RE: Re[2]: CFFTP

2002-03-09 Thread Steve Oliver

Not sure if it would help, but you don't need to auth again on logout,
and you can use cfftp.succeeded to check if it worked.

Only other way I can think of is to cfhttp against a protected folder,
but you said your not using IIS as the ftp server, so that really
wouldn't help since your ftp server has it's own users.

Re: Help - Security Configuration Editor?

2002-03-09 Thread Douglas Brown

Maybe this will help

policies
Security settings define the security-relevant behavior of the system. Through the use
of Group Policy objects in the Active Directory, administrators can centrally apply
the security levels required to protect enterprise systems.

When determining settings for a Group Policy object that contains multiple computers,
the organizational and functional character of that given site, domain, or
organizational unit must be considered. For example, the security levels necessary for
an organizational unit containing computers in a sales department would be very
different from that for an organizational unit containing finance department computers.

Security settings
The term security settings is interchangeable with security configuration. Security
settings include Security Policies (account and local policies), access control
(services, files, registry), event log, group membership (restricted groups), Internet
Protocol security Security policies, and Public Key policies.

Security templates
A security template is a physical representation of a security configuration: a file
where a group of security settings may be stored. Windows 2000 includes a set of
security templates, each based on the role of a computer: from security settings for
low security domain clients to highly secure domain controllers. These templates can
be used as provided, modified, or serve as a basis for creating custom security
templates.

Security configuration tools
To define and use security templates, administrators use the Security Templates
snap-in.

To configure and analyze security locally, administrators use the Security
Configuration and Analysis snap-in.

To configure security centrally in Active Directory, administrators use the Group
Policy snap-in.

Help - Security Configuration Editor?

2002-03-09 Thread David Cummins

Hi all,

I'm setting up a client's box, and want it to be as secure as possible. I've
seen many mentions of how wonderful the "Security Configuration Editor" is, but
I'm damned if I can find a copy of it anywhere. The server is running Win 2k,
which apparently has it installed by default. Well I can't find it. Searches on
the web have revealed nothing on where you get it (except for NT 4, which didn't

What you are do there is replacing the CRLF pair with a space. I see no
treatment for commas at all. chr(13) is a CR and chr(10) is a LF, the
standard pair at the end of a line, except if you live in Unix world

"ALL")#'

2nd try OT: setting up your own box.

2002-03-09 Thread Mark A. Kruger - CFG

Jason,

Here's a URL for subscribing to microsofts security service:

http://www.microsoft.com/technet/treeview/default.asp?url=/technet/security/
bulletin/notify.asp

I'd also recomend subscribing to a couple of other CERT services.
Vulnerabilities are often first discovered by third parties and and MS OS is
picked apart immediately upon release. Recently, a number of OTHER security
issues (beside MS) could have implications for your security (like the SNMP
vulnerability). Subscribing to a non-microsoft list keeps your focus
broader than just your OS.

First though, tune your server carefully and eliminate ALL unnecessary
services and applications. That way, you will not be vulnerable to security
issues that would otherwise be irrelevnat to you. For example, if you are
not going to use your server as a print server, why would have the spooler
service running? Running it takes up resources on the server and opens you
up to any security issues related to the spooler service (not that there are
any that I know of ). Running it also means you are bound to apply a hot
fix if it one comes out for that service.

Contrary to some doctrine, I don't believe you should install every hot fix.
You should do enough research to be able to tell if you are at risk before
you apply the fix. Hotfixes are about 95% reliable - but there have been a
few released that have subsequently been rolled back because they cause
additional problems. That's my 2 cents.

As far as keeping up, it's a challenge. If you don't have operations people
and you have to do it yourself, the best advice is to create an email folder
for all the certs advisories and review them on a weekly scheduled basis.
Also get used to surfing around the net and researching the subject on a
regular basis - it never ends .

Burn the SP's to a CD and install everything, and remove all of the
unnecessary extensions, _before_ plugging in the network cable.
Otherwise I guaranteee you will get infected by Nimbda and all the rest
before you can even get IIS started. Removing the unnecessary IIS
extensions pretty much solves the entire problem of having to worry
about the patches.

There's one here: http://www.ibdatabase.com/

It costs $200 for the server driver.

I don't have my JavaScript references with me, but I don't think you can do
this type of file operation, because it would pose tremendous security
risks. However, you can easily add a link on your page to add a favorite,
for what it's worth. Here's a reference:

Hi Eric,

I could be wrong, but I am pretty sure that you cannot do this via
ColdFusion (well, not unless ColdFusion is running locally). You can
however do it using Macromedia Director with the Buddy API Xtra.

Again, I haven't had to try this and I could be wrong.

Re: preserve javascript formatting?

2002-03-09 Thread Jon Hall

How about surrounding the script tags with pre tags? I may not be
understanding the issue though...javascript can be compressed (if that
is what this tag is doing) just like html and still work. Perhaps you
are missing some semicolons and two javascript statements are getting
stuck together?

preserve javascript formatting?

2002-03-09 Thread Eric J Hoffman

Ok, last question, for a bit... :-) How do you guys deal with preserving
the formatting of javascript? A tag is redoing some content on a page, and
when it spits it out, its lost its formatting, thus the navigation no longer
works? Viewing source shows it all lopped together. I know this must be
elementary, but I am runnning short on sleep.

Jeff,

Just pass the list from one release to the next using hidden form fields,
along with an index number for the next name. You will actually only have
to write this one time, so you can just keep going back to this same release
for each of the 8 people. Plus, you never have to worry about being limited
to 8. For example, in the release write this:

#listgetat(form.namelist,thisposition)#

Re: Macromedia's XML Resource Feed

2002-03-09 Thread Jeffry Houser

Yes, imagine my dismay when I discovered my host wasn't on 5, and
therefore didn't support custom functions. I'm in the process of moving
the site. Comments on the code are welcome, it should be documented and
someday I want to write an article describing what I did and why I did it.
Theoretically, you should be able to use the concepts I used to write a
true XML parser.

not a standard XML parser.

  http://www.instantcoldfusion.com/resources/articles.cfm

For the record, WDDX and XML are two different things. You will not be
able to inherently read the newsfeed using WDDX.

RE: Macromedia's XML Resource Feed

2002-03-09 Thread Dave Babbitt

Is it that the WDDX cannot read the tag? When I try
to subscribe to this feed with my Radio Userland I get:

Can't subscribe to the channel. The most likely cure is to check the URL in
a web browser and see if you can get it to read the feed. The following
message probably won't help you figure out what went wrong, but we include
it here because it might. "Can't get the address of "rss" because the table
doesn't have an object with that name."

The reference you give says:

ColdFusion
Use the XML feed as a data source within ColdFusion to create dynamic
content for an HTML page. In order to parse the XML in ColdFusion, you will
need to use a third party XML parser such as a COM object or Java based
parser.

Of course you knew that. :-) My instinct is to use the loadXML method
(http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/xmlsdk/htm
/xml_mth_hn_1nho.asp) by downloading it into some MSXML javascript like
this:

var xmlDoc = new ActiveXObject("Msxml2.DOMDocument.4.0");
xmlDoc.async = false;
xmlDoc.loadXML("#REReplace(CFHTTP.FileContent, Chr(62) &
'[[[:space:]]]+'
& Chr(60), Chr(62) & Chr(60), 'ALL')#");
alert(xmlDoc.xml);

Of course you have to download
(http://msdn.microsoft.com/downloads/default.asp?url=/downloads/sample.asp?u
rl=/msdn-files/027/001/766/msdncompositedoc.xml) and register
(http://doc.ddart.net/xmlsdk/htm/sdk_installregister_4r76.htm) Microsoft XML
Core Services 4.0 RTM. If you could download a copy local to the browser you
could just use var xmlDoc = new ActiveXObject("Microsoft.XMLDOM"); and
xmlDoc.load("macromedia_resources.xml"); and not have to worry about
downloading the 4.0 as the XMLDOM is probably already installed in your IE
browser.

Subject: Macromedia's XML Resource Feed

Hi,

Has anyone used Macromedia's resource feed with CF located at

http://www.macromedia.com/desdev/articles/xml_resource_feed.html

How is it done? I've done XML parsing with Moreover's XML feeds using WDDX,
but this is different. Here's my feeble code:

http://www.macromedia.com/desdev/resources/macromedia_resources.xml";>

The error is:

unknown element encountered

I know I'm probably way off in using WDDX to parse the xml doc here. Any
help here greatly appreciated.

Thanks!
Andrew

Re: is this possible?

2002-03-09 Thread nagraj

Hi Jeff,

Yes It is posssible. If you know that there are 8 elements and keep track of
how to show. Then it is possible.

Once the 8 variables are finished then you divert the submission to original
page.Till that you will be revolving in
same page with different variables requesting.

Cheers!

Its all relative, do you ever engage in a chat environment on-line, or even
send an email, of course you do, the idea knowing the forecast or weather
report is a simulation of how we would do it in the real world, only at a
glance displayed on a computer screen, thats all... no big deal just handy,

I tend to agree with Adam. A company's main page should be about the
company - not necessarily about the environment around their building.
However, if the managers decide they want weather info, then I would handle
it as a simple link on the main page to a weather page. This way, you are
still providing the information, but minimizing the use of screen real
estate for it, and allowing the user to choose if they want to see it or
not.

My two cents worth.

I don't understand what is so wrong about it, however your description
below is obviously a flawed implementation. I see no reason why you can't
get local weather based on the user's sign in. ( New York people see New
York info, Chicago people see Chicago info, etc.. )

is this possible?

2002-03-09 Thread Jeff Fongemie

Hello cf-talk,

Can someone steer me in the right direction to look for this?

I need to take a list of names passed by a form.

Then generate an html page with release form info and the first name
so the user can print. User clicks "next" and then another page with release form and
the second name, user clicks next and another page with the third
name and so on until there are no more names left.

So if the form gave 8 names, there would be 8 pages with one name
  each until the last page.

  Is this even possible?

401.3 Unauthorized: Unauthorized due to ACL on resource

2002-03-09 Thread David Clover

I have upgraded a server to CF 5 - it's an IIS4 server on NT 4 with the
August 2001 IIS 4 security roll up installed. The NT server is running SP 6a

Documents publish OK with extension .htm. I have declared the extension
default.cfm, index.cfm in the IIS MMC console as valid. (see
http://robots.open.ac.uk for an 'index.htm' and then see
http://cci.open.ac.uk for an example failure - the .htm sidebar appears -
but the .cfm body which is referenced in the frameset. See also
http://computing.open.ac.uk/home/ which has an index.cfm as the root page)

All documents have at least read access to account IUSR_servername. IIS4 is
set up to work with anonymous access only.

However, whenever I try address a document .cfm using a web browser, I
receive:

401.3 Unauthorized: Unauthorized due to ACL on resource

All the CF services are reported as running normally in the Service Manager.
I am baffled as to where the security problem lies.

Can anyone advise? The vexing part is that initially, it all worked
absolutely fine. I can't even seem to get at the Cold Fusion Administrator
page now.

With many thanks if you can help!

Adam,

I have to admit that as simple as it is, that is one hell of a good tip

Hey Graham,

You're gonna LOVE this technique!

1) Plunk down $39.95 for Avery DesignPro 2000 label software.

2) Create a new User named "LabelUser" with a unique password in your
database (we did this with SQL Server).

3) Create a View object that performs whatever query (relational or not)
that exposes the columns you need for your labels. Name your View something
really obvious like "Labels," and if your column names are cryptic then make
sure to take advantage of aliasing in the view definition itself, as your
customer will be interacting with these column names.

4) Allow LabelUser to have only SELECT access to this view; disallow
everyone else.

5) Create a local ODBC data source on the user's workstation that points to
the IP address of the database server, and that connects using the LabelUser
username and the password you assigned to that user.

6) Fire up DesignPro 2000, and use that ODBC link as your data source when
creating and printing labels.

7) Create as many label templates as your customer wants, and you'll have
them up and running in about ten minutes.

You now have a $40 piece of well-supported, off-the-shelf commercial
software handling a complex issue in a secure fashion. If the customer
needs new label designs, they just fire it up and do it-- all without having
to involve you (unless the both of you want it that way).

Remember: you can apply filters and sorts to a View just like it was a table
in your database, so let DesignPro supply such info rather then thinking you
have to create separate View objects each time you want a different
selection of labels. Just define your View object to expose the columns you
need from whatever tables you need.

The exception would be if you only ever want to create labels for a
clearly-defined subset of rows. In that case you would supply a WHERE
clause (or extend the JOIN clause) to handle that in your View definition so
you don't have to return a ton of rows you don't need to your workstation
over the Internet. Any filters you apply in DesignPro get applied to
whatever rows are returned from the View object.

I hope this helps, my friend! :)

Just use a conditional loop which is not over the query as a query, but
over the query as a structure of arrays. Have to do that anyway if you
want to jump back and forth between rows.

Depends on design. I usually have pages that are included and pages that
are called directly, not pages that can be both included and called
directly. Combined with not using the query attribute on a loop/output I
don't see the problem.

It all depends on overall coding methodology. But it wouldn't be my
favourite either.
