Re: [Blind-Computing] Bear Share

2009-02-20 Thread Chris Hallsworth
I think as with any P2P file sharing program there'll be legal implications
should the FBI or whatever find out. At the end of the day you take
responsibility in what you download and the consequences you may have to
face. Just my £0.02 worth.

Hello everyone,
Does anyone know if the Bear Share program and it's services legal? They say
it is on there site, but I have my doubts. I know a lot of people are still
continuing to use JFW 7.0 cause the program is accessible with Bear Share. I
have my doubts if it is legal or not. Your bro in Christ,

[Blind-Computing] Protecting laptop computer

2009-02-20 Thread Mark
Hi
Recently, I found my self in a position where I needed to leave my laptop
unattended in a public place for a few moments. Now, as far as I can tell
nothing was disturbed but who really can be sure? It occurs to me that there
must be some way of protecting one's data and privacy under such conditions.
Are there any built in functions in vista home addition to keep people from
booting up the computer with out a password etcetera? Are there any other
safety tips people have for me?
 Thanks.

Re: [Blind-Computing] can you move a deleted email from the deletedfolder back to the in box

2009-02-20 Thread Mike Barbara
Hi Jason,

Go to the deleted folder and select/highlight the message you want to move
back to your In Box. Press control, shift, plus the letter V, then press
I for In Box, then press enter and your selected e-mail will be moved into
your In Box. The control, shift, + V is the shortcut keystroke for moving
messages between folders within Outlook Express. Take care.

Hi list,
I accidentally deleted an email. It is in my deleted folder of outlook
express. Is there a way I can move it back into my in box? I have copied and
pasted the info from it into a word file. But I would like to return the
original email back to my in box for the time being.
I am using XP home, outlook express and Jaws 10.
thanks

[Blind-Computing] CCapp.exe Issue Outlook Express

2009-02-20 Thread Bill Gallik
OK, I know I'll get laughed here, but here goes; I have a 733 MHz PC with
Windows 2000 (with all updates) serving as my OS. I have 512 MB RAM and two
hard drives -- the second drive serves as my work space. What this means
is that I try to leave everything system related on the system drive (C:)
and use the secondary drive for whatever files the applications I use might
create (including Outlook Express). I have my OE Storage Folder
identified as a folder on this secondary drive.

Here's the issue, often Outlook Express encounters errors while trying send
or retrieve email messages. Typically, I need to go to the RUN Start Menu
item where I type in CCapp.exe and launch that program. Then Outlook
Express is once again able to send and retrieve email messages. Does
anybody have any ideas what's behind this?

[Blind-Computing] Updating Window's Firewall Problems

2009-02-20 Thread Patricia Dunbar
This is from a friend of mine and this is her problem does anyone know what
she can do??

Well I am having very weird computer issues. I upgraded my windows firewall
when reccomended last weekend and the next day my issues began. I get
halfway through start up and get the dreaded blue screen. I am only able to
axcess one program at a time through my back up applications.

I have no start up menu or any other menus. It is the weirdest thing. And
the best of all is that when I managed to get into the restore to previous
date the only previous date is the one I upgraded the firewall on.

She uses xp and I think Jaws either 8 or 9.

Thanks for any help..

I never seen an update for the Windows XP firewall unless he/she did the
service pack update and I think it was done when jumping from SP1 to SP2. This
big update enabled (turned on) the Windows firewall. If he/she was told to
download this update via a popup or message on the screen or via email, it was
fake. Spyware or virus attack. I am only telling you what I think here.

Re: [Blind-Computing] Hardware based synthesizers

2009-02-20 Thread David Ferrin
It would depend completely on your hardware device of choice as a matter of
fact. The thing is you could do for example a DEC talk like I have set it to
come up talking in a DOS session booted up off of a floppy disk. It will not
speak in a pre windows state unless all of it's native drivers are loaded
and running such as in a DOS session.

Subject: [Blind-Computing] Problem with Avast support

Hi all:
I downloaded and installed Avast (free edition) on the 4th or 5th of Feb,
was informed during the installation process that i must register. I clicked
on the registration icon, filled in the information and was told I would
receive an email with needed information for completing the process. I later
saw on this list or another if you emailed supp...@support.avast.com you
could receive assistance as a blind user with the registration process, I
sent a emailed them saying I was blind. On the 6th of Feb I received an
email from Michal Zrubecky at Avast support saying he could help me if I
answered a few questions then he would register me and email me the product
code, I immediately replyed with the information, well by the 12th I had not
received a reply, so I sent the information again, thinking my email of the
6th could have been miss layed. It is now the 17th and no reply. Have any of
you had any experience with Avast support in registering you and is the
delay comman?
Thanks,

I never seen an update for the Windows XP firewall unless he/she did the
service pack update and I think it was done when jumping from SP1 to SP2.
This big update enabled (turned on) the Windows firewall. If he/she was
told to download this update via a popup or message on the screen or via
email, it was fake. Spyware or virus attack. I am only telling you what I
think here.

No it won't as far as I know. The Windows system contains the drivers which
initiate contact between the hardware unit and the computer. Until those

Re: [Blind-Computing] Winamp Question

2009-02-20 Thread Victor
Hi Donnie,

In the preferences of Winamp by pressing the key combination of control+P,
arrow down to the File Types, then tab to where there is a checkbox that
says, Launch Winamp for Audio Cd's and make sure that box is checked.

That's where you would find that option.

Once you've checked this box, closed up the preferences window, and closed
the Winamp window, at this point, you'll find that it should be the default
option when you press the applications key on the drive in question.

In addition to this, if you find that the what to do dialog box, as I call
it, keep's popping up, even though you've checked the box above, you can set
the auto start option on the CD drive, but you don't have to do this unless
you have to, so if you need instructions on how to do this, let me know and
I'll write something up for you.

the auto start option on the CD drive, but you don't have to do this unless
you have to, so if you need instructions on how to do this, let me know and
I'll write something up for you.

[Blind-Computing] GoldWave Streaming Audio

2009-02-20 Thread DoubleLegal
Hi everyone,

I was wondering if there is a way to set up GoldWave to record streaming audio.
There is a talk show that comes on in the middle of the night that I'd love to
be able to record to listen to during the day.

Is there a setting in GoldWave that would record streaming audio, or whatever I
can hear through my computer when I click on the link to the live broadcast of
the show?

Thanks for any help.

Ken

[Blind-Computing] help my IE is not working

2009-02-20 Thread Mark
Hi
I logged on to Google as normal this evening and found that JAWS will not
read the screen with the PC curser. It can how ever read it with the JAWS
curser. I don't know what happened. I tried bringing up yahoo with the same
result. Any ideas on what happened and how to fix it would be appreciated. I am
running JAWS 10, IE 7, and vista home addition.
 Thank you.

God bless,
Mark

Re: [Blind-Computing] Firefox problem

2009-02-20 Thread Negoslav Sabev
Why don't you use the task manager to stop the process? No need to restart
then. Use applications tab to stop the program, and if it's not working for
some reason, go to the processes tab and kill the process from there. First
look through the manager if you're not familiar with it and be careful.

Subject: [Blind-Computing] Firefox problem

  Hello all,
I often get a problem when reopening the firefox browser:
Close Firefox
Firefox is already running, but is not responding. To open a new window,
you must first close the

existing Firefox process, or restart your system.
OK
So what to do? I am tired of restarting my sistem!
  Thank you in advance!

Re: [Blind-Computing] Avira

2009-02-20 Thread Negoslav Sabev
I use it successfully. There are no scripts. It works well with jaws. It
does update and scan automatically. With the main window opened, just press
f8 and you'll land in the preferences. You can see the same option from the
trey icon. There you can see also option for manual update. The program has
standart menus. If you need more help, just call.

Subject: [Blind-Computing] Avira

Is anyone using Avira with XP and JAWS? If so, are there scripts for it?
How do I set it up or configure it? Does it do an automatic update and
scan?

Any help will be appreciated.
