Re: Manamon II to be featured at popular charity speed run event!

Arguably starting with Keduddle handles both the bugs and Turrubble, so that might be the true best for a speedrun, but a Doving strat definitely works well for Skeeter, and Greccho rips apart rocks, so there's that. Later-game, Bamboustica is one of those mons that hits a lot and also dies to a lot.

Re: Bloodbath released!

Jimmy is upset that Haily told him to shut up and get the chip off his shoulder.I came in here and explained why frankly I feel the same way.I did not punish Jimmy. I did not threaten him. I have no intention of letting my personal feelings get in the way. My personal feelings are considerably stronger and more aggressive than what I've stated here.My best advice, going forward, is that during whatever time Haily has left on the forum, she and Jimmy leave each other alone. This means no sniping, no telling each other to shut the fuck up, no attacks, no backhanded "yeah, even the mods agree" comments, no "you're a bad trans person for getting upset this way" comments. This situation is clearly loaded, and it's not just loaded on one side. I refuse to accept Jimmy as an innocent victim here - the story is far too complex for that - and I also refuse to accept Haily as an innocent victim either. My prior post was just me calling a spade a spade. You do not get to come in here and cry foul because someone took issue with you saying something foolish. We all say foolish things sometimes, and sometimes it takes another user telling us we should stop what we're doing in order to get perspective.Tl.dr: I'm not changing my overall tune, but I want Haily and Jimmy to just leave each other alone inasmuch as that's possible. I'm not going to stop dealing with trans issues, here or elsewhere, and I don't think I'm letting my emotions getting in the way. I don't appreciate essentially being tone policed in this fashion, and I've stated multiple times that my personal feelings, if I'd just given in to them, would've had me doing far worse than I've done. I don't think I'm out of line here - and yes, I've thought on this - but I don't intend to keep badgering anyone. Thankfully, if Haily and Jimmy leave one another alone from here on out, it shouldn't even have to be an issue. Now, I'm going to kindly ask that this topic return more to the issues that birthed it (i.e., the game itself). You can think what you want about my moderation style and my apparent bias, but come talk to me privately or start a different thread if you think you want me gone and want to start a movement or something. I apologize for being part of this thread's derailing.

Hi,@Cai, yesterday I had a little chance to play around with your idea/suggestion, it was actually a nice little break from my final round of internal  bug testing which I’ve been working flat out on recently (but for anyone interested, the internal testing is going really well ). I’ve now added code so that  as well as the option to open locks with keys, you can now use abilities/skills to open locks too. at the point of creating  the ability you can specify custom text and sounds which are used when the ability/skill is used, hopefully by adding these options this gives a variety of options as to how/what the ability/skill is used for, so as you mentioned it might be a lock picking skill or an ability which is more magically based which will open the lock. As an example if you wanted it to be a lock picking skill  you could add custom lock picking sounds and text, so when you finally reach that secret locked  vault of Aladdins I know you want into so badly   it could be set that it fires a lock picking sound with some text which would maybe read Cai uses his skill in thievery to deftly pick the lock, or whatever custom text you wanted it to read. . hope you and others find the new feature helpful, I think it was a good idea  and could add some interesting mechanics into games and was nice and easy to add in.@ number 368, thanks for taking the time to watch all the videos and also for all the positive comments too, as mentioned before it’s great to see people so enthusiastic about the project. I’m hoping to get  part 2 of the latest video out this week , I’ll as ever post the link to the video here and I hope you enjoy the new video as much as the previous ones, I know I’m really looking forward to recording it. Windows Forms design patterns

2020-02-17 Thread AudioGames . net Forum — Developers room : Nuno via Audiogames-reflector

Windows Forms design patterns

hello. Which of the design patterns for UI design you use/used in Winforms development? People recommend MVP, but I took a different approach. Let's say I am building a music querying application. So i have my UI, which in itself does not have any logic, it's just an UI with some pretty buttons, menus and icons that the user can click on to get data. The whole logic however, resides in another .NET assembly, something like MySuperMusicQueryAPP_Engine.dll.Is that approach good? Are there any advantages with using MVP than doing this my way?I am looking for your opinion on this.

Re: Docker usage

I never used Vagrant. I however use Docker quite frequently, both at work and privately. The fact that I never heard of Vagrant, plus googling it shows that it doesn't even have proper non-beta Linux support yet shows me that docker is much more accepted in the developer world, thus you'll find alot more support out there including pre-built docker images and tutorials etc. I'd thus recommend sticking with docker, especially if you're planning to take the additional step towards Kubernetes and such.

2020-02-17 Thread AudioGames . net Forum — Developers room : kianoosh via Audiogames-reflector

Re: Battle Field audiogame

oh. Please. It's not a big deal. I mean maybe it was actually meant to question the powers of a specific programming language, in our case python. That's pretty much understandable on my side, as bgt gave too much unpleasant experience of fps-type games and people keep saying python is slower than C++. If I was going for a programming language to start a new and a bigger project, I would surely ask, assuming that i would have no programming experience or all of my programming experience would be limited to bgt.But to answer your question, of course it is. Audio games are much more performant due to not having graphics and python is strong enough to handle an audio game like that, assuming that you know how to code and optimize properly. A neat coding and a proper optimization could be amongst the most important things to do while developing a game. I say with all my honesty. If you want to become a worthy game developer, don't strict yourself to the mechanics that you see on a lot of the audio games you played. Most of them are having a messy or unoptimized code covering their backs, which is one of the reasons that they quickly died out. Google about game development and the theories and algorythms that you can use for handling different stuff, and keep going that way. If you ever succeeded at making a game where you can walk in a map, don't let the excitement fool you. Try to improve what you wrote, try to make an actual game out of it, and never release anything to the public unless it feels like a real game that's playable and worth playing.Sorry for the long post, BTW. LOL You should have done reading my post already though

Issue: we'd lose all of the forum discussions that ever took place. It would be like starting from absolute scratch on the forum front, probably. We're talking almost two decades worth now. Hi.at dan C yeah that's what i thought regarding the box sounds, does make sense to do that .Ok, call me stupid as fuck but, I do think I may mess up something here, what do you mean with the inventory screen? When I click on equip, I get my list of heroes and villains. When i click on one, I'm in the list of loadouts, don't know how many there are and how many items this menu has. When I click on o one of the loadouts, I get the menu you described, so head, torso and the like, and in that menu I ahave the items. Is this the inventory screen you mean?I do like the excel sheet you send me, it would be awesome if this would contain all the items that are in the game, but I think that would be a bit to much .I'm currently on the tutorial, sadly my gamepad went out of powers so I have to hop by the store today after work and get some new batteries for the thing.Greetings Moritz.Greetings Moritz.

Hi.At musicalman hmm, I'm curious. When you record with your iPod and iPad, and both have a mono microphone, how would you then go about getting a sterrio file out of it? As I see it, both devices record the same thing and if something happens on the right, I suppose you would need to do some serious panning stuff to get this in the right place on the track, at least that's what would I do in that moment.Greetings Moritz.

Re: Docker usage

So, thats not actually Docker-related. First of all, there is Docker for Windows which can run Linux containers too, so no need to work with two separate OS'es here. And everything else is up to your personal preference. Developing on Linux directly using file explorers like Total Commander or editors with built-in FTP/SFTP capabilities, or copying things over manually each time you need it, thats totally up to you, although unnecessary in my oppinion.

Hey Paul! If I may borrow a bit of creative license with the English language: That's fantabulous about the feature progress. I do think that such ability-triggered locks could pave the way for awesome puzzles, and would also allow you to lock certain content behind progression walls, too. You don't want a level 3 chicken tamer to be able to get the golden bird saddle until he's level 25? Just make sure he can't unlock the chicken coop of Fowlistrad until he has the level 25 ability "Poultry Patience".A question: Is this also applicable to doors and other lockable transition points, or is it just for containers?Kai

Super liam: I just experienced nostalgia

Hi all,Well I don't, exactly, know what came over me, perhaps I've been in a retro mood lately, but instead of unlocking the next vehicle in Dreamy Train, or try to increase my rank playing Gears 5, or having a go on the xbox version of Killer Instinct, instead, I played Super Liam from start to finish. I must say, not a bad way to spend the late morning, and still enjoyable. I ended with around 45000 points and around 10 lives. Finished both bonus levels and found the secret area on the Silver Spaceship.Liam, call this cliche but I really do think you did a good job. Yep it's simple by today's standards, and we've had stuff like the Bokurano Daiboukenn series since. But for a release in 2004? One word: golden. Seriously, I think 2004 was one of the best years for audiogames. in fact that was how I discovered the audiogames website. I came on in with a huge update had been added, and I do mean huge. All the pb-games got added, along with a bunch of other stuff I don't even remember. The only thing I regret: we did nothing for Super Liam's 15th anniversary last year. I didn't even write a retrospective. I really regret that now, missed opportunity right there.

Super liam: I just experienced nostalgia

2020-02-17 Thread AudioGames . net Forum — General Game Discussion : aaron via Audiogames-reflector

Yep it's simple by today's standards, and we've had stuff like the Bokurano Daiboukenn series, and Adventure at C, since then.

@Arkandias, I thought it was well known that pretty much the entire Lone wolf lexicon was available on The project aon website found hereIt's been in the db now for about twelve years, they even have some nice little VI adaptations, such as html versions with descriptions of images needed for puzzles in some books, and a very nicely formatted version of the combat action table. Maybe it was looking in French, since whilst I know there is a Spanish version of the website, I am not sure about French, either way, enjoy! I always go back to Lone wolf whenever I want something to cheer me up, since they're just so much classic D&D style rollocking heroic fantasy fun1

@nerdcasm sorry for the delay. At the time, I ended up being away from the forum. I must say, I have checked your email address and we do need a valid one for the purposes of password resets and such. While I understand privacy, and I even respect it, it's important to have a way of getting back into your account if a password is lost, or, in my situation, my old email address died. When this happened, I forgot to update it and thus lost access to several places.

Re: Are any SBYW servers still active?

My server is still running. Choose Chris from the server list or use christopherw.me port 19898 to connect manually. The only other server that's still active is called someone. There may be more, but they're not in the server list, so unless you know the connection details, you're out of luck. The server application sometimes crashes, but I've made an effort to keep mine running 24/7, so even if it crashes, it'll probably be down for a few hours maximum. I haven't configured it to restart itself, so I have to manually go in and turn it on again.I've got a question about the server. Is voice chat broken? It doesn't work on my server, and running a fresh copy of the server on my local computer doesn't fix things. I assume this functionality is broken for good?As far as I know, Mason is done with games in general. Apparently he stopped hosting the SBYW server because it was using too many resources, which I don't understand at all. I run it under Wine on Linux, and it's fine aside from the occasional crash.

It feels like you didn't yet get the grasp of what Docker containers are all about. They are not ment to be used as replacement for VMs, and are not ment to contain file systems which can be browsed in real time. In fact, I doubt you can achieve that with ease, because that is not what they are ment for.I'd recommend you to read about Docker containers, how they are supposed to work and be combined, about swarms / clusters, networks and, regarding your second-last question, volumes. It seems like you're expecting the wrong features from that product.

I've not really got into the hole epub thing myself, i just ued the standard html version, or the one without illustrations which often has some substitutions. Also however, look in the extra resources section of the website for copies of the Vi friendly action chart in a nicely formatted table, and use your favourite random dice roller to get a number between 0 and 9.They also have a character sheet to download, but I created my own with slots for the 12 carryable items, a section for items that go book to book, lists of Kai powers etc. Have fun!

Re: Super liam: I just experienced nostalgia

I ran superliam myself a couple of years ago, and found it great fun just for the experience. Aside from really complex games like bk3, what struck me is how well all the mechanics and design worked together. No points of being drowned in too many enemy sounds to artificially ramp up challenge, no difficult extended by clunky detection or sounds not playing together. Superliam is just a great example of something simple done well, and something which  lot of developers trying to write games now might consider learning from. My only real major problem, apart from the fact that the game still feels super easy, is that  wish things did get a little harder, especially the bosses, and even more especially x1, who was a bit of an anticlimax all in ll.

I agree that Super Liam is a bit too easy, particularly the X1 battle. I hoped Super Liam 2 would have more interesting levels and/or harder challenging bosses, but that project may never see the light of day.Having said all that, the game is solid in terms of mechanics and performance, which is awesome! I agree that developers wanting to understand how an audio game works should definitely try it, since it was the first blind accessible Side-Scrolling game that I'm aware of.

I've played this one a couple of times. Haven't finished it, but I got pretty far on my second playthrough.I can confirm that some deaths in FFP gamebooks seem very arbitrary, although when I beat Hellfire (it took awhile) it got to a point where I just learned to memorize which paths not to go on. Still, I don't like arbitrary things being arbitrary most of the time. Like if there are two doors with absolutely no indication of what's beyond them, and door #1 leads to death...I mean yes, this is possible, but if that choice is near the end of the game and I'm doing well till then, you're really going to put me off my game with a random death. In fact, you're going to make me want to stop playing the game and maybe not look back.

Re: Super liam: I just experienced nostalgia

I think that if the game had been considerably harder, things not being randomized wouldn't have mattered. But because the game is fairly easy, its lack of randomization hurts it more than it otherwise would.I've completed several no-damage runs of this game in the past, and used to be able to speedrun it. It's a fun little trip down memory lane, for the most part. My only real disappointment is, as has been stated before, the bosses. But the game does get gradually harder, and served as a great jumping-off point back in 04 when it came out.

So, I'm one of these people who, mid flow about one project will suddenly come up with an addition to make to another project. My option at the moment is to drop a note on my phone, or write a file on my computer, leaving me with 15,000 files with various notes in that are not accessible to me when I run out of battery on my laptop and now only have my phone. ARGH!So I was thinking, surely there is an application which bridges between laptop and phone through a web portal that allows you to keep notes and perhaps categorise them?If there isn't, is anyone interested in me making one? I could probably throw one together in about 15 minutes and chuck in basic encryption for added security.Thoughts?

Fun fact: I have an HP laptop, and it's super-quiet. Like, it's quiet enough that if the fan's not going, I have to put it up to my head to hear it. When the fan does go, you hear it, but it doesn't rev or growl, it just makes fan noises.Other than having a terrifically bad native keyboard, this thing has worked really well, and has insane battery life. Also, it boots into Windows in like eighteen seconds. I've heard horror stories about the HP brand, but I've just never experienced them I guess.

My lady is a complete novice, and whilst she's enjoyed crazy party, she is finding the difficulty relative to her experience rather problematic, and in some places offputting, such as those turtle races. When she's no longer suffering so much fatigue, I might actually try her with Superliam, as a good crash course on audio reactions generally, and side scrollers in particular.

Similar gameplay and humour, but with randomisation, slightly more complex enemy attack patterns, and a sort of vaguely challenging boss, plus difficulty levels. another shame the game is now unobtainable.

Hay Tragectory, this is amazing news!I haven't watched anything like this before, but I'll tune in if I can.Jade discussed quality control in audio games, and Aaron does need to fix one major bug before this event happens regarding the UP Boost items not working as expected.I just did another run of the game to fight the last resort protocol boss again; that's where I found this bug.I still have the save but can't use it's true potential until this bug gets resolved.Speaking of said boss fight, if you get enough donations to do the battle, is it going to end as soon as lrp is defeated, or is the Chaos Ohgma battel going to be featured as well?I feel that needs to be featured, as you don't really regain full control of the game until you're back in the real world, and you can't die in that fight; I know because I tested it.Their's a really cool sound design moment after that fight, and I believe that fight is the only time in Manamon 2 where you actually have a partner that can really help out, as Oghma in the art museum doesn't really help all that much; at least, he didn't in my playthroughs...Later!
