Hi JR,

I never found any records of Manuel having a daughter, but she is on the
Citem site listed with no parents. I believe you have her marriage date
wrong though as this record is from 1774 and you have her marriage in 1785.

[AZORES-Genealogy] Help with Obit

2018-05-03 Thread Sean Andrade
Hi,

Bottom right for Manuel Garcia de
Andrade:
http://culturacores.azores.gov.pt/biblioteca_digital/FAL-HT-CAPELO-O-1738-1791/FAL-HT-CAPELO-O-1738-1791_item1/P102.html

Does it say if he is married or widowed?

Can anyone make out how old it says he is?

I see the date as May 1774, but can't make out the day, can anyone make it
out?

Thanks!
Sean

I found on here that you can search by
name:
https://babel.hathitrust.org/cgi/pt?id=njp.32101007628793;view=thumb;seq=11

On the top right under Login you can search by name and it will bring you
to a web page and list page numbers of where the name can be found.

Hi,

Is this book tracking the first families of Faial? I did a very quick skim
of what I could find online and did not see the Andrade name in it which

names to discuss. I'm sure he says it in the book, but I can't read

[AZORES-Genealogy] Marriage Record Capelo

Hi,

I am across this marriage record on the top
left:
http://culturacores.azores.gov.pt/biblioteca_digital/FAL-HT-CAPELO-C-1736-1816/FAL-HT-CAPELO-C-1736-1816_item1/P21.html

I believe it is between Miguel Silveira and Rosa Maria

I am curious why it looks different compared to others, like the one below
it. There are some similar to this record and some similar to the one below
it. I don't typically see two different marriage records like this on back
to back pages. Is there a reason for this? Does this marriage record say
something different then the one below it?

I can't translate this record but I do notice that it has words that I do
not recognize especially on the first few lines.

Any help is appreciated!

Thanks!
Sean

[AZORES-Genealogy] Rabo de Peixe marriage record

2018-02-09 Thread Sean Andrade
Hi,

I just want to confirm that this record on the right page is for Joao da
Silva Botelho and Candida Rosa do Espirito
Santo:
http://culturacores.azores.gov.pt/biblioteca_digital/SMG-RG-RABODEPEIXE-C-1870-1879/SMG-RG-RABODEPEIXE-C-1870-1879_item1/P128.html

This is what I can make out of the parents names

Joao: Joao Jose da Silva Bothelo and Maria Isabel Augusta?

Candida: I can't make out the dads name, and mom I see Maria Concecao?

Does it say how hold the married couple is and can anyone make out where
the parents are from?

Thanks!
Sean

Thanks for all the help! I can't imagine the odds of someone from the
mainland and someone else from Brazil having a child in Rabo de Peixe,
especially back then.

I found Marcionila's birth record on the bottom
left:
http://culturacores.azores.gov.pt/biblioteca_digital/SMG-RG-RABODEPEIXE-B-1851-1857/SMG-RG-RABODEPEIXE-B-1851-1857_item1/P164.html

I see that it mentions Brazil, but does it mention where the parents were
married?

Thanks! In her parents marriage record that you found can you make out
their parents names and are they all from Rabo de Peixe?

Thanks for the information!

I have a relative that has some oral history on that side of the family and
the name Ruth rings a bell, but I can't imagine it being the same one. I
will follow up with her to see if she may know anything.

Do you happen to have a family tree that you could share with me? I can

Thanks for the help!

Bill, that marriage record you sent, What is Manuels mothers name? I see
Francisca ___ de Jesus, but can not make out the middle name. I just
started this side of my tree so I don't have much information yet.

If I wanted to search the Brazil records is there somewhere I can look,
something similar to the CCA but in Brazil? Is there also a group like this
for people searching Brazil lines?

[AZORES-Genealogy] Birth Record Margin Notes

2018-01-23 Thread Sean Andrade
Hi,

I am having a tough time with this record. It is for Maria on the Bottom
Left:
http://culturacores.azores.gov.pt/biblioteca_digital/SMG-RG-RABODEPEIXE-B-1900-1905/SMG-RG-RABODEPEIXE-B-1900-1905_item1/P74.html

The parents to me look like Manuel Pacheco de Mello and Clottilde Goncales
da Silva

Does it say that the parents are from the same place or somewhere else?

The margin notes look like it states who she married, but then there are
some other notes underneath and on to the second page that I am having
trouble with. Can anyone make it out?

Thanks!
Sean

[AZORES-Genealogy] Ribeira Grande - Sao Miguel

2017-10-06 Thread Sean Andrade
Hi,

I reached out to the registrar for Ponta Delgada for documents on my grand
parents and they directed me to Ribeira Grand since my ancestors are from
Rabo de Peixe. I have tried using the email they gave me which is
registos.rgra...@dgrn.mj.pt but every time i send an email I get a bounce
back saying the email is not deliverable. When I let Ponta Delgada know
they assured me that it is the correct email. I have been trying to do this
for the past few months now with no new updates/

Does anyone know why these emails may be bouncing back? Is there anything
else I can try aside from physically going there?

Any help would be great.

Thanks!
Sean

2017-07-14 Thread Sean Andrade
His wife did die there in 1912, but I have no idea where he died. According
to her death record he was still alive. I have searched the records and
asked the registrar in Horta if they have anything but they don't.

I've also tried using the arquivos website to search the other islands for
his obit, but nothing outside of Horta shows up in my searches. So i wonder
if I am doing the searches wrong.

I have no clue where he could have died, but that is what I would like to
figure out.

I used the arquivos website and checked the obit's that came back but none
of them were the right person.

There doesn't seem to be too many records with people of this name so I'm

Any other tips on what I could try to find his obit?

[AZORES-Genealogy] João Pereira Pinheiro

2017-07-11 Thread Sean Andrade
Hi,

I am having difficulty finding the death record for João Pereira Pinheiro.
He was married to Francisca Emilia do Curacao de Jesus who died in Praia do
Norte in 1912. I have her death record and it says he was still alive when
she died. I reached out to the Registrar in Horta and they said they could
not find any record on him.

He was born in Sao Mateus so I reached out to the registrar in Madalena but
they said they wont look for anything without a year, and I can't give them
one because I have no idea.

I looked up on NEPS/Uminho but there is no death date listed for him so I
have no idea if maybe he was re married and not sure how I would even find
that out since records wont be online. Plus he would have been 66 at the
time of his wife's death so not sure about the likely hood of that.

Any tips on how I could find this record?

Thanks!
Sean

Thanks! I haven't seen the Captain title yet. Does that usually mean they

If it is the military are there records online to look anything up that

[AZORES-Genealogy] Madalena Pico - Conservatória dos Registos Civil

2017-06-08 Thread Sean Andrade
Hi,

I have been contacting the registry in Madalena about two death records
post 1911. The person I am in contact with said they can't send email
copies of scanned records, but won't explain why. I find this strange
because when I was in contact with Faial they had no problem sending me
email copies of records post 1911. The only time they said they couldn't
was if the record had yet to be digitized, but that they would send it over
once it is.

I will not be traveling to Pico or the consulate at any point in the near
future and want to know if there is another way to find a digitized record
after 1911.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks!

Thank you you the information!

Cheri, I read through John's postings and found it very helpful, I even
noticed Exposto in his obit.

Gayle, I took your advice and searched for his birth record. I believe I
may have found it:

I believe it says he was left at the house of Jose da Silva?

I am having a difficult time trying to read what it says and I can't
understand most of it. I see there are quite a few names but I can't figure
out their relationships with everyone else

[AZORES-Genealogy] Unknown Parents

2017-05-22 Thread Sean Andrade
Hi,

Here are the marriage and obit records of Manuel Jose de Araujo:

Marriage Top
Right:
http://culturacores.azores.gov.pt/biblioteca_digital/PIC-MD-SAOMATEUS-C-1795-1846/PIC-MD-SAOMATEUS-C-1795-1846_item1/P106.html

Obit Bottom
Left:
http://culturacores.azores.gov.pt/biblioteca_digital/PIC-MD-SAOMATEUS-O-1859-1875/PIC-MD-SAOMATEUS-O-1859-1875_item1/P33.html

Both records state that his parents are unknown but don't seem to mention
anyone that may have raised him.

His birth record says that he is from Sao Matues but was baptized in
Candelaira but not much more information, or at least that i can translate.

In a situation like this, is there a way to find records of an orphan or
possible relatives that may have raised him?

Any insight in why both parents are unknown including the mom? I have a few
ideas in my head but would like to know if someone has come across this
prior and what ideas they may have.

Thanks!
Sean

[AZORES-Genealogy] Death Record

2017-05-18 Thread Sean Andrade
Hi,

Here is a death record for Francisco Dutra Andrade starting on the middle
right:
http://culturacores.azores.gov.pt/biblioteca_digital/FAL-HT-CAPELO-O-1818-1833/FAL-HT-CAPELO-O-1818-1833_item1/P14.html

I do not see his wife's name but I think his son's name is towards the
bottom of the record. I'm just not sure what it says after Francisco Dutra
Mancebo. I also see the name Rosa Maria but can't tell if it states that
Rosa is the son's wife.

Any help with this record is greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

[AZORES-Genealogy] Same Birth Records Candelaria

2017-05-18 Thread Sean Andrade
Hi,

I am searching through Candelaria on Pico and notices that for the years
1876-1888 they had two different records. Does anyone know why this was
done?

Here are the birth records for Antonio:

http://culturacores.azores.gov.pt/biblioteca_digital/PIC-MD-CANDELARIA-B-1876-1899/PIC-MD-CANDELARIA-B-1876-1899_item1/P30.html

In that record he is the very bottom right, number 22.

http://culturacores.azores.gov.pt/biblioteca_digital/PIC-MD-CANDELARIA-B-1876-1888/PIC-MD-CANDELARIA-B-1876-1888_item1/P39.html

In that record he is also bottom right, number 22.

It looks like someone rewrote the records perhaps?

On the second page can anyone make out what it says in the margin?

Can anyone also make out his maternal grandmothers name?

Thanks!
Sean

[AZORES-Genealogy] Birth Record Help

2017-03-31 Thread Sean Andrade
Hi,

I need help with the birth
record:
http://culturacores.azores.gov.pt/biblioteca_digital/FAL-HT-CAPELO-B-1760-1791/FAL-HT-CAPELO-B-1760-1791_item1/P237.html

It is for Maria on the left page in the middle. Her mother is Catarina
Ignacia. After it lists her mothers name there is a word I don't recognize
and then a couple of other names who I assume are the grand parents.

The word looks like Solteira. Does anyone knows what this means and why it
is placed there?

[AZORES-Genealogy] Cedros Obit

Hi,

Having issues with the obit on the very top on the right
side:
http://culturacores.azores.gov.pt/biblioteca_digital/FAL-HT-CEDROS-O-1742-1808/FAL-HT-CEDROS-O-1742-1808_item1/P120.html

I believe it is for Catarina Esp Santo, but I can not decipher the husbands
name. She would be a widow at this time and I think i see that word for
widow after her name, but then as I keep reading I believe it says she was
married to but I can't tell what names are there.

Thanks!

[AZORES-Genealogy] Francisco Silveira Matos

2016-09-30 Thread Sean Andrade
Hi,

I am having difficulty finding any records for a Francisco Silveira Matos.

He is the father of a son with the same name. I have found his sons records
and he is listed as the father on the baptism and marriage records (I can
post the link if necessary). His son died in 1921 in Praia do Norte so I
reached out to the registrar and was given his death record. Every name on
the sons death record matches except for his Father. They list the father
as Jose Silveira Matos.

Jose Silveira Matos is the name of Francisco's father which I know because
in his sons birth record it lists his grandparents names.

I have also found his wife's death record and it lists his name as already
being deceased.

Uminho says that Francisco was born in 1808 in Capelo, but I have not found
any such record and I believe the record they have listed for that date is
for another person.

I have not found a single record for him and I have searched several
different towns on Faial and searched through several years.

This has really been bothering me and I would like to know if anyone has
any advice or if I should just drop it and move on.

Regards,
Sean

[AZORES-Genealogy] Crossed out Name

2016-07-31 Thread Sean Andrade
Hi,

For the Second baptism on the right page for
Antonio:
http://culturacores.azores.gov.pt/biblioteca_digital/FAL-HT-CAPELO-B-1706-1760/FAL-HT-CAPELO-B-1706-1760_item1/P83.html

They say he is the son of someone and then cross out the name and write
Jose Garcia de Serpa above. Is this something that is common? Could it have
been done years later by someone else? I also can't read the name that was
crossed out.

The handwriting to me for the name does not look similar to the rest of the
entries by the priest. I haven't come across this yet so I am very confused.

My ancestor named Antonio has the father of the name Jose Garcia de Serpa,
but I am curious if this is the correct one. According to uminho it is, but
I have come across several issues on uminho with my ancestors. Plus the
entries this far back in Capelo are hard to read and a lot of them are
damaged so I haven't been able to find anything else that would contradict
it.

I can understand the year and what age they think she was. I also see the
names Joao Silveira Dutra, which I have as her husband, and Antonio
Silveira Pexioto, which I had as her son in law.

Does this record state that Joao is her husband?

I can not translate much about this record and it's a pretty long one. Any
information is helpful.

Thanks!

It looks like it says she is married to Francisco Silviera da Mattos who is
married to Maria Clara.

Am I reading that wrong?

I am trying to make out her parents name. I searched through NEPS but
couldn't find information through her name for her parents.

Her dad looks like Joao da Medina da Miranda? and mom is Isabel Homem da ???

I think it says they are from Sao Matteus but I don't know if I am
translating it correctly.

I have searched through obits for Sao Matteus but haven't found any names
like theirs so I am wondering if maybe they are from somewhere else.

Thanks! I can see it now and see she got remarried as well. I also found
her marriage record with Manual stating that she is the widow of my
ancestor.

Thanks again!

[AZORES-Genealogy] obit record

2016-05-21 Thread Sean Andrade
Hi,

I need help with this death record for Aguenda Barbosa on the top
right:
http://culturacores.azores.gov.pt/biblioteca_digital/PIC-MD-SAOMATEUS-O-1733-1755/PIC-MD-SAOMATEUS-O-1733-1755_item1/P27.html

It doesn't look like they list the husbands name, which is not the first
time I have come across this with the obits in Sao Matues. Unless someone
can see something different.

The record is very faded.

Can anyone see the year. I think it is 1737 but I would like confirmation.

Does it also mention how old she may have been?

Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Pico Birth Record

2016-05-18 Thread Sean Andrade
I did find the obit for his wife which is on the top right for
Caterina:
http://culturacores.azores.gov.pt/biblioteca_digital/PIC-MD-SAOMATEUS-O-1733-1755/PIC-MD-SAOMATEUS-O-1733-1755_item1/P111.html

She died a couple of years after him and NEPS said this would be his obit
which I listed in my other post. I was hoping his wife would be in the obit
so I coould confirm it was the correct one.

Hi,

Here is a death record for Matues Machado on the bottom
left:
http://culturacores.azores.gov.pt/biblioteca_digital/PIC-MD-SAOMATEUS-O-1733-1755/PIC-MD-SAOMATEUS-O-1733-1755_item1/P99.html

I can't make out his wife's name or even see if it is listed. I am having
trouble making out anything really since it is pretty faded. It looks like
it lists his parish but not his wife.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Thanks you, it is! I believe obits for Capelo are missing between the years
1807 - 1818 so I don't know if I will find her husbands obit as I have
searched the other records with no success.

[AZORES-Genealogy] Capelo Obits

2016-05-15 Thread Sean Andrade
Hi,

Here is an obit for Theresa Rosa 2nd on the
left:
http://culturacores.azores.gov.pt/biblioteca_digital/FAL-HT-CAPELO-O-1792-1836/FAL-HT-CAPELO-O-1792-1836_item1/P22.html

I am having difficulty seeing if she is still married or windowed. Can
anyone tell?

I also have a lot of ancestors from Capelo and recently noticed something
about their obits page. They have records from 1792-1836 and then another
book from 1818-1833. I want to post the direct webpage to show it here but
I can't. I can only post
this: http://www.culturacores.azores.gov.pt/ig/registos/default.aspx

If you go to obits for Capelo in Faial you will notice.

Has anyone searched through Capelo records and know why this is the case?
This was not something I had noticed a few months ago, but just noticed the
other day.

Thanks for the help!

How common is it that two people from different parishes get married in
another parish that is neither of theirs? Do you think the parents would
have continued to live in their respective cities and passed away there?

[AZORES-Genealogy] Very Faded Marriage Record for Capelo

2016-05-11 Thread Sean Andrade
Hi,

Here is a marriage record for I believe Manual Silveria Duarte and Maria
Clara Rosa on the bottom right and going onto the next
page:
http://culturacores.azores.gov.pt/biblioteca_digital/FAL-HT-CAPELO-C-1736-1816/FAL-HT-CAPELO-C-1736-1816_item1/P79.html

I believe the year is 1775 if anyone can confirm.

I am having trouble with the names of the parents.

For Manuel it looks like the Dad is Manuel and I can not make out
the mother
For Maria Clara it looks like Manuel da Rosa? And I don't see the mothers
name at all.

These records always start off with the date and where the record is, but
then there are a lot of words I dont understand before they get to the
names of the family.

If there is any pertinent information that anyone can decipher please let
me know because it might help me understand other records as well.

Thanks!

Thanks. I looked on Uminho and it says the mom is Goulart which I can see
the G and T in the marriage record. For the Dad on uminho it says Francisco
Dutra da Rosa, but it does not look like da Rosa in the marriage record at
all to me. So I'm not sure what to make of it.

What do you mean by dispensation? What information would it have?

Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Marriage Record Capelo

2015-09-14 Thread Sean Andrade
Hi,

I have another marriage record from Capelo I need help with on the bottom
right.
http://culturacores.azores.gov.pt/biblioteca_digital/FAL-HT-CAPELO-C-1736-1816/FAL-HT-CAPELO-C-1736-1816_item1/P102.html

I believe the year is 1787, can someone confirm?

I can make out Jose Dutra's parents names.

Ignacia Maria's father looks like Francisco Dutra da and Mother
looks like ___ Maria __

Does it mention where all four parents are from?

What does it say in the bottom half of the record? I see names and
something that looks like 3 degrees.

Hi,

I need help with this birth record for Inacia on the bottom

http://culturacores.azores.gov.pt/biblioteca_digital/FAL-HT-CAPELO-B-1805-1818/FAL-HT-CAPELO-B-1805-1818_item1/P47.html

I can read the parents names and grand parents.

The grandparents names I believe. Jose Dutra de Andrade and Inacia Maria.
It looks like it says they are paternal but they should be listed as
maternal grand parents. Or perhaps I am translating the words before Jose's
name completely wrong.

I also can't read the year, can anyone make it out?

Yes, I have noticed ancestors that are combined with someone else or the same
ancestor in different towns with slightly different information.

I will focus on another line for now.

Thanks for the advice!

Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Tips for searching

2015-09-03 Thread Sean Andrade
I have gone over 10 years each way in searching. On the wife's side I have
found her parents information, but not on the husbands side. I can try
searching for the husbands parents wedding information again.

I had been using NEPS as a guide, but it's still been difficult to find.
Plus there are different towns with the same people but mixed information.
I have to look at Capelo and Praia do Norte and a lot of the times there is
contradicting information on people.

I will keep my eye out for siblings too and see if that helps.

[AZORES-Genealogy] Tips for searching

2015-09-03 Thread Sean Andrade
Hi,

I have two ancestors that were married in Capelo and died in Praia do
Norte. I have found their marriage and death records. Their death records
say about how old they were. I have searched the Capelo baptism records
several times for the years around, and many years before and after they
were possibly born, and have found nothing.

Does anyone have any tips that can help me search? Is it just a lost cause?

So I found this record top
right:
http://culturacores.azores.gov.pt/biblioteca_digital/FAL-HT-CEDROS-C-1829-1847/FAL-HT-CEDROS-C-1829-1847_item1/P111.html

It says Francisco Leal is the widow of Maria Felicia. And this second
marriage is 1846.

It doesn't look like it has his parents and I think it says he is from
Praia do Norte.

2015-09-01 Thread Sean Andrade
Thanks.

My ancestor, their child, was not listed on that page, Inacia Luisa, who
died in 1871, and the death record lists them as the parents and says
Francisco Leal is from Castelo Branco.

I found the marriage record for Francisco and Maria Felicia in Capelo.

It does say that Francisco was born in Castelo Branco and lists his parents
which helped me find his Birth record in Castelo Branco.

Maria Felicia died in Praia do Norte and when she died in 1844 it stated
she was still married to Francisco which means he was still alive. A lot of
my ancestors had been born and married in Capelo but died in Praia do Norte
because I believe that section of Capelo officially became Praia do Norte.

I searched the death records several times in Praia do Norte for Francisco
Leal, but I couldn't find anything. I went on NEPS to see if maybe he was
in another town and came across that page. I haven't checked Castelo Branco
or Capelo yet, but if I don't find him in either of those I figure I may as
well check Cedros and see if I can find him there.

If I find the correct death record in Cedros would they make mention of him
being a widow if he remarried?

Thanks. His first wife died in 1944 in Praia do Norte. It doesn't say when
his second marriage was so I don't know if this happened while he was still
married.

It looks like he moved to Cedros after his first wife's death, but I wonder

Hi,

I was searching through uminho and came across this for Francisco Leal da
Costa:
http://www.ghp.ics.uminho.pt/geneweb/gwd.exe?b=CEDROS&lang=pt&m=NG&n=Francisco+Leal+da+Costa&t=PN

There is a notes section on the bottom that I tried to translate, but I
don't understand what it means. Here it is:

Notas

Hi,

Can anyone read the birth record for Joao on the bottom
left:
http://culturacores.azores.gov.pt/biblioteca_digital/PIC-MD-SAOMATEUS-B-1799-1815/PIC-MD-SAOMATEUS-B-1799-1815_item1/P11.html

His parents look like Joao Silveira _ (Goulart?) and (Agueda?)
Francisca. Does it say if the parents are also from Sao Mateus?

http://culturacores.azores.gov.pt/biblioteca_digital/FAL-HT-CAPELO-O-1792-1836/FAL-HT-CAPELO-O-1792-1836_item1/P50.html

I am having trouble with the mom's name. It also looks like it states his
age, but I can'r read it.

Does it say the parents are also from Capelo?

Hi,

Here is an Obit for Rosa Marie on the bottom

http://culturacores.azores.gov.pt/biblioteca_digital/FAL-HT-CAPELO-O-1792-1836/FAL-HT-CAPELO-O-1792-1836_item1/P68.html

It looks like they are doing Obits by saying who the person was married to.
But of course for this one there is only one letter before the name of I am
assuming is her husband. Does it look like Francisco Dutra d'Andrade was
her husband or father?

IT looks like this is for 1836, but i don't see her age anywhere. Can
someone confirm?

There are also names at the bottom. Are those just witnesses?
