Yes, expectation bias is certainly a powerful factor. We know that it will influence what you hear. But what's most interesting about Poppy Crum's demonstration is this: You KNOW that what you're listening to on both occasions is exactly the same sound. So you should EXPECT to hear no difference. But the addition of the visual steering forces you to hear something different. This seems to show that non-auditory clues can influence you in a way over which you have no conscious control, even when you're in possession of facts that should allow you to ignore the steering. -- cliveb Transporter - ATC SCM100A cliveb's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=348 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=92918 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/audiophiles

Hi Jeff, wireless radio turned off in the Touch Do you mean connecting Wired and turning off WLAN using Soundcheck toolbox please? I do have opportunity to try Rega at home and think this maybe worth saving up for before spending elsewhere, except for sorting wired connection of course. I don't have options for any soundproofing given setup but with some of the different priority tuning in the Soundcheck 3 thread I have experienced better sound in some areas and know that my system can reveal more. In addition, when testing LAN opposed to WLAN I got improvement, more significantly when removing ethernet cable and listening to last 20-30seconds in buffer. Room mode taming, an important consideration for decent low-frequency sound, will require room treatment for sound absorption (Tube Traps, or similar) and/or digital signal processing correction. I had excellent results with the DSpeaker unit in my sig. The validity of Ron's point also hinges on the type of music you mostly listen to and how fussy a listener you are. Don't overlook cables. In my system, even a better (Monster, $15) cat6 Ethernet cable did cause a significant SQ improvement. I know, tough to believe, but that has been my experience. Best luck! Guido F. The thing that bothers me the most however is when a new Touch user posts a simple question (How do I use this thing?) and the first answer is, apply TT3.0 tweaks, remove the caps, solder the S/PDIF cable to the board, get a DAC and then you'll be getting closer to decent sound from a TOUCH. But that's just me and I'm not in charge. (If they made me king, I'd be more likely to want to follow the hydrogenaudio TOS #8 approach for this kind of stuff, but again, that's just me and I understand why that approach may be even a bit too limiting). can you provide an example of me giving someone grief, get real. -- SBGK SBGK's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=52003 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=92918 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/audiophiles

Re: [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Audio Myths!
Since thinking rationally about audio and relying more on science and measurements (XTZ analyzer etc) two things have happened: 1. The sound I am experiencing has improved greatly because (I believe) I've been focussing on things that really matter. 2. Although the sound has improved I've become more aware of how limited sound quality is under normal conditions, in absolute terms. I'm happy with my gear - I can't think of anything I'd want instead so I am lucky. It's just I've got real about how good audio replay can be in real domestic environments with normal recordings. (1) and (2) sound contradictory but basically it's a process of constantly downgrading my opinion about my current SQ (for my system/music) - whilst downgrading opinion of my past SQ even more severely! The single malt along w the fact that you miss Tokyo as well. I remember the late 60's early 70's when FM radio was just getting really started and the music one could hear then. I miss those days but, time goes on. I did not have a Squeezebox Touch in 1969, now I have 2 and am content that this is where I am today. -- dasmueller dasmueller's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=38035 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=92936 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/audiophiles

Sadly, it is what it is, happens to be the only real option for my system, and is under strict WAF control. I believe it is absolutely true that the best bang for your buck, and one of the most important components in your system is the space. It's obvious there are those who are so biased against any unofficial change that we shall have to agree to disagree, the tweakers will continue suggesting changes and reporting their fidings and the naysayers will continue saying enough of that sort of thing. -- SBGK SBGK's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=52003 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=92918 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/audiophiles
