Newbyish Question (FORMS)

2003-06-09 Thread Mark Stephenson - Evolution Internet
Hey,

A bit out of practice, whats the best way to manage mulitple choice 'Search'
forms

Its for an accomodation guide...

I.E.1. Accomodation Types
2. Hotel
3. Guest Houses
4. Bed  Breakfast
5. Self Catering

A user picks 1 5 from the checkboxes

How should i set up my dbase to keep the info... and home do i do the
multiple choice  question..

I've been doing some project management in a completely unrelated field
(transport!) and my mind has gone blank.

Were using MX.

Kind Regards,

A client I'm currently working with is using a flash form for the login
page, which is then processed by CF and redirected.

I assume that if there's a file input type in flash, this shouldn't be a
problem.

 Seriously - check the archives. This comes up about once every two or

 may happen. MS may buy Sun as well. MS may buy anything, but for now,
 there is no truth to the rumour.

When using JavaScript to modify css values, you don't use dashes...replace
them with camelHump notation. e.g. border-left becomes borderLeft,
font-size becomes fontSize, etc.

What you're looking for is:  onmouseover=this.style.borderLeft = 'red 1px
solid';

(i also recommend the onmouseover, onmouseout, etc (event triggers) be all
lowercase...this will make your eventual transition to XHTML much smoother)
:)

charlie

Actually, the Ensim issue IS documented. :-)
http://www.macromedia.com/v1/Handlers/index.cfm?ID=23524Method=Full (#6 in
the list at the bottom of the article)

As it mentions in the description, it's actually a general Apache issue, but
it was the Ensim version that made the bug most visible. The 1.3.x connector
that is available for download in the technote does contain the fix for this
bug. The 2.0.x version should hopefully be added to the article within the
next week or so. I'll be sure to get the technote updated to reflect this
information.

No, unfortunately--

Just letting you know what the techs told us; we couldn't get CFMX to
work with Ensim for some reason or another. They said that the two
don't seem to get along and we ended up snagging a box with Webmin on
it.

I prefer Ensim for it's ease-of-use, but...

Apparently, there are more than a few undocumented things when it
comes to CFMX and Linux.

Sorry.

 Isn't there an issue with Ensim and CFMX?

 We just switched to Webmin and I thought that some incompatibilities
 with Ensim was one of the reasons.

I used them for a while, then left. Was not very happy with them at all.

I had some problems with their CF_CFM_FILE tag (Replaces the CFFILE tag,
I think that was the name of it). They had an error and had to fix it,
was not recognizing my login and password that I passed. Guess a DB
issue, but besides that I had no problems at all. Never used the
execute.

Actually, the Ensim issue IS documented. :-)
http://www.macromedia.com/v1/Handlers/index.cfm?ID=23524Method=Full (#6
in
the list at the bottom of the article)

As it mentions in the description, it's actually a general Apache issue,
but
it was the Ensim version that made the bug most visible. The 1.3.x
connector
that is available for download in the technote does contain the fix for
this
bug. The 2.0.x version should hopefully be added to the article within
the
next week or so. I'll be sure to get the technote updated to reflect
this
information.

Subject: OT: Javascript ?

Hi Folks,
With the following code, I can check or uncheck all the checkboxes on a page
IF I use an input type of button. If I use an input type of image, the page
submits. What gives? (Two different style of looping because of messing
around with it only.)

SCRIPT LANGUAGE=JavaScript
!-- Begin
function checkAll() {
 var el = document.forms[0].elements;
 for(var i = 0 ; i  el.length ; ++i) {
  if(el[i].type == checkbox) {
   el[i].checked = true;
 }
 }
}
function unCheckAll() {
var i=0;
for( i=0 ; idocument.forms[0].elements.length; i++) {
document.forms[0].elements[i].checked=0;
}
}
//  End --
/script

These submit the form:
input type=image src=images/check.gif onClick=checkAll(); alt=Check
All input type=image src=images/uncheck.gif onClick=unCheckAll();
alt=UnCheck All

These don't
input type=button value=Check All onClick=checkAll(); input
type=button value=UnCheck All onClick=unCheckAll();

Guys,

I have this code which checks all checkboxes in a form :

function checkAll(theForm) {
for (i=0,n=theForm.elements.length;in;i++)
if (theForm.elements[i].name.indexOf('chkmsg') !=-1)
theForm.elements[i].checked = true;
}

I then call it via another checkbox :

input type=checkbox onClick=if (this.checked) checkAll(this.form);

This all works AOK except that I am missing the code to uncheck them!!! Can
anyone point me in the right direction with a solution?! I am sure its
fairly simple, but I just cant see it as of yet :-(

Neil

Subject: OT: online payment processing w/out merchant account

We're new, and we sell adult merchandise, so getting a merchant account
is pretty tough. We should be able to have our own merchant account in
two or three months.

I'm looking for a payment processing solution where a third-party
provides the merchant account/credit card processing services, but still
allows the webmaster to maintain the shopping cart, collect the user
information (billing and shipping), then pass the data over to the third
party for processing. Just like Verisign's PayFlow Pro except they have
the merchant account(s).

The reason: We are currently using iBill Catalog Complete. It's OK,
except I want to be able to offer discounts for paid members, keep an
accurate running inventory of products, maintain my own client
information database, etc. With iBill, since the cart is processed on
their servers, if a person abandons a cart or their card is declined, I
have no way of returning that inventory to my system until we do our
daily orders download for delivery. Then I need to manually calculate
inventory and update our database. It's a major pain in the ...

I'd like the fexibility and functionality of something like Verisign's
PayFlow Pro without needing to have our own merchant account (just yet).
I'd also like that type of system so I won't have to completely redesign
our web site back end to incorporate a PayFlow Pro style system when we
do have our own merchant account.

Any pointers would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Jeff

Seems like there are more posts about Off topic posts and also the off
topic posts them selves on this list than ever before. While I enjoy OT
post as much as anyone, I highly value this list for its on topic info.

My idea is a voting system where after about 20 or so list member votes, via
a link at the bottom of all of the posts, would cause the thread to be moved
to another list or to block the topic entirely. This idea is just another
way that this list could police itself. I have brought the idea up once
before, and this will be the last time I bring it up.

Subject: simple way to email my users.

We've been asked to add email alert functionality to a clients web site.

The client is a recruitment company and wants to maintain a list of
prospective candidates that can be automatically alerted when the company
has new job openings. The clients wants to be able to manually add / remove
names to the email list and to enable new job seekers to add themselves or
modify their settings through their web site.

The settings will be quite simple, a new job seeker can specify to receive
alerts for

1) Software development jobs
2) Management jobs
3) all jobs

When the recruitment company has a new job requirement they will type it
up, assign it to a category, and then have an option to send it out to all
the prospective job seekers who have requested for alerts in that category.
Before the emails are sent out the company wants a list of all the
recipients so that they can manually delete or add people from the list
before the mailing is kicked off.

I realize this is a simple project and there are numerous ways to get this
done. What I'm looking are suggestions on how to get this done very quickly
( 2 week time line) I also want to know if there is an existing product we
can buy which with some customization can achieve this for us. Would love
to receive recommendations, suggestions or even proposals if you have a
fast solution.

Thanks.

 OK I know that you can't set a cookie and then use
 CFLOCATION, but I've heard there is a workaround
 using headers.

 Can anyone shed some light?

 BTW this is on CF 5 (yes I know CFMX doesn't have
 this bug/feature..hehe)

You can use the CFHEADER tag to set cookies and change locations. In this
case, you might as well set the cookie with CFCOOKIE, then change the
location with CFHEADER:

cfcookie ...
cfheader name=Location value=urlpath/to/file.cfm
cfheader statuscode=302 statustext=Document moved

Just create a new attribute in the tag called selected...

psuedo
At the dropdown code, if selected defined, then selected is
attribute.selected
/psuedo

Not really into custom tags, but something along those lines should work??

Hi all,

Does anyone know of a replacement for/hack of cf_TwoSelectsRelated that
will allow a value to be selected initially when the control loads?
Think of an administration record editing type situation. Is this the
kind of thing that qForms would be good for?

Thanks,

CFFILE/SCHEDULE

2002-09-25 Thread Mark Stephenson - Evolution Internet

Hey,

A few suggestions on how to achieve the following would be GREATLY
appreciated.

I am creating an app that requires the user to enter their username and
password (NO VALIDATION AVAILBLE)...

This then sets up an .ins file so that when opens configures their internet
settings.

I will be using CFFILE to write the file, not sure how to offer it for
download, and delete the file after they have downloaded it...

Any help appreciated.

Not even Microsoft takes that view with their own site...

If you are interested in AOL users on the Mac, you should at least
support Mozilla. Opera as of v6 is now a very good browser, and easily
supportable, 7 is going to finally bring DOM2 to Opera as well.
IE is no longer available for the Unix platform either.

I only use IE to test sites with these days, and it's quite a pain.

Subject: Access Question

I'm having a tough time with an access query. I'm sure it's something
simple, but I had shoulder surgery yesterday so I have a ball pumping
goodies into the shoulder at it's own discretion. :-)

INSERT INTO subdir
VALUES ('#good#')

And the table is:
subdir_id (autonumber)
subdir (text)

The error says:
ODBC Error Code = 21S01 (Insert value list does not match column list)

[Microsoft][ODBC Microsoft Access Driver] Number of query values and
destination fields are not the same.

SQL = INSERT INTO subdir VALUES ('')

I know this should work. This db WAS an Access 97 that I converted to
Access2002. Could that be affecting it? I've looked at other queries
that work like this with autonumber primary keys. Should I just go lay
down or what?

Subject: CFMX Hosting

Hello all,

Anyone know of some relatively inexpensive CF Hosting. It is for a hobby
site of mine that I am working on. I initially was going to just host it
from my apartment, but Comcast doesnt appreciate the traffic generated from
the Message boards I have there. :-) Also, since I can not afford to buy
CFMX to run, I am looking for some good hosting that is realtively cheap
whatever cheap might be.  :-)

Thanks.

Mike

I run a 1400 user Intranet for my company, and have a home page that has
about
3 dozen links to various resources (including other web servers --
both internal and external).

Could some one give be a head start on how I might record the user's *first*
click off this home page? No need to track them after that.

I'd like to store it in a SQL 7.0 database to run queries against, and at a
minimum I'd like the CFToken, CFID, IP Address, and fully qualified URL
that the click refers to.

I know very little about session/client management, but any articles or
publications pointed out would help me get over this limitation.

This is a 4.5 environment running on Windows NT. (ya-ya, I know - quit
snickering).

Some direction (and pointing out the pitfalls) would be much appreciated.

I am wondering if there is a way to put a CFMail inside of the error
page that CF generates?

That way we can be notified if an error occurs on the web site, and
email the exact error.

Is the error page a CF template? Is it encrypted?

We tried wrapping all of the pages with cftry/cfcatch in
application.cfm, and onendrequest.com, but CF does not like the tag
broken up like that.

Subject: TextArea  MS Word

Here is a quick question:

Using MS Word 2000 or even 97, copying information from a document
and pasting it into a TEXTAREA box will lose the formatting such as
apostrophes.

I am not concerned with the BOLD or Italicize but the apostrophes,
commas, and quotes I am concerned about.

With the TEXTAREA if I manually type the apostrophes, commas, and
quotes, then it is retained when saving to the database.

But if Pasted from MS Word, it transforms the apostrophe into a
little square box.

Any suggestions on why this occurs? We are looking at ActiveEdit
or soEditorLite to handle this but baffles me why I can manually
type it and it is retained verses pasting it into the field and then
it is converted.

TIA!

Flash!!! It currently doesn't support flash, although if you hand code it
and use full paths you can get the flash to run on the page.

That and I used my own Image Manager tool.

There are one or two other issues that can be resolved pretty easily, see
the soeditor forum.

Layout control is quite good, I have used it on 3 apps, two internal and

 Should the whole list be getting a quarantine message
 including the word that quarantined it?? I assume it's
 just a glitch.

I don't think it's a glitch; it's how mail content filters work. If the
