If you do a search on your paper library for audio games, you will get lots of bits and pieces about what you are looking for. There are a ton of news articles posted on the Games_access email list.If you also search google news for blind gamers or audio games, you will find some stuff. It will be a paper looking at how the mainstream community looks at the audio game community. My hypothesis is that the view is that it is a nich market that consists of mostly MUDs.

Re: Discussing Blind Accessibility Specifications

Eventually this should be its own repo, but for now, it can dovetail on another project.I have broken down Audio Game interfaces in my master's thesis. What it comes down to though, is following established user experience heuristics, such as Jakob Nielsen's 10 heuristics. We just need to give ideas on how each area relates to games and what is normally done. Each of these areas should be debated and commented on. Here is my initial set of thoughts:Visibility of system statusIn audio games, there are several system status messages that should be conveyed:1.    Is the game running. This can be done through music or environmental sounds, such as the guards shouting outside the safezone in Swamp.2.    When the user first logs in, there should be some recognition that something happened. This is done through a status message, such as the message in Swamp or Survive the Wild.3.    When the user is moving, there should be some kind of feedback. This is often done through footstep sounds, such as in Swamp, or engine sounds, such as in Cyclepath.4.    Barriers. There needs to be something that tells the user they can't go in a direction. Adventure at C does this very well by repeatedly making a sound when the user hits a wall. The problem with Adventure at C, is that new users may not understand that the knocking sound is actually hitting a wall and not a footstep (I showed adventure at C in a workshop and someone spent 5 minutes running into the first wall in the tutorial level). Swamp makes one hit sound, and the footsteps stop. People who don't know they should be hearing footsteps don't realize they can't move, they just think the game is broken. So I have used a "uh" sound coupled with another sound and every person I have shown the interface to seems to get that is a hit sound, especially if they are told once that is a hit sound.5.    Pressing keys, such as "h", to hear your health and "g" to get items on the ground. Messages are read through the text to speech.Match between system and the real worldSounds should be as close to the real-world as possible. Mario is a famous example where the sounds were too abstract for people to understand without playing the game. Yes, the themes were very distinct, but it did not make sense without playing the game. In A Hero's Call, there is the sound of water when you get near water, there are the sounds of fires if there is a camp fire. They use auditory Icons (sounds that are of real objects) to represent a data point, like a camp fire, in the game world. Sounds that are just beeps and buzzes are OK, but they take a while to understand. A good example is the navigation system in A Hero's Call. Doors have a particular sound that take a little while to understand, but it is very unobtrusive, not like the doors in Manamon, that sound like doors, but I don't want to stand by a door and listen to it for more than a couple minutes.User control and freedomMenus and dialogues should not be super hard to exit out of. Menus have existing conventions, such as up and down arrow keys to move through items, enter to select an item, and escape to go back in the menu. Dialogues need a way for you to repeat the message, go forward through the messages, and preferably go back through the messages (escape is also used to close messages). The game itself has a menu where you can save, load a game, pause, and that is gotten to by pressing escape. Also, for speech, I have found that players prefer to use their own screen reader most of the time, rather than the system voices. There should always be a self-voicing feature, but screen reader access should be an option.Consistency and standardsThe second chapter of my thesis and this ICAD paper talk all about conventions within audio games and each interface type. For tree interfaces (or menus), up and down arrow is used to move through items (except in some games that use left and right arrows), escape exits out of the menu or goes back, enter selects an item, there is often first-letter navigation, page up and page down jump by 5-10 items, and home and end jump to the top and bottom of the menu. There is also something (either a voice saying "top of menu" or a sound that plays, and the top item repeated, so you know you're at the top or bottom of the menu. Each interface has its own conventions, and these should be followed.Error preventionMany developers think that hitting a wall in an audio game is an error, and this is not necessarily the case. Games like Entombed and Swamp, make wall hitting part of the experience. A Hero's Call and Manamon do a great job in warning users before they hit a wall, that there is a wall coming up.For lava, or something of that nature that users should not step on, there is a warning of generally two steps that means "danger". Adventure at C and the Gate do this very well. Also, important messages should not go away in a button masher if you press a button

Stop punishing developers trying to make their games accessible

This was just posted by the developer of Crafting Kingdom and it is an instance of what you may think is helping really doesn't help with accessibility. If you are one of those 1-star ratings, please delete your review, as you are hurting the financial success of the company who is expending lots of effort on a market that is not very big. If you want to encourage accessibility, please comment on the above blog your support for the new game to be released, or create a thread on this forum and email it to the dev team. If you want to comment, say that you can't wait for the nonvisual mode to be released! Don't punch them in the pocketbooks if they are working on the nonvisual mode. Here is the post:Stop punishing developers who are trying to make their games accessibleJULY 11, 2019MIKRIMAHeads up – I’ve written this post to vent a little bit.The company I work for has just recently soft-launched a new mobile game called Galactic Colonies (Link). We are committed to making this game accessible for blind players as well eventually. We were actually hoping to have accessibility ready on release day, but we fell a little short of that.A few weeks delayTo cut a long story short, we ‘re currently working on adding in the missing pieces, but estimate that we need a few more weeks until it is as playable as we want it to be.an ingame screenshot of the game showing a desert planet surface with many houses, farms, storage and mining buildings.Screenshot from Galactic ColoniesIt is quite a complex game to make accessible. It contains lots of interactions with 3D elements, even including flying a colony ship around on a space map. All of these game mechanics need to be handled with custom new mechanics and love and care, which takes time.We are completely aware that there are players with vision impairments who are waiting to finally be able to play. But nobody is going to enjoy the game if we release the accessibility mode of the game in a barely working state. A few weeks delay is worth it in our opinion.Make your game accessible now, or else!Ever since we started an open beta we’ve been regularly receiving eMails from blind players letting us know just how upset they are with us. Some of these are quite disheartening to me personally, considering I’m working hard on making this game accessible. We’ve also started to receive negative reviews on the store because the game is not yet accessible. In one case, a 1 star rating was accompanied by the comment that the reviewer would change their review only once accessibility is added.Do a few bad reviews really matter? Yes. Our game just launched and overall review count is still low. So each 1 star review is quite relevant for our overall average score, and can cause some damage. The average rating will recover over time, but right now it’s there. But really, the effect this has had beyond that is what matters.Do bad reviews help? The first comment of our production manager was this: “We should stop making any of our games accessible. That way we avoid these kind of reviews.”This is probably not the reaction the people giving us bad ratings had hoped for.The mood inside the company has shifted and taken a sharp turn away from accessibility being seen as something positive. Now it’s a topic that causes eye rolls and sighs of annoyance. Instead of working on accessibility, I now have to fight to justify all over again whether the time spent on accessibility is worth it. Every time the topic comes up, the review is slapped in my face. My job just got a lot harder. It’s also highly doubtful that those reviewers will actually come back to change their ratings. By the time we’re done, they’ve most likely long forgotten about us. And knowing that is even more frustrating.I feel punished for even tryingI want to explain how unfair this feels. Those players are most likely not going through every single inaccessible app on the store and giving it a 1 star rating. There are hundreds of thousands of apps that are inaccessible. In other words, if we wouldn’t even try and just leave our game to be inaccessible, we wouldn’t have gotten those reviews.Instead, we’re getting attacked exactly because we are trying to do better, trying to make our game accessible. Yes, we aren’t as fast as everybody wants us to be, but is this a reason to try and bring down our game’s rating?See, leaving a bad review isn’t motivating us – or anybody – to work faster. It’s quite demotivating, to be honest.Moving things forwardAll things considered, the accessibility in Galactic Colonies is making good progress. We do not have a fixed release date yet, but it’s looking good. Most of the user interface is already accessible, and just last week we got space travel in the game working – but many things are still left to be done.At the end of the day, we are a very small studio, self-funded, and don’t have the capabilities and resources that big

Re: Honest discussion, why pay for and use jaws over free screen readers?

Lime Aloud, Sonar, and the Quickbooks scripts are 3 Jaws scripts professionals use every day that NVDA does not have. The fact NVDA is GPL means that any NVDA addon needs to be open source. This means that Dancing Dots or My Blindspot can't charge for the addon because someone can just copy the code and make it free.As for schools, I'm pretty sure the company behind Jaws lobbied and worked with the testing agencies to make Jaws work for all their tests. Now the only screen reader the tests work with is Jaws, so every single TVI needs to teach Jaws so the students can complete their tests.Otherwise, NVDA would be in every school hands down.

Looking for Blind Users for a Study on Nonvisual Digital Maps

Hello,I am looking for blind screen reader users to participate in a study I am doing for my master's research project. This study is on nonvisual digital maps. The study will consist of two parts: first there will be some questions on your experiences with maps, then in the second part I'll show you a digital map prototype and have you accomplish some tasks with it.The whole study should take approximately 1 hour.If you're interested, please post here so I can PM you to setup a time.Currently the prototype only works with a keyboard and modern web browser, so if you only use a Braille Note, Polaris, or phone, and would like to participate, please post here and let me know. I'm working on touch support and would like to run a study with that interface once it's working. The study requires: Skype on a PC (so you can share your sound with me), a modern web browser (Safari, Firefox, or Chrome), and preferably your own screen reader (although the app is self-voicing using the Web Speech API).I am a second year master's student in the Inclusive Design program atOCAD UniversityI have been a long-time audio gamer and have been exploring ideas from audio games in creating nonvisual digital maps. This prototype was commissioned by the Magical Bridge Foundation to make a set of nonvisual maps for their playgrounds.

He is trying to "Kindle" the passion for books in people. Why don't we all send Mr. Bezos an email, letting him know how many books we read with text to speech and ask him why he is not focusing on text to speech because it is by far the fastest mode of reading. Re: When is a business to big? FS in another Merger?

The way small business funding works is that Agencies will help pay for scripts and whatnot under $1000, but they won't help pay for open source stuff or fund scripts to be developed. This is the problem. No one wants to spend hundreds of hours of their life scripting an NVDA addon without getting any compensation.Granted, the only business piece of software I use is Quickbooks and frankly, Quickbooks is really really really old fashioned. Can you believe their gui changes in every part of the program? It is a hobbled together mammoth piece of software that looks more like Frankenstein than a 21st century app. This is one reason why they are really pushing for people to use their web app. But I don't know if their web app is accessible! The whole industry is looking for a little upstart to create a piece of software that will do accounting for everyone, just better than Quickbooks does. If someone has 200 hours to spend on scripts, I think cre
ating a mainstream app that happens to be accessible is much better. This makes the argument between NVDA and Jaws a lot more equal and defeats Jaws' advantage with scripted software.

Re: When is a business to big? FS in another Merger?

Jaws is required for state testing here in the U.S. So although tec training firms and TVIs would like to teach NVDA (They do!) they can't because Jaws has an exclusive contract with the common core testing commission. This is wrong and I hate it.FS is not too big, they have just fallen behind in their product development so people think paying $1000 for a screen reader is not worth it if NVDA is free and just as good. (They both read the screen).NVDA is completely hobbled by its LGPL license so businesses don't want to develop scripts for it. One can see this in the Quickbooks scripts. NVDA is way behind in scripting for pretty much everything.

The device is running an Intel 14 nm Cherry Trail quadcore processor with 8GB Ram.Granted I know nothing about processors, but 8 GB ram and quad core looks plenty fast to me.They are advertising it as a gaming computer, so a lot of their tests are using graphics intensive games like Half Life 2.I know NVDA is not as intensive as Half Life 2!Thanks for the battery info, I had no idea what I was looking for. I will keep an eye out for high mah.My idea is that I create a carrying case with a spot for the computer and battery on the bottom and an open spot for the keyboard on the top so it feels like a notetaker, just running Windows 10 and a lot faster and a whole lot less expensive!I have never heard of the NUC and I am not sure I understand it. It is a motherboard you add ram, disk space and everything to? It would be like building one of these PC sticks from the ground up?Do you know how big a NUC is and if it needs a fan? I may take a

The Coolest Little Computer!

Hello,Has anyone seen the new little PC sticks floating around? They are basically computers with just the processor, USB ports and wi-fi and Bluetooth. Most have been 2 GB of ram, but one just went up on Indigogo with 8 GB:Magic StickHas anyone used PC sticks and what do people think of the above stick?I am going to get the Magic Stick because I really would like a computer that only runs on less than 5 watts and is not loaded down with extra battery draining stuff. I don't think it has a built-in battery, so I am going to need to find one somewhere. (Does anyone know of any super powerful but compact batteries that have a USB connector?)I also love the powerful Wi-Fi and USB 3 ports. I think my setup for school and whatnot will be a battery, the magic stick and a USB keyboard. I have not yet found a good robust Bluetooth keyboard.Does anyone know what would be better:Storing f
iles on the internal 150 GB flash, storing the files on micro SD cards, storing files on USB sticks or getting an external hard drive and storing everything there? I am leaning towards the last option because I will probably never see any performance difference with 10 GB transfer speeds. I will install all programs on the flash (On my current computer that is about 10 GB tops) and for files, I will keep them on another drive. I believe that continuous saving is really bad on SD cards or flash disks, so I would rather keep all my electronics around as long as possible.I would like to replace my Braille Sense with something like this in the future, so I am not needing to hop between different devices. Now if this just had a Sim Card slot...

It is $0.01 a gig and if you make your bucket public, you can upload stuff to it and the urls never change. There are no adds and it is not expensive if your game gets super popular and you get more than 2 requests to your public URL in a month.I have my whole computer backed up on Amazon and it costs me around $3 a month.I use Sinkback Proand it is pretty much completely accessible with the object review cursor.Amazon also gives you a free year of all their services, so it is a VPS if you wish...thanks,

But it may be possible!Amazon looks like the best though. It downloads the whole book to your browser that way you can read it offline. My goal is to make something you can run on your Braille sense or apex. Can you run _javascript_ on your apex? I know you can on the Braille sense, but if I'm using a library like jQuery, it may not be able to access the _javascript_ after the webpage loads. Does anyone know how this works? Also, if people could test to see if they can get a list of problems and to figure out how the Kindle Cloud reader works, that would be awesome! Thanks,

book subscription services like Scribd, Oyster or Kindle Unlimited

Hello,I have been searching for a good, easy to use book subscription service that is larger than bookshare. With windows 10, I really think that we can leave bookshare behind and move into the mainstream market.I would like to know people's thoughts, if they have used these services, how to fix accessibility problems and any other thoughts.I have tried all 3 of the above and here are my thoughts:Scribd:They seem pretty big, much larger than Oyster and their web app reads with a screen reader. You can copy and paste, so I am a little curious at why or how they were able to get their web client approved. It is a little cumbersome to read, so I am wondering if anyone has any idea how to make it better? What there is is some links, the text then some more links. In order to go to the next page you press the down arrow. Is there any HTML way of telling when the cursor reaches the end of the text? Would it be possible to make a client that would
remove the top and bottom links and press the down arrow when the screen reader reached the end of the text? I don't know enough about html or browsers to attempt such a thing. I also don't understand Aria or how the screen reader reads a browser page to suggest a better alternative.I think one could do this in php and _javascript_, but I am not quite sure how. Are there any web pages that brows to other pages inside their web page? Kind of like a proxy?Oyster:They look much nicer and smaller than the other two services, but their web client is completely inaccessible. The text of the books is just random gobble-goop and there are no key strokes to move to the next page.I could not unsubscribe from them, so I sent them an email and they replied within 12 hours and asked me why I wished to unsubscribe. So I told them about their app being inaccessible and said that they should consider using an alert system with aria to say text. I also said that I r
ead 800 words a minute, so they would need to be able to keep up with that. Kindle Unlimited:Less expensive than the other two, but the PC app is horrible!!! I sent them an email asking if I could make them a better app for blind people and they sent me a response in horrible English saying that they were going to pass my request to people higher-up and to always smile...Their cloud reader is OK, but I can't really figure out how it works. Many of the buttons are not accessible and I don't think the key commands work as well as on Scribd. The advantage is that on the cloud reader there is a whole chapter shown, rather than one page. So if there was a way to script the screen reader to move to the next section when it hits the end of the chapter, then go to the top of the webpage, life would be very good.I will probably send another email to Amazon, asking them to fix their menus.

Hello, for those who use or would like to use EdSharp, please join the new mailing list by sending an email to:edsharp-requ...@freelists.orgwith the subject subscribeIf you don't use EdSharp and would like to use the best text editor in the worldClick hereto download it.Click here for tips and tricksA text editor is a little different than a word processor, for one, there is no graphics, no bold or marked up text and most documents are .txt files. This makes text editors super nice for programming, sending people documents you know they will be able to read, copying text into to make sure nothing weird happens from an html or word document and having complete control over your document types and styling. On top of that, EdSharp is built for screen-readers, so it is filled with countless key comma
nds and settings to make your writing super easy and accessible. I changed from word to EdSharp over a year ago and now it is so hard for me to even read word files, they are so hard to get through...Granted, I am not going to be inserting images or tables into anything but an html file, so that is a little problem, but a text editor is meant to be super simple and clean.I am not saying you should change from word to EdSharp as they are used for different things, I just found myself doing everything in EdSharp even if it didn't need to be because of how easy and powerful it is.

Hm, You're right, I'm very lost on this code... I did however make it python 2 and 3 compliant I believe as well as sped it up to 1/3 it's original speed.from math import cos, sin, sqrt, atan2, pidef dot(a, b):    return (a[0]*b[0]) + (a[1]*b[1]) def magnitude(a):    """returns the sqrt of a squared + b squared"""    return sqrt(a[0]**2 + a[1]**2)def normalize(a):    m = magnitude(a)    return (a[0]/m, a[1]/m)def pan_value(player_pos, player_facing, sound_pos):    player_facing = player_facing*(pi/180.0)    front = normalize((cos(player_facing), sin(player_facing)))    right = normalize((cos(player_facing-pi/2.0), sin(player_facing-pi/2.0)))    #translate the sound's position to be relative to the player    translated_pos = sound_pos[0]-pla
yer_pos[0], sound_pos[1]-player_pos[1]    #y is front because this gives an angle on the range 0 to pi instead of -pi/2 to pi/2    x= dot(right, translated_pos)    y = dot(front, translated_pos)    angle = atan2(y, x)    is_behind = y <0    return (cos(angle), is_behind)print pan_value((5, 0), 0, (2, 0))I guess with this many equasions, it is bound to be somewhat slow, but I don't think it matters when using pygame though as I don't think you can have more than 16 sounds going at once...

I'll go through camlorn's code and see what he's doing. It's just a little different than what Aprone did.BTW, you can copy and paste the code into EdSharp and do a ctrl+r and type:replace:    with\tand it replaces all 4 spaces with a tab.But Aprone, All my posts say the problem, but post 43 and 49 show what is going on.In a nutshell, the code is giving an error because you can't divide numbers by 0 and it is coming out with the sound as a -90 when the player is at 10,2 facing 270 and the sound is at 5,2. It is also coming out with a -90 when the player is at the same place 10,2 facing 270 and the sound is at 15,2.One should give 270 and the other should give 90.*question*Why does everyone have east at 0 when most people like to start out north?

Well,The problem is that each set of code that was typed out here is different and none of it seems to work for me. Granted I am not the best at BGT, so there could have been some new thing that was introduced above what I was looking at.But I would really like to get this sound positioning thing right as it is the last huge piece missing in my library.

Hello,I'm using python2, but I converted all numbers to a floatingpoint.Here is what aprone says about pa:If relativetheta was equal to zero, then the sound is exactly in front of us.  If relativetheta equals 45 then the sound is 45 degrees to our right, putting it halfway between being in front of us and being exactly to our right.  180 would be behind us and 270 would be directly off to our left.According to aprone's first post, 270 is facing north. His  equation:elif temp2 <= 0:        a = atan(temp1/temp2) + pidoesn't work because you can't divide a number by 0.It also doesn't take into account the temp1 variable if temp2 is 0.Then what is happening is you have a equal to pi and then you multiply 180/pi by a and it comes back to 180. Then you subtract 270 (pa) from 180.a = (a * (180.0 / pi))pa = float(a - pa)from math import pi, sqrt, cos, atansound = (5.0,2.0)player = (10.0,2.0)pa = 270.0temp1 = float(sound[0] - player[0])temp2 = float(player[1] - sound[1])if temp1 == 0 and temp2 == 0:    a = -1.0elif temp2 > 0:    a = atan(temp1/temp2)elif temp2 <= 0:    if temp2 == 0:        a = pi    else:        a = atan(temp1/temp2) + pia = (a * (180.0 / pi))pa = float(a - pa)print(pa)*edit*Looking at Aprone's post 31, he says something completely different.He says it should look like:if temp1 == 0 and temp2 == 0:    a = -1.0elif temp1 > 0:    a = atan(temp1/temp2)elif temp1 <= 0:    if temp2 == 0:        a = pi    else:        a = atan(temp1/temp2) + pia = (a * (180.0 / pi))-90Aprone really likes dividing his numbers by 0 doesn't he This doesn't give the right numbers either. It just changes the -90 to +90...

I'm actually completely lost at what any of the math is doing... I can just tell we're working with circles and I want a 90 degree angle one positive and one negative I think...

Hello,So taken my assumptions from the above post, I did:#start codeimport mathsqrt = math.sqrtsound = (5,2)player = (10,2)theta = 270mya, myb = playersounda, soundb = soundtemp1 = sounda - myatemp2 = myb - soundbif temp1 == 0 and temp2 == 0:    absolutetheta = -1elif temp2 > 0:    absolutetheta = math.atan(temp1/temp2)elif temp2 <= 0:    if temp2 == 0:        absolutetheta = 3.14    else:        absolutetheta = math.atan(temp1/temp2) + 3.14absolutetheta = (absolutetheta * (180 / 3.14))relativetheta = absolutetheta - thetaprint(relativetheta)#end of codeThere is something strange going on. If I change the sound coords to 15,2 the result that comes out is still -90 instead of 90.I think the problem is with the temp1 and temp2 lines, b
ut I am not going to pretend to understand what is going on mathematically to error-check the other lines. I put in a check in the last elif statement that defaults absolutetheta to 3.14 if temp2 is 0 as most calculators really don't like dividing anything by 0, but that is the only change I did to what Aprone wrote on the first post. After this gets figured out, I went ahead and worked out the panning line:h = math.cos(relativetheta * 3.14 / 180)And it returns a positive number, even though the sound should be negative. If anyone can let me know what is going on, I would love to know! Thanks,

Jaws I have found to be way slower than NVDA in the applications I use, mainly firefox, chrome, a text editor, Thunderbird and command prompt.Jaws also doesn't access all the things NVDA does and the only reason why I have jaws is for Lime and the Dancing Dots products.Other than that Jaws would not be on my computer.Jaws did a great job with setting the standard, now like IBM, they are dieing. The reason why NVDA copied Jaws was because Jaws worked and I, who learned on Jaws, wanted something that was going to work nearly the same. Now Jaws needs to compete with NVDA which, unless they get a whole lot more money, is not going to happen.

Does it work as a program to download torrents from a magnet link from sites like BTDiggOr is it just like a P2P Dropbox? Because it is p2p, does it work when your computer is not online? (I'm guessing no, one computer with the files needs to be on always).I also see:µTorrentIs this also a service like dropbox, or is it just for downloading files from a magnet link? Then, finally, what is a service like:put.io?Is it just a service where you tell the cloud to download torrents from a magnet link then access those torrents from the cloud? What is the advantage of using put.io vs a vpn service like ExpressVPNin relation to the Anonymity? If people have any other programs, please let me know and why you use them rather than these!I would assume torrenting is like 7zip for zip files or audacity for recording where there is one or two major players and the rest kind of are iffy. Please let me know!

Does this exist for email yet?

Hello,I was just looking through my gmail account and realized I receive upward of around 1000 emails a day. I have my gmail very nicely organized into folders, but I am looking at my google drive limit and it is at 20% just with email. I have nothing else in my google drive. This is in 5 years of using gmail, so it is not looking good if google does not raise their google drive limit. This is what I would like to know:Is there a way to search and list a list's archives that are online, without needing to actually receive emails from the list? I still would like to be subscribed to the list and have the ability to send messages, but I don't want all that extra email filling my google drive.for example:I get emails from squeakson...@googlegroups.com.I don't read most of them, but I like to go back and look at threads every so often to see what has been going on. I also like to send emails to the list every few months, wh
en I have a question about my squeaker. This list gets between 30-100 messages a day. over 3 years, that is about 87600 messages. Now, all googlegroups are stored on googlegroups.com, but I really hate going onto googlegroups.com, doing a search and fighting with their ever-changing interface. Especially when I send an email, I would like to just be able to hit reply from my client. This is just one example. I am subscribed to about 45 email lists and I have sent an email on each one in the last year and have read email from each one in the last 6 months. I do unsubscribe from the emails I don't read anymore. But this is something around 1000+ emails a day and I really don't need all those going into my gmail.I use Thunderbird. This seems like it would be an addon for the client rather than a setting in gmail or something else.please let me know if you have any ideas or if you also have this problem!

The next big thing will be the ability to controll your phone using your mind. Then it will go to computers. No more keyboards, it will be just:email (email cliant opens)open documents/school/2014/fall/cs200/notes monday october 13 2014.txt (the document opens)write "I like pie... lots of pie... orange pie... red pie..."Just like touch screens are now, thoughts will be the new touch screen. My mom has some students who play the thought-controlled games and to her those are normal already...After that, what will happen is the computer will either go on the head, like glasses, or we will make some massive jump in science that will give us the ability to receive input.for the problem is not with exporting thoughts, just importing them. We still require our senses to tell our brain stuff.Does anyone know what these mind-controlled units are called?

WYSIWYG Editor that outputs readable code?

WYSIWYG Editor that outputs readable code?

Hello,Are there any wysiwyg editors that will allow a sighted person to create a webpage then click export to turn that page into html?I am looking for something that has the option to do all 3 types of CSS (inline, external and top), with a focus on inline. It would also be really nice if I could teach my clients how to use the thing without using it myself (for obvious reasons, screen readers don't like wysiwyg editors very much). If I could import already existing pages and either specify the page to be a template or total content, that would be nice.In particular I would like to use this in conjunction with WordPress. I would like the sighted person to make the page exactly how they wish, then give me the useful html file that creates with the images. Is there something like this out there? If so, how can I instruct my code ignorant and time-pressed sighted people in it?thanks,

streaming netflix in Italy off a school network

2014-10-05 Thread AudioGames . net ForumOff-topic room : frastlin via Audiogames-reflector

streaming netflix in Italy off a school network

Hello,I am studying abroad in Italy and think it is a crime that some of the italians have not seen movies like Bruce all mighty, Napoleon Dynamite, dumb and dumber and all the American classics.I have a netflix account, but it doesn't work in Italy sadly. I am on a network that is super strict, to the point of absurdity (audiogames.net is blocked for example).I have downloaded all kinds of Proxy software to test it, but either my school's firewall blocks it, or it doesn't work on netflix. For example,I used a 3 day trial of proxify to watch movies at a friend's house. So I know watching Netflix movies is possible here, it is just getting the proxies I can use to work.I think my best bet is using a VPS from Digital Ocean and running my own proxy through that. That is what I'm doing right now. I've got Glype and it works great except for the fact that It gives me an error on YouTube and Netflix.I am conside
ring going to Squid and giving Squid a try, but I'm not sure it will be any different. All the forums and download pages for these things are blocked, so it is really a pain to learn anything or post in the forums.I do have an IPhone with 1 gig of memory that I can connect my computer to, but I need to be careful as I only have 1 gig there. I posted on several other forums, asking for ideas, but haven't received any responses. The Glype developers were just like "go to the forums if you want to get support and we won't unblock our site from proxy access" because the forums at proxy.org are blocked by all proxies as well as my network. So this leads me to think that Digital ocean is really the way to go as I can just change my IP or DNS if my network yells at me. Also, it is only $0.007 an hour. I don't know if I will need to get more data though to stream netflix. Does anyone know how video streaming works? I have the following on digita
l ocean:512MBMemory1 CoreProcessor20GBSSD Disk1TBTransferI really don't know what the above means, but considering my download speed is less than 100 MB a second, I think 500mb is plenty. When I go onto netflix, I am able to log in, and when I click on a movie it opens up and shows something like a black screen like normal. It just does nothing. I wait for hours and the movie does not load.I think the problem is that _javascript_ is not working and I have no idea how to allow _javascript_ through the Proxy. For example, the "apps" button on Google's page does nothing when I click on it. That is _javascript_ I believe.I also have a question about creating groups and creating permissions for my www/html/folders.I need the proxy to write to the folders, but I don't know how to tell the proxy from anyone else. My server is super unsafe with some of the folders that the proxy writes to read/writable by the p
ublic. How do I just allow the proxy to read and write to the specific folders?I'm running a LAMP server with all the latest software. It is a ubuntu distro, but I don't know the name. Also, would it be a good idea to switch to jinx rather than using a patchy? I believe jinx is faster right?thanks,

That is a lot of user names!!! LOL and I was using the wrong one.FileZilla seems to be by far the fastest and easiest to use, although using file explorer is nice for getting the basic folder tree in your mind. But file explorer has 2 major major drawbacks:1. you can't edit files from the window, you have to copy the file out of the ftp explorer window, open it, edit it, then delete the old file from the ftp window and copy the modified file in.2. It is super slow! FileZilla is almost instant where as  windows explorer only uploads a few kb a second.

Re: A fantastic resource on how to have a lovelife for guys in poticular!

I must say though, this month has been rather full of girls... I've met 3 that scream "Date me" and I've asked out 2. One did the classic flake on me, one I'm following the advice of my friend, so I'm not talking to her for a couple days and the third one I've got a date on Friday with. This is completely uncharacteristic of me, I maybe find one girl every 2-3 months, never 3! And on a summer! Life couldn't be better LOL...Part of it is that I'm leaving in September and that is putting on the "Fast and Furious" flag on everything. It is my personal goal to get laid before September. It has never happened to me before (The time it did almost happen I was too sick to enjoy it, but that's another story). So getting laid is always on my mind, but now it is kind of front and center. I'm going to establish that is what I want as soon as I can. I will tell them I'm leaving in September right u
p front, so they will know this will be short.Any ideas on how I can ask for sex tactfully? Above it says to move the touching along, grab the first kiss ASAP and make some sex jokes right off the bat. I'm not looking for a 1-night stand, more a 1 month-stand. So kind of a mixture of both techniques I'm thinking will work. What do you think?

Re: A fantastic resource on how to have a lovelife for guys in poticular!

At arqmeister:exactly! You are totally right! Although I am much more comfortable expressing my feelings with actions. I am extraordinarily Kinesthetic, so find that actions speak louder than words. In my experience, it is pretty clear to the girl that I would like out of the "friend zone" after the first kiss.I have been known to scare off girls because I come off as "Too intense" when I try and use words to express myself. I tend to write poetry and music about and to the girls I've dated. But, I've found that maybe one poem, or one thing of that nature is appropriate, I don't give her everything when I write it.I believe it comes down to the intensity build-up. How have you dealt with managing that?Although back to what you said, I can totally understand where you are coming from. Most girls have a very difficult time transitioning from "The Friend Zone" to a dating relationship with blind guys. This is why I
have kind of worked my dating criteria down to a science. What do I want from a girl:1. She must have a good mind on her.2. She must be physically attractive3. She must have a very pleasant speaking voice. For any girl the first and the last I can almost pick up instantly. For the second one, I need to do sighted guide in order to tell.So for dating, if a girl has 2 in abundance, I will ask her out as soon as I can.For the girl I'm going out with on Friday, She has the first and last one in over abundance, but I've never managed to touch her. I have, however, done sighted-guide with both her parents and her sister is a ballerina, so I'm 99.9% sure she fits my physical attractiveness" criteria quite nicely.(Although the first girl I dated had a really tall, slender family, but she was kind of short and chubby. It was medical though, and not something she got from her parents, so I felt fine dating her.But for
this girl I'm going out with on Friday This is how we met:I was invited to a birthday party of one of our cast members and I killed the competition they had for baking (Baking is incredibly sexy now a days, How many girls do you know cook? I can think of maybe 1 out of every 5...) and so that helped. I had gotten a ride there from another one of our cast members. In the party I was doing the scoping out and nothing had blared "Date me!" from any of the girls, but there was some that I needed to know a little more. When the cast member who was giving me a ride said he and his wife were ready to go, I departed wearing my master of the feast crown and when I got out side, I realized they were giving a girl a ride to the subway.I got into the car and scooted to the far-side. The girl got in and I was looking at her (Girls like to know you are looking at them and it is normal, even though you can't see a thing). And she turned her head to look at me a
nd she paused for a second. This was a pretty solid "I'm interested" sign In my opinion. And I like girls who are that clear to read.I instantly started on the questions, because she had number 3 and quickly got her name, (full name and facebook name) realized who her parents were and where she knew me from. (She was in the chorus and I was a lead. She also said that her dad would not let her study voice and she was studying psychology. So I got:Who she was,What she does,(I didn't get when she was free)Where she is fromWhy I should date herShe then departed to the subway and I went home and added her on facebook. I asked her if she wanted to go to this eatery on Wednesday. I thought that a dinner before rehearsal would be not too bad. She messaged me back and let me know there was not rehearsal and she would be glad to go on that day. I then asked her for when she was free. She gave me her schedule and we
made a Wednesday date. I got her number (Just in case I couldn't find her at the subway you know? ). She texted me on Tuesday and said that her work asked her to sub for a special event they were having, so she could only do a 30 minute lunch. I said that if we did do Wednesday, we would need to meet again very soon so we could have time to enjoy it. Then I asked her when she would like to have the second time be?She texted me back and said Friday. She texted me again and said that the Wednesday time would not work well because everything would need to be perfect conditions (no late subway, no line at the eatery... in order for us to get the 30 minutes. I texted her back and said "I agree. So Friday at 2 is a date! See you then!" She responded with "Yes, see you Friday!" So we set 2 hours for Friday and it is in her mind that it may be a &qu
ot;Date"! I will insist on buying her lunch and that will solidify the "Date status. This was all without touching her and I've gotten to talk to her maybe 8 minutes ever...

A fantastic resource on how to have a lovelife for guys in poticular!

Hello,After a night where I was millimeters away from having a woman I met 4 hours before spend the night, I started looking for ways I could have improved my performance.Dr. NerdLovewas a website that seemed to have answers to many of my questions and also addressed many I had seen on this forum. It deals with issues fromwhen to pop the kisshow to make a kiss mind-blowingMindsetFlirtingHow to come off as more attractiveHow to touch herand hundreds of other articles. They are chock full of movie examples, pictures with really funny captions (I don't need to know what they are of in order to laugh) and from what I've read, it fits into my experience.I was considering (and still may) write a blog on my social interactions as a blind person, but this website just answers most of the questions I've had to deal with so beautifully.I also google the questions I have in relationships and another good place to look (although you need to take what they say with a grain of salt) is wikiHow.In particular, the articles I read today were:How to touch a girlHow to Physically Flirt with a GirlFor those who wish to know, I was in the prime environment (which I've never been in before). One of my older friend
s takes a huge thrill out of connecting people both for business and I guess relationships. He invited me to a concert (for those who don't know, I'm an Opera singer, so am partial to any live music). Unbeknownst to me, he had invited a single girl who was a singer/songwriter along on the ride. So when he picked me up in his car, he went right into the art of match-making. It isn't like they show it on the movies. It was very clever and I'm in awe that my friend was able to pull it off.He first introduced this girl to me (IDK if it was purposeful or not, her name was the same as one of my Xs who I'm kind of still in love with) and said she was "the Taylor swift of the town". He then had her play some of her music (He told her to play the very best ones that were her favorite) and he guessed I would like.He also made it quite clear to me right up front that she was single. I believe he had her play a song with a guy singing along wi
th her and of coarse I asked her who that guy was and she said "A friend" and I asked her about the different people she jams with and whatnot. I know that it is very rare for a girl like that to date anyone who is not a musician, so it pretty much put up the "I'm single" flag in my mind.Second, my friend parked and went off to check into the performance space and left me and the girl to get places in the restaurant alone together. This did two things:1. It allowed me to do sighted-guide with her which gave me an idea of her physical attractiveness. My friend knew the kind of girls I like (Pretty much slender and not taller than me) and 2. gave us time to talk.I'm not sure if my friend did this intentionally, but for lack of doubting his mastery, I'll just say he knew it all along for the rest of the story). It was an Italian eatery and we happened to both be going to Italy in the next couple months. So we g
ot talking about that and my friend came back. We ordered and the girl and my friend started talking about some guy she wanted to go out with. My friend started giving romantic advice. My panini came and I intently ate my food, trying not to hear the conversation. But for lack of a better excuse, I'm a very proficient eves-dropper, so If that conversation didn't tell me that this girl was single, I don't know what would have.It also told me that my friend wanted me to hear this conversation and one of the questions my friend asked her was "Are you willing to be set-up?" Which means "Are you willing to go on a blind date?" And she gave the typical answer that she's willing to, but she needs to know the guy is not a horrible person. But more importantly, this was basically what my friend had done to me, He had texted me like 5 days before, asking me if I wanted to go to a concert. He wouldn't tell me anything about the conce
rt other than the start time, end time and maybe the cost. Then when he picked me up it was with this attractive, single lady who was wishing for a boy-friend. My friend asked the questions one should ask of a potential date and made it clear that I knew:1. the girl drove to his house to drive with him2. He was way to old for her3. she was willing and open to a relationship4. The kind of guys she preferred were musicians, sweet and forward.5. She was not sure what she wanted in a relationship (She was one of those people who can't make up their minds what they want and are looking for their prince-charming to come sweep them off their feet)6. He managed to insert into a conversation that he was having fun connecting couples with one another and that is what he had been doing the last couple weeks. He then introduced us to a couple he had matched a while back and that were going out. Re: Role playing over Skype

What do you mean by "bufs? What I could do is create the ability to make different profiles for each role, then you can press that number on the keyboard or arrow down to it in order to edit it. When you create or edit them, you can add bufs to them. When adding the bufs, It can ask something like:Would you like to add, subtract, multiply or divide the total? Then you can choose what you wish and enter the number you desire. So I could press:add, then 4.3and it would add 4.3 to what ever I rolled.Would that work? Then that profile would be saved with that buf. What I can also do is make it so you can add bufs to them when you press the number to role. The question is, would you like more than 9 slots for presets? If I make only 9, I can make the ability to just press say 1 and preset 1 will role.If I do entry, you would need to type "23" and hit enter and preset 23 would role. You could of coarse hit t
he up or down arrow to find the preset you wished.I don't play that many games like this, so don't know what people would want. When you add a die, you could also do the same.

Re: a question about blind friendly linux distributions

4 things you need to know about linux that is different than windows:the windows key takes you to your desktopthe alt+f1 key opens the start menu. the alt+f10 key opens the control panel (I think it is that last key command, it may be start+f10).and f10 is the only button to open the menu bar. the alt key opens the run dialogue.

Re: a question about blind friendly linux distributions

Vinux is really meant for beginners, it is built so you don't need to worry about installing inaccessible stuff to begin with and it tells you if something is not going to work. They also have tutorials on their website for vinux. I would say try out vinux first, then make sure you can use the console apps there before moving to one of the others, but that is just my opinion. And supposedly Vinux will have a new update coming out very soon...
