Owen, join the BETA project. Both Allaire and now Macromedia take
suggestions seriously. At the moment only Studio is in bet (or RC1 now) but
it is coming along really well - thanks to us beta users making suggestions.

I wish Macromedia would create a new CF tag ...

CFInsert and 100%CPU bug

2001-09-26 Thread Tristram Charnley

I know Allaire denied it ever existed but in some circumstances
CFUPDATE and CFINSERT can cause a 100%CPU usage problem.

I'm wondering if anyone who has experienced this has solved
it by applying CF4.5 Service pack or moving to CF5.0

I'm hoping to avoid the hassle of replacing 15 lines of code
with an approx 140 lines in a CFQUERY

Hi Bruce,

How do I retrieve the information on the file that was clicked on the
test.cfm page and pass that to the template.cfm
to compare for a match and then pull the information from the array.

I can't seem to get the Session.stDirFileName[menuSelection] to work?

Output from test.cfm page

[3] file1.dat
[4] file2.dat
[5] file3.dat
[6] file4.dat

Output from other template.cfm page

[1] .

[3] file1.dat

[5] file3.dat
[6] file4.dat
[7] file5.dat

CFPOP and Header Issue

2001-09-26 Thread Guy McDowell

Long time no inquire...

Situation:

Using CFPOP to retrieve messages, then validating the messages are from
registered users. If so, then the message is forwarded via cfmail to the
rest of the registered users.

Problem:

Using the 'header' or 'from' variable from cfpop and comparing the 'from'
field to the e-mail field in the membership db doesn't always work. This is
due to apps like MS Outlook allowing you to change the 'from' portion of
your header to a non e-mail format. ie Guy McDowell instead of

Attempted Solutions:

Tried using IP as unique identifier as well, however IP's often change each
time the user signs on to their ISP.

Given:

Using Spectra and CF 4.5

Bueller? Bueller? Anyone?

Guy J. McDowell

RE: Updating a multiple select box dynamically. question?

2001-09-26 Thread Paul Ihrig

nope that didn't work.
it will still only show 1 select but not more then that.

could it have some thing to do with that
Consultant_Types_ID.Consultant_Types_ID is a number
where Edit.Consultant_Types_ID is text?

i needed to make that field text so i could insert multiple numbers like
43, 2, 56 et.

Very simple. Very simple. Take a quick backup of stuff before you upgrade and follow
the steps. It shouldn't take very long either.

There are a series of SERVER. variables that store various information
about the Server. Among them might be what you are looking for.

Yes there are null values but the db will accept them, and
I've also set default params.

I'll investigate the ODBC drivers, though. But doesn't the CF install
update these?

RE: Determine current version

2001-09-26 Thread Stephen Galligan

Hi there,

In Coldfusion output these:
Returns product name: #Server.Coldfusion.ProductName#
Returns version number and if any service packs applied:
#Server.Coldfusion.ProductVersion#
Returns which type of product, either professional or enterprise:
#Server.Coldfusion.ProductLevel#

OS name:#Server.OS.Name#
OS service packs applied: #Server.OS.AdditionalInformation#
OS version eg. 4.0 if running NT4: #Server.OS.Version#

You can also find out your OS info in the registry:
At key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\WindowsNT\ CurrentVersion.
Current Version key for the OS version
CSDVersion key for the service pack version

Re: Why can't application.cfm...

2001-09-26 Thread Trishan Singh

That is exactly correct.
If you want to limit the access of the rest of the file you will need to do
it via the IIS Manager or MMC i believe it has a section of the allowed file
types... The reason you have to do it from there is that Colf Fusion is not
a webserver but rather a Application for the webserver. The webserver is
the one responsible for the content and what file are transferred. I have
done this one time so if you need detailed help i can see if that project
site is still around,

Hope that helps,

Re: Hiermenus v4.1 - http://www.dhtmlab.com/ and ColdFusion

2001-09-26 Thread Nick Crossland

Hi

I have used Hiermenus with Cold Fusion (on a dev server at the moment, not live yet).

I have made the HM_Arrays.js file dynamic by:
1) Changing its name to HM_Arrays.cfm
2) Changing the reference to it at the bottom of HM_loader.js so it says .cfm and not
.js
3) Put a at the top of the HM_Arrays.cfm file.

In will now let you use CFOUTPUTs, or whatever CF you like in the menu structure!

RE: Check out what Gartner is recommending. Drop IIS!

2001-09-26 Thread Neil Clark

Replace IIS with whatever you want - but you have to see it this way - if
something goes tits-up; Microsoft will and can help - the Apache group will
simply lull in its little "oh we hate Microsoft world"

On a side note I really wish people would stop coming down on Microsoft (and
no I am not a MS employee...but I have just had a meeting with total anti-MS
spods and its feking p-ed me off...) They spend $ Millions on development
and these nonces simply just dismiss things as useless but the Microsoft
people are FAR FAR MORE intelligent than these Open Source chaps and
chapesses.

The truth of it is, most "New Media" work requires Windows Based software -
Apple has its place but as unstable as it is, cant be seriously considered
as an alternative...far far to unstable.

Sorry just livid at these muppets that dont understand development time over
cost price - jeex, I thank a company which spends $ millions on development
and you have to part with what oh! $1k of your dollars/pounds/whatever!...
not exactly a hard trade off

just my $0.02 and it does take peoples mind off the ongoing nonsense and
diabacle :-)

Converting data types

2001-09-26 Thread W Luke

Hi,

I need to add a list of currency data types outputted from a table, from a
field called #amount#. The currency format is UK Pound. I'm not too
familiar with the locale functions with CF, but think this is what I need
for a basic addition of currency values. Could someone confirm this, and if
possible supply an example of how I'd go about it?

I tried the following embarassingly wrong code...

Any advice much appreciated.

Now which file would the default.cfm call whether the

So the teacher info is buried in another template. What's the best way to

i have a custom tag named textinput in custom tags
directory.I am calling the custom tag from a
default.cfm file from webroot folder. The webroot
folder also has a file named textinput.cfm.
Now which file would the default.cfm call whether the
file in webroot folder or in custom tags directory.

Or in other words what is the precedence in calling
custom tags.

Any documentation reference is highly appreciated.

Microsoft only has so many developers when the open source world pulls from
unlimited numbers of developers all with there own backgrounds and
experience to add. In addition to that, everyone is freely avaiable to
review the source code, so you get many more eyes catching bugs or
potentialy exploits.

Most of the motion picture industry in moving/moved in the linux direction.
Dreamworks and ILM are now running linux for workstations and there

I think one of the main problems with IIS is that most windows systems are
easy to configure, so you get people who probably just got an MCSE from some
internet site and don't really know how to secure there a windows machine
properly.

RE: SQL Server 2K

2001-09-26 Thread Alex Santantonio

Not much trouble at all. I just recently upgraded 3 servers from various
installs of SQL 7 with many different configurations, SP's and such. All 3
went smoothly. When you upgrade, you will need to attach the old databases
to the new server, and any clients you upgrade will lose their registered
servers in the MMC. You will just need to make a list of the servers you
have registered. Also, in SQL 2K you can either leave the old database
files where they are, or you can copy them to the new location and then
attach them from there. If you do this, then you can get rid of your entire
SQL 7 install so you have no more dormant files. I was surprised at how
smooth it went. One issue I had was the tendency for SQL2K to change its
default port from 1433 for TCP/IP since there was already SQL 7 on that port
(at least I think that is the reason). I just had to go in through the
Server Network Utility and set it manually. That was a little confusing at
first since I just couldn't connect through my firewall on the given port,
but once I realized it wasn't even connecting on that port, it was an easy
fix. Hope this helps.

Re: Absolute Path Usage

2001-09-26 Thread Bruce Holm

I did ask them to set up CFMappings for me and they did. My comments about
they wouldn't set up mappings was focused on them setting up a "/" mapping.
That would not be possible on a shared CF server.

Anyway I had them set up some custom (for me) mappings and they work
beautifully!
Thanks to all for your help!

CyberCash to VeriSign

2001-09-26 Thread Kamie Curfman

One of my clients just received the below notice yesterday from
VeriSign:

"IMPORTANT CYBERCASH MIGRATION NOTICE:
Our records show that you are currently registered to process payments
through the CyberCash payment gateway.

Your account is currently scheduled for migration to VeriSign's Payflow
(SM) service on or after October 2, 2001.

As highlighted in earlier communications, VeriSign is in the process of
migrating its CyberCash customers to VeriSign's Payflow payment gateway
services. When this effort is complete, Internet credit card
transactions from your Web site will be processed through the Payflow
service. No changes are required to your merchant account, or your
credit card processor/bank and we do not anticipate any significant
changes to your Web site integration. We intend to make this transition
as simple and seamless for you as possible. When the integration is
complete, you will need to begin using VeriSign's Payflow Manager to
manage all new transactions instead of the CyberCash E-Commerce Services
Manager. We believe that you will find Payflow Manager easy to use with
comprehensive features that will meet your business requirements now and
in the future..."

The rest of the email simply instructs the customer to some of the ins
and outs of Payflow Manager.

My question to the group: Has any developer out there had to make any
programming changes as a result of the switch? The "we do not
anticipate any significant changes to your Web site integration" phrase
does not exactly comfort me, nor does the "on or after October 2, 2001"
part. We currently are utilizing the CFX_CyberCash custom tag for all
of our CyberCash clients. Will we need to change this or will this tag
continue to work after the transition? In short, is there anything I
need to do between now and the 2nd?

Any experience anyone has had with this switch would be most
appreciated. Thanks.

Kamie

RE: Updating a multiple select box dynamically. question?

2001-09-26 Thread Greg Luce

I've accomplished the task by doing this, it displays the selected
values first in the list:

(First loop over the existing values for "linemaintenanceplanes" and
display them.)

#i#

(Then loop over the entire list of planes, and display them only if they
aren't in the list of "selected planes")

#misc1#

It seemed to fit the bill when you have a huge list also, so you don't
need to scroll through all 100 just to see what you have "selected"
already.

CFDIRECTORY replacements

2001-09-26 Thread Bruce Holm

My hosting company for my domain disables several CF tags for security
reasons due to the server being shared. These include CFDIRECTORY and
CFFILE.

What replacements and workarounds do you use if you have the same type
of limitation?

My hosting company already has "installed" the custom tags CFX_DIRECTORY
and CFX_FILE (both version 1) and they don't work, either because they
were installed wrong on the host server or because the tags don't
actually work.

Re: Passing the results from the

Using the session-scoped structure gives you the ability to transfer the
CFDIRECTORY results to the other template. What you ask about now is how to
use the selection made to index into this structure.

I would have to see the code you use to create the menus. As I recall,
those menus you pop up are done in JaveScript. I already told you I'm not a
JS expert. Someone else on the list may be able to help out but post your
code snippet (JS) on the list and ask the question.

What I do know about JS is that you need your JS function that manages the
menu item selection to return the value of the item selected. I would use
an integer value and then directly use it to index into the structure key
list.

nope that didn't work.
it will still only show 1 select but not more then that.

could it have some thing to do with that
Consultant_Types_ID.Consultant_Types_ID is a number
where Edit.Consultant_Types_ID is text?

i needed to make that field text so i could insert multiple numbers like
43, 2, 56 et.

query/information display help

2001-09-26 Thread Bruce, Rodney

Hello all

I have a table that links when two pieces of equipment have been tested with
each other:

Equipmentid1Equipmentid2 Testid
 1 3 1
 1 4 2
 3 5 3

I need to pull this information to be displayed in a table, with the
equipment names displayed across the top and left side (same list for both).
Then the testid to be displayed within the table were the row/columns meet
of the tested equipment.

Problems:
1. How to leave a blank were no test id goes (i.e. equipment 1 was not
tested with equipment 2).
2. Do display testid for both pieces of equipment. The testid for
equipment 1 & 3 should be displayed twice, once in equipment 1's row and
once in equipment 3's row.

Something like this:

Equip1 Equip2 Equip3 Equip4 Equip5
Equip1 1 2
Equip2
Equip3 1 3
Equip4 2
Equip53

Right now all the tests ids are being displayed but with no blanks.
and the test for equipment 1 & 3 is only being listed on equipment 1's row.
I'm getting this:

Equip1 Equip2 Equip3 Equip4 Equip5
Equip1 1 2
Equip2
Equip3 3
Equip4
Equip5

Can anyone help
thanks

Found a weird bug in Coldfusion to do with files ending in
"Application.cfm". I have a file called "AccountApplication.cfm" and
when called, it produces the "Invalid Request of APPLICATION.CFM or
ONREQUESTEND.CFM File" error.

>>CF doesn't allow you to directly call application.cfm

>>Not sure about the other error - try renaming it to AccountApp.cfm.

Now, if I directly call Application.cfm thru Coldfusion I get the above
error, but I shouldn't get it with files ending in application.cfm.

Anyone seen this bug before, know of a workaround (besides renaming the
file) or something?

Thanks,

XML-XSL-CF_SOXML

2001-09-26 Thread Timur Catakli

Hi everybody,
my question is simple :
I have an XML and a XSL file.
XSL file is formatted in a way that it outputs HTML tags.
I am using CF_SOXML custom tag to transform the XSL file into a CF file.

But whenever I do that, the transformation returns XSL tags. I checked
http://forums.siteobjects.com for a solution but couldn't find anything. I
am using MSXML 2.0+.
So my question is (which was simple, remember) :
What are other ways to transform XML and XSL into HTML using Cold Fusion and
MSXML DOM object.
Are there other people that used SOXML and succeded ?

Thanks guys and have a great day. Bye

1. Talk to the hosting company and see if they'll rectify the problem

I know at my last full-time job, they had an SGI (Silicon Graphics I
forget what the I stands for) which was used for rendering 3D images. I
seem to remember the operating system being some UNIX variant; but I never
used the system myself.
I thought that the BE OS was a specialized (or optimized) OS for digital
media (such as touching up film on a movie) but once again I'm not an
expert here.
If by 'new media' you meant something on the web... I think that an end
resultant file that will run in Windows Media Player would be an ideal goal.

Re: Passing the results from the

Now I'm really confused.

All the javascript menu does is load different template files.

I need to pass the filename that the user clicks on from the list created
by the ...
and your array stuff to the template that the menu loads.

Attached is my code.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

RE: Calling Custom Tag

When you use

ColdFusion will look in the following locations in the respective order
listed:

1. The same directory as the calling page.
2. The first global custom tags directory (typically C:\CFUSION\CustomTags)
3. Any subdirectories within (2).
4. The second global custom tags directory, if there is one - CF 5 allows
you to add multiple global custom tag directories within CF Administrator,
CF 4 allows you to do this by editing the Registry directly.
5. Any subdirectories within (4).

If there are more than two global custom tag directories, repeat (4) and (5)
for each additional one.

In the calling page, are you closing the custom tag?

If so, you're executing the custom tag twice. When you close a custom tag,
it'll execute once for the opening tag, and once for the closing tag. Within
the custom tag, you can check the variable ThisTag.ExecutionMode - if it's
"start", you're executing the opening tag, and if it's "end", you're
executing the closing tag. So, you can simply add some conditional logic to
your custom tag to only send the mail once.

RE: Check out what Gartner is recommending. Drop IIS!

2001-09-26 Thread Costas Piliotis

You start off making some valid points. However.

Regarding patching: you're telling me there's never been an apache patch?
How about an iPlanet patch? And you can apply it without restarting any
daemons? Right. No Apache patches. Ever. They come perfect, right out of
the box, every time. I think they DO have patches, they just call them
REVISIONS.

Regarding reboot while patching IIS: three days out of 90. Not bad. One
day a month maintaining an IIS box. Big deal.

The TV analogy: Ever seen the watch that will serve as a remote control?
We still buy the tv. People can hack cell phone calls, yet we still used
them. Phone lines can be tapped, we still use the phone. My car got broken
into last week. The autobody shop said "Locks are meant to keep honest
people out". If someone wants in, really, they'll get in eventually. You
can't stop them. You can only make the effort to keep it difficult.

I like what they said in "the score": If Someone built it, it can be taken
apart. Don't for a second think that *nix is any more secure than WinBlows.

Nobody has forced you to accept "appalingly poor quality software simply
because the majority don't know". The majority DOES know I'm afraid. If
YOU don't like it, switch professions. Be thankful you have a job. I am.
Without this majority, there wouldn't be the need for IT professionals.
That's the way the world works. It's not like a virus has never been
written for *nix, or a worm, or a DoS attack, or bad code. It's a way of
life in IT.

I'm sorry - I've been avoiding it but I have to jump in here...

I keep reading on this list and others, and in so many news articles about
windows only being targeted because it's the most popular, and about it
being down to irresponsible admins etc etc. Both of these points are in
some ways valid, but to me these people seem to be missing the point.

Yes, less of this would happen if admins were responsible and used all
the latest patches etc etc. But what am I missing here -why is it nobody
seems to see that the entire concept of windows and iis patches is the
problem in the first place - we need to patch our servers because they are
a)in some places so pathetically coded and/or untested that they break down
and let all kinds of nonsecure access through and b)at development time it
is obviously decided that security is not cost effective to implement.

These worms are all aimed at the fact that explorer/iis/outlook let you
arbitrarily execute all kinds of foreign code or local commands without any
kind of checking or restraint whatsoever. And yes perhaps there are patches
for the majority of these - but they should never have been released
requiring those patches in the first place. Windows is targetted not purely
because of it's market share but because it makes possible the functions of
these worms. I don't agree with the idea that there are more windows based
hackers than unix based hackers - the thought is ludicrous - and it makes
little difference. You don't need any great level of expertise to write one
of these things, and as bad as the last year or two have become it's
astounding there aren't more of them. And still microsoft continues to
release software with these vulnerabilities coded into them - and we
continue to buy them.

Look at it this way, if someone made a television that did all the
normal stuff, but had an extra "feature" that let anyone arbitrarily connect
to it and start changing your channels, you'd never buy it. And if you'd
already bought it and later found out, you'd kick up an enormous stink. It
ought to be no different with software - especially software that's mission
critical and costs you large sums of money when it fails - not to mention
inadvertently hammering the daylights out of *other* people's software
without you being able to stop it.

These are just my opinions, but I'm seriously tired of the fact that we
who know better get forced to accept appalingly poor quality software simply
because the majority don't know or care what the problems are and follow the
upgrade paths dished out to them. We don't help this situation any when we
let these kind of arguments ride without pointing out the truth.

cheers,

Toby

I have an app that I don't want people backing up in. I've disabled the
tool bar, the right and middle mouse buttons, and all keypress

key will still work. The app sees the backspace keypress event and
calls the function, but when the user clicks OK on the alert box, the
app still backs up. Is there any way I can interrupt that process?

I haven't tried using this script specifically, but you should be able to
use it with CFFORM by simply using the PASSTHROUGH attribute to pass the
ONCLICK event handler information:

Re: Long client var in Oracle [was: WDDX]

Thanks! That looks good.

Do you figure this will work with client variables and writing right to the CDATA
table? Or would it be best to use a different table and not use CF's client variables?

I ask because if I manually write a variable to the CDATA table, then I wonder if CF
would just write over it when it saves all the client variables at the end of the page
request.

RE: help with selectthreerelated

2001-09-26 Thread Janine Jakim

No I know there aren't any periods/single quotes. However, it's a set text
field that has empty spaces. So if you look at the screen and see the
number 7666 and you run a query to find 7666 you'll come up blank unless you
put in the correct number of spaces before it. ie: -7666. Could that be
it? It's something I can't change because it comes from a separate
databasehmmm

If you have more than one value that should be selected, you should be
checking the current value that you're looping over against a list of
selected values. Let's assume that the list of selected values is contained
in a variable My_Consultant_Types_List. If so, you could use ListFind to
mark the appropriate items as selected:

Someone on another list said that the API is mostly unchanged. Support of
online check payments has been dropped, however.

Actually, that's not necessary. The MULTIPLE attribute of the HTML SELECT
tag is a Boolean attribute, and those don't require explicit values. There
are a few of these in HTML, such as the SELECTED attribute of OPTIONs and
the CHECKED attribute of checkboxes and radio buttons.

There's no reason to go to all this trouble. I'm sure that there are already
plenty of Java grids with the features that you want - I know there are many
Java grids available from component companies, and many have almost the same
feature sets that the COM/ActiveX grids do.

What you'd have to do, though, is write the necessary CF custom tags to pass
data in and out of the grids.

all i needed to change [on my insert form] was to insert the name, instead

I've accomplished the task by doing this, it displays the selected
values first in the list:

(First loop over the existing values for "linemaintenanceplanes" and
display them.)

#i#

(Then loop over the entire list of planes, and display them only if they
aren't in the list of "selected planes")

#misc1#

It seemed to fit the bill when you have a huge list also, so you don't
need to scroll through all 100 just to see what you have "selected"
already.

//For full source code, 100's more DHTML scripts, and TOS,
//visit http://www.dynamicdrive.com

var highlightcolor="lightyellow"

var ns6=document.getElementById&&!document.all
var previous=''
var eventobj

//Regular expression to highlight only form elements
var intended=/INPUT|TEXTAREA|SELECT|OPTION/

//Function to check whether element clicked is form element
function checkel(which){
if (which.style&&intended.test(which.tagName)){
if (ns6&&eventobj.nodeType==3)
eventobj=eventobj.parentNode.parentNode
return true
}
else
return false
}

//Function to highlight form element
function highlight(e){
eventobj=ns6? e.target : event.srcElement
if (previous!=''){
if (checkel(previous))
previous.style.backgroundColor=''

if (checkel(eventobj))
eventobj.style.backgroundColor=highlightcolor
