Re: [OSL | CCIE_Voice] CCIE_Voice Digest, Vol 88, Issue 36

2013-06-05 Thread Larry Stern
This is awesome news still holding my breath till it becomes official on the
Cisco's website, I am now even prouder to be part of this community, a group of
people who articulated so well what was wrong, and gave all the right reasons
why it should be corrected.

I got many grey hairs the past week.

Just got this in my email:

Hi All, Great news! Cisco has made the following announcement: "We are
listening to the feedback from our valued CCIE community, and will be adjusting
the
https://learningnetwork.cisco.com/community/certifications/ccie_collaborationCCIE
Collaboration requirements. As a quick preview of the evolution of the CCIE
Collaboration certification, a current holder of the
https://learningnetwork.cisco.com/community/certifications/ccie_voice CCIE
Voice designation will now be able to migrate to a CCIE Collaboration
credential by taking the CCIE Collaboration written exam only. We appreciate
all of the great feedback and patience of the community while we update our
webpages to reflect this change. We will be communicating further details about
this modification as soon as possible."

Just my personal experience when I failed my first lab attempt. CUE is at
the forefront of the time waster. Simply because it requires constant
reboot if mistake is made and every reboots take a long time too.

>> 10 ) CUE integration and trafer setup takes 20 mins

My brain seems to go numb at times too. Simple stuff becomes a lot harder, and
I still looking back on the day as how on earth I miss that easy fix.
Not saying that without it I would pass, I just think I wouldn't the thoroughly
outclassed by it.

Also make sure in CUC, under phone system AXL server you have 5.0 or greater
checked and in CUCM under system TAB Application server do you have the CUC
there.

[OSL | CCIE_Voice] Connection off net messages

2012-02-19 Thread Larry Stern
Yes
A bunch of us are experiencing this, I am currently doing new lab 3, and
running into the same. At first I thought it was sip integration only, but sccp
does the same. I believe Vic addressed it as some kind of bug, but have to look
through the blog emails to confirm.

[OSL | CCIE_Voice] Cbarge SRST w/ auto provision all

2012-02-15 Thread Larry Stern
In my case I could not ever get Cbarge in SRST to work, specifically Lab 1 of
the new 5 lab Handbook Question 9.2.
Hardware conference is registered to SC and Conf works fine. But when you hit
the busy shared line and depress
Cbarge, on SC PH2, you get dial tone as if a new call is to be made. I hard
coded the privacy off on the ephones and even reloaded afterwards. I am not on
a rack now but also tried this at work with the same result. See below.
Now that I think about it, is it possible I need hunstop channel on the shared
DN??

[OSL | CCIE_Voice] Query wrt to Cbarge on BR1 router

2012-02-15 Thread Larry Stern
FYI
One of the new 5 labs I think one or two, asks to preserve cbarge when in SRST
utilizing SRST auto provision all, I could never get this working either, had a
couple of others on the blog try it with the same result. Any others see the
same??

I don't see the restriction in OWLE lab #2.

The HA question 7.1 states "? You should ensure that all learned ephones
and ephone-dn?s appear in the running config to achieve this task."

This indicates srst mode auto-provision all which is required for cBarge
preservation since privacy needs to be disabled at the ephone level.

Let me know the details of the lab and question number and I'll try and clear
it up- but nonetheless- you are correct in what you have stated- you cannot
preserve cBarge with call-manager-fallback

Thanks

Hi Bruno,

The command "paramspace callsetup after-hours-exempt true" is only when there
is a call with that dial-peer as incoming leg, and then going out of another
dial-peer.
basically when you have call coming from somewhere else like CUCM, then
choosing as incoming leg dialpeer one with that command, and going out by
another dialpeer that has a pattern that is blocked.

If you want to allow one patter, it should be NOT included in the blocked
patter range. in another words, you will have to be more exact on your block
pattern.
for example, don't put just 0, put 0

hope this helps,

Cheers,

[OSL | CCIE_Voice] QOS LFI and BACD

2012-02-07 Thread Larry Stern
For your second sub interface I would assign bandwidth 1536, also if you don't
want to build a map class for the second interface you can assign the bandwidth
1536 and let auto-qos do the rest.

BACD
In the lab you have access to the CME Docs, it is here where you can find the
BACD doc and cli commands.

  Hello,
   1. QOS question

According to Vic, if you configure LFI for a subinterface in a hub and spoke
environment, Your second sub interface will dopes its CIR to 56k. To solve this
issue you should configure map-class for the second interface as well. I have
tested this and confirmed the problem and the solution.

But if the interface bandwidth is not given to you, then in what rate do you
configure the second map-class? What should be your CIR and MinCIR bandwidth?

2. BACD question

will it be possible that the lab requirement will be to configure BACD without
giving you direct access to the BACD files? If the above scenario happen then
how would you copy the files into the router. I am thinking to use CUCM. But
can you even go to Cisco?s website and download BACD tar file during the exam?
Any suggestion?

Hi all

First of all, let me clarify that I am not trying to break NDA or trying to
sell anything here, just something I cant get my head around with.

I just had my second attmpt yesterday, and I failed. What really demoralising
for me is that I thought I was fully prepared. What even more demoralising is
that when I looked at the score card, I didnt get 100% in the area I thought I
would get a 100%.

I dont mean to say I know it all (especially now), but there are areas on my
score card that really shocks me. As I read through the exam, I know what the
questions were requiring (at least I thought I did). For example, we all know
that the topics of DHCP, NTP, VLAN will be in the network infrastructure area.
And what could go wrong in those areas? I mean, if you dont setup those area
correctly, all your subsequence config will has problem right? But yet, I dont
get full marks in those. Similarly the gateway area, QoS area etc.

Right now I am pretty lost as to what I can prepare or study on, or at least
how to check my config? I know this sounds really bad (or arrogent) but I
really have no idea as how to confirm the config I did can get the full mark in
those area.

I guess I am hoping if someone that share their strategy as to how to confirm
their work is good or fulfilled the requirement?

hope that makes sense?

[OSL | CCIE_Voice] Phone Label SRST

2012-01-12 Thread Larry Stern
Yes it is normal, it puts the e164 number in as the description under the
ephone-dn. I guess the only way you can modify it is if using auto provision
all or auto provision dn in SRST. Or possibly using a SRST DN Template.

But when the SIP Phones goes to SRST, then the Line Label is passed on over the
SRST.

Is it normal?

[OSL | CCIE_Voice] Cue Wizard Authentication

2011-12-30 Thread Larry Stern
Randall
What a coincidence Only yesterday on my Pod I had the exact same issue, I
never resolved it as I was spending too much tine on it, I skipped the Wizard
(this was an option on the GUI). Either we are both overlooking the same thing
or perhaps it is a specific cue issue and we both had the same pod. I have done
this procedure many times without this issue. I am making the assumption you
were using a plabs pod?? I can't remember what Pod I had but can look it up
later.

[OSL | CCIE_Voice] IOS version proctorlabs routers

2011-12-28 Thread Larry Stern
What is the downfall if you cut and paste everything using the minimum sccp ccm
version 5.0 which all plab routers IOS supports. I have never had a problem
doing this.

[OSL | CCIE_Voice] Lab 7a workbook1

2011-12-03 Thread Larry Stern
When using physical phones and a hardware VPN on plabs racks. To simulate SRST
I make a a call manager group that has Pub only. I then put this group into
let's say the BR1 device pool (assuming you want to put BR1 into SRST). I then
shut off the call manager service for the Pub. This works for me the best.

When the IP Phones are placed in a differnet subnet (where the CUCME cannot
authenticate based on MAC address) we have to use the Username and Passwords
for Authentication.

Re: [OSL | CCIE_Voice] 5 New labs what to watch for!!!

2011-11-27 Thread Larry Stern
I also found in my rack 33, the pstn line 3 for calling number only sends 408
I had to modify this in the PSTN router

 rule 2 from
/^\(408\)8397263$ to /^408\(8397263)/ /\1/.
Try typing that fast on an IPAD(lol)
This was for lab 1and 2.

Guys I have been working on the new (5) labs mostly 1-3 since they have the
guide. Here is what i have found to be things to watch for and fixes,

Please note i have been working on these for over 10 days and it's the same
every time it is just the way the integration was done for the VM images
purposely or not.

 1. There are some typos you will see reference to 011916745738931 but if you
try to call that number it is not available true number is 011916745738931
 2. There are some others name of routers in guide not always right when you
look for solutions so just make sure you note what router you are working on. I
think this is mainly because of copy and pasting from one lab to another etc
since some things are similar but devices are different.
 3.  UCCX integration;

* rmjtapi app-user is not configured > add rmjtapi > add phones and cti
enable
* make sure pwds match on CCX and CUCM for jtapi_1 and rmjtapi
* from CCX run sync and restart engine
* You may have to re-sync a couple of times

 1. the "T" flag is not set so the CUCM never sees that the CCX is integrated
you have to do a manual step to get this up and running so you can add the UCCX
extension to users,

* run this command on the CUCM Pub as stated in earleir emails > run sql
update processconfig set paramvalue="T" where paramname like '%nstalled%'
* NO need to reload it takes affect right away

 1. CUC - I have had to reload the CUC server every time for MWIs and to be
able to leave message... This one I am not sure why I have no fix other than to
restart the server.
 2. CUE - As noted in labs WB and Guide you will need to change licenses
depending on the lab you are working on.
 3. Lab 2 CCXquestion there is a step missing in the script. a generated
prompt of zero calls ahead of you when you are the only one in queue = you do
need the decrement step (thanks larry)

If i recall or run into any more items of interest i will post back i am in
last 5 days of prep and will be concentrating on the labs

Re: [OSL | CCIE_Voice] CCIE_Voice Digest, Vol 69, Issue 191

2011-11-27 Thread Larry Stern
Randall
I had the same exact problem with New Lab 1, after I ran the SQL command from
the cucm cli, This fixed the not showing of the IPCC extension field on my
cucm enduser page, but after an hour or so of reverting, resyncing uccx I never
got rmjtapi to show in CUCM as an application user. I tried adding it manually
into CUCM , and then resyncing UCCX, still ng. Finally moved on.

Hi Ash
Thanks for the reply ,I turned off the built-in bridge but was still getting
the error ,I then realised I had Locations CAC set from previous part of the
lab and that this was causing the cbarge to fail. Working now.
Thanks

Hey Rynard ,

as you are using Cbarge , there is no need for Built in Bridge , you will need
have the privacy off and the barge method as Cbarge from the phones pages ,
reset the phone and check the behavior ( make sure that you will have conf
brigde available for the phones inside your MRGL

[OSL | CCIE_Voice] HQ to BR1 Netwok Congestion

2010-07-14 Thread larry Stern

Hi all
I just got done with Vol 1 Lab 7A, (Media Resources) using PL.
Whenever BR1 phones called HQ phones I would get "Network congestion
rerouting" and AAR would be invoked, this LAB has nothing to do with AAR
but Ichecked Locations and everything is set to unlimited Bandwidth, I
also checked PL router configs and Bandwidth was set for 1536 on HQ and
768 on BR1, what else would cause this. I almost spend 2.5 hours on
this?. I was using EZVPN with my own 2800 ISR router and 7961 phones. I
probably should have hit up PL support but wanted to try and figure it
out.

Thanks
Larry

[OSL | CCIE_Voice] Vol2 Final Configs Folders Labs 1-4

2010-01-14 Thread larry Stern
On the downloaded files from IP Expert, I noticed in the folder Labeled
VOL2 configs, once unzipped and opened all the final config folders are
blank for LABS 1-4, LAB 5 does contain a final config, any reason for
this or is this just an oversite?.

Thanks
Larry
