RE: Google Analytics?

2006-05-24 Thread Hugo Ahlenius
I am just waiting for Google A. to set up a web service so that I can
query it remotely. I would like to integrate the visitors ranking into a
web-site that I am working on, like for instance to order entries by
popularity.

Re: Google Analytics?

2006-05-23 Thread Casey Dougall
Google A. Breakdown:

Yeah it's great if your looking for savings against going the route of
Omniture or Webtrends but it's not as intuitive, well it is in some sence,
it can tell me the version of flash someon it running, Nice!!!. More setup
work on your campaigns ahead of time is the worst part about it. I'm going
to give one example because outside of this Google Analysis is great and a
good fit for most websites. I can't even guarantee this is a good example
because I don't sell anything anymore. Just my experience from having access
to Omiture for a multi-mil account and what Google is providing. I'll bypass
the setup of commerce applications because it's a pain in the ass either
way. Slightly easier in Omniture but it's a one time deal when you add it to
your e-cart nun-the-less

I'd be more interested in the time it takes to setup a campaign.

I might be wrong here. I'm just going off what I see... No true testing
going on!

Example:

You have a product your selling:
You send out your email campaign with a tracking link to your product page.

Omniture:
>>Add a unique tracking link as part of the url. - Meaning your just write
it out at the end of your URL?campaignid=BlaBla-Sale
>>Track your sales - Full Funnel

Google:
>>LOGIN TO GOOGLE!!! Bigest step here!
>>Modify your Goal Settings:
>>Goal Settings: G1
>>Add the details of the tracking stuff.
>> Define Funnel (optional) - Umm, not in this case because you would like
to track from an email campaign so you will have to set an entry point so
this works correctly.
>>Track your sales - Full Funnel

If this if off base, let me know. I'd like to maybe blog about this on my
new google/notebook hahaha...

Unfortunately, the SSL portion of Google Analytics is slightly broken. They
have SSL set up so that you can fetch their files, but their certificate
doesn't match the URL used to fetch the files.

If I recall correctly, you can work around this by downloading their .js
file periodically and referencing it locally instead. I don't think it
changes that often.

Google is responsable for 88.05% of hits on the site (almost all due to
search)

Lists page
63.73% of visiters are using IE, 31.25% firefox
94.17% Windows, 3.47% Mac
over 95% of visters are using 1024X768 or higher resolution

Re: Google Analytics?

2006-05-21 Thread Brad Haas
It is really great software, but let me give you a word of caution. Nothing is
free.

You're sharing your website data with Google. This may not be a bad thing, but
if you are using AdWords--you might not want to share this information. I'm
not saying Google is doing anything wrong, but I'd be concerned about sharing
all my site stats with a company that I'm paying for advertising.

If you're using it for a nonprofit, personal or non-revenue generating blog
then I think it would be a perfect solution.

Nope. Most of the versions that say 8 show a r number after them. 8.0 is at
50.55%, 8r22 is at 15.61%, 8r24 is at 7.94%, etc. I see a few 8.5 alphas and
betas but most of the numbers say 8.0 of some sort.

Re: Google Analytics?

2006-05-21 Thread Michael Dinowitz
I use it daily to track how well House of Fusion and Fusion Authority are
doing. It's fantastic!
I should export some of the stats and maps to a public dir so people can see
some of the stats. Knowing how many people are coming from UAE or Iran shows
the global reach of the site. Knowing how many people are new per day lets
me know how to target information better for people who will be in for 2 or
so pages and that's it.
I can go on and on but the bottom line is that the amount of stats you'll
get from it is insane.

What it does, webtrends can't do.

Re: Google Analytics

2006-01-09 Thread Donnie Bachan
Google Analytics is basically Urchin 5 that has been amped up a bit.
Google bought Urchin last year. I have used their early release of it
because a client of mine is an AdWords customer. It is pretty neat
stuff. I also primarily use SmarterStats but I think that Urchin was a
better choice (it was much more expensive that SS!). Google's version
is really nice and it does what it is supposed to, but be aware that
they include tracking items in your url if you use mod_rewrite or
linkfreeze and their adWords system.

They recently opened up the Analytics again so you should be getting a
peek at it soon.

Best Regards,

Hi Bobby,

Whether Google gets it's act together or not, I'd not rely on a third party
for my analytics unless I had no other option.

Having watched Google's direction over the past year or so I am also
thinking that the analytics are as much for Google's benefit as any supposed
help to us, as has been my experience on their Reporting system for Adwords.

I think you're right about Google's motivations with Analytics. If they
could get a huge portion of the web to use Analytics, can you imagine
the possibilities of all that previously unattainable data? Browser
stats, true site popularity numbers, better web indexing, etc..

I for one think this could be a huge boon to the IT industry, because
for once we could have a company big enough to gather those kind of
aggregate stats, and hopefully share them with the rest of us. :)

RE: Google Analytics

2006-01-09 Thread Jennifer Gavin-Wear

My tuppenth,

Jenny

Am I EVER going to get into Google Analytics??? I've been on the waiting
list for quite some time now. Anyone here using it? Is it worth waiting?
Should I stick with SmarterStats?

RE: Google Analytics

2006-01-09 Thread Rick Faircloth
I was in early because I'm using GoogleWords advertising for
some clients. It's great stuff...especially since it's free!
I check it everyday...instead of having to use my servers to
crunch the numbers, I can drain their system resources!

RE: Google Analytics

2006-01-09 Thread Munson, Jacob
It's a site stats program, as far as I understand it. And I am still
waiting to get in as well. Last I heard they have stopped taking new
signups because they got overwhelmed by the hoards of webmasters signing
up. But Google says they plan to open up the signup process again
later.

Yeah, I guess you would have called it beta... They opened it up for signup
and got a huge response and closed it out to new registrants. That was quite
a while back. Im just anxious to take it for a spin myself.

Was it a beta that you had to sign up for? I'm doing their sitemapping beta,
but I hadn't heard of their analytics...more info please? I'm very curious.
