parsing CFML

2002-04-08 Thread James Sleeman

Hi all,
this is a bit of a strange request I guess. I want to parse CFML
files like they were XML files, so that I can access the structure of
the (well formed, no overlapping with html etc) cfml. For example, so
that I can do something like

I just saw a cfcase, it's value was
#parsecf[i].value# and the content of this cfcase
is #parsecf[i].contents#...

. etc .

has anybody done anything like this ??

Re: hosting

2002-04-08 Thread Cold Fusion

Well after viewing some of what the other hosting companies offer
and for the price as well. I still find that ATSwebnet has performed
better, offers more, and well honestly at a better price.

Compare the features. I have been running 2 sites there and soon to be
doing a 3rd. There uptime and support far surpasses anything or any other
company I have been with before.

Plus I can not beat the email services they offer. Unlimited email accounts
and both web email and POP email.

Check them out at: www.atswebnet.com

RE: restart CF on web/http

2002-04-08 Thread Craig Dudley

In NT/2K You can stop/start almost anything that's installed to run as a
service with the NET STOP and NET START commands, use a batch file and
execute it with cfexecute.

Eg.

Stop.bat
NET STOP "service name"

Start.bat
NET START "service name"

I don't know the name of the cf service off hand, shouldn't be hard to find
though.

Craig.

RE: restart CF on web/http

2002-04-08 Thread Carlisle, Eric

Probably want to cfexecute a single batch file with all the service restart
commands.
When you "net stop" the ColdFusion application server you can't use
ColdFusion to start it again.

Also bear in mind that services have dependancies on other services.
Sometimes you have to stop & start in a specific order.

I'm not certain about 2K. "Net" has a "restart" parameter in 2k, doesn't
it?

SQL server and regular expressions

Off the wall question here.

does anyone know if sql server supports regular expressions? I have some
text that gets entered into a database that i would like to parse inside a
stored procedure instead of doing it in CF. please give some examples if you
can.

Yes Eric, I think it does have a restart option in 2K.

So the command would be

I know it's too late but for future reference...
There's a known bug in CF4.5 that deals with the CFAS crashing on
startup if it has a problem finding the JVM. It's in the knowledge

I think that did it. Phew !

It is certainly working again and it seemed to fire up as soon as I

Calendar where events span more than one day...

2002-04-08 Thread JamesEdmunds

I am working on a calendar implentation for a client who
wants to be able to show events that span more than one day,
but show them on a traditional month-grid calendar.

I have had good luck in another project adapting Ben Forta's
CF_Calendar from the Advanced CF Development book, including
making it a bit more Netscape friendly, as well as passing
database/popup window calls through the associated tags, etc.
but that seems to take me only down to the one-day level.

Can anyone point to something helpful, some hint about how
to go about this or even an available application or tag?
Netscape friendly would be best, of course.

My first thoughts are that this would be accomplished by
somehow manipulating table definitions, with some cells
spanning rows, etc., and also that the database for the
calendar would use start and end dates, but that's as far as
I have gotten up to this point.

Much thanks in advance for any help, insights, or useful
directions for what to explore.

Regards,

James Edmunds

RE: Code Commenting

2002-04-08 Thread Mark A. Kruger - CFG

I like fusedoc as well - even when I'm using an alternate framework. It
makes it easy to get a handle on a particular code block. However, you
really must be doing some form of code separation to make it work
effectively.

RE: Query a Query or SQL Syntax (Not IN)

2002-04-08 Thread Paul Sizemore

I was out of the office on Friday, but this worked like a charm. Thanks for
all your help.

On the name thing, I'm just following SOP here. If you can make someone else
have a potty mouth, do it (it's great fun in meetings).

At least I don't need a header table or variable (maybe I can work that in
later).

should you have a ValueList(asstaken.assname) in your last recordset? as it
is, you're trying to exclude a *query variable#, not a list of names.

IE:

Select empl from AssList,asstaken
Where empl NOT IN (#ValueList(AssTaken.assname)#)

as a side note, very...interesting variable naming.

I've got two queries from different data sources, and I want to find records
in the First, that are not in the second (a non-compliance report)

Shouldn't I be able to do a NOT IN in a Query of Query?

My code is as follows (Ass is short for Associate):

Select AssName from
Intranet.PBS.App_StraightTalk

Select
empl,locnum,first_name,last_name,last_hire From associate Where last_hire >
'12/24/2001'

Select empl from AssList,asstaken
Where empl NOT IN (AssTaken)

What am I doing wrong, or how should I do this?

Re: ADVANCED - Expression results - Please Help !!!

2002-04-08 Thread Ian Vaughan

Yes this the error I am getting when trying to add a new record to my Oracle
8 database.

--
Error Occurred While Processing Request
Error Diagnostic Information
Expression result cannot be converted to a string

Expressions used inside tags like CFOUTPUT, CFQUERY, CFMAIL, etc. must
evaluate to a value that can be converted to a string for output or dynamic
text accumulation purposes. Complex objects, such as queries, arrays, and
COM/DCOM objects, cannot be represented as strings.

The error occurred while processing an element with a general identifier of
(#url#), occupying document position (50:159) to (50:163).

Hi, also take a look at this KB for the full list of services and batch file:

Yes Eric, I think it does have a restart option in 2K.

So the command would be

---
Net restart "Cold Fusion Application Server"

Probably want to cfexecute a single batch file with all the service restart
commands.
When you "net stop" the ColdFusion application server you can't use
ColdFusion to start it again.

Also bear in mind that services have dependancies on other services.
Sometimes you have to stop & start in a specific order.

I'm not certain about 2K. "Net" has a "restart" parameter in 2k, doesn't
it?

In NT/2K You can stop/start almost anything that's installed to run as a
service with the NET STOP and NET START commands, use a batch file and
execute it with cfexecute.

Eg.

Stop.bat
NET STOP "service name"

Start.bat
NET START "service name"

I don't know the name of the cf service off hand, shouldn't be hard to find
though.

RE: ADVANCED - Expression results - Please Help !!!

URL is a structure and scope identifier. You can't use it as a simple
variable.

Yes this the error I am getting when trying to add a new record to my
Oracle
8 database.

--
Error Occurred While Processing Request
Error Diagnostic Information
Expression result cannot be converted to a string

Expressions used inside tags like CFOUTPUT, CFQUERY, CFMAIL, etc. must
evaluate to a value that can be converted to a string for output or
dynamic
text accumulation purposes. Complex objects, such as queries, arrays,
and
COM/DCOM objects, cannot be represented as strings.

The error occurred while processing an element with a general identifier
of
(#url#), occupying document position (50:159) to (50:163).

When you reference the variable "URL", you're referencing the URL scope,
which is exposed as a structure. CF 4.0.x may have let you get away with
that; CF 4.5.x won't. You might be able to scope your variable to avoid the
problem (URL.URL), but I'd recommend that you rename the variable as well
for the sake of clarity.

To be more precise, "CF Express" is a limited older version of
ColdFusion server. There are several features that are not supported in
Express. It was the 4.x answer to a developer's version of CF.

CF Express vs ColdFusion

2002-04-08 Thread Jeffry Houser

ColdFusion Express is a limited version based off of 4.5. It is (or was)
given out free by Macromedia (Or Allaire). It is not fully functional.

2002-04-08 Thread Kevan . Windle

>Please ingnore my ignorance but what do you mean by 'specifiers' ??
Prefix your variables with their scope so that:
url variables are:
#url.varname#
form variables are:
#form.varname#
local variables are:
#variables.varname#
query variables are:
#queryname.varname#
To Cf #url# is the structure holding all url variables.

Odd can't log in behavior

2002-04-08 Thread Janine Jakim

I have a login page- first it checks the user/password. If there is no match
it sends the user back to the login page with a message...
If there is a match it checks what group the user is in and what quarter
they should have access to. (Current quarter or past quarters). It is only
on occassion that a user needs access to a past quarter so by default they
are set to current quarter.
If a user is in current quarter all is fine.
I'm having a situation where when a user is given access to a past quarter
they can't log in at all- they get kicked back to the login page with a
message! But the oddest part is that it works fine from any of my test
machines (I have 3 that I use)- I can log in as this user and see her info.
However, she can't and we know it isn't a matter of mistyping the password.
I set her back to current quarter access- still no luck she can't get in.
We finally changed her password and she finally got back in. Here's my cfif
statement to set the path...I don't know if that's the problem or where else
to look!
Thanks in advance

should you have a ValueList(asstaken.assname) in your last recordset? as it
is, you're trying to exclude a *query variable#, not a list of names.

IE:

Select empl from AssList,asstaken
Where empl NOT IN (#ValueList(AssTaken.assname)#)

as a side note, very...interesting variable naming.

I've got two queries from different data sources, and I want to find records
in the First, that are not in the second (a non-compliance report)

Shouldn't I be able to do a NOT IN in a Query of Query?

My code is as follows (Ass is short for Associate):

Select AssName from
Intranet.PBS.App_StraightTalk

Select
empl,locnum,first_name,last_name,last_hire From associate Where last_hire >
'12/24/2001'

Select empl from AssList,asstaken
Where empl NOT IN (AssTaken)

What am I doing wrong, or how should I do this?

Re: CFFTP Problem

2002-04-08 Thread Mario Martinez R.

1_Is that a valid file name???
CFSET remotefile1 = "foo.mdb">

2_Is that TRANSFERMODE="AUTO" or
TRANSFERMODE="AUTODETECT" ??

I'm posting the completely help from Coldfusion studio
down here to see if it can help.See and compare
againsts the tested samples.

Regards Mario.

CFFTP
CFFTP allows users to implement File Transfer Protocol
operations.

Note The CFFTP tag is for moving files between a
ColdFusion server and an FTP server. CFFTP cannot move
files between a ColdFusion server and a browser
(client). Use CFFILE ACTION="UPLOAD" to transfer files
from the client to a ColdFusion server; use CFCONTENT
to transfer files from a ColdFusion server to the
browser.

Note also that ColdFusion Server Basic security
settings may prevent CFFTP from executing. These
settings are managed using the ColdFusion
Administrator Basic Security page. If you write
ColdFusion applications designed to run on a server
that is used by multiple customers, you need to
consider the security of the files that the customer
can move. Please refer to Administering ColdFusion
Server for more information about securing ColdFusion
tags.

CFFTP topics:
Establishing a Connection with CFFTP
File and Directory Operations with CFFTP
Accessing the Columns in a Query Object
CFFTP.ReturnValue Variable
Connection Caching
Establishing a Connection with CFFTP
Use the CONNECTION attribute of the CFFTP tag to
establish a connection with an FTP server.

If you use connection caching to an already active FTP
connection, you don't need to respecify the connection
attributes:

USERNAME
PASSWORD
SERVER
Note Changes to a cached connection, such as changing
RETRYCOUNT or TIMEOUT values, may require
reestablishing the connection.

Syntax

ACTION
Required. Determines the FTP operation to perform. To
create an FTP connection, use Open. To terminate an
FTP connection, use Close. See Connection Caching for
more information.

USERNAME
Required for Open. User name to pass in the FTP
operation.

PASSWORD
Required for Open. Password to log in the user.

SERVER
Required for Open. The FTP server to connect to, as in
ftp.myserver.com

TIMEOUT
Optional. Value in seconds for the timeout of all
operations, including individual data request
operations. Defaults to 30 seconds.

PORT
Optional. The remote port to connect to. Defaults to
21 for FTP.

CONNECTION
Optional. The name of the FTP connection. Used to
cache a new FTP connection or to reuse an existing
connection. If the USERNAME, PASSWORD, and SERVER
attributes are specified, a new connection is created
if no connection exists for the specified user. All
calls to CFFTP with the same connection name will
reuse the same FTP connection information.

PROXYSERVER
Optional. A string that contains the name of the proxy
server (or servers) to use if proxy access was
specified.

RETRYCOUNT
Optional. Number of retries until failure is reported.
Default is one (1).

STOPONERROR
Optional. Yes or No. When Yes, halts all processing
and displays an appropriate error. Default is Yes.

When No, three variables are populated:

CFFTP.Succeeded - Yes or No.
CFFTP.ErrorCode - Error number (See following Note for
critical information.)
CFFTP.ErrorText - Message text explaining error type
Note Use CFFTP.ErrorCode for conditional operations.
Do not use CFFTP.ErrorText for this purpose.

PASSIVE
Optional. Yes or No. Defaults to No. Indicates whether
to enable passive mode.

Example
CFFTP

CFFTP Example

CFFTP Example
CFFTP allows users to implement File Transfer
Protocol
operations. By default, CFFTP caches an open
connection to
an FTP server.

CFFTP operations are usually of two types:

Establishing a connection
Performing file and directory operations

This view-only example opens and verifies a
connection,
lists the files in a directory, and closes the
connection.

File and Directory Operations with CFFTP
Use this form of the CFFTP tag to perform file and
directory operations with CFFTP.

If you use connection caching to an already active FTP
connection, you don't need to respecify the connection
attributes:

USERNAME
PASSWORD
SERVER
Syntax

ACTION
Required if connection is not already cached. If
connection caching is used, the ACTION attribute is
not required. Determines the FTP operation to perform.
Can be one of the following:

ChangeDir
CreateDir
ListDir
GetFile
PutFile
Rename
Remove
GetCurrentDir
GetCurrentURL
ExistsDir
ExistsFile
Exists
USERNAME
Required if the FTP connection is not already cached.
If connection caching is used, the USERNAME attribute
is not required. User name to pass in the FTP
operation.

PASSWORD
Required if the FTP connection is not already cached.
If connection caching is used, the PASSWORD attribute
is not required. Password to log the user.

NAME
Required for ACTION="ListDir". Specifies the query
name to hold the directory listing. See Usage for more
information.

SERVER
Required if the FTP connection is not already cached.

RE: CF Web Hosting

2002-04-08 Thread Dowdell, Jason G

I have clients running on advances.net,
media3.net and cfdynamics.com. My experience
with advances.net is that they do not
have enough experience hosting ColdFusion
applications to keep the servers running at
optimum speeds at all times. They are good
people but I wouldn't recommend them. I also
have a client at media3.net. They have improved
greatly in the past year in their performance but
they still have issues. I had to diagnose an issue
for them about a year ago in which i couldn't do
an alias on a joined column in a query and it was
because they were not on the latest version of MDAC.
Needless to say I wasn't happy. Lastly, I have
clients at cfDynamics.com. They have the fastest
performing servers and appear to be the only host
with actual ColdFusion 5 Certified developers.
(of the hosts I listed they are the only certified
ones)

I'd recommend CFDynamics over Media3 and Advances.
They're far cheaper than most hosts and it surprises
me based on the performance and service I've seen to
date.

Multiple CFMail Problem

2002-04-08 Thread Willy Ray

Hey All,

Here's my situation. I have an application that generates 3 total emails. User
clicks submit, it generates one email, then they're taken to another page on which
they can submit additional info. If they do this, two more emails are created, one to
the person who is gathering the info, and another back to the user thanking them for
sending additional info.

My problem is, the middle email doesn't always get sent. I click the first submit
button, I always get the email, I do the additional info, hit submit, and I always get
the "thanks for the more info" message, but I only get the "additional info" message
if I then hit the back button, and re-click submit!

It seems like the time between messages is to short, and I'm getting these additional
info messages in my undelivrable folder. How long do I need to wait between messages,
and what's the best way to accomplish the waiting? two separate templates?

Help!

Willy Ray

RE: Creating Virtual Directories using CF

2002-04-08 Thread Dave Watts

> Has anyone ever tried to connect to IIS using CFObject in
> order to create a low-pooled virtual directory?

When you mention "low-pooled", that implies that you're really creating a
"virtual application" rather than a regular virtual directory. Typically,
when you create a virtual directory, you can have it use the same
application as the site in which it's created.

In any case, you can certainly create virtual directories from CF, although
I wouldn't use CFOBJECT to do all the work. You might take a look at some of
the sample admin scripts that come with IIS (by default, they're in
c:\inetpub\adminscripts). There's one called "mkwebdir.vbs", and you could
call that directly from CFEXECUTE, or rewrite it so that it's a COM object
itself - a Windows Script Component.

Finally, you might take a look at the IHTK components available here:
http://www.intrafoundation.com/

I don't think they give you control over creating virtual applications, just
virtual directories, but maybe you don't need a virtual application in any
case.

Don't know about Forta's version but I do know that Jeffry Houser's will do
multiple days. That would be Chapter 15 in "Instant Cold Fusion 5", Osborne.

Subject: Calendar where events span more than one day...

Regards,

James Edmunds

want to automatically select the shipping method usps (value of that

RE: SQL server and regular expressions

You can use string patterns within a LIKE or PATINDEX text search. These
string patterns are essentially regular expressions, although they're not
really called that within SQL. For example, you could search for "foo" or
"boo":

WHERE field LIKE '[bf]oo'

or you could search for anything like "_oo" other than "foo" or "boo":

WHERE field LIKE '[^bf]oo'

Beyond that, I think you'd probably have to write an extended stored
procedure in C++, but I could be wrong on that.

RE: Deleting attachement after upload (cfmail)

2002-04-08 Thread Clint Tredway

I believe that you will have to wait until the mail is actually sent before
you delete the file.
I would have a routine that ran a few minutes later that deleted the files.

Thats my 2 cents...

I am attaching files for cfmail and uploading the files to the server for
the
attachment process. What I want to do is delete the uploaded file after the
attachment sends. Is this possible? I have tried using after the tag, but then
I
get an error trying to send the attachment because it does not exist. I dont
want to clutter the server with files that really does not need saved. Any
solutions would be of great help.

quickly. have THE MOST COMPLETE administrative backend like you wouldn't

Totally agree, can't say enough good things about these guys. Prices are
good, service is more than you could ask for. You can run almost any sort
of software you'd like including your own DNS (read: multiple domain hosting

If you can foot the bill it's the only way to fly.

RE: Multiple CFMail Problem

2002-04-08 Thread Trey Rouse

We experienced this problem with all versions of 4.5. Allaire never did
'fix' the error. They claimed it was fixed in 4.5.1, however it still
existed, just wasn't as persistent as earlier versions.

Our own diagnosis determined that the cause of the error was the
cfmail.dll(I forget the actual name of the DLL) was trying to write two
files at the same time. Or perhaps more correctly, it would attempt to
write the second file before the first was closed. We would typically
end up with 0k files in the undeliverable section.

Anyway, adding some pause between the cfmails may solve your problem
provided the site isn't terribly active and there aren't too many
simultaneous requests to these cfmail calls. We found the size of the
emails also greatly affected how often this error would occur. For
example, if you have a page that sends 4 different emails to 4 different
contacts at one company and each email contains a 10k attachment, you
can start to duplicate this bug with some regularity. Now imagine that
page being hit every 5 seconds... Now, the speed of your server and file
system are also going to affect how often this happens. So, adding
pauses and using smaller emails MAY solve your problem depends on how
active your site is.

Ultimately, our solution was to switch to an alternate means of
generating email. We switched to an ASP product that is actually
multi-threaded unlike Allaire/Macromedias solution.

For years, I have been suggesting that CF Enterprise be bundled with a
robust multi-threaded smtp spooler that should be directly tied to the
application engine. Enterprise sites that deal with high mail loads
would benefit from this. Also, it would add more product disparity
between pro and ent, something I personally feel is lacking.

I have not tested these same errors (bugs?) in CF 5. Perhaps it has
been corrected, but honestly, if past performance of eliminating mail
bugs between revisions is any indication, I would suspect they only
added new and more exciting problems ;)

Subject: Multiple CFMail Problem

Hey All,

Here's my situation. I have an application that generates 3 total
emails. User clicks submit, it generates one email, then they're taken
to another page on which they can submit additional info. If they do
this, two more emails are created, one to the person who is gathering
the info, and another back to the user thanking them for sending
additional info.

My problem is, the middle email doesn't always get sent. I click the
first submit button, I always get the email, I do the additional info,
hit submit, and I always get the "thanks for the more info" message, but
I only get the "additional info" message if I then hit the back button,
and re-click submit!

It seems like the time between messages is to short, and I'm getting
these additional info messages in my undelivrable folder. How long do I
need to wait between messages, and what's the best way to accomplish the
waiting? two separate templates?

Help!

Willy Ray

Actually, I have multiple domains on one box AND don't run DNS... I use
their DNS manager that gives me complete control over all my zone files with

Totally agree, can't say enough good things about these guys. Prices are
good, service is more than you could ask for. You can run almost any sort
of software you'd like including your own DNS (read: multiple domain hosting
on one box).

If you can foot the bill it's the only way to fly.

RE: Multiple CFMail Problem

2002-04-08 Thread Kevin Langevin

ODS' iMS Mail server has a bundled CFX_iMSMail tag which is a vast
improvement over CFMail. I haven't encountered the types of problems you're
describing at all, and I've been using iMS for about two years now.

Howie Hamlin (from ODS) can probably speak more on this, but check out iMS

solved it somewhat by adding in a delay.
