, and I live 3 hours away from there.  If they decide they want my assistance, I think I can help since I have a lot of experience with the programming language he used for his games.

Ok, doing it while TalkBack was reading made the difference, but that irritating volume change dialog still popped up four times, which was the number of times I pressed it. I don't have a controls item in app>settings, nor anything about voice control. My luck, that's not something available on this LG. That seems ironic, because I was just playing one of his games about 2 hours ago. I only actually talked to him once, and that was a phone call where I told him about a game idea I had. Jim Kitchen will be remembered. Maybe a later generation of devs will get his sorce code, some how and continue to make updates to his games. The things I liked about his games were that they incouraged face to face play against others, as if the board games were really on the table, and the games weren't too complex, almost like playing a gamebook with sound, with the acception of his racing game, the homer games, and his plane fighting game. He told me where he got all his sounds from. They were all from various toys and such. I wonder if someone who has his computer will put up the sorce code. Re: Should HC get a reset in Swamp? Time to vote!

We really need Aprone to forsake his entire life and devote it to us instead of his family. There are so many awesome things that could be done but simply require too much time. Of course I'm only playing but if we're going to talk change then I have a couple ideas even if they're impossible to pull off.Players at level cap could start doing arena battles much like the missions are run now. Brackets could be set up, monthly or weekly leaderboards, rewards for coming in first, second, or third, and so on. These sorts of things would make nobody give a poop about having a level cap.I'm basically thinking about games I used to play back when my eyes worked and there are a zillion ideas that could possibly replace the HC fort battles and make the entire experience better for everyone. I know this would take a lot of time and we probably take too much already but What about boss missions or instances? You could make a team of people say over level 300 an
d you enter a certain map or something where you have to complete a series of tasks, kill a few boss type zombies, then go back home. Again, I'm thinking along the lines of raids in World of Warcraft We could have some super creative things done and make it about teamwork instead of just grabbing a ton of crates solo.I'm just throwing ideas out there now. Arenas and raids instead of forts? ? Or possibly just a death match mission in the short term. I don't really know what's possible.

Re: touch screen phones

Ok, there we go again. If you like to increase the volume of talkback, what you should do is focus the talkback where there's something to read, like any help menu or the weather app, and start pressing the button which increases the volume. It should work. That's what I do.I'm using a Samsung, but since your phone is an android 4.4.2, then they should be similar, although Samsung devices are not android stocked. Now, to turn on voice commands you should go to applications>settings>controls and move your finger around the screen until you find voice control. Check the button answering incoming calls, and near the right top cornor of the phone there should be an off and on button, turn it on. Additionally, you could activate voice commands to change the songs in the google music app. By saying next, previous and pause. You could even select voice commands to stop the alarm from ringing. To make the google keyboard work with all apps, all you n
eed to do is to go to settings>controls>language and input and move your finger until you hear keyboard, or LG keyboard. Tap on it and then click on setup keyboard methods. Set the google keyboard as the default and it should work with all apps then.Hope it helps. If you cannot figure out how to make the google keyboard app work with all applications, then tell me.

Re: Considering switching to Java, recommended resources for learning how

The thing that drives me away from C++ is, as stated in many books I've read on the language, C++ comes with all the issues that C has, and, in fact, introduces many new issues that make people use other languages. Things like memory management - C allows you to do dangerous things with that (dangling pointers, no out-of-bounds array checking, etc.) - and C++ introduces the new, new[], delete, and delete[] operators, which furthermore complements the memory management issue. I agree, Tward, that c++ is a great language - and I use it a lot - but when it comes to memory management, I use something else. I do enjoy many aspects about C++ other than memory management issues though. Things like classes, namespaces, etc. allow you to sort your code into different sections - if you will - to organize it, while C just is a huge mess.Another thing I like about C++ are templates. They allow you to make functions that can take any type of argument - it's quite cool. (that re
minds me of the vaargs and mixed types in LPC.) Also, C and C++ is, for me at least, one of the best languages for writing compilers, parsers, and interpreters. (Java is the second best choice for me on that one.)I could go into hundreds of debates with you all on what game was written in what language, and what languages are the best for so and so, but I don't have time for such debates - unless you can spare about a year or so for arguments that have no end, meaning, and that go absolutely nowhere and accomplish nothing.

Re: Should HC get a reset in Swamp? Time to vote!

We really need Aprone to forsake his entire life and devote it to us instead of his family. There are so many awesome things that could be done but simply require too much time.Players at level cap could start doing arena battles much like the missions are run now. Brackets could be set up, monthly or weekly leaderboards, rewards for coming in first, second, or third, and so on. These sorts of things would make nobody give a poop about a level cap.I'm basically thinking about games I used to play back when my eyes worked and there are a zillion ideas but like I said at the start poor Aprone has a life and sometimes I feel like he spends too much of it on us anyway. Now that I've said that. What about boss missions or instances? You could make a team of people say over level 300 and you enter a certain map or something where you have to complete a series of tasks, kill a few boss type zombies, then go back home. Again, I'm thinking along the lines of
raids in World of Warcraaft. We could have some super creative things done and make it about teamwork instead of just grabbing a ton of crates solo.I'm just throwing ideas out there now. Arenas and raids instead of forts? What do you think about that good Music Man?

Also... You guys do know that Youtube-DL supports video to audio conversions... You don't really need to outsource that to another program... Just download the FFMPEG binaries and put them in you're path (system32 or syswo64), and pass the -x --audio-format "mp3" args to YDl, then -k if you'd like to keep the video files as well.

Re: I have a Problem with talking dos box

Going to give you some general pointers because now there's so many versions of this thing, mostly because I'm lazy. Oh wellOK so first of all, what I find tends to help is setting ems to false in dosbox.conf. If this still doesn't fix the problem, running software speech (aka jaws/flipper wit the soundblaster tts) seems to cause a lot of freezing, especially when running more complex games with sound. So, if you can, try and set up using any of the BNS emulators, either the one with espeak or the ones with screen reader support, and run ASAP instead of jaws.

Re: Should HC get a reset in Swamp? Time to vote!

Interesting suggestions SP! I really like them. Level caps or getting rid of forts sounds like potential solutions. I kinda like the getting rid of forts idea for several reasons, main one being, there aren't enough people playing the game to make fort battles fun. It would've made sense back in the day when we had 80 people logged in at one time, but now we barely have 20, and sometimes only like 13. Messing around with leveling system would suck in a way, since that's about all we can do in Swamp apart from titles. If there were other interesting insentives to get rid of a ton of levels, for instance let' say if you purposefully trash 200 of your levels, you get to perm a weapon, even if you die. in that case, it'd make more sense. But if we get rid of leveling, what are we left with?

Re: Should HC get a reset in Swamp? Time to vote!

I converted TheDevil to HC when many of the Nuts were over level 1000. I took myself on missions and got over 1000 levels just to be able to compete. If a full reset does happen I won't be doing it again. I have a beautiful inventory right now too that I've spent months building. There has to be a better way to deal with this.  I think that maybe HC needs to have a level cap. Sure it's nice having almost 1400 points to spend but the reality is that some people can play more than others and will always, no matter what, be ahead. Sure regular resets will take care of that but personally I wouldn't put my time and energy into something I know is just going to be reset.Maybe what needs to happen is forts and fort battles go away. I really don't want to have to level up another character but it's always the forts that are causing the issues. Maybe we should talk about getting rid of forts, making a slot in safe zones so each player can have one,
and introducing a death match mission that rewards some sort honor other than experience. That way if you're the top killer everyone will know it.I think there are a lot of ways out of this without having to waste so much but I don't know. I get that there are some players over level l1000 that can't do anything more than n10 crate missions and I do agree that is frustrating but some of us earned our levels the hard way and I just don't like the thought of losing it all. Like I said though, maybe it's time for a HC only level cap and instead of resetting everyone back to level 1 we get put to level 500 or something. This ensures that there's enough points for health, armor, and some extra perks but not so many points and things get crazy.Speaking of crazy, the thrower for PVP is out of control. Players hundreds of levels lower than me can kill me before i can even get a shot off.Anyway, with the level cap it gives people the cha
nce to focus on something else other than strait earning missions so they can have points so they can hold forts. Just like any idea I'm sure I haven't thought of everything and I'm sure some people will hate the shit out of this but that happens with any sort of change.Level cap is the way to go.

Re: touch screen phones

Yeah, there's no physical home button, unfortunately, and neither the back nor the home buttons actually read when I slide over them, which is a real pain, but I think I've finally figured out generally where on the screen they're located enough I can just tap and have a descent chance of activating them. I did finally find the power button ends call option this morning, so I'm good there. I know there's voice answering of calls, I just can't figure out where to turn it on. Yeah, this LG keyboard does stink, so thanks for the suggestion to get the other, I'll give it a try. I've discovered Google Now, but I can only seem to get it running when in the Google app, even though I've read it's supposed to work on all screens, so I'm guessing there must be a setting somewhere I haven't yet been able to find. I did come across one problem this mrning that bugs me, I'm trying to raise my media volume, because TalkBack is jus
t a little lower than I'd like, but when I click the volume button, it brings up this volume window with sliders to make the necessary adjustments, and I *cough cough* accidently keep setting it lower, even to the point a couple times of going to 0, though thankfully I know where the cancel button is. How do I adjust a slider control like this up? Blasted thing's set at 45%, I'd like it a touch higher, but none of the tapping or swiping I've done towards the right seems to raise it.
