(memory, where has thou gone?)

isXML() ... does it return true?

FormatXML() ... should be unnecessary but try it anyway.

if your XML was only half the size would it start working?

[cfaussie] Plug: Australian ColdFusion Channel Pricing Announced

And to finish (reignite? Please keep your hats on) the pricing

thread is going to go on, let's at least have a good look at the new

no dammit they should pay me to use ColdFusion, AND it should be open

2007-08-01 Thread M@ Bourke
Personally I'd expect every new edition to have more features/advancements
as that's what you expect in IT when a new product comes along, and Adobe
has competitors so it should always have new features etc as the competitors
do.
So I think the price increase is up for debate.

2007-08-01 Thread Pat Branley

Heres some trvia:

According to my dictionary.xml in CFEclipse for CF7 there are 106 CFML
Tags, and 286 functions supported. For the CF8, there are 138 tags and
286 functions. I dont think its been updated with the latest function
list, but working on tags thats 30% more tags for so i hear 25% more
cost.

obviously thats a very simplistic way of looking at it. How much value
do those new tags provide for your dollar ? what else apart from
language enhancements make the purchase worthwhile ? etc. etc. But i
dont think its really suprising the price went up since theres more
'stuff' in the new product.

I can't remember for sure but gut feeling tells me that the price
increase for CF7 was pretty small. Maybe this is a bit of catch-up?

Meh, I'm not worried. Years ago I almost ended up follow a J.D Edwards

I don't really care about the price since I've never had to pay for it
myself and the companies I have worked for have never regarded price
as an issue, but I'll add my 2.5 cents anyway (used to be 2c but I've
recently raised my rates.)

So when was CF7 released anyway? 4 or 5 years ago. Inflation has been
about 3 or 4 % per year since then, so CF8 needs to be priced at least
12% higher just to stay the same in real terms. Bananas go up in
price over the years, cars go up, petrol goes up. Why shouldn't
software go up? The only things that go down in price is stuff that
can be manufactured in China. There is a trend to outsource software
maintainence to low-cost highly-skilled countries like India, but that
has never really caught on when it comes to new product development.

Computer hardware goes down because of improved manufacturing
techniques and increases in economies of scale, but has software ever
followed the same cost curve as hardware? The major cost input to new
software products are labour - the cost of the programmers who write
the code and the best software labourers keep raising their rates.

  So is there anyone out there who charges less than they did when CF7
was released? Tell me Dale, how would you feel about working for the
same rate that you were getting when CF7 was released?

regards,
Stephen

[cfaussie] Coldfusion CFC argument typing

2007-08-01 Thread Rony

Hi all,

I have an OO CF application in which I have declared the CFC
argument(s) type consistently. My types also include objects that i
have created.

I have tested this all on my local machine and all works fine.

However, when testing on the development box, i get the error:

" The argument [objectname] passed to function read is not of type
[objectname]".

Now, I thought maybe its a folder permissions issue ; to no avail.

I have read many articles on the net and followed a few suggestions,
but still the issue comes up.

The weird thing is that it occurs on only two of my components. The
rest of the components work fine using this method/style.

I am using CF7.

Can anyone suggest any reason(s) why this occurs.

Cheers,

[cfaussie] Re: Plug: Australian ColdFusion Channel Pricing Announced

2007-08-01 Thread Dale Fraser
Robin,

Thanks for the info, your pricing is much more competitive.

Adobe US$  Adobe AU$  Rocket AU$

Standard Full$1,299 $2,105 $1,787

Standard Upgrade $649   $1,055 $893

Enterprise Full  $7,499 $12,169$10,003

Enterprise Upgrade   $3,750 $6,085 $4,641

If you look at the Upgrade from CF7 Standard price (which most will be
interested in). There is not much price difference.

$649 / $0.84 = $772 (Exchange Rate)

$772 + 10% = $849 (GST)

$849 vs $893, there might be some other things in there like duty but pretty
close.

I have to ask however, if you can announce Channel pricing and we are
comparing that to US retail, is there US Chanel pricing also, meaning people
in the US get it even cheaper again. I see that Amazon is only marginally
less expensive than the Adobe store.

[cfaussie] Re: Plug: Australian ColdFusion Channel Pricing Announced

2007-08-01 Thread Dale Fraser

Stephen,

It depends on how you look at it, you are not paying 25% for extra features,
you are paying the upgrade price + 25% for the extra features, although this
is Enterprise only.

"There is a trend to outsource software maintenance to low-cost
highly-skilled countries like India, but that has never really caught on
when it comes to new product development."

You obviously have no idea that ColdFusion is developed exactly like this in
India.

"Tell me Dale, how would you feel about working for the same rate that you
were getting when CF7 was released?"

This is a silly argument, if you used the same argument on hardware prices,
then I'd be taking a big pay cut. If you use the same argument on Flex then
I'd be working for Free.

[cfaussie] Recover CFMX7 serial

2007-08-01 Thread schlub

Hello,

I have a client who's webserver OS got fried, and they have had to
reinstall everything from scratch. They backed up the CFusionMX
directoy, but nothing in Windows. They also seem unable to locate
their CF Server CD's or the serial. The CD's aren't a problem as I
have several versions floating around, but obviously the serial number
is.

Does anyone know if this is stored anywhere in the CFusionMX directory
and if there is any way to recover it? I dont really want to tell them
they have to buy a new license!

Cheers,

schlub

If all CF servers on the same network, you can try one serial number
at a time. If it's already used on another server, you'll see a
warning in the server log (something like "another server with the
same serial number found on the network"). Just keep trying until it
stops complaining.

Hello,

I have a client who's webserver OS got fried, and they have had to reinstall
everything from scratch. They backed up the CFusionMX directoy, but nothing
in Windows. They also seem unable to locate their CF Server CD's or the
serial. The CD's aren't a problem as I have several versions floating
around, but obviously the serial number is.

Does anyone know if this is stored anywhere in the CFusionMX directory and
if there is any way to recover it? I dont really want to tell them they have
to buy a new license!

Cheers,

schlub

[cfaussie] Re: Plug: Australian ColdFusion Channel Pricing Announced

2007-08-01 Thread Mark Blair
Steve,

Adobe sells ColdFusion in Australia under a channel model. Briefly the
mechanics of this are

1. Adobe sells ColdFusion to distributors (the primary ones in
Australia being Express Data and Ingram Micro)
2. Resellers buy ColdFusion from distributors
3. Resellers sell ColdFusion to end users.

The only control point Adobe has is the price they sell ColdFusion to
distributors. After this point naturally distributors make their margin
and so do resellers.

All this means you are likely to see a large range of prices for the
same software and Adobe has no control over this. I hope this helps you
understand the differences you are seeing.

I'd be happy to discuss this further with anyone who has further queries

[cfaussie] Re: Custom 404 / missing template cfm - IIS 404 working, CF 404 still returns default

2007-08-01 Thread skateboard.com.au

Hi Ben

Long time since I played with this... but...

Your server may/is sending back a staus code of 404. Some browsers have
their own content they display in case of a 404, rather than the content
you spit back to it. In the past I have needed to force a 200 status
code back to the client to ensure the browser custom html is not used.

cheers

[cfaussie] Custom 404 / missing template cfm - IIS 404 working, CF 404 still returns default

2007-08-01 Thread bsmith

Hi, just trying to set up a missing template page - anyone got a link
to a nice howto?

In case anyone feels like helping me debug, I've set the missing
template handler to "404.cfm" in the cfide/administrator

I've set up IIS to point to the file, this gives the desired result -
when hitting anything other than a .CFM page I see the custom error
message I put in 404.cfm.

But, when hitting ThisFileDoesNotExist.CFM I just get the default CF
404 message: "Error Occurred while processing request".

Any Ideas why this wouldn't be showing the contents of my 404.cfm
page?

Some additional info:

In the "Execution Time" area i can see the desired 404 handler is
being run:
"E:\inetpub\sitename\www\404.cfm"

But I see no output from this file, it looks as if it's just ignored.

I've also tried adding a cfmail to this file to see if it's only
output that's affected - doesn't seem to be running at all.

Thanks, any help appreciated.

Ben.

for ( i = 1; i lte arrayLen( variables.searchWordCollection ); i = i + 1
) {
 variables.title = reReplaceNoCase( variables.title,
"(\b#variables.searchWordCollection[ i ]#\b)", "\1", "all" );
 variables.description = reReplaceNoCase( variables.description,
"(\b#variables.searchWordCollection[ i ]#\b)", "\1", "all" );
}

In your CSS you make a rule that span tags between tags should be
highlighted. Let me know if you need help with that.

[cfaussie] Re: ColdFusion Code Highlighting

2007-08-01 Thread Dale Fraser
Thanks Taco,

But I'm referring to the type of thing that Blog CFC does, formats and color
codes CF code, there is probably a legitimate source for this somewhere.

I have some code here that might help.

variables.searchWordCollection = listToArray( url.search, " " );
variables.title = htmlEditFormat( rsClassified.title );
variables.description = rsClassified.description;
for ( i = 1; i lte arrayLen( variables.searchWordCollection ); i = i + 1
) {
 variables.title = reReplaceNoCase( variables.title,
"(\b#variables.searchWordCollection[ i ]#\b)", "\1", "all" );
 variables.description = reReplaceNoCase( variables.description,
"(\b#variables.searchWordCollection[ i ]#\b)", "\1", "all" );
}

[cfaussie] Re: Custom 404 / missing template cfm - IIS 404 working, CF 404 still returns default

2007-08-01 Thread Taco Fleur
I think that under IIS you need to tick the box "verify that file exists"

Under "home directory" "configuration" double click all extensions and tick
"verify that file exists"

This will allow IIS to check first and pass it on to the 404 handler you
have specified for IIS.

2007-08-01 Thread bsmith

Thanks Drew, Taco

It turned out I did have to tick "verify that file exists" on those
extensions, and also the wildcard app map

cheers!

I saw that also.

there is no docs etc included.
