Re: I am affronted by the presence of god

I respect people enough to let them have their own beliefs about spirituality and religion. (to a certain degree at least) Usually I'm not so quick to be so opinionated about a subject like this, but the short of it  is that I agree 100% with what you've outlined. I've asked a number of people in my life why a god would allow situations (like the one you had the courage to share) to happen to those who especially don't deserve it. I have yet to get an answer that sits well with me or convinces me that the god they speak of is loving. I've gotten to a place much like the one described by @3 where I'm not really angry anymore about this, but I can certainly see how having someone in your life going through so much can make it almost impossible not to be frustrated. For what it's worth, a lot of people (myself included) have likely found themselves at a low point asking the same questions with as much passion.

Re: Tunmi's New Website

I don't see definitions of genres being up for debate. Trying to do so is just pointless really. Using terms as you wish with your own modified meaning isn't going to do anything except bring up the same conversation over and over again. People will ask why you are referring to this game that clearly isn't an FPS as n FPS."As long as you are in control and you have the control over the game and all the action, I personally think from my view it defines it as an FPS."If this were the case, what game wouldn't be an FPS? I guess the points of view don't directly translate over into audio making it harder to grasp, but bottom line, a quick way to make people upset is telling them that a game is one thing when it really isn't. There's not really that much room for redefinition.

Re: Anyone tried the new Voiceover UI recognition feature?

I certainly don't know what this topic turned into, but @41 that's pretty much where I've seen the recognition feature shine the most. For smaller accessibility hangups like unlabeled, or even unrecognized, buttons it seems to really help. I haven't really pllayed around with completely inaccessible apps yet, but would love to hear from anyone who has. The image descriptions are pretty nice though. They've gotten quite a bit more detailed than they used to be, and I've actually found them to be slightly useful. As far as companies and collecting data goes, there's no way of avoiding it today. Whoever you decide to run to will be collecting data period. (regardless of what you opt out of) And sadly it looks like they'll be valuing more from it exponentially than you'll be valuing from the service they provide in return. Data is the new currency.

@8Agreed with other posters. Apple is the last company that needs defending against the claims of milking money from their customers, but this is very loosely related. The requirement of newer hardware in this case is literally only because the older chips don't support the on device machine learning that they take advantage of. At least bash with relevancy.

I've tried it on a number of apps now, and the results weren't quite as exciting as I thought. Of course this kind of functionality is going to be a work in progress for a long time, but it only seems to work on apps with interfaces that are already very simplistic to begin with. Not only that, but it also seems to make apps that are already accessible more difficult to use as a result of relocating various elements. If anyone has examples where this feature works very well, I'd be glad to hear about them because I'm not as impressed as I would like to be.

I don't have any experience with it, but from what I know it isn't really worth it. The idea of the deep web has gained a really strange reputation, and I suppose a lot of creepypastas have something to do with it. The bottom line is that a lot of people try out something like tor only to be disappointed by the lack of interesting things. Anything you'd stumble across would either be a bitcoin related scam or something set up by law enforcement to catch people looking to make shady purchases. The horror stories aren't entirely fiction, but most of them are. Tor is mainly used in all seriousness by those living in countries with intense internet censorship.

SO, against my better judgement, I'm going to ask this and deal with the consequences. It's not even intended to be overly political. Donald Trump recently released this video from outside of the oval office where he commented on his experience with Covid and his plans for the future. It's not a very llong video. As soon as I started watching it, I instantly felt like something was off. I'm not even refering to the content of his speech. I've heard him speak in many different places with many different qualities of audio, but my initial reaction was that his voice in this video sounds quite different. I understand that he's been sick, but his voice/breathing in this video does not match those of someone who has fully recovered from anything. (which is the central point of this video) I'm asking if anyone else can hear it? It was so strange to me that I didn't even recognize him initially.P.S. This was the video he posted before he flew to Walter Reed for comparison.

My concern about the situation is that once Trump recovers, (because the chances are high given his status and resources) he will go right back to his talking points about covid being no worse than the flu and assuring his supporters that they have nothing to worry about. (When they don't have the same kind of quality/instant medical care that he does as the potus) The markets are a bit scary as well, but I think that when it comes to situations like this, a lot of panic and speculation tends to send them into a spiral without much effort. I think things will stable out once the initial panic is gone, but it doesn't mean that the damage will be undone just as quickly. Speaking of the speculation, there's already a lot of talk going around suggesting that the diagnosis might not even be real. People are looking at the timing (closer to the election than ever with still two debates to go) and are wondering whether or not the president wants to avoid future debates. I've also seen suggestions that the diagnosis will be used by Trump to concede and allow him to blame his loss on something. Are any of them likely? Probably not. Would anyone be surprised? Probably not. It's October 1st, and we have yet to catch a break.

Re: Discussion of the 2020 American Federal Election

I didn't expect the debate to go well, but I certainly didn't expect it to go as poorly as it did. Firstly, I don't think anyone was expecting Joe Biden to perform very well, and he didn't. If Biden was debating with any other candidate in any other election, people wouldn't be cutting him so much slack. He did surprise me a few times with some responses he gave to the questions asked, but overall it was as much as I expected from him. Trump's performance overshadowed Biden's, depending on who you ask, in an excellent or horrible way. I feel that we're in a situation where the majority of people who are planning on voting already knew who they were voting for before the debate took place. In other words, there aren't that many undecided voters to push in any particular direction. I'd even go as far as to say that Biden's lack of energy/push back against Trump's attacks are enough to push undecided voters to vote for him for the confidence. False statements and incorrect information don't really matter anymore no matter how many of them were checked. Trump has two words that make all of the fact checking irrelevant. Fake news. If it weren't for his activation of the Proud Boys (who literally took to social media and changed their official profile picture to a logo of the quote "Stand back, and stand by") and his open encouraging of voter intimidation, I would have called the debate a win for Trump. He had the opportunity to put a lot of his rally material to use. If you have watched his rallies at all, a lot of the talking points he used in the debate were from his routine. (especially relating to covid19 and protesting) His voter base is praising him for his performance on social media and sharing their favorite lines from the debate. While the same can be said for Biden, the results are nowhere near as impactful and there are nowhere near as many memable lines on his side of things. RIP to the Americans who just wanted to know about policies and what would be brought to the table upon election.P.S. Also, let's talk about Chris Wallace as the moderator. I felt that he could have done a  much better job moderating, but that's overshadowed by him attempting to do the impossible task of teaching Trump to wait his turn. The moderator should definitely have the ability to mute microphones. Once that happens, then I can be critical of his actual moderation.

To my understanding, there's nothing wrong with using a queen as long as you have a purpose and as long as it's well defended. There are situations where moving the queen early on in the game could be adventageous.

For those who learn well from videos, there's a very nice Youtube playlist that goes over some fundamentals of chess that can really help beginner players (such as myself) with improving. He talks about things such as undefended pieces and coordination that might not be so intuitive just by understanding how the pieces move. I've already learned a lot from these videos and other channels like it.@jaydeIf you were offering to play a few games with anyone interested, I certainly wouldn't mind taking you up on that offer sometime.

I'd definitely be interested in this. I'm not sure exactly what your vision is as far as the interface, but something similar to the Twitter clients would be cool where you could actually use the program through keyboard shortcuts. (as opposed to being focused on the window while using it) Depending on what you use to write it, I'd be glad to lend a hand if you'd like.

This might help. It's an accent I've never practiced before, but videos like this should get you a long way. Again as already stated, people can be very sensitive when it comes to their accents, so a little bit of caution is recommended. Listening to programs or watching movies with speakers in the accent can really go a long way as well. Just approach it as if you were learning a language. You'll get better by using it.

How would you describe what you see (if anything) when your eyes are closed? I've been curious lately, and I've heard a variety of answers from different people. Shadows? Light? Anything? Is there a difference at all visually between when your eyes are closed versus open? I'd start, but I've been trying to find words that make sense for an embarrassingly long time.

Unfortunately, it appears that windows support for the jailbreak isn't quite moving forward anytime soon. Apparently the drivers on windows won't allow for the process to be completed successfully. Some people have reported success using hackentoshes in order to use checkra1n,but trying to use the tool in a virtual machine running Mac OS will result in failure. I've wanted to dual boot versions of IOS for a long time. There have been tools in the past, but they were very limited as far as what versions could be booted, and i never got the process to work without sighted assistance. Potentially running Android was teased a while back, but I think we have quite a ways to go before we see that possibility on an end user level.

I have to agree with the majority of what's been stated in this topic. I tend to give people the benefit of the doubt more times than not, so I really am sympathetic if the people making these announcements are struggling with their mental health since I can relate. That being said though, I'm not entirely sure what good comes out of these kinds of posts. (unless, for example, you are an actual developer who would be leaving players in the dark about current releases) It seems better, in my opinion, to just leave. Maybe time away from the forum could help to improve mental health along with seeing things from a new perspective. That way if you'd like to come back at some point in the future, you don't have to make an apology post in an effort to explain your return. (and we've definitely had plenty of those) The way I see it, if you'd like to step away from the forum it's no one else's business but your own.

Re: Our most amusing idiotic stories where we screw something up horribl

@JaydeI had the exact same experience with making ramen years ago. I'm glad to know that I wasn't the only one who has made this mistake before. It wasn't as if I was new to using a microwave. It was something I had done plenty of times before, and I'm usually not so absent minded when it comes to being in the kitchen. (especially when it's not my own) I was, however, visiting a couple of friends, and I was somewhat distracted with our conversation. As a result, I forgot to add water before turning on the microwave. Once the sighted person among us realized that there was something wrong a couple minutes later and opened the microwave, the black cloud of death that quickly filled the room was more than enough for me to instantly vow that I would never make that mistake again. I felt bad because the smell lingered around for at least a week, but at least I didn't live there. I have quite a few other stories as well, but nothing too out of the ordinary. (embarrassing social interactions, personal injury, destruction, the whole package)A story that comes to mind is my first day of college. The ride that was originally scheduled to take me on my first day ended up not being available, so one of my cousins ended up driving me to the campus instead. I had just seen her a few days prier, and we talked about the classes that I would be taking along with other common college talking points. I am 4000% certain that I told her which college I would be attending more than once. Despite this, she ended up taking me to a college that was a few minutes away from the one I was actually attending. OF course, we didn't know that at the time. Lucky for me, she insisted on making sure that I got to my first class before leaving, so it wasn't a situation where she just dropped me off and left. The insane part about it is that the campus we went to had a building with the same name as the one containing my first class. Looking back, it might not be so far-fetched though. (especially if the buildings are named after prominent figures from the local area/community) The first clue that something was wrong was that the room number that I needed took us to a supply closet. After finding a professor nearby, the second clue that something was wrong was that they didn't recognize the name of the class that I was looking for or the professor who taught it. Eventually, I just asked my cousin what school she took me to, and I was able to point out the error to her dismay. We rushed to the correct campus, and I was slightly late for my first class. There is very little that I hate in the entire world more than being late for things. It wasn't one of my best days.

On many various systems that I've used it on, it's never given me trouble as far as getting everything up and running. When it comes to its virtual keyboard, I believe it's perfectly fine. I just don't understand. There's so much more satisfaction that comes with developing your own original game. What is there to gain from rereleasing someone else's project regardless of whether it was properly obtained or not? Where's the appeal in playing the same game over and over with a few additional features and different sounds? If anything, it should be even easier to develop your own game since you could use the source code as a learning guide to understand how a game is put together. That's where I learned how to code years ago. (examining the source code of various projects, and using what I learned to make my own) I am genuinely interested about the reasoning behind taking someone else's code, modifying it to varying degrees, and calling it yours. I'd seriously like to hear from someone who has done this. I'm not being sarcastic. Is it money?

Re: Stop punishing developers trying to make their games accessible

This is extremely frustrating. It's also hard for me to wrap my head around. when we have such a desire for more developers to try their hand at making their games accessible, why do we treat them this way? I'm very interested to hear from someone who actually believes that behaving this way towards developers is a solution. I just want to understand the thought process. I could understand where someone would be coming from if this developer refused to consider making their game accessible. I wouldn't agree with leaving them bad reviews and sending awful emails even in that situation, but I could understand it. This developer though seems to have a strong desire to make their game as playable as possible, so why treat them so horribly? This seems like the type of post that would be made from within this community, so the fact that it's coming from an actual developer makes it even worse. How many developers do you think would be enthusiastic about building accessibility into their games after seeing something like this?P.S. I don't think I've ever actually left a review for an app in my entire life. Maybe I should leave good ones for the apps I enjoy. If I don't care for an app, I just don't use it.

I agree with 14. If the discussion of the vault was a problem, then why was the topic allowed to continue for as long as it did? What was the point of just up and closing it all of a sudden? I understand that it's a definite gray area when it comes to copyrighted content being shared/discussed on this site, but if it was an issue, then the topic should have been closed a long time ago. Were there any moderation warnings at all? I haven't looked through all of the posts, so I can't be sure. Why couldn't there have just been a warning to find a new place to discuss the vault in the original topic? Aaron is suggesting that the link to this potential new community be posted in this topic for a certain amount of time before being deleted. Why couldn't this have happened in the original topic? After a certain amount of time, the link could have been removed and the topic deleted for good. Instead, the original topic (even though closed) still remains with all of it's posts, and a second topic has been made based around the same subject matter. In my opinion, the moderation was certainly extreme.

Maybe it's because I'm at that point in my life where these are the types of things that are on my mind. I'm surrounded by people with sight and likely will be for a long time, so I don't really know many blind people. Re: Do you feel excluded?

Very well said. I absolutely agree with all of this. You put it very well when you explained that it's not so much the blindness that you have a problem with, it's the impact it has on communicating with others. I share the same thoughts about feeling somewhat excluded when it comes to the image based social networks and how they are the primary form of communicating for most people my age. When meeting/getting to know each other, a lot of sighted people my age share their Snapchat and Instagram names in the same way people used to share phone numbers. Rather than texting, for the most part they send each other gifs and images. My sisters use social media a lot, and they often talk about their stories. Feeling excluded from people online is one thing, but it adds a lot more depth when you feel like a third wheel with family. It's not that I can't relate to them at all, but it just feels like an experience that I can't be a part of. When it comes to the other topic you posted about social situations, my view sits more on the pessimistic side. A lot of the foundation for that consists of what you outline here. Sighted friends I've had in the past were able to relate to my audio-based interests to a degree, but that's all. It's just disappointing to see a friend having a more enjoyable experience with someone else over an interest that I can't be a part of. I find enjoyment out of socialization however I can, but all of these things sit in the back of my mind.

Re: Recomendations for some cool ios 12 jailbreak tweaks

For anyone interested, here is the list of tweaks I am currently using on IOS 12.1. I added descriptions just because:*Activator: speaks for itself, but pretty much gives you the flexibility to create gestures and shortcuts to perform almost any action that can be performed on an IOS device*AnimationsBeFast: an essential tweak for me that allows you to control the speeds for certain animations; It helps a lot with the lag for opening folders and launching applications*CallDismiss: an incredible tweak that allows you to dismiss an incoming call without declining it by just pressing the home button*CustomVolumeStep: Since I spend a lot of time listening to music on my device, I hate how large the gaps are as you increase and decrease the volume. This tweak lets you take care of that.*DismissProgress: a simple tweak that allows you to close the Cydia Installation screen after installing a tweak instead of instantly respringing (which you should do, but I like to install multiple tweaks at a time)*Flex3: This tweak allows you to create your own application specific tweaks on your device and install tweaks uploaded by others. Funnily enough, the first time I ever used it a long time ago, someone created a tweak for AudioDefense.*HapticKeyboard: an essential tweak that provides haptic feedback for the keyboard*ICleanerPro: it's the CCleaner that I wish IOS had natively*LendMyPhone2: This tweak allows you to create profiles for your IOS device that are activated through different passcodes. You can create a guest mode on your device, for example, that hides certain apps if someone needs to use your device. (like banking or email apps) *LetMeKnow: This simple tweak just sends a small vibration your way whenever a call is connected or disconnected. It helps you know when someone answers your call and when they disconnect.*Mega UHB: a massive host blocker that blocks thousands of untrusted hosts from your device*SystemInfo: a tweak that adds an incredible amount of information about your phone to the About section in Settings.*TetherMe: essential tweak that allows you to share your device's internet connection with other devices as a hotspot. These are the biggest ones I'm using at the moment. The majority of tweaks released these days are not bennaficial for VO users at all. (changing icons and adding animations) I wish there were more tweaks that focused more on customizing IOS devices beyond turning icons into memes, but it is what it is I guess.

It's been a while since I've done it myself, but I was able to get a lot of the information I needed by looking it up online. I know that you'll have to download software to help obtain root access on your tablet before you can install the Play Store. The last time I did this, you could only install the Play Store on certain versions of the tablet's operating system, so if you are completely updated, it might not work. Try looking through the first article I found:https://www.howtogeek.com/232726/how-to … re-tablet/

Re: JAWS and its license history

Lots of agreement with @daigonite and @Ethin. Open source is the future, and the success of various projects built on a community of contributors is most of the evidence that you need. A lot of the advantages of decentralization have already been brought up. What happens to JAWS post Freedom Scientific? It's already been explained that in the case that development for NVDA stops, it wouldn't be hard at all for it to be reworked, molded, and improved by interested developers who want to keep the project moving forward with little fuss. There's also the matter of security. Open source projects can be easily reviewed. I'm a lot more willing to put my faith into a project with many hands directly at work from all over the world. The dialog between contributors and end users is a lot more powerful because they can often be one and the same.

Do you have any examples? Even if the screen reader I use now wasn't able to do everything I needed, FS's practices would make me more than hesitant to consider their products. For this, I use wget just like roelvdwal suggested. Since I'm using a Windows machine, I use the windows binary. It's pretty amazing what can be done with it, and there are enough options to cover most situations. It is a command line tool, and sadly the most popular GUI versions aren't accessible from what I've tried. I've also used Win HT Track in the past like Mason suggested, and if you aren't very comfortable with the command line, maybe this program might be easier for you.

Yes. Not only will it raise awareness about situations like this (since it seems that even people here have gone through something similar) but like I said before, with attention drawn to everything, the school will be a lot more willing to go out of their way to do whatever they can. If people feel comfortable, even leaving comments with what they've experienced could be a big help. On the other hand though, if his name does get thrown into the mix somehow... well... the internet's not a nice place.

I know that I wouldn't be able to consider other options if I were in your situation. It would be really hard to talk me out of taking matters into my own hands and getting back at whoever is causing a problem. I flew off the handle when I heard about problems my younger sister was having at her own school, and I was plotting out what I was going to do, refusing to listen to anyone, but I just took a moment. I stepped away from everything, and that time helped me relax. My sister even came up with a genius way to fix the situation herself. You have every right to be furious. I think the meeting is a great way to start things off. Unexpected is ideal, so he doesn't have time to come up with something to protect himself. Any information to confirm what he's done would be very important so it doesn't have to rely on just accusation because the school is likely to take the most passive route.

@defenderThat was the point i was going for. Being in the situation he's in doesn't excuse anything he's done, but children (or anyone really) can handle life with a dysfunctional family in some pretty negative ways. One child can take it out on others, while another child can handle it fine or just in a different way. Combine that with being at that age and the crowd he might be around at school, and you have a recipe for something bad. He definitely knows that what he's done (or is still doing) isn't right. Sending heat back his way would likely just screw him up even more.

Re: Help with hazing issue (may get controversial)

I just wanted to ask if the boy who is threatening and targeting her is also in middle school like she is? I don't want this to come off in a way that might be offensive, but it seems that, given the information you've written about the problems with his family, that his behavior is a result of those problems. I don't know how dysfunctional his family is, but what he probably needs the most is time with a professional. I'd have to agree with what others have already touched on. Taking a solution like the third one has a lot of potential for backfiring. Not only might it make the situation worse, but it could get other people involved, like members of his own family, who'd want to take matters like the ones you are suggesting. Not only that, but if you do take the situation to authorities, doing anything from the third solution could put you in a less than favorable position with them. I agree that you shouldn't have too much faith in the school handling things completely on their own, so both solutions 1 and 2 sound great. Keep a record of any response the school gives you in case they don't deliver, and if necessary, take it to the police. Making posts online to try and raise awareness about the situation would be a nice motivator for the school due to the threat of media attention. The best case would be to get the child some form of counseling so no other students have to worry about this.Edit: I wasn't sure about something I wrote, so I was looking into information about it, and it appears that it's perfectly fine to take the situation to the police if the school is not willing to come up with a solution that handles the situation. (which I'm not expecting) Harassment and assault are still offenses in a school setting, so legally it will be taken seriously.

@ironcrossI agree 100% about emoji. Regardless of how we might feel about them, they do exist, and they are definitely wide spread. We certainly don't have to use them if we don't want, but we still stumble across them. I don't mind them either, but I don't use them much myself. One of the biggest benefits like you said was that they can help avoid miscommunication through text. If I feel like a message that I send can be taken the wrong way, I’ll just tag one on to the end of it to make sure the tone is right. I think communication is on track to becoming a lot more visual and less reliant on words. As far as sighted people describing their pictures and memes goes, I don't think they should be forced to do it manually, but I really do wish there was a way that we had some kind of access. I don't spend a lot of time in places where memes are common, but I run into the occasional image that I'd like to know the contents of. Like emoji, the idea of memes is wide spread and is so mainstream that companies even use them in their own embarrassing efforts to appeal to that audience. I really think it would be possible to solve this with AI. Of course, I lack the knowledge and resources to experiment with this, but I have an idea or two.

Re: uploading audio files on youtube

I wish there was a better way to do this. I'd love to start a channel of my own, but I just want to upload content. (not vlogs or anything requiring video) It would be nice if I could just have visualizations to go along with the audio. (like the wave visualizations you used to be able to enable in Windows Media Player ages ago) Not anything great, but just something to look at.

@musicalmanPlease do. I never have enough podcasts. I think it would be interesting to see how you navigate the program. I've tried a few a long time ago, but it didn't last long. I wasn't able to find one with enough usability.

Re: The Wonders of Netflix

@flackersI agree. I don't think it matters that much what sighted people think about audio description of any kind. (recorded or synthetic) Not that they don't have a right to use it, but it's not really a service that was designed with them in mind. most experiences you would probably find with the sighted and audio description would be how to turn it off if they activate it by accident somehow. (which is an impressive thing to do) That's mostly what I find when I look up information about accessibility in mainstream products. When my sister turns it on by accident, it's fascinating for a moment, but she thinks it's kind of creepy. (her words, not mine) As far as the scene in Halloween goes, with scenes like that, it would be great to know about all of the details that make it so incredible, but I guess I can handle a music score with no dialog and general descriptions of what's happening. (until someone comes up with a way to portray that in a short amount of time) I wasn't really thinking of it as a replacement either. Just an alternative that would be easier to create. Thanks for the tip about YouDescribe. It sounds familiar, but I'll check it out again.

Re: The Wonders of Netflix

@pitermachBraille support wasn't something that I considered, but your right. On top of that, being able to customize the voice used would be a nice addition as well. Add in not having to mess around with rights/contracts and it seems like a nice concept to consider at least. Descriptions for new films could be made available a lot sooner and without so much hassle. As far as the amount of emotion goes, that's never really where my attention is. I just want to know what’s going on that isn’t portrayed through dialog. Of course, it comes down to personal preference, but I’ll take synthetic speech for a wider variety of films over more natural speech for a limited selection. I wonder how insane it would be to compile several texts of a film's plot from different sources and use natural language processing to develop an audio description script? That wouldn't cover the timing though, plus the plot summaries would have to be very detailed and accurate. Speech recognition to detect specific lines for timing? Might be more trouble than it's worth. You can find movie scripts online at least, but it might be easier to just have someone do it themselves. Combine the two ideas somehow?

The Wonders of Netflics

2019-02-10 Thread AudioGames . net ForumOff-topic room : BoundTo via Audiogames-reflector

The Wonders of Netflics

So, I was watching a show on Netflix a week or so ago on IOS, and something happened that I'd never seen before. Some of the show's dialog was in Spanish, and I was shocked to find that Voiceover was speaking the subtitles along with the dialog. For those who use Netflix a lot, this might not be anything new, but bear with me. It blew my mind, and I got a lot more excited about it than was probably necessary. After that passed though, I started wondering if a system like this could be used for audio description versus someone having to record a script alongside the movie or show. As far as I know, this isn't happening already. Since Voiceover on IOS duck’s audio by default, the speech wouldn't be difficult to hear over the show/movie's audio. On top of that, it would be faster and easier to create a system where text is queued to be spoken at certain time stamps throughout the film. Descriptions are usually already timed to take place between character dialog, so there shouldn't be much of a problem with the descriptions overlapping with that. (but I guess that would depend on how fast or slow someone has Voiceover’s speech rate set to) I'm not sure how the subtitles thing is working though. Is the text actually showing up on the screen and Voiceover is just reading it as a result (which as far as I could tell wasn't the case), or is there something more going on behind the scenes? Either way, why not use that same system to deliver audio descriptions? For those who prefer the human recorded descriptions, why not offer both as an option? (with the advantage of VO spoken descriptions being available for shows and movies that don't have prerecorded descriptions) Any thoughts?

@6There's the political post I was looking for. @5I don't think anyone said that there was anything wrong with being a conservative. It was just pointed out that the article you linked to was very... one-sided... and full of bias. Not to discredit your experiences with conservatives, but I"m not really sure how you can speak for most of them. (Especially when it comes to opinions about disabilities) You might have had great relationships with some, but you can't generalize an entire group of people based on your own personal experiences. (And this goes for both extremes of the political pole obviously)

Re: Making a Vintage Sounding TTS Voice

@jackFor something that started out being done by hand, the synth sounds incredible so far to me. Coming from information gathered from the web and a few estimates, it's definitely farther than I'd be able to take it. The processing power needed for wavenet is insane. I don't remember exactly what it was, but the amount of time required to generate one second of audio, even with the top-notch resources that a company like Google has, took an extremely long time. (at least at the time the article I read a while back was posted)

Re: Making a Vintage Sounding TTS Voice

Questions:1. Wouldn't the formant/bandwidth values for voiced sounds slightly vary depending on the voice itself? (my point being, if a different person recorded the stories, would your formant values be different?)2. So, since you ended up needing two sets of filters for voicing, are you running the same signal through both sets of filters in parallel?3. How long does it take to generate an audio file for a short sentence like the ones you've been using for testing?

This is a pretty interesting project. Hats off for the hours spent scratching your head at the online articles that never seem to give you the piece of information to make everything click inside your head. I've definitely been there. I'd love to see how far you are able to get with this. I gave the entries a quick read, but I'll probably have more questions once I'm able to sit down and wrap my head around everything.

@simbaGreat post! I've had experiences like that as well. It seems that when people who are very committed to their faith approach you and want to bless you in some way, they seem to be doing it more to make themselves feel better than to actually help you. My reasoning being that if they were interested in actually helping you, then they would respect your wish to not get involved. They don't seem to be very interested in your side of the situation.P.S. I wish we had more discussions like this on the forum.
