Re: Mortal Kombat 11 not delayed at all!

I watched a brief video someone made on the menu stuff.  Is it only the main menus? I would love if they did the same thing for the training/practice menus. As for cool developments, apparently D'vorah can summon a bug to take her place when she dies to fight on in her stead which sounds awesome.  As for hyped characters, Cetreon sounds awesome, long range and punishes anything that gets close.  Not to mention she sounds easy to use for new folks which is a bonus for me.  I have played every installment of this game in the past, but I have never taken it very seriously, only played on the couch with friends, but I might try actually learning how to play fighting games properly for this one.Someone already gifted me the deluxe edition on steam.  For some reason the game is extremely cheap here, the interwebs speculates that it is some kind of error on steam, but I benefited while I could.  the base version here costs about $30 and the Premium edition or whatever it is called is less than $50.  I would have preferred it on PS4, but the price there is still a full $60 for the base version, so why would I pay more for less?Anyone else grabbing it on PC? I would like playing against other blind folks at first.  How hard is it to survive online with a game like this.  I know there are blind competitive players, but how hard is it for the average joe to get to a level where you can still win often?

You can also open the file in notepad/whatever text editor (raw text editor) and look for either PE  l or PE  d. If you find PE  l, you've got a 32-bit DLL; if is PE  d, you've got 64-bit. At least, that's according to a stack overflow post.I'm suffering a new problem now. I have a menu state (I'm using hump.gamestate). The :enter function sets up audio sources. For some reason, the background music is playing only about a half-second and then immediately rewinding back to the beginning. I know that that's not the end, since the file is over 7 minutes long. This happens with both streaming and static sources. This however does not happen with any other source though, other than the BGM.Edit: this actually does happen. I removed the BGM to est my theory and it happens as soon as I go to play a new source. And I have no idea why its happening either.

Wireless Headphones for Gaming: Recommendations

Wireless Headphones for Gaming: Recommendations

I use a wireless keyboard, and I sit probably seven or eight feet from my computer desk. I'm not facing it directly. It's hard to sit at the desk itself, because of sciatic nerve pain etc.Consequently, I suck at every game I try to play which involves hearing where sounds are coming from and reacting.I wonder if anyone can provide recommendations for wireless headphones that are best for gaming.I would like it if I could hear the game in stereo, but still be able to hear what's going on around me, and I'd prefer no wires for the headphones.Tell me your best recs for this, and if you know the price, please. There are games I think I'd really love and get into, if I could have the immersive sound. Thanks so much.

Alter Aeon April 2019 Update

2019-04-10 Thread AudioGames . net Forum — New releases room : Shadowfax via Audiogames-reflector

Alter Aeon April 2019 Update

Last month we celebrated Saint Patrick's Day and the Spring Equinox with the Spring Festival 2019 event!  Players had a great time, and circumstances throughout the event led us to discover some bugs to fix and inspired us to code some additional building tools to make events and death marches in the future run more smoothly.Code updates in March include:- A new level 33 necromancer skill 'soulsmith'. Necromancers adept at the gemcutting skill can learn to add soulstones to crafted jewelry as if they were gemstones. High-level soulstones are difficult to mount, but result in more powerful jewelry.- Rune-based channel casting options - these changes allows mages to add blasting damage to spells, focus them into cutting beams, increase the cast level and more, at the cost of additional mana. Help pages now show if a spell can be channel cast.- Lapidary, leathercraft, woodcraft and bonecraft check can now be used on crafted items to determine what additions can be added to them. A 'check' option has been add to 'metalurgy enhance' for check what enhancements can be used on objects.- The 'climb' command has been deprecated. Players will automatically use their climb skill when moving through climb-only exits.- Small tweaks to luck to make luck checks more internally consistent.- The option of adding more details to heraldic symbols, such as them being wreathed in flame or covered with armor. In March we released the third and final Tower of Learning on the east side of Dragon Tooth. There are three areas that we should have finished within the next two months:- the Valley of the Sacerdotes, a level 41 area on Crepuscula- the Heliacal Moors, a level 42 area on Diurnus- the Pool of Radiance, another level 42 area on DiurnusExpect more refinement in crafting skills coming up in the next couple of months. We are once again working toward making naval combat and trade a reality.  It is our hope to have naval encounters ready some time in May and naval trade ready before the summer event in June.Watch for Easter Eggs when foraging this month: now with improved colors! For more information can be found at our April Youtube audio presentation here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t_uQITu4mBo-Shadowfax

Re: Love2D: a simple, featureful game engine for most platforms

I'd mentioned using Luigi for my GUI. It doesn't expose all the events we'll need, but if you're looking for a sightling to do that then you're coding in the wrong area. You'll want to use my fork at https://github.com/ndarilek/luigi which at least includes a focus event. See the diff for how to do it. It isn't that hard, and I or someone else is going to have to build that out. You're not going to find a game GUI with anything resembling a screen reader accessibility API, but some will at least nod in that direction, and you're going to have to take those and run with them, that or build an entire *other* thing from scratch.

Re: Love2D: a simple, featureful game engine for most platforms

@24, nice. I use game states. Its a primitive form of a finite state machine. The only thing this state machine is missing is transitions. (I've tried modeling a game loop with a full FSM; it doesn't work. At least, I could never get it to make sense.) So, te primitive FSM can switch out two states, cleaning up the state your switching from and allowing the state your switching to to take control, or you can push and pop states, which is like a stack: if you push a state, it pauses the previous state and lets the state take control, and when you pop that state off of the stack, the old state resumes. Its pretty much Amethyst's ECS state manager without the transitions. And itsvery fun to use (my menu class uses the switch from/to to tell you what option the user selected in it). Its pretty clever, IMO. Definitely isn't original though.I couldn't find a GUI library that I was contented with. Not for LOVE, anyway. I checked out Gspot (certainly didn't hit the spot, if you catch my drift), And CatUI certainly wasn't purring contentedly either. Is there any way I can tie in the libraris your using to complete a GUI that lets me capture all the events I need (focus, highlighted, selected, clicked, ...)?

Re: Trying to get Love2D game working under Windows, works fine on Linux

For future reference. To determine whether a dll is 32 or 64 bit you have a couple options. Either use file (the unix utility) on windows with cygwin or mingw, dependency walker or write a script to decipher the info.File is simple asfile bla.dllbla.dll: PE32 executable (DLL) (GUI) Intel 80386, for MS WindowsWith dependency walker, control+o, locate file, check the CPU tab.The writing a script option isn't as straight forward, have a look at the PE file format. You're looking for machine in the COFF header. This shouldn't be necessary, as shown quite a few other options exist already. Could be a beginner exercise though. For OS X speech, I'd personally try getting LuaCocoa to interface with NsSpeechSynthasizer. It's apparently a new version of LuaObjCBridge, for python people a lua pyobjc like thing. While it certainly looks promicing, I've never tried and unfortunately don't have the time to throw something together at the moment. Another last ditch option is to simply os.execute "say" with parameters but that should be avoided at all costs.

I really like the new update that just came out. You can continue as your child after you die, or relive the life you just lived. You can also reorganize the cemetery. I read that you can delete lives from the cemetery but I haven't figured out how.

Alright, so I've successfully jailbroken. Is this jailbreak still semi-untethered, so I will have to jailbreak on each subsequent boot?Edit: Apparently, it is. If Cydia or any unsigned app doesn't load, then you know you need to run the thing over again.

Re: Love2D: a simple, featureful game engine for most platforms

So essentially what I'm doing is: * I use Lovetoys as an ECS. You get some great library names with this, I'll say that. I was briefly evaluating the Gspot GUI library. * Lovetoys handles my actual game objects. If Lovetoys isn't updating, the game isn't updating. * I use Luigi for my GUI. Luigi uses a Layout to store all widgets associated with the currently-displayed GUI. * If there's a `gui` variable set to a non-nil value, love.update() doesn't run engine:update() (I.e. the ECS update procedure) so the game is effectively paused. * I thought about using a menu stack, but realistically I don't really need it. I just need a single previous layout. My nested layout screens just check for the presence of that. If it's set, display it and then set it to nil.So in short, love.load() displays my start menu and sets the `gui` variable to that layout. Clicking Start clears that, initializes the ECS engine instance, at which point love.update() starts updating the ECS on each game tick. Pressing escape creates the in-game menu GUI, sets gui to that layout, and stops calling the ECS update procedures. It also dispatches a Pause event, which pauses any playing sounds on any entities marked with the Pausable component. You really don't need a complex state-tracking system--at least, not initially. You also really don't need every ounce of performance for an audio game--at least, not initially. I remember playing GMA Tank Commander and Shades of Doom on an old referbished low-end Pentium laptop running Windows XP. But if you ever *do* need that, Love lets you rewrite hot code paths in LuaJIT's FFI module to call directly into C. There are also a few game state systems which I might adopt if I ever find I need them. But for now, everything is in cleanly-defined functions that are all just a few lines long and easy to follow. It's about shipping product, not creating an architectural marvel.

Re: Accessible Sound Design - First Lesson Up, Interaction Ending 13/4

At 145Mostly I'm just adding effects and tweaking dials until I hear the sound I have in my head. I have some understanding of the terms, but not much beyond the basics. So this course will do me a lot of good in better understanding what's really going on under the hood.I did a lot of searching on YouTube a while back about how to get a radio kind of effect, so I kind of already had the idea of how to do it.I've also done some work in plosive and sibilance reduction. But most of what I know is just me being persistent and not being happy until I get the effect I want.

This is my speech code. Works on Linux and under Wine. If you can get it working under MacOS too, I'd appreciate the contribution. Note that this is the first Lua I've written in a decade or so, so make of it what you will.-- The Windows portions of this code were adapted from the Pokecrystal Access scripts by Tyler Spivey.

I’ll just say this, i can’t and won’t try to discredit any of brandon’s claims because nothing i say can really change anything. All i’ll say for now is that those of you who saw brandon’s any audio post also saw how he basically claimed the intire thing was his own and didn’t even give me a mention, something yall are now accusing me of doing. Even if his crap about writing most of the game were true, he really wouldn’t have much ground to stand on. I hadn’t done anything with minefield in a couple months, since around just before christmas, partly because of sbp and the hole tk thing, but also because i lost motivation for quite a long time. While i wasn’t around brandon did a lot of stuff, no question there. I gave him what i thaught was quite a lot of credit, but if you’d felt you were being under appreetiated or whatever you could have talked to me privately and we could have resolved it privately. That said, can we actually, ya know, go back to what this topic was meant for rather than flaming?

Try creating a game, and not giving the source to anybody in the first place? Or you know what, learn the proper ways to collaborate on open source projects like GitHub, and then such a thing can simply not happen. Right now, you sending us the code wont do anything but create unnecessary drama. Nothing you do will ever proove that the code is or is not yours. Now, it would be really nice if you moved that discussion privately so people can actually make useful and constructive comments about the game.

Re: Does 24 bit audio have any real difference from 16 in turms of noise?

To add to 3rd post, every bit equals to about 6dB of volume. So, 16 bit would be a total of 96dB full volume, which is enough in most cases, but can be a problem for classical music. A symphonic orchestra can sometimes go up to 110dB, quite near our upper limit. All in all, record at 24bit, edit it the way you want, export/render at 16 bit. Best practice, from my own experience.

Time for me to chime, in. So no. Nice, short and simple. The only thing charlie sent me was a thing with a move system with no timers. That's, it. No other thing here was coded in by him, until he got the source from a certain person who wasn't me. I know who you got it from charlie and I don't care. I can't care less if its yours. It's fine. What I don't like is you taking credit for things you don't do. Amerikranian got a version that had no, I repeat, no, mine detector. And no, nobody but me added said detector. Im just saying. I did the majority if not all the coding for this game. If you guys want to see what charlie sent me, then let me know. I'll be glad to show off the code that, "he", contributed. Thanks and enjoy mf lmfao.

Re: Eurofly is driving me crazy!

2019-04-10 Thread AudioGames . net Forum — General Game Discussion : ironcross32 via Audiogames-reflector

Re: Eurofly is driving me crazy!

OK, let's tackle these points bit by bit.Rastislav Kiss wrote:to clarify what means Eurofly is a flight simulator. What's unique on Eurofly is, how it handles its world map. While many games use a simple 2D map to move around, this approach is very inaccurate when you want to work with spheroid like Earth is. Thus Eurofly uses special mathematical formulas to calculate realistic movement on 3D object rather than flattened 2D plane. That's why it's called flight simulator, it simulates a plane flying on Earth, so you travel on the same track like real plane would. This is the part that I like, the map is nice to walk around in, and it's cool to fly over your country, or explore new geography you're not familiar with. However, that doesn't make this a flight simulator because a flight simulator attempts to recreate the flight model of an aircraft as well as the world in which it flies. Eurofly doesn't accurately simulate the aircraft, which in all actuality is fine, however, labeling it as a flight simulator is a bit of a misnomer.Rastislav Kiss wrote:Also another note on this topic, there are many blind people out there, who claims themselves to be super aviation experts. I don't know what and where they have studied. But one thing I am sure about is, that none of this guys has ever piloted a plane. You have no way of knowing that. Also, if you would have said piloted a plane alone, I could have put more stock into what you say, but you don't know if one or more of us have ever gotten to take the controls of a plane in flight. I personally haven't, but it comes off as rather pretentious of you to say that none of us have. Also, what's wrong with being an aviation enthusiast? I almost detect a condescending tone in that phrasing; which, I fully admit, could be my own interpretation since text doesn't really convey emotion well.Rastislav Kiss wrote:Answer is simple, to keep it all simple. Omitting fact that coding realistic flight simulator is extremely hard, what you can see exactly on those aviation experts, who have presented nothing at all, even when they have few people who claim themselves as experienced programmers, it would be too hard for average player to learn it.No doubt it's difficult, in fact, maddengly difficult I'd be confident to venture. I don't know what you mean by presented nothing at all, I, and several others have gone into great detail to try to shed some light on what Eurofly doesn't have as far as accurate flight model simulation. So, saying we've presented nothing is a bit of a slap in the face. As far as coding, it's not our project, we only provided information, it's not our job to code Eurofly, and it's not our place to do so. Also, I agree that it is difficult to learn, I will expound further on this in a bit.All that said, if people are enjoying it, that's fine. But you also need to keep in mind that if you label something, and that product doesn't live up to the label you've attached to it, people will call you out on it. I'm sorry, but Eurofly is not a flight simulator. Also, even if you didn't add any more realistic features to the game, the flight system is still very much using skip logic. You don't just die if you go off the runway on to the grass, so why not make that a thing that slows you way down, and if you do it, you have to back up onto the taxiway or runway again and you get a penalty for going onto the grass. Also, if your speed is too low, your flaps aren't extended and so on, these are not things that would cause your plane to crash on take off, at least, not in the instantaneous way you represent it. Then you try to simulate drag by increasing like 20KM/h on some planes when you retract the gear and slowing it when you extend the gear. This causes you to crash, and causes you to have to perform weird throttling maneuvers that you just wouldn't do while taking off. Now that's something that just doesn't need to be there because it will make things more difficult for the average player. The simple fact is though, planes can take off without their flaps, they're just going to use more runway in the process. You use flaps to shorten your take off roll and to help generate some initial lift. There's much more going on than a chain of if/then/else statements in real flying.I don't really want to go full on with this again though, as last time, it had absolutely no effect, so I'll just say that there's no reason to be attacking us, who call ourselves aviation enthusiasts because we were disappointed by Eurofly. It was over-hyped and called a flight simulator and this and that, which it just isn't. There are definitely some cool things about eurofly, and quite a few people are playing it and loving it, which is fine, but when you make claims about it that just aren't true, then some people are going to express their displeasure about that.

Dungeon adventure has a lot going on and will certainly keep your interest, though don't expect an easy time since the game is very much a roguelike, random and hard. Six swords is semi randomised, so  theoretically there should be more to the game, different loot monsters weapons, quests  etc, which is why I am personally so disappointed with the game, it promised a lot and never seemed to deliver.

Re: Does 24 bit audio have any real difference from 16 in turms of noise?

For a recording device, the more important question is whether the noise floor of the preamps is significantly higher than the noise floor imposed by the bit depth. If so, it won't make much of a difference. For 16 bit you have a noise floor of around -87 dB if I remember correctly. For 24 bit it is significantly lower. But in plain terms, if you want to be safe you should always record in 24 bit. The damage introduced to the signal when using a lower bit depth can never be reversed, but you can always scale down to 16 bit later if your source audio is at a higher bit depth to begin with.Kind regards,Philip Bennefall

Re: Minefield concept demo

I feel like I need to chime in for a single reason:I, once again, started this argument.Allow me to explain:About 8 months ago, I was on Teamtalk with Brandon. We were chatting about games, and he asked me something along the lines of this:"Hey, do you want to see a game I'm working on?"I agreed, and was thus introduced to Minefield. It was interesting, that's for sure. The game was fun, the monster was amusing, and yet I couldn't understand something. I was learning the basics of python coming off from failing at learning bgt because of the lack of help I received, and I couldn't understand how it all worked. I couldn't understand how a player was walking, why the mines were blowing up as I stepped on them, and how did the monster know where I was at all times. When I told this to Brandon, he immediately had this idea:Why won't you look at the source of the game yourself? And so I did. I looked. I learned. I wondered. After looking at the game for a couple of hours, I asked myself this: What if I started to add things to the original concept? And thus, the idea of multiple monsters, items, and boards falling from the sky came into light on a single day. It worked, too.I am not accusing anyone of using somebody else's source code. All I'm doing is giving the entire story. I was a person who saw minefield being built, I was a person who screwed around with it and added the items, I was a person who has heard both sides claiming the ownership of the code.To those who wonder how much of the game Charlie coded, I don't know. The game could be using my object class, and that's fine. Like I said, I'm just the person with the entire picture here. I don't want credit. I don't want to be mentioned in the readme, all I'm doing is giving more trusted facts for you all to wonder about.I'll not state my opinions here, no. Doing so will just add fuel to the fire, but suffice to say, I'm watching this topic.

I mount the file:if not love.filesystem.mount("audio.zip", "audio") then-- handle errorendI then run the following function on the mounted directory:function recursiveEnumerate(folder, fileTree)    local lfs = love.filesystem    local filesTable = lfs.getDirectoryItems(folder)    for i, v in ipairs(filesTable) do        local file = folder.."/"..v        local info = lfs.getInfo(file)        if info.type == lfs.file then            fileTree = fileTree.insert(fileTree, file)        elseif info.type == lfs.directory then            fileTree = recursiveEnumerate(file, fileTree)        end    end    return fileTreeendYes, thank you, LOVE Wiki.I then iterate through the table:for k, file in ipairs(recursiveEnumerate("audio/audio", {})) dosounds[file] = love.sound.newSoundData(file)end(The sounds table is created globally.)But here's where the problems start. As soon as I type "lovec lgame" (which is my game...) it just sits there, then crashes for no apparent reason. No lua error, no error message dialog, nothing. This is a 64-bit version, if I'm not mistaken, so even if I am going above the 4 GB mark this shouldn't be happening.Edit: OK, I see why now. Its not scanning the directories properly... Huh...Edit 2: fixed!

Still getting the rootfs already mounted error. And no, I'm not seeing an ota update file in settings/general/iphone storage, but I am seeing an update badge under software updates.

Re: Eurofly is driving me crazy!

2019-04-10 Thread AudioGames . net Forum — General Game Discussion : Rastislav Kiss via Audiogames-reflector

Re: Eurofly is driving me crazy!

@nolan: thank you for playing Eurofly. It's true that game mechanics may seem bit complicated for first time. Sadly there probably isn't other way than trying, there are resources on:http://eurofly.stefankiss.sk/modules.ph … Helpcenterwhich can help you.to clarify what means Eurofly is a flight simulator. That's why it's called flight simulator, it simulates a plane flying on Earth, so you travel on the same track like real plane would.now if this is what you want, then Eurofly looks like a good option for you.If you are looking for a realistic physical simulation of plane, then Eurofly probably wouldn't suit your needs. Also another note on this topic, there are many blind people out there, who claims themselves to be super aviation experts. I don't know what and where they have studied. But one thing I am sure about is, that none of this guys has ever piloted a plane. And it's for a reason. Basically, if you make 100% realistic simulation, with plane physics, airport traffic etc. then you most likely wouldn't even be able to take off, neither land or wait near airports to land. it isn't pleasant to hear, but it's a fact. Our ears are too weak when compared with sight, I was sighted for about 11 years, so i know what I'm talking about. Now, to be more optimistic, there are approaches, which for example help you in critical parts of flight, and let you controll those parts where sight isn't that important. You can search for them if you want a near realistic simulation.so, why don't we introduce those assistive technologies as well?Answer is simple, to keep it all simple. Omitting fact that coding realistic flight simulator is extremely hard, what you can see exactly on those aviation experts, who have presented nothing at all, even when they have few people who claim themselves as experienced programmers, it would be too hard for average player to learn it. many have had problems in this version already, I can't imagine our contact channels if we introduced a fully realistic flight simulator.there are few people who want it, we're okay with it, but there are thousands others who don't. Features like the ability to go backward, was requested by users. We are trying to make some compromises to improve realisticity, but there are limits.Having that said, you should now be able to decide if it's worth for you to continue with Eurofly or not. if you are interested in world's geography, then I strongly recommend it.if you want a realistic simulator and the map isn't important for you, then it would probably be better for you to look for another simulator.Anyway I wish you good luck and fun.:)best regardsRastislav
