Re: [Blind-Computing] restore point
Thanks, Trish. Becky - Original Message - From: Trish pzoell...@tx.rr.com To: blind-computing@jaws-users.com Sent: Tuesday, September 18, 2012 12:43 AM Subject: Re: [Blind-Computing] restore point Show all Hide all System Restore: frequently asked questions Here are answers to some common questions about System Restore. How does System Restore work? System Restore uses restore points to return your system files and settings to an earlier point in time without affecting personal files. Restore points are created automatically every week, and just before significant system events, such as the installation of a program or device driver. You can also create a restore point manually. For more information about System Restore, see What is System Restore? To open System Restore Before you start System Restore, save any open files and close all programs. Once you confirm your restore point, System Restore restarts your computer. Click to open System Restore. If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation. Can I undo the changes System Restore makes? Yes. Every time you use System Restore, a restore point is created before proceeding, so you can undo the changes if they don't fix your problem. If you use System Restore when the computer is in safe mode or using the System Recovery Options, you cannot undo the restore operation. However, you can run System Restore again and choose a different restore point, if one exists. To undo the changes System Restore makes Click to open System Restore. If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation. Click Undo System Restore, and then click Next. Review your choices, and then click Finish. What files are changed during a system restore? System Restore affects Windows system files, programs, and registry settings. It can also make changes to scripts, batch files, and other types of executable files created under any user account on your computer. System Restore does not affect personal files, such as e-mail, documents, or photos, so it cannot help you restore a deleted file. If you have backups of your files, you can restore the files from a backup. How do I choose a restore point? System Restore automatically recommends the most recent restore point created before a significant change, such as installing a program. You can also choose from a list of restore points. Try using restore points created just before the date and time you started noticing problems. The descriptions of the restore points that are created automatically correspond with the name of an event, such as Windows Update installing an update. System Restore returns your computer to the state that it was in before the restore point that you chose. How long are restore points saved? Restore points are saved until the disk space System Restore reserves is filled up. As new restore points are created, old ones are deleted. If you turn off system protection (the feature that creates restore points) on a disk, all restore points are deleted from that disk. When you turn system protection back on, new restore points are created. For more information about system protection, see What is system protection? What if System Restore doesn't fix the problem? If System Restore doesn't fix the problem, you can undo the restore operation or try choosing a different restore point. If System Restore doesn't display any restore points to choose from, make sure you have system protection turned on and that you have at least 300 MB of free space left on your hard disk if it is 500 MB or larger, or have at least 50 MB of free space if your hard disk is smaller than 300 MB. If System Restore doesn't fix the problem, you can also try an advanced recovery method. For more information, see Choosing an advanced recovery method. Was this helpful? Re: [Blind-Computing] searching for a file
After doing a lot of searching, I found a way to search for a file with a specific modified date. Once you have opened the drive or folder where you want to look for a file, tab to the search box and type: System.DateModified:mm/dd/ Be aware that there are capital letters and lower case ones. I do not know if it matters if you have to be case sensitive. You will also need to do a 2 digit month and day, and a 4 digit year. Now I've got to be honest, I did not finish typing in the above text. At some point I heard JAWS announcing something and I then found that I could use my up and down arrows to select if I wanted to look for a file from last week, earlier this week, yesterday, etc. I picked yesterday and pressed enter and I got the results I needed. Here is the URL to where I found this info: http://windows.microsoft.com/is-IS/windows7/Advanced-tips-for-searching-in-W indows Once on the webpage, press T and you will find a small table with examples of other search terms. [Blind-Computing] USB 3.0 question
My computer has two USB 3.0 external ports. I often see external hard drives sold using the 3.0 capability. Could the same result be achieved using an internal SATA III drive connected to the computer either one's own external case or using a USB bridge? Providing the external case or bridge are both USB 3.0 capable. All the links in any chain must be equal to achieve the maximum results. OK, thanks. Since the case I have and bridge also are old my guess is they are only USB 2.0. Is there any way to tell? Using the fn key with one of the function keys might even disable it. However, instead of pressing fn and all of the function keys one after another might not be a good idea because you will not know what might happen. lol, I just don't want to distruct your machine. However, I have a del lattitude and pressing function key 5 and the fn key disables my touch pad. Just a thought. [Blind-Computing] I Have a problem with my Email accounts
Hello Listers, I am having a problem with my Email Accounts. I am using Outlook 2010. I have Windows 7 and I use Jaws 13. I have 3 Email accounts and for some strange reasons all of a sudden one of the emailing list that I am subscribed is sending the messages to my other email account. I don't know why it happened because I have never sent emails from that email address and the owner of the list told me that I was an no mail. I never put myself on no mail either. I just don't know what happened! By the way, the Emailing list is a Google group. My other email address is a Gmail address. Could that be the reason? I am subscribed with my Hotmail address so, I just don't know why I am getting the messages from that list to my Gmail instead to my Hotmail. Is there a way to get the messages to my Hotmail address again? Thank you very much. I hope that I am making sense. Sincerely, Rosario Laugh when you can, apologize when you should, and let go of what you can't change. Life's too short to be anything... but happy. [Blind-Computing] Del Laptop Keystroke Question
Hi All, A friend is trying to get Jaws to work correctly on a Del Inspiron 512 computer running Windows7 64 bit Jaws13 latest. When he invokes the, Alt + Tab keystroke, Jaws reports control, alt, + tab. Or, When he types the quote sign, Jaws reports a Spanish letter. Does this behavior have something to do with the FN key its functions? If so, how can or, what can he do to make Jaws report correctly? All help will be greatly appreciated. Take care.
