[Blind-Computing] Removing Skype JAWS scripts can't remember how
HI. I cannot for the life of me figure out how to remove Skype scripts from the JAWS 13 ENU folder. There are several in there, and when I cut and moved all that were in there, I ran Skype and got an error and JAWS stopped talking properly. So, I must have done it wrong. Is there a proper way to remove them, or if I just move them out of there, how do I know which ones to move and which ones to keep? Using Windows 7 lap top 64 bit, and JAWS 13 Professional. Thanks. [Blind-Computing] Uploading profile picture on Facebook
Hi. I did this once long ago, but either I forgot how or they've altered the way we are to do it. I cannot figure out how to upload a new pic to use for my profile picture on Facebook. The help section confused me, and following all the links called photos didn't help. I finally did find one area where it said I could upload photos but only to an album, not to my profile. Even then, still how to upload wasn't clear. Anyone else dealt with uploading pics to Facebook and know how I can place it it as a profile picture? Thanks much. Chris Feist - The one and only! Re: [Blind-Computing] Can I use the JAWS dictionary to not read Unicode characters?
Hi. That's how I did it. If I recall, I held down the alt key when I typed out 8203 and it created that character. I then copied it to the JAWS dictionary. But it wants me to put something in the edit field to replace it, and I used the space bar. Unfortunately, then when JAWS reads a line with that character in it, since this character appears in the middle of words, it breaks up the word. For example: "Hi, how is ever yone doing? Unfortunate y my comp uter has issues." If I could just get JAWS to ignore that Unicode character all together and just read as if it wasn't there. But at least it's better than it was. Some sentences I still can't understand, but others I can figure out what it is supposed to say. Thanks. -Original Message- From: blind-computing-boun...@jaws-users.com [mailto:blind-computing-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of Mike & Barbara In Arcadia Hi Chris, I was able to make what you are wanting to do work in Outlook Express & Word. Below are the steps I used to do it. I did use the default dictionary manager instead of 1 of the application dictionary managers. 1. I created the " ? " & copied it to the clipboard. 2. Pressed Insert / Jaws key + D, for the the application dictionary manager, & then pressed control, shift, + D, for the default dictionary manager. 3. Tabbed to the Add button, pressed spacebar to open the Actual Word edit field, pressed the back space key a few times to make sure this edit field was empty, pasted the, " ? " character. 4. Tabbed to the Replacement Word edit field, pressed the spacebar 1 time, tabbed to the okay button & pressed enter. 5. Invoke the control + S keystroke to save, & Alt + F4 to close. This is how I created the " ? ." I turned the numlock off, held the alt key down, pressed 8, 2, 0, 3, let up on the alt key, & there was the " ? ". I then copied it & went from there. If you are creating 8203 symbol differently please let me know & I'll try to duplicate what you're doing. The " ? " is what I get when invoking the Alt + 8203 keystroke and I'm curious if you're getting a different symbol. Take care. Hi. Thanks. I double checked, and I made all those changes already. I especially wanted to be sure that reading Payne view was disabled. But get this. Remember I said when I hit enter on a folder, it didn't automatically focus on the email list view for that folder? Well, go figure, out of nowhere it now does. LOL. I didn't make any changes recently that would have prompted it, but it now behaves as it used to before, which makes me happy. NO more tabbing around constantly when I go from folder to folder. Anyway, I'm going to hang on to those instructions in case I forget. Those are definitely good settings to make in Outlook for a JAWS user. [Blind-Computing] Question on reinstalling Outlook 2007
Hi. Due to Outlook 2007 not responding, and running a repair and a system restore didn't fix the problem, I've decided I have no choice but to uninstall and then reinstall Office 2007. My question is this. If I'm going to uninstall Office, is doing it via the control panel and removing the program good enough, or is there more that needs to be done, such as deleting other files manually? Naturally, I'm wanting to do a complete, thorough uninstall so there are no traces of whatever this problem is that might return. I ask because there have been times that when I uninstalled other programs they left files on my computer, etc, so it wasn't really completely gone. Anyway, I'm not convinced this will fix Outlook, but I hope so. I was Googling Outlook and non-responsiveness, and some others who had similar problems still had the same issues after a reinstall. I'm hoping to avoid that problem by scrubbing every trace of Office 2007 from my computer. Thanks. Chris Feist - The one and only! [Blind-Computing] Strange unicode character in Facebook statuses
HI. The other day, something odd began to happen. On Facebook, I've found that some strange character is being put into the middle of all my status posts. It's ASCKI value is Character 8 2 zero 3. When I have the PC cursor on the character, it says nothing at all. When I read current line, it says question mark. So, when I read current line with JAWS, it would read something like this: HI. How is everybod question mark y doing? I sent an email to tech support at Facebook, but I hadn't heard back nor seen this issue resolved. I know several other people with JAWS having the same issue, so it's a Facebook problem, not one on my end. Also, this problem seems to be effecting screen-readers and cannot be seen with the naked eye from what I understand. So, I'm highly skeptical that Facebook tech support will even address it, but we shall see. Chris Feist - The one and only! Re: [Blind-Computing] Jumping to a time in Gold Wave
Ah, thanks! I had no idea about those buttons since the audio tutorial I listened to only used the F4 and spacebar to play files. Actually, in that older version of GW, hitting F4, or the space bar, did play from the start marker, but there must have been a change in the Gold Wave program or something. Anyway, so far, I don't notice a difference between the F2 and the F4 keys, they seem to react the same, but the F3 is doing what I needed it to do. And Rick, thanks, the only tutorials I've listened to were Start Buttons, which were very good, although a bit outdated. GW is reacting different in some cases to the way it did when he did the tutorial. -Original Message- On Behalf Of Hamid AITOUZNAG Hi, Concerning your questtion, you should know that goldWave uses three different play buttons; each one of them plays from a different spot in the file. One plays the file from the beginning regardless of where the markers are located. The other plays the area between the markers and the third plays only from the current cursor location. Those buttons are accessed from the keyboard using the F2, F3 and F3 keys. I guess that you have used only F4 or space bar to play the file. Try the other buttons to notice the difference! [Blind-Computing] JAWS couldn't read winamp playlist anymore
HI. I just did a system restore, and it fixed this problem. But I thought I would ask about this, just in case someone might have an idea, and I can avoid doing whatever I did again. Today, I was wanting to start a new playlist. I wasn't able to get rid of the playlist already loaded in Winamp. I thought a control N would clear it, but it didn't. OK. So, I tried a number of different keystrokes. I tried control F4, and a few others I don't' recall. When all was said and done, when I would go to the playlist, it wouldn't read the tracks anymore. It would be blank, or it would act like it was trying to read the ddesktop. I checked, and it said my skins were still set to classic, so apparently I didn't change that setting. I don't know what I did to mess it up, but it was a doozie. Any thoughts? I mean it's all well and good now since the system restore seems to have fixed it. But that was a disturbing turn of events that I wouldn't have expected. It goes to show that just pressing keys to see what will happen is not such a great idea as some advise to do. This is version 5.581. Anything newer I already tried and it was a total disaster, so I don't intend to ever upgrade Winamp again until I'm forced to. Chris Feist - The one and only! HI. Thanks for all the responses. I tried one of them, using Alt A, and it worked. How did y'all know about this nifty keystroke? I couldn't find it anywhere. [Blind-Computing] Sending email from a second email account in Outlook 2007
Hi. OK, I feel really dumb here. I receive email from two different accounts right now in Outlook 2007. However, I now find I need to not just receive but send out email on this second account, but I can't figure out how to. I can only send out from my primary account. I'll keep looking, but can anyone point me in the right direction? Thanks. Chris Feist - The one and only! [Blind-Computing] Moving songs within a winamp playlist
Hi. When I'm in a playlist in Winamp, is there a way I can quickly move a song to a specific spot rather than just using Alt up and down arrow? In other words, is it possible to jump a song directly to the top, or perhaps to number 13 in the list, etc? If a song is way down in the list, it takes a long time to Alt arrow up to move the song, and hopefully there is a faster way available. I'm using JAWS11. Thanks much. Chris Feist - The one and only! Re: [Blind-Computing] Desperately need Station Playlist Studio uninstall help
Hi Desiree. Thanks. That's exactly the info I needed. I did a clean uninstall now. Whew! I don't know why, but this demo for Station Playlist does not get along with my computer at all. I guess I'm just going to have to purchase the program outright and assume that I will like it. Others have said the demo is kind of flakey, and they don't have issues with the purchased program, so I'm probably OK doing that... would have preferred to try it out first, though. -Original Message- On Behalf Of Desiree Oudinot Hi, When you uninstall a program, often there are parts left over in the directory it installs in. I guess this is so that if people want to resurrect old settings, and install the program at a later time, they can do that. All you have to do is go into the directory where it was installed, usually C:\Program Files\whatever the name of the program is. If it's not under the name, in this case Station Playlist Studio,, it will be under the name of the company that created it. When you find that folder, just delete it, and try installing the program again. This is what's referred to as a clean install and can solve many problems with programs when they just stop working right for whatever reason. Hth, Desiree On 4/4/11, Chris Feist wrote: > Hi. [Blind-Computing] Desperately need Station Playlist Studio uninstall help
Hi. I was trying out the demo for Station Playlist Studio V4.33. It did a bad install, or is buggy or something, because it wouldn't let me add my music library. Then it would lock up, etc. So, I chose to uninstall so I could reinstall it to see if that would help. However, when I uninstalled the program, I got this message: Station Playlist Studio uninstall complete. Some elements could not be removed. These can be removed manually. OK My question is how do I do that? The reason is because I did tried a reinstall without knowing how to do that, and it retained personal data from before, plus the same problem remained. I need to somehow wipe all the data from that program but don't know how. I'm thinking of just giving up on the demo and shelling out the money for the actual standard version outright. That or just giving up on this program all together. It's been a major headache. I hadn't been this discouraged about a computer program in a long time. Sorry about being a downer. I'm just really discouraged right now. Chris Feist - The one and only! [Blind-Computing] Include in Winamp no longer in applications menu
Hi. I've installed Winamp 5.601 this evening. I'm having a few little problems, though. I open Winamp, and I want to create a new playlist. I alt E to open the playlist editor. Then I go to Windows Explorer and select the track I'd like to add by opening the applications menu where there is a selection to include to Winamp. However, even though earlier this evening I had that choice "include in Winamp", it's not there. Now the choice is add to Windows Media Player. Not sure what I may have done to make this option disappear. It was a nice way to add songs to the playlist. Can I get that back somehow? Thanks. Chris Feist - The one and only! Hi, thanks for the suggestion. I followed the directions and it worked. But let me share something I tried after I thought about it. What I did was open the email in question. I then shift tabbed up to the attachments, and used the application key. I selected enter on remove. Then I hit escape, and selected to accept the changes. I think it worked. I have the email exactly the way it is minus the attachments. When you told me I could just delete the attachments before forwarding, I realized you could probably do the same and just save the changes. -Original Message- From: blind-computing-boun...@jaws-users.com [mailto:blind-computing-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of Mike & Barbara In Arcadia Sent: Thursday, February 03, 2011 11:01 PM To: blind-computing@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [Blind-Computing] removing attachments from email but keeping theemail Hi Chris; These are some steps I wrote for myself using Outlook Express. Try them and see if they work with Outlook. Let's say someone sends you an email with an attachment in it. Now, you want to save the email but, not the attachment. Here is what you do. 1. With the email open press control + F to forward the email to yourself or to whomever you might want to send the email to without the attachment. 2. Enter in to whomever you are sending this email to. 3. Tab down to where the email says attachment and press the delete key or you can also, press the applications / context menu key, arrow down to remove, & press enter to delete the attachment. 4. Now, tab down to the edit field, make any changes, or remove old email addresses and crap like that and send the email. Now, when you send this email it will be without the attachment. When you delete an attachment, you better be damn sure that you want to delete it, because once you do , it is gone , permanently! In all the tests I've done, not 1 deletion went to the Recycle Bin. Hope this helps. Take care. [Blind-Computing] Is there an equalizer that I can use for Xm audio stream?
Hi. I'm listening to Serius XM radio online, but I have to listen via their online player. I sure would prefer to use Winamp since I can control the bass and treble within Winamp, but that's not an option. As a result, the music sounds flat in my ear phones. What I'm wondering is, is there some sort of program out there that would make it possible for me to control how much bass and treble my computer is putting out? I mean something separate from my sound card since its equalizer isn't the least bit accessible. I don't know if such a thing is even possible, but I'd thought I'd ask. It never hurts to ask, right? Since Winamp can do it separate from the sound card equalizer, I figured perhaps there's a little handy program out there that kind of does the same thing for streaming audio. It sure would improve my Xm listening experience. Thanks much. Chris Feist - The one and only! "What is the difference between the government and the Mafia? One of them is organized." Re: [Blind-Computing] Can't select text by word with Logitech keyboard
HI. What I'm finding is that control shift and numpad arrow keys will select text, but the JAWS command to do the same thing, Shift plus the Jaws Key and numpad arrow keys, won't work, on this keyboard. I prefer to continue using the JAWS commands since they are so ingrained in the way I've been editing text for years. It's more difficult to use the control key and lift up my finger from the JAWS key for me, actually. It slows me down. JAWS added the feature for a reason, and I'm trying to discover how I can get this keyboard to let me use it. -Original Message- From: blind-computing-boun...@jaws-users.com [mailto:blind-computing-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of Chris Feist Sent: Wednesday, January 12, 2011 7:58 AM To: blind-computing@jaws-users.com Subject: [Blind-Computing] Can't select text by word with Logitech keyboard Hi. I hold down shift + JAWS key + numpad right arrow to select the word but it doesn't move. It just sits there. I can, however, select by character with shift + numpad right arrow no problem. But that takes forever when I'm trying to select a block of text. I did a little experiment, and I tried selecting a word with Shift + JAWS key + the actual right arrow key located to the left of the numpad and that worked. Too bad that finger combination is so awkward. So, for some reason, the arrows on the numpad don't work when I attempt to select a word. I don't know if this is something that the keyboard has a conflict with or what. Perhaps there's a button that I need to press to allow the numpad to work properly with JAWS, I'm not sure. The reason I suspect that might not be the case is because every great once in a while, it will actually go through and allow me to at least select one word, but that's it. This is rather annoying as I am editing, copying, or cutting text. I'm not sure what to try. Anyone have any ideas on why this might be happening? I plugged the old Logitech keyboard back in to compare, and it works just fine as before, not having a problem selecting text. Then I plugged the new keyboard back in and it still won't select text by word. Very odd. It's almost the exact same keyboard, just a newer model, so I don't know what's going on. Re: [Blind-Computing] Can't select text by word with Logitech keyboard
HI. No, I never used the control key in this instance. It's a JAWS command to select text with the shift key along with the JAWS key and the numpad arrow keys. I use the numpad a lot, so this feature is very handy for me. There's some sort of conflict it seems like, and I don't' know how to track it down. This JAWS command works fine on other keyboards, but just not on this new one. If this JAWS command is not functioning correctly on this keyboard, I wonder what other conflicts I might discover as I continue on. So, I need to figure out what's causing this and what the fix may be. I can't be purchasing new keyboards every time a keyboard won't allow a particular JAWS command. -Original Message- On Behalf Of Cornell Ligon Hello There, sounds like you're forgetting the control key. [Blind-Computing] Blocking comments on Facebook?
Hi. I was wondering. Can I do either one of these two things in Facebook? 1. Can I block any comments from being posted for one of my statuses, notes, etc? And 2. [Blind-Computing] Can't connect to Internet, but I can via wireless router
Hi. For days, my XP desk top computer won't connect to the Internet. I have it wired in. However, I do have a wireless router. So, I do know that my Internet connection is working because via the router I can connect wireless with my lap top with no problems. It's just the desk top that won't connect. I'll need to get sighted help to make sure everything is plugged in correctly, but in the mean time, is there a way I can check on it possibly being a software problem? As mentioned, it's not the modem or anything because I'm connected through my wireless router just fine. If it wasn't for that, I'd assume I would need to reboot the modem or something like that. Re: [Blind-Computing] How do I burn a disc in Windows Media Player 12
Hi, Jim. I had to try it a couple of times before I did all the steps correctly, but I finally did get it to burn a CD. That first step, not knowing how to get the songs to the drive, was the sticking point. But using the send to option did the trick. Thanks, -Original Message- On Behalf Of Jim Rawls Chris, try this. Go to wherever the songs are stored on your computer. If they are scattered around, put them into a folder. Now, hit your applications key, and go down to where it says, send too. Then, send it to your Drive. Now, you should hear, insert a disk into the drive. After doing that, Go to the drive and open it. The file folder you sent should be there. Now, hit your alt F key, and go down till you hear burn to disk. hit enter there, and follow the prompts. Hope this helps. [Blind-Computing] How do I burn a disc in Windows Media Player 12
Hi I'm using Windows Media Player 12 and Windows 7. I'm confused on how to burn songs with the upgraded player. Before, I would copy and paste the songs I wanted to burn into the CD drive in My computer. Now when I try to open the CD drive folder in Windows Explorer, it won't let me. [Blind-Computing] Firefox and flash
HI. When using Firefox, often when I go to a Web site with video, I'll need to click on a button to play the flash content but then there is no button. However, when I go to the same site in Internet Explorer, the button is displayed and I can click on it just fine. [Blind-Computing] Text Allowed and best way to purchase voices
Hi. I've been reading up on Text Allowed at www.nextup.com. On their Web site, I listened to some of the samples of voices to pick from. The only thing is it said that if I purchase any voices from them, such as the AT&T Natural voices and Acapela voices, then they would only work with their products. I'm not digging that idea at all. So, if instead I was to purchase these voices directly from the manufacturer, such as AT&T natural voices, would they still work with Text Allowed just as well, if at all? Maybe it's cheaper to buy from Text Allowed or something... not sure. I'm trying to not spend a lot of money here, but at the same time I want to get the most bang for my buck. Basically, what I want to do is get Text Allowed and purchase about 2 or 3 voices is all. But I'd like to be able to use the voices outside of Text Allowed if I choose to. I'd appreciate your thoughts. Never been down this particular road before and it's all new to me. Thanks. [Blind-Computing] Qwitter: How do I download more than 200 tweets
HI. I've been using McTwit for ages, but I'm switching over to Qwitter now, the newest version. There are some issues that I need help on, however. Let's say my computer is turned off all day. I boot up and load Qwitter. In configuration, the max of tweets Qwitter says I can grab is the latest 200, but what if I have more than 200 I hadn't read which is usually the case? I've been told that I can adjust it via API calls or something so that I can grab all of the tweets I'm behind on rather than only the newest 200. Another question I have is what if I've already grabbed a certain amount of new tweets, but I want to go back and grab further back, like another 100 more whether I've already read them or not? Can that be done? To give an example, in McTwit I can tell it to grab as many tweets as I want. And then if I want to grab all of them again and more, I adjust how many tweets to grab and then change a setting to allow tweets I've already read to be redownloaded. So, I can have it grab the tweets all over again but go further back to grab more of them. I'm finding it difficult to comprehend that if someone is gone all day, they come home, boot up, and download all their tweets, that if they only get the newest 200 and that's it, that people are happy with that. Maybe it's not an issue for people who always have their computer on and Qwitter loaded, but surely there's a solution for us who don't do that. I'm perusing the read me file, and it's answering most of my questions, but there are a few that it either doesn't address or I'm just missing it. I'm not sure if it's as bad for me as it is for you, but at full volume on my Dell lap top JAWS sounds pretty tinny and is not very loud at all. Music sounds ok, but not fantastic. It may just be the way it is, unless someone else knows of a fix for you... a booster for JAWS or something. Maybe there's a bass boost somewhere? Re: [Blind-Computing] FireFox Question
I noticed something about that. Every time I use control L to type in an address in firefox, there is the current address already displayed and I have to delete it before I can type in a new address. Is that normal? Alternatively, In IE8 control L brings up a blank edit field so I don't have to delete anything... saves me some keystrokes. Not sure why it's not the same in firefox. -Original Message- On Behalf Of Chris Hallsworth You would open Firefox from either the desktop or start menu. Re: [Blind-Computing] Jaws saying tab, enter ect?
Hi. Start with JAWS key F2. Go down and open configuration manager. If you want this change to be universal, then do Control Shift D. that will make it for the default. Do an Alt S. Then arrow down to Keyboard options and hit enter. Then Control tab over to Key Labels. Tab down to a list view. In this list view you can choose what you want each selection to say, if anything at all. Some of them you can mute by tabbing down to a mute button while you are on a selection in the list view. Also, you can tab down again to change label, hit the space bar, then enter what you want it to say. You can delete everything in that spot if you don't want jaws to say anything for that selection as well. Don't forget to save changes, and that's all there is to it. [Blind-Computing] Victor Stream, where's the best place to get one
Hi all. For Christmas my folks are going to get me a Victor Stream or a comparable device. I really don't know a lot about which players are the best on the market, but I've heard the most about the Victor Stream and will most likely go with that one. I'm looking for advice on where to purchase one and what site might have the best deal on prices, etc? I want to make the best economical purchase, or I should say my folks' purchase, possible. I figure I should also keep in mind any potential warrantees, repair policies, etc. Things sure have a habit of breaking. Any other thoughts on the matter are welcome. Thanks and happy holidays. [Blind-Computing] Qwitter and limits on tweets
HI all. With the latest Qwitter beta release, is it now possible to retrieve more than 200 tweets? I quit using earlier versions of Qwitter because if I had more than 200 tweets to catch up on, it would only retrieve the most recent tweets, and only up to 200 of them and that's all. So, I was unable to grab all my tweets which was unacceptable. That's where McTwit was a huge advantage because I could retrieve as many as I wanted. I still would like to use Qwitter, however, but not if it still has that limitation. Chris Feist - The one and only! [Blind-Computing] How to read messages in Miranda window
Hi. I got a pre-configured version of Miranda installed and it's working. I had a question about the chat window when I'm logged on to MSN. When an instant message comes in, I have to back tab from the input edidt field to the history window to read the message. It isn't automatically spoken. In the past, before Miranda, I used MSN Messenger, and incoming messages were spoken automatically. And I also could hear the previous messages again by hitting alt 1, 2, 3, etc. I wonder if something similar can be done in Miranda? Maybe JAWS scripts are needed? Not sure. Maybe some of you Miranda users would have some tips that would help. I'm still using JAWS 10 at present and XP Pro. Thanks for any help. Chris Feist - The one and only! Re: [Blind-Computing] JAWS says spacemarkerinWord2003
Hi. Thanks but changing that verbosity setting didn't help. It looks like this may be a hard nut to crack. Hopefully the JAWS 11 upgrade won't do it, assuming it is JAWS that is the problem, then I won't have to worry about it anymore. At least it's only when I'm in spell-check. Strange that it's happening on one computer but not the other and they both have JAWS 10 and Word 2003. Ah well. Thanks again for trying. Chris Feist - The one and only! -Original Message- On Behalf Of Jacob Kruger The relevant setting in the verbosity dialogue is non breaking symbols... Re: [Blind-Computing] JAWS says superscript and spacemarker in Word2003
I do believe this worked for stopping Word from having JAWS say superscript. I'm crossing my fingers, but I think it's been successful. Thanks so much for the directions. Now if I can only find out how to get JAWS to quit saying spacemarker as well. Maybe I might find the answer in some of those autocorrect settings, but I didn't see anything like that so far. And the verbosity settings of JAWS didn't have anything for that that I could see. Chris Feist - The one and only! -Original Message-s On Behalf Of Mike & Barbara Hi Chris, Try the steps below to stop JAWS from saying superscript. If you don't want Word to use the superscript then you can also do the following: (this is for Word 2003). 1. Open the tools menu with Alt-T. 2. Use the up arrow key to move to the "AutoCorrect options" menu choice and press enter. 3. Use your tab key to move to the page tabs and then use the right arrow key to move to the "auto format as you type" page. 4. Use the tab key to move into a list of choices. 5. Use down arrow key to move to the "ordinals with superscript" choice and uncheck it by using the spacebar. 6. Use the tab key to move to the OK button and press spacebar. The above is only if you want to change the way Word replaces ordinals with the superscript attribute. Hope this helps. Take care. Hi. I looked in the verbosity settings, and there's nothing there that I can see that will stop JAWS from saying spacemarker between each word. Not sure what to try next. BTW, this only happens in MS Word 2003. And it only happens in spellcheck. It doesn't happen in Outlook or its spellcheck. Chris Feist - The one and only! -Original Message- On Behalf Of Jacob Kruger Check out your verbosity settings, brought up using jaws key + V, since there are various options in there that might decide whether or not it should announce things like superscript - except that some of these are just characters called that, and whether or not it should announce non-breaking spaces as that, or just as spaces. FWIW, those non-breaking spaces are - I think - typed using something like shift + space, and it means that if a line break occured near there, it wouldn't be implemented between the two words being typed. [Blind-Computing] McTwit downloading only some tweets
Hi. Sometimes McTwit only downloads 59 tweets at a time. Other times only 79. No matter what I have the boundary set at, this still occurs. I change the setting to ignore whether previous messages have been shown, and still it's 59 tweets at a time. I had this problem with the earlier version of McTwit as well as the newest one. Also, this exact problem has happened to others I know who use McTwit. They receive the exact same number of tweets, too. Usually the magic number of 59 or 79. I don't know if there is a glitch in McTwit or if this is some issue directly from Twitter. Unloading and reloading McTwit doesn't help. I'm at a loss. This is an off and on problem, but still. Hope someone has an idea. It's aggravating. Thanks. Chris Feist - The one and only! For answers to frequently asked questions about this list visit: http://www.jaws-users.com/help/

Hi. I'm back with a new webvisum question. I have webvisum set up on one computer, but I use a total of three computers at different locations. Under the same email address, is it possible for me to have more than one account with webvisum? Or put another way, can I use the same account for all three computers? And if so, how? Thanks much. Re: [Blind-Computing] Nod32 balloon asking to submit for analysis
Hi. I have JAWS 7.0, so I'm afraid I won't be able to catch that balloon when it pops up. I suppose that if I knew how to submit manually, then the balloon would go away. I hadn't heard the balloon pop up at all this morning which is a good sign. I may have lucked out. I was looking around in Nod32 under quarantine, right clicked on a file there, and fortunately a choice to submit for analysis was there. Then what came up was edit fields for comments and my email address, but there was no ok button, just a cancel button. However, somehow I suppose I may have got it to go through. *crossing fingers* Chris Feist - The one and only! -Original Message- From: blind-computing-boun...@jaws-users.com [mailto:blind-computing-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of Jacob Kruger Are you using jaws, and if so, what version? I think from either jaws 8 or 9 onwards, when a tooltip popped up, by default, hitting your left mouse click key shortly afterwards, it would by default click on it for you. Also have nod32 currently testing/running, and the only other thing I can think of is to try navigating directly to the system notification tray using windows key + B, get your jaws cursor to follow your pc cursor, and right and left arrow until it has focus, then try right clicking and see if the context menu has any value as such. Re: [Blind-Computing] Using WebVisum, was: WebVisum invitation for the Firefox plug-in?
Ah. That explains why navigation isn't going well in Firefox. I'm not ready to move up from JAWS 7.0 yet because all the newer versions of JAWS have been significantly less responsive for me. That's on three separate computers, too, and I wish I knew why. So many other folks don't have the same trouble I have. Oh well. The good news is that I can load JAWS 10 for when I use Firefox. At least I can do that much, and I'll reload JAWS 7 after I get done using Firefox. Re: [Blind-Computing] question about zen stone software
Shucks! I was hoping the scripts would read the battery life of the Muvo T100 as well. But I just downloaded and installed them for the Zen Stone, and they work great so far. Chris Feist - The one and only! -Original Message- On Behalf Of Victor Hi David, The software is player specific in terms of accessibility. In other words, the software is only accessible if you download and install the scripts available through Brian Hartgen's website, but the added problem is that the scripts are only good for the Zen Stone line of players, not any others. If you're hoping to plug in the Muvo T100 and get the battery level using the scripts and the software, then it won't work, and Jaws will give you a message that Zen Stone not detected. One benefit of the software is it's ability to queue files for transfer, meaning you can indicate which files you want to place on the Zen Stone, then press the keystroke to copy them to the player, so you don't have to keep switching windows and/or copying and pasting files one at a time. So far, those are the only advantages to the software that I can really see. As others have told you, the copy and paste method of placing files on the Zen Stone can be accomplished by the Windows Explorer windows, so it isn't really necessary for that alone. By the way, to get the battery level of the player using the scripts, the key one would press is F11. Hope this helps. Re: [Blind-Computing] Jaws making some crackling sounds
HI. I didn't think of that. Although, I use headphones and not the speakers. I'll try using both and see. I'll also play some sound files while JAWS is off and see if it still crackles at all. The good news so far is that it's not crackling real bad as of yet. Maybe I can zero in on the problem. Thanks for the tips. Chris Feist - The one and only! -Original Message- On Behalf Of Jacob Kruger Are you 100% sure it's jaws doing the crackling thing, or maybe just the fact that it makes the most sounds, while it's actually the speakers/sound card doing the crackling? Firstly, if you have speakers attached to that computer, try replacing them with something else, and see if that changes anything. Apart from that, you could also try killing jaws and see if while just sitting there it still crackles as such. All comes down to that the most common source of a crackling sound of this type is that some or other bit of insulation in the wiring/components of the sound system has as such become imperfect as such, and a form of static electricity is causing this sound. Re: [Blind-Computing] SP3 maybe stopping computers from connecting toWeb
I wanted to get back to all on this and describe the resolution to the problem I had with my computer weeks before just in case anyone else may have experienced this issue. To recap, I had downloaded service pack 3 and because of that install I could no longer connect to the Internet. Researching showed this to be true in cases of a failed SP3 install. In other words, apparently that day I shut down the computer before the installation was complete. Since I was connecting a new wireless router anyway, that was a suggested fix to get connected again to the Internet, bypassing the SP3 problem. Then I downloaded and reinstalled SP3 properly. All is fine now. *whew* If I hadn't had the new wireless router, it may have been a bigger mess to clean up, who knows. Anyway, that's that. I downloaded and installed a bunch of Windows updates onto my XP pro desk topp last week right before I went out of town. I return to find that when I booted up my computer I could not log on to the Internet. We tried everything we could think of, including system restore. No luck. But it turned out that after talking to a few other folks, my dad discovered that they were having the same problem as me. They said that after they installed service pack 3 they could not log on to the Internet either. Fortunately, I have a lap top computer I can plug my DSL into while my desk top won't connect. Has anyone else experienced this after installing service pack 3? The funny thing is I thought I hadn't downloaded service pack 3 yet. Does anyone know where I can go to look on my computer to see which Windows updates I've recently installed? That would help me narrow down the culprit. Thanks, Chris Feist - The one and only!
