Re: Monthly Chat - August, 2020 @afrim, hope you do okay, it's worrying to hear someone's got it. @Aaron, I'm a little jealous of those theatre workshops, given there's bugger all in terms of performing arts for blind people on mainland britain, something that really irritates my lady. Finding an agent is not exactly easy, especially trying to find one these days who doesn't specify women only or "minorities", which apparently does not count blind people, but it's I think the only way of actually getting my work published, since online publishing takes wy more online promotional skills than I have, I'm just a guy who writes things . Still working on my novella though and I have a number of other things finished, so perhaps the eventual plan is a short story collection, or getting my stories published in anthologies, but I'll need to find a professional agent first. At the moment though as I said, things aren't easy due to Mrs. Dark not being well, us worrying it might or might not be cancer, and the knock on effect of continuing lockdown, actually to say that this is the point in the year when we usually would be preparing for international music summer school which hasn't happened now for several years, summer is not an easy time anyway. On the plus side, season 4 of game of thrones is really good! I don't remember it being this good, but then again there was a bit of a gap between me watching seasons 1-3 and season 4 the first time when I watched it in thirteen. Unfortunately, finishing season 4 also means I'll be on to the season when they finally run out of books, which i think happens somewhere in season 5, which I'm not looking forward to, since I've heard a lot of none specific doom and gloom about the conclusion of the series, though I've asiduously been avoiding any concrete information for fear of spoilers.Gaming wise though, things have picked up a bit, and shadowrine is proving fun, I definitely want to finish the game this time, even if sometimes the translated dialogue can get a bit floofy on occasion.Oh, and books wise we're continuing with dooma key, which I'll likely be reviewing soon. Actually I've dashed off a few reviews recently as well as This article, which is a fomral explanation of my issues with the concept of superheroes and which people might find interesting.Hope everyone else is having a slightly better time than we are right now. Registering Kurzweil 1000 version 14.14 Hello,Texas Workforce Commission purchased Kurzweil 1000 for me several years ago. I received a DVD with the software, but I don't have access to the disk right now. I do however have the serial number.I downloaded the demo thinking I could register it using my serial number, but the register option doesn't appear in the help menu. Do I really have to download a completely diffferent version? If so, that's ridiculous! Let me guess, the only way to get it is to contact someone? Ugh! Why not just allow the option to register from the installed demo like every other software package? Is there anything I can do to register this copy? Max Audio Pro issue (surprise)
Max Audio Pro issue (surprise) I'm having an issue with Max Audio Pro on my Dell, no surprise. When I plug my headphones in, it's behaving as it normally does where it tries to enhance the audio. I disable audio enhancements in Control Panel, but the first split second of sudden audio output is cut off, similar to the bluetooth issue. Is there a fix for this? Considering Jayde raised the topic of chess, I feel that's another example which I can do better at if I have sight.I have played a lot of chess against the sighted people, since there aren't any blind players in my immediate vicinity, I do end up playing against them.What I have observed is that, when a sighted person is calculating a move, they can have the entire board in front of them, so if they want to consider a move, they can just take a quick look of the board, and make the move accordingly.Meanwhile, what I do is track the position of the pieces with the fingers, (Since it is a blind chess set, I think I should have mentioned it first,) but even then I can't exactly have the prospect of the entire board, meaning that even if the board is blind friendly, I still can't exactly keep the track of every piece on the board.Now, this doesn't mean that I get an automatic loss against a sighted person. I do beat my sister regularly, (And so far she has only one against me once,) and I have a lot of close matches with sighted players where I nearly had the win, but fumbled it up.But if I did had sight, I would have been much more better chess player, and not to mention if something were to happen with my board, I can by a new one from the usual local shop. Re: Max Audio Pro issue (surprise) Oh, that's interesting. I didn't have that particular issue with Max audio pro. That is, I had it once when I updated to Windows 10 version 2004. What you have to do is update the audio drivers by downloading them manually from Dell's site for your particular model, that solved it for me. If not, Max audio is almost completely inaccessible except the microphone settings, so you will need sighted help to check if something can be disabled or revert to Microsoft's drivers if they aren't too horrible on your machine like they are on mine. So you'd hear them if you moved your ship over them but your movement would still be unrestricted. I think that's a really good idea. To recap, his idea of a "rejiggered team" was something like Wavotamus, Sirenea, Simphonid, Penguilum, Ghoperto, and Fowlusion. My favorites are Wavotamus, Grandlan, Guerrerrol, Sacroloon, Ghoperto, and Mantasteel. My favorites got smoked. I guess this sort of proves what he's been saying all along, which is that you'd do well to get as much speed and coverage on your team as you can. Grandlan and Guerrerrol didn't get to do anything, and Wavotamus just plain died to Fowlusion. Each Ghoperto got some hits off and then died. Also, sticky web is just mean on a physical attacker. You take half the damage you deal. So you'd either have to kill yourself with your own damage or wait it out and probably die anyway. So yeah. This is the kind of stuff you can get up to if you're a ninny like me and buy two licenses for this game. Would you restore your vision? @114Someone also worked out how to get some General Electric appliances talking by hooking into the maintenance port with an arduino, but I don't have the reference handy.W.r.t. blindness and autism, I don't think that blindness itself causes autism in the sense that the underlying mechanisms are the same, but somehow half the blind people I've known over the years have also had some of the stuff that's hard to attribute to blindness like highly focused interests. But I'm a programmer, most of my friends are programmers, and whether that's actually causal or not it's also a high correlation for such traits, so perhaps that's not surprising. New Realtek audio drivers have started doing this thing--it's a reason for one of the new features in the latest JAWS 2020 version. If you don't have JAWS, or that version, or don't trust that new feature, give this thread a read. The registry tweak in here solved it for me. The only difference is that we cannot purchase controllers for international participants. Any controller that works with modern games should work. Unfortunately, a PS1 controller will not work because it lacks analog sticks, and we make extensive use of the sticks for this study. We're actually holding this study right now and have time slots open for the next two weeks. Regarding international participants, we should be able to compensate you, but it will be with a gift card and not with a controller. Re: What's going with netflix? The only thing I can even begin to think is, maybe try making sure your browser is in full-screen, and maximize it to be sure NVDA can find the items. The issue with that is, that's only assuming that you're having trouble with every website, and that your browser isn't already maximized. I also doubt this is the case as mine still works fine minimized. Why you'd want to use this for anything other than Swamp, I don't know. You can, however, have profiles trigger when executables are run, though the interface for this has unlabeled elements with NVDA.
