Re: survive teh wild questions

It's one definitley worth checking out. The sound environment is really well done, and it's a great place to explore, and the tasks such as crafting and hunting are really enjoyable, though the crafting has a repetition aspect that gets a bit boring after a while. It has qualities that make it very addictive, and some aspects I personally think make it tedious as hell. I think it's a game that is absolutely worth paying for, and I would happily have paid 30 dollars a year to play, but the way the payment system is set, makes the game less satisfying than it would be if you removed it. For instance, getting from the main map where you start, to the fishing village, which is somewhere you'll want to visit often, either involves teleporting, which costs money, and is a bit unsatisfying, or travelling normally, which becomes really tedious because it involves bashing the spacebar over and over, and you have to stop all the time to get your breath back. And you can fall asleep and have to sit there twiddling your thumbs waiting for your character to wake up before you can start bashing the space bar again. It was this aspect that eventually got to me and I gave up on it. You also can die pretty easily and lose all your stuff unless of course you buy death free cards which means you get to keep your things after dying. Nice. Personally I'd just rather have a single annual fixed payment, and remove all the tedious crap that annoys you into making regular trips to the store.

Tank commander and the blind swordsman are two other games I can return to time and again knowing I'll have fun just quickly completing them, so they have that kind of easy revisitability. I just don't know what it is about certain games that I just never seem to get fully bored of them.

The audio game you've played more than any other?

2018-03-31 Thread AudioGames . net ForumGeneral Game Discussion : flackers via Audiogames-reflector

The audio game you've played more than any other?

What's the audio game you think you've played more than any other? Or the one you keep returning to, time and time again? I ask this because mine is one you probably wouldn't expect. It's Pontes Back Gammon. I've been playing it for years, and it's still my go-to game when I want to just waste half an hour or so of my life. Even though the computer is easy to beat, I'm now only interested in winning games where the computer doesn't remove a single counter, so that makes it more challenging. I see how many times I can beat the computer that way. And there's a timer, so I also like seeing how fast I can beat the computer this way.The thing I love about back gammon, the game itself, is that it's endlessly variable. Even though I myself always adopt the same approach whereby I try to block my opponent rather than just trying to get my counters round the board as quickly as possible, the game never really becomes predictable. This is why I still regularly play it after all these years. I loved it as a kid, and it was great to find a really playable audio version a few years ago. The last thing I'd say about it, is that unlike something like chess, it's pretty easy to keep track of the board's layout in your head without having to keep arrowing around to check where everything is. So even though BK3 was way more stimulating and addictive, and is undoubtedly my favourite audio game, Pontes BG is actually the one I've played the most over the longest period. So what's yours.

Sure, you can get water anywhere clean water shows up on your objects list. For instance, go to 5.1, and go to 200 where the clean water is. Press enter, and you'll get a dialog, just press enter again to get the water. Tip, if you need a lot of water, after pressing enter, press the a key to skip the dialog. This will speed things up a lot.

Sorry, my mistake. I just check, 11.2 doesn't have platforms, it's 11.3 where they come in. ON 11.2, it's just the occasional bomb. Don't think there's anything you can do about those other than try to avoid them. As regards them hitting Carla, I suppose you just have to stay close enough to inject her with the remote medical thingie when her health gets low.I don't think there's a list of secrets anywhere I know of. You just have to search the forum and hope you get the answer, and if not, ask. Pretty much every question you'll ask will have been asked before, but finding them isn't always that easy to be honest. There have been a couple of thorough walkthroughs by Liam Erven on youtube, and someone call Carrie I think. They'll have lots of useful tips in them, but they may be a little out-of-date as regards some weapons and techniques.

Re: bk3 question

The bombs are coming from platforms. You trigger the bombing by walking underneath them. Turn on your sonar if you have it, and you can detect the platforms. You can either hook up and go over the top, or just speed past them. The thing is not to hang around underneath them, and try not to trigger them while Carla is passing under. She doesn't set them off the way you do.

Orko may have over reacted a bit, and he does need to tone down his aggression, but as a jaws user myself, I know how he feels. There is a noticeable anti-jaws vibe on this forum that was surprising and a bit baffling to me when I first came here. Post 2 was literally an uninformed comment. Jaws does work with  AHC. And although I haven't played loads of games, for the ones I have, jaws has worked more often than not. So it not working with most games isn't true in my experience. Loads of people are defending post 6 which essentially says jaws not working with games is a fact while ignoring post 5 which is from the developer himself saying it does. That's as biased and blinkered as it gets. I know my saying this will alienate me with a significant proportion of this forum, which has been a rich source of info and helpful people, but fuck it. Re: Will you be one of 18 heros? Answer the call!

My interpretation of this contest was that Nocturnus and his wife wanted to give away five copies to people who had no way of getting the game and were feeling left out through no fault of their own. So rather than do the impossible of trying to decide who's worthiest, they came up with a kind of lottery, and asked that people respect their good intentions and only those who genuinely can't get the game enter. I thought it was as good a solution as any. Complaining about it being a lottery rather than a sing-for-your-dinner to prove your worthiness kind of thing, is missing the point a bit. Hopefully this is the start of people hosting giveaway contests that are fun to take part in whether you're needy or not, worthy or not. That would only enrich the forum, and there's nothing stopping anyone from doing that. But remember this was never meant to be an obstacle course, just a charitable act, and charity is ultimately about helping those in need just because it seems like the right thing to do. If you can feed the hungry without  the need to run a marathon dressed as a banana, you do it. The fun events are a means to an end, they're not the goal.

Re: audio life

As has been said, Swamp and Stw prove that interesting 3D open world audio environments are possible. The key thing for me to make it an enjoyable world to explore is defintley the quality  of the audio. This is true of all audio games as far as I can see. If it's too obvious you're actions are just triggering a repetitive or poor sound sample, then that is a rreal mood killer. So the audio would have to be top notch and varied if you want a believable virtual realm. I imagine that would cost a bit.  But it occurs to me that the key point of a thing like this is that the programmers would have to create something that would allow ordinary non-programmers to build interesting/complex  things, more interesting than the things ordinary users can craft in STW. So it seems that a couple of the main sticking points to a project like this would be the cost and the motivation of the people who are going to have to do the real hard work. From the bits of simple scripting I've done, the one thing I've found you need more than anything else is a boundless drive to see the projecgt through. What's going to be the fuel for that drive? OCD helps, lol, but it's not enough.

Re: Redspot and STW, between the innocence and injustince

I personally have a big problem with the way STW makes money, and in a wider sense the way games these days raise money that way, especially the ones aimed at young children. Children have little patience, so telling them you can have something for free if you grind at the game for a month or so, or you can have it right now if you pay 3.99 or whatever is such an insidiously greedy way of getting people to unwittingly pay loads more than they realise for a game. I'm happy to pay for a game as good as STW, and would have donated the dollar equivalent of £25 or so anyway, or as it's an online multiplayer game, would happily pay an annual subscription of up to 40 quid. I have capped my spending on the STW store at £40 per year. When I hit that amount, no more DFCs or teleporters, which will undoubtedly mean no more STW; dying and having to craft everything from the beginning is not an option. I did it about five times before I gave in and bought my first DFC. I couldn't have carried on playing if I had to start from scratch every time I died, it would just be way too time-consuming and repetitive. The thing is, the pacing/playability of STW could be vastly improved if it weren't for the fact it'd clash with the revenue stream. Things like having to constantly stop to check with the camera when at a location where you could fall to your death: it could be a lot quicker to move around if like in BK, there's an echo that plays so you know when you're coming to a drop. It could be quicker to get from map to map by not having your energy run out so fast or have to stop to use something to cool off or change clothes, or sleep. And there could be a warning when your thirst gets up to dangerous levels, which can happen surprisingly quickly while you're distracted by chat or whatever. But here's the rub, those kinds of playability improvements would mean fewer purchases of DFCs, teleporters, and energy drinks etc, so it's not going to happen. I'll just stop playing when I have spent as much as I'm going to.

Re: Survive the Wild Spoilers and Walkthroughs!

Just adding my 2 cents about walkthroughs. Firstly, if you solve a quest with no help, another solving it via a step-by-step guide doesn't undermine your achievement at all. Being guided right to an item is not at all rewarding, unless the game is really enjoyable to play while you're doing it, so that the end result isn't as important as the journey. Being given a decent hint then going there yourself and finding stuff can be pretty satisfying. Doing it completely alone with no hints is the most satisfying of all. But the trouble with the latter in STW is that it's such a massive chore to search the place systematically, and add to that the fact that the thing you're seeking might not even be present at the time you pass by its location. The constant need to stop and recharge makes it such a drag to explore maps thoroughly. Challenges are great, but chores are chores. Cleaning your house with a toothbrush is a challenge but not one most of us would enjoy
taking on. Games are supposed to be fun, and I don't think STW quite has the balance right.

My feeling is audio games aren't and sadly never will be, commercial enough to ever truly exist on a par with mainstream video games. There are a few audios I've played that are as engrossing as any video game, but these seem to have been made by talented young people who may well go on to greener pastures later. One or two talented people doing audios for the joy of programming is never going to be enough to fully realise the potential of audio games. They could be mind-blowingly awesome with binaural sounds and a full cast of good actors, a great script etc, but for that they need to be super commercial. It's not beyond the realms of possibility, but they'd have to crack the mainstream, non-visually impaired market, and that would be a tough nut.

I haven't been on this forum long, and don't play many audio games, and know nothing about the community's cliques and rivalries, but I've read a few times about how blind people are spoiled bickering whiny little pricks. It's nothing to do with being blind, internet message boards everywhere are filled with people bitterly arguing and insulting each other over trivialities. I don't know why blindness is even brought into it. It's so reductive, like all blind people are one and the same.

Re: the Eurofly Translations initiative

I tidied up the English in the user guide a few months ago and sent it to them. I got a reply about a month or so later, but got the impression they weren't that interested. I was also rewriting the mission statements one at a time as I played them, but lost interest in the game after whatever task gives you the captain with the right to teach badge. I think any good English translation project will have to exist independently of the developers because as others have said they don't seem that interested in Eurofly anymore.

Prison break games?

2017-05-31 Thread AudioGames . net ForumGeneral Game Discussion : flackers via Audiogames-reflector

Prison break games?

Does anyone know of any good accessible prison break style games, or would any game developer be interested in creating one? When I was a kid I used to love playing the board game Escape from Colditz.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Escape_from_ColditzI'd love to play an accessible PC version of that, or something similar.By the way, is there a dedicated thread anywhere for new game ideas?
