[Aus-soaring] Glider to hire for Joeyglide
Hi ladies/gents Have just decided to enter Joeyglide this year and will be flying over from Perth around the 10th of December. Was just wondering if there is anyone out there that may be able to hire me a glider for the 7 day duration of the comp that is to be held at Narromine from 11th to the 18th of December. Any offers will be greatly appreciated but would prefer a glider that is still capable of water ballast. Please send me an email off list. It has not flown for a year and is currently in need of a Form 2 inspection. The aircraft has always been hangared and is equipped with good instruments including Cambridge GPS in both cockpits. It has been refinished in Dulux 2 pack PU paint and comes with a factory spin kit. The asking price is $ 65000 for a cash sale. Alternatively 3 year payment terms can be agreed upon with 25% deposit and interest on the balance @ 1% over the official inter-bank rate. In this case the asking price is $69,000. The current owner would need to be certain it was insured and his interest is noted on the insurance policy. The trailer is currently in use with another glider and will only become available during the second half of the year. It is available for $6,000. Photos are available on request. Re: [Aus-soaring] Oxygen Systems
Just thought i would add my bit onto this as well. Our Std Cirrus has had the MH set up in it for quite some time now and its not often i have to use it in anger. But we had our annual wave camp down at the Stirling Ranges in WA's south west. I found at 24000 i was severely hypoxic. I had it set to the N setting and was using a mask (i usually breath through my mouth). Couple of problems, i had to keep taking the mask off for radio reports and air traffic clearance where as if i used the canula i would not have had to remove it to speak and the O2 would have had no spots to leak out (the mask has the little holes on the side). If i had of realized i was hypoxic i would have set the thing to R/M the emergency setting. The only way i found out i was hypoxic was that i felt tired, sounded awful on the radio and had a whopping headache on the decent through around 12000ish. I have used it many times since with the canula but in thermals to about 13000ft or so and i felt fine. I would like to test the canula in the wave. Also i don't smoke and dont drink much but am on the chubby side. The MH system cost our syndicate about $1500 i think. Well worth it though, i still hold a high regard for them even with the miss hap. Kind regards Ash Matthew Gage wrote: Been using the MH system for 18 months. I personally take off with canula on, and system set to activate from 5,000'. It uses next to nothing below 10,000', but it really makes a difference having that small puff - it drove home the effects of hypoxia for me, and showed that I am badly affected well below 10,000' !!! I am a non-smoker and reasonably fit (but a bit on the fat side). Best of all is that by doing this, you don't have to think about it. You get what you need as you need it. Advice I received after I imported mine was to get the EDS box shipped separately to the tank and regulator - value of each package is then below $900, so you avoid GST (but check how much this pushes up the delivery fee). The system has the merit of using a pressure-reducing regulator direct on the bottle, meaning the entire rest of the system uses just simple, low pressure flexible plastic tubing instead of high pressure copper tubing. The system is light, extremely portable due to the above, and has an amazingly long run time due to being a pulse demand system. http://www.mhoxygen.com/ They sell direct to Australia and ship rapidly via FedEx - thats how I bought mine. Re: [Aus-soaring] Gliders wanted for MultiClass Nationals
Hi Not sure this has much to do with the rest of the conversation but here goes. Any thoughts?? Having a better glider at a comp like JG for instance would be a good advantage. I did some thinking and have worked out a theory its top secret but thats why im telling people. As far as i know the Joey glide comp uses club class handicaps which is fine but we are also able to carry water and i don't think there is any extra penalty for this. So if you take an older glider like your std cirrus and put a whole 60l in there then take your Discus2 or LS-8 and put 200l the better glider has way more of an advantage. So at a comp like JG you would be better off trying to get hold of the latest and greatest, am i right? Re: [Aus-soaring] Glider wanted to $20 k
Hi Greg. For $20,000 i would recommend something like a standard cirrus. Cirrus's perform well and are still very competitive in competition flying. They have a very good handicap. I wouldn't rule out an Astir CS/77 either.Just my thoughts Ashley Boyle (1/3 owner of cirrus GZU :-) ) [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: I'm looking for a glider trailer for up to $20,000. Nick Was that task on day 4 (5/01/07) at Joeyglide an official FAI 300? If so I'm elegable for the WAGA fastest 300km of the year! :-). By the way how did your housewarming party go? Re: [Aus-soaring] Jets
Would the heat have any affect on the rear end of the glider??? Ash david lawley wrote: Hi all, Ben said The only problem that strikes me at the moment is how does one start the darn things? 1.I would guess you would have to punch VNE to get enough air through them to do a in flight start. 2.If started on the ground is a GPU Cart or HPCA Cart needed. From my sketchy turbine/jet theory you would need about 30% airflow through them to inturn turn on the fuel and hit the ignition system. Just some thoughts? How does Bob start his jet glider ?? The small jets being used I have seen are self started by an automated electronic controller useing I think propane gas. Each of the units I have seen produces 25kg thrust, and is aboutt 200mm round and 350mm long. weight As I recall is 7kg, a wiring and controller, which can control multiple jets(up to 4 I think), giving a unified throttle for all jets. There are probably many other systems. These jets were originally developed for scale models, so need to have perfromance at relatively low speeds. I eagerly anticipate the up coming debut of a jet powered quad bike at our field soon, which is a test bed for a jet launched 15m racing class glider. In this setup 3 jets, one permanntely mounted above turtle deck and two retractable into the fuse, acceleration should be OK I think. Anyone know the relationship between thrust and horsepower? ___ Aus-soaring mailing list Aus-soaring@lists.internode.on.net To check or change subscription details, visit: http://lists.internode.on.net/mailman/listinfo/aus-soaring
Re: [Aus-soaring] Joeyglide
Come to beverley mate promise you wont regret it! We have a very cross country orientated club with helpful coaches great instructors nice facility's and excellent aircraft. I will even shout you a free ride in our DG-1000. We have good training aircraft like the ask-21 and puchacz. Ash Ben Jones wrote: I would but i'm a member of the 716 Airforce Cadets club in WA The problem i have is we are aimed at doing early flying trainin to basically C cert , then we encourage the students to join a local club and continue there training and further flying, At the moment we have only instructing staff as full members, consisting of 2 instructors, 1 Aei, and 2 tuggies in training (one being me),and 1 Puchatek, i'm at the point where i have to join another club eg Berverly , Narrogin or GCWA to continue the more advanced flying and tryout some comp stuff to see if i make the grade, So its off to another club for me What i would like to do once a tiny couple of ticks in the boxes for my training are completed is to attend a Coaching type event over east, where i can burn some fequent flyer points before they become extinct, go for a holiday fly my guts out and hopefully pick up some finer points of gliding over a week and a half and enjoy the sport before i find myself doing the aei thing and hearded into the tug, and meet the other juniors in the sport over a couple of tinnies / or reds for the older folk. Joey glide looked like it would fit my bill very nicely obviously not as a competitor now ... but if coaching in a twin for a week is avbl i'm still interested. It would be nice to fly a glider and actually see the vario go above zero and finally break through 5000ft i hear its been done before but ive never been in a cockpit and seen it when it has happened 8-), and when i have cracked the long hour flights i always seem to have ballast sitting behind me , which negates the use of those flight towards my C cert. Bummer.
