[Blind-Computing] Youtube and screenreaders.

2011-10-02 Thread kim kelly
Hi list, I signed up with Youtube and forgot my information, I want to sign up

How accessible is it, and how is it done if it is accessible.
Any and help is greatly appreciated.

I came across this from another list, don't remember if it has been posted
here before.
At any rate, it works extremely well with Jaws 6.2 and IE 8 on my Xp
machine.

Disabling Screen Orientation Hotkeys

1. go to system tray, enter on, Intel graphic.

2. Arrow until you hear, graphic options sub-menu, right arrow to open.

3. Up-arrow until you hear, hotkes Sub-menu, right arrow to open.

4. Down-arrow until you hear disable, press enter.

Note, make sure you have rotated your screen back to original position
before you disable the hotkeys.

Another way I can do this is,

Using windows 7,

Go to desktop,
Press ctrl+spacebar to unselect item,

Press applications key,

Up arrow until you hear;
Graphics options sub menu,
Right arrow to open, down arrow until you hear;
Hotkeys sub menu,
Right arrow to open, arrow and enter on, disable.
Now, if you press alt+ctrl+right or left, etc, your screen will stay in
the

right position.

Hope this helps.

Try first insert and the number 3 which is the by pass key. Then control
+

alt + your arrow keys, if memory serves left or right will do it. I just
tried here and my screen flashed but I couldn't tell for sure.

You need to create a folder on your flash drive titled
audio+podcasts, and notice the plus sign between audio and podcasts.
You then place your mp3's in this folder.

It's all free for you to send the Email, but remember some people have to

Radio? Sure! Over Ten Thousand Stations
Document Source: Fred's Head from
www.aph.org
It's no secret that I love internet radio and streaming music over the
web.
I am still amazed that you can click a button and hear radio stations
from

the
other side of the world.
I've found another Windows only application that is screen
reader-friendly

and will tune into more than twelve thousand stations! If you can't find
something
to listen to, you're probably not looking hard enough. The following
directions from the AccessContent Blog will have you listening in
minutes!

http://blog.accesscontent.ca/archive/2010/10/20/online-radio-revisited.aspx
Launching Radio Sure:
If you've been successful with the install, the program should launch
automatically afterwards. An online radio station should start playing.
First thing
to do is stop the music and configure a few things. TAB through the
screen

until you hear play Button. Press the SPACEBAR and the stream will stop.
TAB to options and press the SPACEBAR to activate the option pages.
General Tab:
Remember, you can move between the tab pages by pressing CONTROL+TAB.
A few things you might consider modifying in the general tab.
. Whether you want the program to start with windows. Don't see the
advantage of this, as I'd rather control when it's playing.
. Whether you want a stream to start playing when you launch the program.
. And my favourite, Global hotkeys. I would urge you to enable this, as
it

then gives you the option of controlling RadioSure from anywhere. See
Global
Hotkey List at the bottom of this entry.
. Minimize the program to the system tray is handy, as it takes it out of
the way. You can summon it back to the foreground with one of the global
hotkeys
listed below.
We will skip the Skins tab, as it makes no difference to screen readers.
Recording Tab:
Yes, you can record the streams with this program. One thing you might
consider changing on this tab:
. The recording folder. The default is to put it within a folder called
music under the RadioSure program. You can point this folder to any
folder

of your
choice with the unlabelled browse button. You can look around the other
options on this tab at your leisure.
The Advanced Tab:
. You can choose your preferred audio device. Leave this one alone,
unless

you are having audio issues, or prefer to use a specific device.
. I'd suggest checking the Always show station in the window title, so
you

can easily hear the station name by pressing INSERT+T withmost screen
readers.
. I'd uncheck Show pictures related to songs, but that's just personal
preference.
Press SPACEBAR on the OK button and the setup is complete.
Yay! Let's start listening and finding radio stations.
The Main Window:
The first area on the program window is the list of all stations; over
12000
from across the globe. No non-terrestrial station as of yet, but who
knows.

Navigate this list with the UP and DOWN ARROWS. PRESS ENTER to start
playing.
Volume Control:
TABBING brings you to the volume control. It's independent from the
system
volume, which means it will not interfere with the screen reader levels.
Use
Page up/Page DOWN for 20 percent increments. Use LEFT and RIGHT ARROWS
for 5

percent increments. And finally, use UP and DOWN ARROWS for 3 percent
increments.
Searches:
Another press of the TAB will bring you to the search area. Simply type a
station name, a genre or even radio call letters and the station list
will

be
populated with the results. No need to even press ENTER when done. Press
SHIFT+TAB twice to get back to the modified listing. To get back to the
full

list
of stations, erase the search term.
Those are the main features of Radio Sure and should give you a good base
to

get started. All in all, a nifty little program if you like listening to
online
radio, but are too lazy to go surfing the web to find them all.
As promised, here are the global hotkeys. They make using the program
even

sweeter.
. (Shift + Alt + H) toggle hide/show Radio Sure
. (Shift + Alt + Number pad Plus) volume down
. (Shift + Alt + Number pad Minus) volume up
. (Shift + Alt + M) Mute
. (Shift + Alt + P) toggle Play/Stop
. (Shift + Alt + S) Stop
. (Shift + Alt + B) Back
. (Shift + Alt + N) Next
. (Shift + Alt + R

I believe that any of us who do such things would appreciate constructive
observations as to how we could improve our respective projects and make no
mistake these things do take a lot of time to work on, they do for me at
least I assure you.

So specific suggestions offered in a polite tone would be welcome. I
myself survived computer school using text books that did not always
explain things in simple English although everything we needed to know was
there, it just took some time to decipher it is all. So that is probably
how my recordings might come across, trust me it's all there but you must
pay close attention.

Anybody who has had to crack open the basics of MVSJCL has a real respect
for detail, more than one person hit the road when that part of the course
started. We lost a lot of good people when we got to the main frame.

these short cuts take a little playing with, but they do work.
As far as the descriptive videos, I have not heard anything about that.
Go to

to find some keyboard shortcuts for use with Netflix instant movie
watching

feature. You will need to use your screen reader's pass through key (jaws
key + 3 in JFW, NVDA key +F2 in NVDA, don't remember what it is in Window
Eyes.) before using the keyboard shortcuts.

I have discovered an additional one to those listed, ctrl+right arrow is
fast forward, you have to hit space bar to resume playing. Presumably
ctrl+left arrow is rewind, but I've not had occasion to test this.

I called Netflix one night to ask about Audio Description. They do not
currently support the capability to carry alternate audio channels for
Audio Description or foreign languages. Here in the US, the Government
uses a less appropriate term, Described Video Service (DVS), rather than
Audio Description. As far as the agent knew, none of the content has Audio
Description or foreign language audio tracks available from the studios
yet. I would recommend everybody call Netflix and let them know you are
interested in this feature. Their Help Desk is extremely nice!

To make it easy on everyone Here is the URL for the Netflix shortcut info
followed by the shortcuts:
http://www.tech-recipes.com/rx/7854/netflix-movie-player-use-keyboard-shortcuts-when-viewing-watch-instantly-videos/

The Silverlight player for Netflix has a few handy keyboard shortcuts
that
can make your viewing of Watch Instantly videos a little easier and
quicker.
You can also access the diagnostics menu, check A/V stats, and manually
set

the streaming rate.

F : To enable Full Screen Mode
Esc : To exit Full Screen Mode
PgUp : Play
PgDn : Pause
Space or Enter : Toggle between Play and Pause
Ctrl+Space : Pauses movie and shows and enters Key Frame Viewer; use
arrow

keys to fast forward or rewind.

To use the following shortcuts, you must exit Full Screen Mode:
Ctrl+Shift+Alt+M (Ctrl+Shift+Option+M for Mac) : Access the Diagnostics
Menu

Ctrl+Shift+Alt+D (Ctrl+Shift+Option+D for Mac) : A/V stats

Ctrl+Shift+Alt+P (Ctrl+Shift+Option+P for Mac) : Player info

Ctrl+Shift+Alt+S (Ctrl+Shift+Option+S for Mac) : Stream Manger (Stream
bit

rate; Manual rate selection)

Note: To close any of the above windows, simply repeat the keyboard
shortcut.

Hi Kim,

The iPods are accessible. I have an iPod Nane (5th generation) and it
works perfectly fine. The Shuffle also works well for my little sister.
I've heard that the Touch works pretty well.
I personally have not used a Touch or an iPhone. If you're confortable
with touch screens, go for the Touch or the Nano 6th gen. If not, go with
the Nano 5th generation.

Yes, the Apple iPod Shuffle costs 49 dollars and you can get it from the
apple store or amazon. If you have an apple store, you can look at it and
make an appointment if you want to have your personal assistant. This one
comes out the box talking with voiceover with large buttons to control it.
The others are touch screen using voiceover to control it. If you have

[Blind-Computing] What is the best rss reader and podcatcher?

2010-11-04 Thread kim kelly
Hello List:
I am wondering about Pod catchers, and rss readers.
What is the difference, and how they work.
Also, what is the best pod catcher and what is the best rss reader and do they
cost, and if so how much; also are there any free ones?
Thanks in advance.

For many years, I've wished that there was a site, not only with
information on older software and hardware, but where I could at least
find the software for download. Well, it's here and better than I
ever dreamed possible!

http://allinaccess.com/happ/

I found it tonight while looking for VocalEyes. Not only are they
collecting the demos of older software, but they're actively seeking
to contact the people who own the rights to all of this adaptive
software in the hopes of either having it released as freeware or open
source or of allowing people to register it. I can't stress this
enough. If we want to save this great technology, we must act now!
If you're interested, please pass this on, join their mailing list,
and if you have any software that might be of interest, let them know!
The more these companies see that we're serious, the more they may be
willing to help us. If you're the creator of older adaptive software
or hardware, please consider sending an upload to them of the software
or of the information for the hardware, or at the very least, allowing
users to once again buy and/or register your product if it's software
or selling on a first come first serve basis if you have a few pieces
of hardware left.

With appreciation,
Eleni

Hi Kim,

Here's a link to the Doctor's Book of Home Remedies published by
Prevention

Magazine online.

It's got every bit of information in the main text of the text version of
the Doctor's Book of Home Remedies, and is updated yearly to coincide with
new treatments and other new found cures or preventative tips.

The maladies are in alphabetical order, so, if you have the ability to
bring
up the find dialog box, or a links list, you can look through the book
using

first letter navigation.

Hope this helps.

I know that the scripts work well with JAWS 10, 11 and 12, because they
were developed under those versions. All of the functions used have been
available since JAWS 6.0, so most likely would work going that far back.
However, some of the function calls interact directly with the webpage DOM,
so I would not want to bet that Freedom Scientific or really old versions
of Internet Explorer / Firefox would work properly.

Will the NFB Newsline website have listings for your area?

I use www.titantv.com for my TV listings. It is very customizable and
displays the time grid in a true HTML table. This allows you to
navigate using the JAWS table navigation hotkeys. In general, they are
Alt + Control + Arrow keys. It can be set to view up to 6 hours at a
time.

I have a DirecTV DVR which can be programmed from a website. I have
written JAWS scripts to make it easier to go through the TitanTV
listings. Basically, it provides a table navigation mode that allows
just using the arrow keys to move around like a spreadsheet. The time
and channel titles are announced as you move through the table. Then
with a hotkey, it will start the DirecTV website and perform a search
for the show you are on so it can easily be recorded.

I realize not many people have DirecTV, but I use the table mode a lot
on large HTML tables on many sites. My scripts are at:

My problem with NFB Newsline is that ours will discontinue on October
1. This has been the only place I can get accessible listings, and it
was available by phone so I called and used it a lot. But with it
discontinuing in my area, I wonder if they'll at least have it
available to everyone online. It's just so hard to find a good TV
guide online, so I understand this frustration and welcome all ideas.

Yes, it seems to have all broadcast, cable and satellite providers in the
US. For satellite, it has DirecTV, Dish, Sky Angel, and C-Band.

I do not think it can work outside the US because it asks for a zip code
first. I would not know what to enter for UK or South Africa. Actually,
I would like to get a look at UK TV schedules. it may work in Canada,
since I think they use a 5 digit zip code.

navigate using the JAWS table navigation hotkeys. In general, they
are Alt + Control + Arrow keys. It can be set to view up to 6 hours
at a time.

My scripts are at:

http://mysite.verizon.net/marangs/DirecTV.html

There is just so much stuff in the world that, to me, is devoid of any
real substance, value, and content that I just try to make sure that I
am working on things that matter.

section. Once you set up all of your information, it is extremely
easy to use.

This is in regard of the recent thread about some of us being old timers
myself included BTW. A couple of us who monitor these lists have been
receiving private messages from people complaining about the way things
have been handled. Personally my opinion is that it was handled quite
well. A young man made what he felt was an innocent comment and he got a
lot of flack for it from many of the members on here, again myself
included. We left the thread go for a couple of days just to lighten the
mood on here but yesterday I decided it was time to shut it down and get
back to the purpose of what this list is all about. Now I am getting
private messages that the guys are getting complaints that things were
heading in a racial or ethnic direction. This I can state for a fact is
not, never has been, or never will be an issue on any list I have a hand
in monitoring. I can't control private messages any of you might send to
each other but so far as what comes over this forum that's another story.

I do this because I feel it is something that needs to be done. People in
my opinion need a safe place where they can ask for help without fear of
being insulted or criticized for not knowing a particular fact of
computing. I started JAWS Users with Bob almost five years ago and Rick
joined us about six months later, together the three of us have weathered
some pretty big storms again just because we all feel it is something
that simply needs to be done.

The only thing we get out of it is the satisfaction that we are doing
something that is helping out a lot of people or at least we'd like to
think so. Honestly there are days when I think that playing electronic
golf or enjoying the out side world listening to my Victor Reader seem
pretty enticing. Some day we may shut it down although we are not
planning on it at the present time.

I need Rick and Bob to help me run these lists and if they get tired of
doing it I'm not doing them alone, they are just too big. So no more
private messages to either of them. I'm the guy who's name is on the door
so to speak.

Subject: [Blind-Computing] Some Useful utilities

 Hi everyone,

I'm not sure whether these are on the programs list, but I just think
they might help someone out there using any version of Windows starting
from XP to 7.

The first one of these is called Belvedere. It is used to organise your
files into folders. Or let me say it is used to create rules in your
documents just as you do with message rules. You can create as many
rules on one folder or have many folders on a single rule. For example,
you can schedule to clean your downlload folder after every five days,
or even to have that download folder stripped off its files soon after
any download completion. You can also decide to arrange files into
subfolders in your My Documents folder in a way based on their
extensions. This helps you organise your content when preparing
assignments, examinations -- the list is endless.

Well, the other one is called System Protect. This one can even run on
64-bit systems. It is to protect your sensitive documents from
accidental deletions or whatever. You just add your precious documents
(as files or folders) and when you try to delete them, the program will
not allow this. This runs as a service and you can only delete your
protected files after you turn off the service or else manually remove
the protected files from settings. I think it is helpful in situations
whereby some malware may choose to modify your applications without your
knowledge.

That's enough ranting for now:

Now the problem is I no longer know where I got these utilities, so if
you're interested in these, contact me off list or else any of the list
moderators (Rick or David) who can just place them on the Blind
Computing/JawsUsers Programs list.

Otherwise it's cheery for everybody and a peaceful weekend!

Ishe

David,

I'm wondering if this is like cable or is it a dsl?

For my cable for instance, on the advance setting is the defaults since
time warner doesn't use this and it's 25/110.
on the server tab settings is, pop.tx.rr.com and smtp.tx.rr.com

if it's dsl that might use what ATT used on the advance tab of, 465 in the
first box with the security box checked, 995 in the second box and also
check the security box, it's optional if they want to keep a copy of
messages on the server weather to check this box or not on this same page.

pop.optonline.net

Yes, the MSE program will work with you're jaws and xp, however, I
believe you'll need to have service pack3.

Microsoft Security Essentials and save yourself a lot of headaches. It
just works and is very accessible.

External hard drives offer outstanding speed as backup devices and avoid
the disc-swapping that plagues users who back up to CD or DVD. However, if
you leave your backup drive turned on and plugged into your PC all the
time, you place your backups at risk of being contaminated by viruses,
worms, or other malware. Turn off your external hard drive when not in
use. Click the green arrow icon in the System Tray first to tell Windows
to safely shut down its connection to the drive so no unwritten data will
be lost in transit.

The first sites to try are Facebook and Twitter. On Facebook, you can
enter your high school and college info, and get a list of classmates who
graduated in your class. That's how I tracked down some old high school
classmates I haven't had contact with in over 40 years.

Dear Kim,
Oh yes!

Vert, it was later called Soft Vert!
Nice simple program!

But it was just the software to make the hardware work, and one could use
Accent, Echo,Votrax, oh, so many different ones.
I remember you could purchase a Echo sound card from Radio Shack for about
$80 and then you could use a computer without sight!

Big difference now with JAWS almost a thousand dollars!

And those 5 and 1/2 inch floppy disks, that held 362 K of data!
LOL!

I can hardly believe it!

In 1985, I purchased an external hard drive, to go with my IBM PC.
It was 30 MB!

It cost $900
Can you believe that?

I have single cuts of music that are larger than 30 MB!
and my T-Drives cost about $79 each!

LOL!

Don,

The same people who makes Replay Media Catcher also offer Replay A/V
(audio video). I use it to record various audio on the Internet. It does
allow you to set it up to start up at a specified time for the specific
duration you choose. You can check it out at:

I hope that this is what you are ;looking for?

Hi all.
I use Replay Media Catcher from www.applian.com. Version 3 is very
accessible and allows you to capture any audio or video you stream on
the internet. I use it to capture videos from Youtube etc. I am
currently running it in its demonstration mode, and might as well stick
with it, as capturing Youtube videos is done in full whilst other videos
are only done in half. Replay Media Catcher has a conversion tool, so
you can safely convert your videos to MP3 or other formats if you wish.

I hope I am making sense here. Hope this helps.

I remember taking a computer class in the mid 80s, and we used a huge
computer and two floppy disks and we used a speech program called Vert

Has anyone heard of that speech synthesizer? I thought that class was so

Learning Doss and all of those commands.
What memories.

Then at home Karen won an 8088 Packard Bell xt computer. With that system
I used jaws for dos. I believe that in the mid 1980s is when I purchased
jaws for windows 1 for windows 3.0. At that time I hated windows and still

the larger IBM mainframes. The first computer that I worked on was an RCA

On these systems I had to write my own read /write macros and multiply and
divide routines. That was a lot of fun.
For the ITS, it was the world's first talking computer linked to an IBM

started receiving calls from all around the world inquiring about it.

Encryption is the an important feature to enable on a wireless network.
When you set up a wireless network in your operating system, be sure to
turn on the strongest encryption format that your router and wireless
adapters all support.
Currently, WPA2 (Wi-Fi Protected Access 2) provides the best protection
for consumer wireless networking products. WPA is still useful, although
it's been proven vulnerable. And WEP (Wired Equivalent Privacy) is no
longer considered safe, but it's better than nothing.

Choose an encryption passphrase (password) of at least eight mixed letters

Hello all,
Are you fed up of remembering to check the time on your computer? Fear
no more!
I am trialling a program called Steve's Talking Clock. It's a very small
program. It sits in your system tray. Once installed all you do is
configure to your personal taste, click a button, and it will just sit
their announcing the time at regular intervals. On my setup I have set
it so the voice it comes with speaks the time every 15 minutes.
I am thinking of buying the program myself as it's only £8 in UK
currency. So quite cheap for a program that comes with an awesome voice
and awesome sounds. You can also download other voices, and even create
your own!
So if you want to check it out, you can download and install it from
http://clock.steve-audio.net. Without a license it will run as a fully
functional 15 day trial.
Enjoy!

Hi Matthew,

If you mean the K-lite codec i sent yesterday. It is Me Hamid H a m i d.
I know most screen readers pronounce my name like hannah. Hamid is an
arabic name for males not females.

Now back to the player. After installing it, find under your start
menu/all programs, a submenu called K-lite codec pack. Open it with your
right arrow or enter and locate media player clasic and hit enter. Of
course it is preferable if you assign a hotkey to this item for quicker
launching.

After the program is loaded, you can use the keystrokes I included
yesterday, find them coppied below. One you would need now is control+q to
open a file or control+d to open a DVD. Another useful keystroke i forgot
to mention yesterday is Control or alt+page down or page up to jump to
the next or previous file respectively if for example you have many open
files. Of course some keystrokes would be unavailable until a file is
open.

SpaceBar = Play/pause
Period = stop
Control+Right arrow = Forward 5 seconds
Control+Left arrow = rewind 5 seconds
Up Arrow = increase volume
Down arrow = decrease volume
Control+m = mute
Control+Q = quick open
Control+O = open
Control+D = open DVD
Control+C = close open file or files
Control+5 = toggles the status bar
JawsKey+PageDown = read status bar, it contains info about the file's
duration, the elapsed time and the active control.

O = program options

Good luck!

Hi Kim,

Only a few hours ago, i sent a brief review about a program i use to play
my DVDs and files. I hope it will work for you. If you haven't got the
message I sent this very morning, here is a copy of it below! Good luck!

Hi all,

As promised, here is a program that is a great alternative for RealPlayer.
It is pretty accessible and can play too many formats. The program is
called

K-Lite Mega Codec
I just wanted to add something that i forgot to mention in my previous
E-mail. When you launche the program, some versions of jaws will start
chattering nonstop. That's because Jaws captures the slider that shows the
time and starts reading it. You just need to modify jaws behavior by
setting the screen echo to none in stead of highlighted for this
particular application.

The link will be available only for 5 days, I then can resend it if any
one needs it:

Click here to download K-Lite mega codec!
http://files.123envoi.com/get_1405.php?cen=37-43384-90be877cfr=66958-e25d

Follows some useful keystrokes:

SpaceBar = Play/pause
Period = stop
Control+Right arrow = Forward 5 seconds
Control+Left arrow = rewind 5 seconds
Up Arrow = increase volume
Down arrow = decrease volume
Control+m = mute
Control+Q = quick open
Control+O = open
Control+D = open DVD
Control+C = close open file or files
Control+5 = toggles the status bar
JawsKey+PageDown = read status bar, it contains info about the file's
duration, the elapsed time and the active control.

O = program options

Good luck!

If TinySpell bangs, then press the CTRL+semicolon. A list will pop up with

But I find that this keystroke may sometimes cause problems with MS Office

Hello all,
I have been encouraged to pass the following news story. This is so
tragic. I hope you don't do the same with your laptop or netbook.

You may have heard that a good friend of ours in Mequon lost their 25
year old son (Arun Gopal Ratnam) in a fire at home June 4th. This is
what happened. He graduated with MBA from University of
Wisconsin-Madison two weeks earlier and came home. Had a lunch with his
dad at home and decided to go back to to clean up his room at school.
Father told him to wait and see his mother before he goes back for a few
days. He decided to take a snooze while waiting for his mom to come home
from work.

Neighbors called 911 when they saw black smoke coming out of the house.
Their 25 year old son Arun died in the three year old house. It took
several days of investigation to find out the cause of the fire. It was
determined that the fire was caused by a lap top in the bed. When the
lap top is on the bed the cooling fan does not get air to cool the
computer and that is what caused the fire. He did not even wake up to
get out of the bed he: died of carbon monoxide.

The reason I am writing this to all of you is that I have seen all of us
using our lap top in bed. Let us all decide and make it a practice not
to do that. Risk is real. Let us make it a rule not to use lap top in
bed or put computer on bed with blankets and pillows around.

 Hello all,

I just want to tell you about an interesting new screen reader made by
German company Baum. It's called Cobra (I know, it's named after a
snake,

hahaha). Joking aside, it contains lots of interesting and inovative
features, such as the ability to capture the screen and perform on the
fly
OCR. No other screen reader I know does this. You can download it, and
try
it as a 30 minute reboot situation from www.baum.com. What's
interesting

though is that although a reboot is necessary to run the 30 minute
demonstraiton again, Cobra actually will still speak, but will
interrupt and

remind you that the demo has expired. Again no other screen reader does
this.
Enjoy!

Store A Laptop Battery:

For prolonged storage, charge your battery to about 40% and place it in
the refrigerator (not the freezer). Be sure to allow it to warm up to room
temperature before use in order to avoid condensation; otherwise moisture
on the battery might get into your notebook. If you have a spare battery,
use one normally and store the other in the refrigerator until it's
needed.

Kim,

In the case of a flashing or blinking light, does the probe
give intermittent audible beeps to indicate such versus a
solid tone to indicate a light that stays on?

Yes, that is so true. We have a modem from Clearwire and all
five lights
need to be blinking before we have a strong signal.
Rich has a light probe and it works perfect.
We also use it for lights in the house if they are left on
or not and that
probe is a life saver especially when you are paying the
electric bill.

Hi All;

Here is a tip I ran across on another list that I thought

might come in

handy for a lot of us.

Dealing with lights on your router, modem or other device.

hi folks, thought of this a while back, and then saw this

post and

realized
I was right, it will work, so passed it along! elf -

For Lisa and others who may be concerned with knowing the

status of

indicator lights on a router or modem, I can determine

which lights are

on,
off, or blinking with a light probe. Independent Living

aids has one for

twenty-three dollars and change. They work well for a

number of things. I

use my probe to tell me about the lights on various

cooking devices such

as
a rice cooker, foreman grill, and many other things. It

will find lights

on
those little cube shaped power supplies that plug into the

wall; the

blinking light on the victor stream; the light on the

computer speakers;

and a host of other things I can't bring to mind just now.

Just a

thought.
Lois Goodine.

Hope this helps. Take care.
Mike
