How so? if we set aside confused admins for the moment, and assume CRM is the only entity promoting/demoting drbd. would it not be enough for a Primary on connection loss to set some constraint pinning the master role on that node/node group? the DRBD after-resync handler can then remove that contraint again. The idea is interesting. A RA modifying its own constraints ... However, it wouldn't work for a true split-brain. If the primary does that before being fenced by the secondary (which, given awkward circumstances for the split-brain, is possible), and the partition heals, the master would be pinned to the wrong node briefly. Also, given that it is a split-brain and the constraint is only on one side, the secondary would allow itself to be promoted - okay, so the cluster never would before the primary has been fenced, but neither must the master continue before the secondary has been fenced ... So, back on thread for a moment, if I wanted to give this a whirl what what be an appropriate size for one of the commercially available on-line UPS? It looks as though they start at 700VA - would this be enough for a CD Player, Transporter, Preamp, and triode power amp? -- browellm browellm's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=14260 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=52348 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles

Re: [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Audiophile power supply / conditioning
The main USP of these UPS's (sorry) for us is the fact that with an on-line UPS the connected equipment is never connected to the mains... It seems to me that ANY equipment could benefit from using a synthesised, battery powered AC supply. However, looking at my gear it's my 6 power amps that drain all the current and thus push up the price of the UPS. I reckon I could run the rest of my (quite complex) rig on a 1000VA UPS. Now, if I could only find one that was: 1) on-line 2) cheapish 3) smallish I could give it a try. -- Phil Leigh You want to see the signal path BEFORE it gets onto a CD/vinyl...it ain't what you'd call minimal...SB3+Stontronics PSU - Altmann JISCO/UPCI - TACT RCS 2.2X + Good Vibrations S/W - MF Triplethreat(Audiocom full mods)- Linn 5103 - Aktiv 5.1 system (6x LK140's, ESPEK/TRIKAN/KATAN/SEIZMIK 10.5), Townsend Supertweeters, Kimber Chord cables Outdoors: Boombox+Creative Sub (If I remember to turn it on...) Re: [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] SB3 direct connect to power amp?
Thanks for the responses. I am aware of the concerns listed in the Wiki (primarily having no volume control in case of failure) but I guess my primary concern was from an audiophile perspective. I have read that a big problem with passive setups is that many sources aren't up to the task of driving power amps directly. Whatever that means! I'm wondering how capable the SB3 is as a source to drive the Bedini directly without any active amp stage to help it along? -- Kellen Kellen's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=16569 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=52577 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles

Passive preamps are a whole different issue!. Re: [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] SB3 Digital Inline Adapter
Hostile skepticism Sean does not pass for being well mannered in my book. Something along the line of that looks interesting perhaps you would care to share abit more about... would have sufficed. Very well: It is my friend Ricky that is the telecommunications engineer not I. I just research the various mods out there and work with him on what we think will work. He traces all the circuits and does the lectronics. We live 800 miles from each other. Adding an inline transformer will not reverse the ferrite's action, it would only reduce the EMI. He did notice that on the scope. If the inductors L8 and L9 inside the SB3 are bypassed eg in the internal mod, the HF roll-off will be improved. There is a trade-off with the L8 and L9 bypassed, the pulse transformer must be used with the SB3 to reduce the EMI. The advantage of the Inline Pulse Transformer adapter is no internal mods and can be used with different S/PDIF links. He is gauging the effectiveness of the inline adapter by user's feedbacks, so far has been positive. The improvements are various between the combinations of sources and DACs, some combinations may be more noticeable than the others. I have posted the pics again along with the link to the pulse transformer for those that are interested. Re: [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] SB3 Digital Inline Adapter
No ridicule from me, I'm not even gonna comment on it other than the physical implementation as seen on the photo's in the previous message. The following two observations bring me to the conclusion below: 1. I read that thread with the scope-traces and it was mentioned that there was distortion caused by the core exiting the braid in the coax. If one takes that for accurate and: 2. On the photo here, the two pcb traces are cut only at the RCA connector. Than, the mod can be improved by also cutting the same two traces at the primary side of the transformer. Now, they are stubs and will cause an echo. cheers, Nick. -- DeVerm DeVerm's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=18104 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=52594 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles
Re: [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Audiophile power supply / conditioning
Just test your system like I describe in an earlier post in this thread. The UPS will not make a difference if your AC is clean already or if any noise on your AC doesn't make it to your speakers. Both scenarios can be measured by everyone who -knows- how to use a scope. Even if you have to pay someone to do this for you, that will be way cheaper than first buying a small UPS for trying out... and you might not even hear what the scope will show you. Also: if you amp isn't class A you can use a small UPS on low volume setting. cheers, Nick. -- DeVerm DeVerm's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=18104 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=52348 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles
