Man, even I, a die-hard GM fan, am compelled to consider a Dodge truck.
They outperform the GM trucks with price, performance, a far better warranty,
and possibly even quality. I've had very few problems with my GM
trucks (89, 94, 97, 2000), but I'm still considering a Dodge.
WAKE UP GM!

my desk for a 1/2 ton four door Dodge with Hemi engine,Lone Star package
with polished 20" wheels, top of the line Infinity sound system, etc, definitely

at under 25G's. Even a stripped out 2wd, no option anything... probably
would need to specially ordered if ya did... But I could be wrong as I

with just about every engine/trans combo,I can tell you the Hemi Dodge
will smoke a Chevy truck with the 6.0 engine. One truck I drove was a 3/4

2002-12-29 Thread Herbert Lumpp

It's interesting to see I'm not the only
person thinking outside the Chevy box. Even though I'm a die-hard Chevy
fan, my wife gets the A plan price on new Fords and it's hard to pass up that
huge discount.I mustadmit, Chevy is having a harder time
convincing me to buy a new or even a newer used Chevy product these
days.

After I sold my 78 Blazer,I bought a
used Ranger from a Ford dealer. The Ranger came with a 6 year/75,000
milepowertrain warranty. After I decided I needed/wanted a full-size
4x4, I went to the local Chevy dealer to see what they had. Unfortunately,
the used trucks they were selling should have been new considering the frickin'
prices. And to top it off, if the trucks were too old for a factory
warranty to be in effect, they had a measly2 month warranty! That's
pretty sad. Needless to say when I found the 87Jimmy, I snatched
itup for only $2500.

As much as I love my old Chevys, I doubt
I'll ever buy a new one (I have to see the C6 before I can be sure).

2002-12-29 Thread Bill Vander Werf

Thanks for your input. Im afraid I
already covered all the suggestions you made, some of them more than once. The
crank does need a little end play. GM calls for 5 to 7 thousandths. I set mine
up at 7 every time. I had the crank checked out by a different machine shop the
last time and they didnt find anything out of the ordinary.

[EMAIL PROTECTED]
asked if I used ARP main bolts and the oil pump problems that can create. Those are
about the only bolts I didnt use ARP for.

Oil pressure isnt the problem. I
have plenty. I havent had any problems with the bearing surfaces of any
bearings. The only surface with a problem is the rear thrust face of the rear
main. The forward thrust face doesnt even appear to have had any load
put against it. Something is forcing the crank forward with an incredible force
to do the damage it does in such a short time.

Bill,

Check the oil pump carefully. It
must be seated properly.

Also I'd have the crank mic'd
to ensure that it hasn't been turned. If it has, you have to have the proper
undersize bearings or they'll go out everytime. It also may need to be turned
if it's out of round or has any rough spots. Both will cause bearing failure.

Another thing is check the end play
of the crankshaft with all bearings installed. If the crank is moving back
forth it'll kill the thrust bearing.

These are just some ideas, hope they
help.

Don

Thanks for the input. I checked out your
suggestion. I was hoping I might find what you describeno such luck.

I have heard of this same problem and it turned out to
be a clogged oil hole passage. The BB Chevy has oil holes cross drilled in the
block. Some have pipe plugs on the end of the holes one goes thru the oil
filter area. Also on the back of the block if the pipe plugs go in too deep it
can close off the oil hole

Re: [Chevelle-List] Thrust bearing failure

2002-12-29 Thread MICRLASER
I'm just throw this out there because I have seen it before. I'm not sure if your car is an automatic car or not, but if there is something between the tranny bellhousing and the block preventing it from mating up correctly, the tranny will be on an agle which will in turn keep the torque converter from seating into the crank thusly putting quite a bit pressure on the crank. I almost did this myself when I put a new tranny in my Cutlass and did not realize it until I was about to put the dust cover back on. Once again this is only a remote possibility that can happen.

Re: [Chevelle-List] Non Chevelle (Hemi)

2002-12-29 Thread Clint Hooper
My new truck search concentrated on diesel engines as I wanted something
heavy duty enough to pull a car trailer. There are two problems with the
GM Duramax; the engine option costs over $2500 more than the Dodge Cummings
and has not been proven,durability-wise,over the latter. Another problem has
been the Allison transmissions. They have had a lot of breakage. As for
horsepower,I've seen Dodge trucks with 600-700hp and over 1,000 ft/lbs of
torque out there. The Cummings engines are in a very mild state of tune and
bumping one up to 400hp is easy. The only downside to a hot rod diesel is
being required to run a manual trans. The autos just can't handle those
power levels.

[Chevelle-List] termec trany again

2002-12-29 Thread KNUTSONChevelle
A couple of days ago I sent a e-mail asking if anyone knew of when the new design for the 5 speed shifter was going to be completed for 66/67 chevelles. For some reason I lost my connection with the list. I'm back now and was still wondering if there where any replies to my original question.
I want to go with a termec 5 speed o/d for my 66 and want to keep the original console. Last I heard the mod to shifter or the trans was supposed to be completed by last July.
Thanks for your help

bargain. I didn't like the new (back then) F150 styling soI didn't
consider it and still wouldn't. Lastly I drove the Dodge. The value for the
money was excellent, and the 4x4 height was nice. The seats were comfy and
it rode fine. It handled pretty well too. When the lease on that was up last
year, there was not even a moment's hesitation over which new truck I would
buy. I went with the newly designed Ram 4x4 Quad cab sport. I ended up with
$3500in incentives! Pricing was $500 over invoice. The incentives took care
of my down payment and I got 7 year 100,000 mile warranty. IT was a no
brainer! Everyone I talk to that has a new Dodge has nothing but great
things to say about it. If you are in the market for a new truck, I urge you
to go drive a new Dodge. You'll be very surprised. I'm not a die hard fan of
ANY brand. I love my Chevelle but believe me, GM seems to have no loyalty to
me as a classic GM owner, so why should I care if I support them. Plus with
bonehead moves like discontinuing the Caprice and giving all the fleet
business to Ford's Crown Vic (cop cars, cabs etc...) and dropping the
Firechicken and Camaro... well, they're just plain out of the loop! Sorry
for the rant, I'm still drinking my morning coffee! Later
gang...

My new truck search concentrated on diesel engines as I wanted something
heavy duty enough to pull a car trailer. There are two problems with the
GM Duramax; the engine option costs over $2500 more than the Dodge
Cummings
and has not been proven,durability-wise,over the latter. Another problem
has
been the Allison transmissions. They have had a lot of breakage. As for
horsepower,I've seen Dodge trucks with 600-700hp and over 1,000 ft/lbs of

  Hi Clint,

  I guess I can classify my Elky as a Pro-Tourer/G-machine - it's not
really a Pro-Street or drag car.

If you haven't already been to these sights, they have some pretty cool
  cars...

Clint did you ever get the pics of my 65 SS, I sent you?
I guess Chuck is wondering if the "PACE" club of SC will ever make a
Chevell-abration. I was planning to make it this year but will be a crew
member on the #9 car (1917 Studie racecar)in the "Great American
Race" and that takes place, the first of June 03. The race will end up at
Daytona Beach for the Daytona Race. Hope everyone has a grreat new
  years.

Not Chevelle related, but thought you guys would find this
interesting. I'm not on the original mail list, but this mail was
forwarded to me at work. If the link doesn't work for anyone, I have a
copy of the MP3 saved locally I can send on
request. Enjoy! ---Eric Senior

at least it's more entertaining than most. Read below then click
the link above.

First you'll hear a 10-cylinder, 750 horsepower Asiatech F1
engine being warmed up. Then it performs a rousing version
of When The Saints Come Marching In, to the delight of
  assembled pit staff and journalists.

Here's how the magic was achieved (technical/musical details
  via F1 Racing magazine):

As we all know, a V10 engine produces five combustions per
revolution at a frequency per second of 60/(5 x revs per
minute), which equals 12/rpm. Therefore, to work out the
revs you need to hit a particular musical note, you multiply
  the note's frequency by 12. To play a 440Hz 'A', for example,
  you need 5,280rpm. For 'C', use 3,139rpm, for 'F' 4,191rpm,
  and so on.

Asiatech's French technicians (the engine, despite its name,
is derived from a Peugeot design) simply programmed their
engine to run through the various rev/note ranges in the
correct sequence. The result is delightful.

A Merry Christmas to all from the Badger in Kiwiland

No, don't remove those rivets. That "post" is the swivel part of the window. If you have to crank your window open I'm not sure how it comes out. Pull your door panel and you should be able to see how it's connected. I'll look in a couple of my books and see if I can find any info. I'm sure it's not difficult to do.
