Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Doutor Gaspar Frutuoso--translation
Edna Phillips Kern died a few years ago. She translated volume 4 only (the book pertaining to São Miguel island). You can check the WorldCat to see if there is a copy near you. Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Doutor Gaspar Frutuoso--translation
Hi Sherry, Sandra, I am trying to procure a copy of Enda Phillips Kern's translation (or any English translation) of Gaspar Frutuoso's volumes. I found this group, and your correspondence, while searching. Any thoughts on how someone (from Canada if that matters) might find a copy? Thank you everyone! It is Luz! I have their marriage from several years ago when I had Joao Ventura do some research for me. Good to have their passport info. I have also found their ship manifest, The Mormugao. Interestingly, it ran aground on Block Island. Hard to imagine them sailing to a strange country and that happening. Open FTM 2. Click on “people” at the top of the page 3. Go to the person you want to make the family group sheet for 4. Click on “Publish” at the top of the page 5. Under “Publication Types” scroll down until “Relationships Report” is highlighted. 6. Double click on “Family Group Sheet” On the right you can check various boxes depending on what you want included. Once you have the report the way you want it go to the upper right hand corner and click on the far right icon (share). Choose “export as pdf” When the window pops up fill in whatever you want or fill in nothing and click on “ok”. In the window that opens make sure the top address field says This PC > Desktop; then in the bottom address bar name your file or just leave what is automatically filled in, just be sure you will remember what it is called and click on “Save” . Next: 1. Open your email program and fill in who the email is going to and the subject. 2. At the top of the page on the left, hopefully, it says “insert”. Click on it. 3. There should be a paperclip icon or perhaps on your email program maybe it says “attachment” or some abbreviation of attachment. Click on it. It should open a window. Make sure at the top of that window it shows the word “desktop”. If it does not, scroll on the left until you see “Desktop” and highlight it. 3. Scroll down until you see the name of the pdf you just created. 4. Click on it. 5. The pdf title should now show in the lower address bar. 6. Click on “open”. Your pdf file should now be attached to your email. Just click “send” and you’ve done it. Hi Carmen, Francisco Jacinto and Jacinta de Jesus make part of my extended family. To confirm Rosemarie's note about the Godparents; they are a couple. Also Francisco Jacinto's Grandparents origins are from Candelaria, island of Pico. PM me if you're interested in knowing more. Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] NEED HELP WITH TRANSLATION
You are welcome, Carmen. You are doing fine, just need to know some of the 'other' words!! It's easy to see unfamilier words and think that they are part of the name. You also have to get used to the Priests and their handwriting! Sometimes they write things all squished together and then other they drag them out like: ja de funto, sometimes it jade funto sometimes it's jadefunto! Once you become familier with your village Priest and the names in your village you will be okay! You really need to download the Genealogical Word List and also the Portuguese Paleography from the AzoresGenWeb site, if you haven't already. It really helps to check out the abbreviations and letter formations. The double "s" looks like ph, Nossa Senhora looks like Nopha Senhora. The "th" is very odd looking too. It took me a long time to figure out my greatgrandma's name as Theresa because the Th didn't look like Th!! Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Re: Consanguinity of couple in attached marriage record
Bill said, "one bride/groom is a great grandchild and the other a great-great grandchild of a single common ancestor" Yes, that is my understanding. Hopefully, Joao Ventura, the archivist will read this and confirm or elaborate. Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Re: Consanguinity of couple in attached marriage record
Thank you Margaret. I realized that when I realized it was actually the left record. Since it says 3rd and 4th degree, does that mean that one bride/groom is a great grandchild and the other a great-great grandchild of a single common ancestor, or that they have two common ancestors (one and 3 degrees and one a 4)? I've seen this multiple degrees before and just not sure what it means. Bill On Monday, August 8, 2016 at 6:20:48 AM UTC-7, Mara wrote: > Hi Lee and Bill, > > Lee, you read it correctly. Friends and fellow researchersI have decided to end my Ancestry subscription after being with them from the beginning. The cost has become prohibitive and the fact that we are not to share information anymore (unless we send directly from their site) and also that I am approaching 80 years of age are the biggest reasons. I will use it on an as needed basis in the future. I have enjoyed helping others and have enjoyed having others help me. With the help of one very special person on this list, I have kept my promise to my mom so I feel my mission is complete. I will continue to be a member of this wonderful list. Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Re: Consanguinity of couple in attached marriage record
Hi Lee and Bill, Lee, you read it correctly. They obtained dispensation to marry due to their consanguinity in the 3rd degree. It means they have a Great Grandfather in Common. Their Grandparents were brothers or sisters of one another and their Parents were first Cousins as a result. [AZORES-Genealogy] Re: Consanguinity of couple in attached marriage record
Lee, I now think you may have meant the left side which looks like it might be Jose da Rocha (I can't really make it out, but this might be the name; I do not see Domingos) marrying Maria Joaquina. The note on the bottom says they had a dispensation for consanguinity in the 3rd and 4th degree. What I don't know is if this means they two common ancestors, one that makes them second cousins and one that makes them third cousins; or they have a common ancestor that is 3 degrees from one of the couple and 4 degrees from the other (such as 2nd cousins, once removed) I hope I'm not confusing all of this.
