2007-04-03 Thread ed
OK. I know I'm late on this, but I'd saved two rear seats from '67's and
planned a diner-type booth in part of the kitchen after a remodel..NOT!
Swap meets were the answer for selling them, but they were thin and had great
upholstry and would have been perfect for the project. It only takes about a
5' space, the usual diner size, unless you want a huge table inside, but
traditionally they were made for the just plated dishes and condiments.

2007-04-03 Thread Devin
Dan- Last I knew you could go down to your local GM dealer and buy all the
pulleys and brackets for a 76 ¾ ton 454 truck as a package for a reasonable
price. They’ll likely be painted black stamped steel, but it should work
just as well as all the shiny expensive aftermarket stuff.

Hi All..

I'm pretty familiar with SBC's, but I now find myself building a 1970
Chevelle SS with a 454 big block.. The engine right now is just a long
block.

I need all the brackets and parts to run the engine, including the P.S Pump,
Alternator, etc..

Does anyone sell a complete kit for this type of thing or will I need to
piece everything together individually.

Thank you very much.

Re: [Chevelle-list] wiring harness

2007-04-03 Thread Devin
Ken- If you’re thinking replacement, I can give you my experiences. I
bought a kit from Painless, that was very involved to install. My original
dash wiring had been “worked on” by every monkey with a pair of pliers since
it was new. I went with the Painless kit because I have full aftermarket
instrumentation in my dash. After having run complete new wires everywhere
I realize I should have gotten the damaged harnesses from M&H and modified
to suite. It would have been far less work.

dash lights, fuel pump, dome light, fuel gauge, etc. either short out or
stopped working completely. Should I try and rebuild the harness myself and
retrace everything or just replace it? Anyone have any info on an
inexpensive wiring harness? Should I replace the whole thing or should i
just replace whats not working? thanks guys.

Re: [Chevelle-list] '68 Grille fitment

2007-04-03 Thread hauge3
Seems Like I had the same problem last year before I took off To
Chevellabration 06, If I remember correctly, I asked for some help on
replacing my grill on my '68, someone told to me all I had to do was to get a
drill because it was that easy !!

My brackets did bend slightly to adjust for side to side. Not sure if it is
correct, but it worked !

Subject: [Chevelle-list] '68 Grille fitment

Had the bumpers done by Tri-City Plating and they look like
mirrors. Made my old original grille look kinda tacky
(scratches, dull, etc), so I bought a NOS grille off of
Ebarf. Painted the black in the middle and installed it with the
little rivets with the nuts on the end. Started installing the
grille extensions and now I got a problem. The right side has about
a 1/4" gap between the end of the grille and the extension, I can't
install the left side extension 'cause it's butting into the grille;
so the whole grille needs to move about 3/16" to the right. The
holes that the grille rivets are in don't have any play to adjust the
grille side-to-side, and it doesn't look like the grille support
brackets are adjustable either (kinda hard to see for sure). How the
heck do I remedy this?? All ideas welcome, good ones are deeply appreciated.

What is your definition of "short out" . Off the top of my head,
those items are not on one fused circuit. I'd recheck for correct
connections behind the dash and look for wires that are crushed between say
the dash panel & frame. If more than 1 fuse blows, I'd replace one at a
time & see what combination causes them to blow.

Check your grounds. Had a similar problem when I put mine together. Make sure

also make sure that the dash frame is fee of paint where it mounts to the body.
If your not sure, try jumping the harness ground to bare metal on the frame.

working completely. Should I try and rebuild the harness myself and retrace
everything or just replace it? Anyone have any info on an inexpensive wiring
harness? Should I replace the whole thing or should i just replace whats not
working? thanks guys.

[Chevelle-list] '68 Grille fitment

2007-04-03 Thread Bill Lessenberry
Had the bumpers done by Tri-City Plating and they look like
mirrors. Made my old original grille look kinda tacky
(scratches, dull, etc), so I bought a NOS grille off of
Ebarf. Painted the black in the middle and installed it with the
little rivets with the nuts on the end. Started installing the
grille extensions and now I got a problem. The right side has about
a 1/4" gap between the end of the grille and the extension, I can't
install the left side extension 'cause it's butting into the grille;
so the whole grille needs to move about 3/16" to the right. The
holes that the grille rivets are in don't have any play to adjust the
grille side-to-side, and it doesn't look like the grille support
brackets are adjustable either (kinda hard to see for sure). How the
heck do I remedy this?? All ideas welcome, good ones are deeply appreciated.

Re: [Chevelle-list] bench seat

2007-04-03 Thread ed
If it is a split front seat you just remove the plastic piece where the seat
folds forward and remove the press on "nut" and then pull the back of the seat
off the peg that sticks out where the nut went on and the whole back piece will
lift out from where in pivots in the center. Do the same on the other side and
remove the tracks on the bottom for the most compact shipping... ER

Re: [Chevelle-list] Starter wiring terminals 72 Chevelle

2007-04-03 Thread Bill Vander Werf
The yellow wire ran up to the coil to supply the points ignition with a full 12
volts for starting. It was energized only when the starter was engaged. If you
are using HEI ignition you don't want this wire connected.

You also want to make sure you don't supply your HEI distributor with power
from the resistor wire that used to power your points type distributor. HEI
needs a full 12 volts.

I have a new harness, with HEI and three wire alternator from M&H. I need to
connect the wires to the starter. It looks like there are 3 or 4 terminals on
the starter. It looks like the S terminal is closest to the engine and the
purple wire goes on that one. The center lug is big and the wire from the
battery goes to that one. There is then a small terminal directly below the
battery lug and one outboard of it. I have two other wires to hook up. One
being a yellow and the other is black I beleive. Which terminals do the
connect to Should have wired this up before putting the headers on.

2007-04-03 Thread D.R. Jones
Fairly common problem for the Ford's. No other way to
fix same, Ford recommends removing the head as the
proper fix. You can buy the fix kit and do it your
self without removing the head with the helicoil much
cheaper then the $800, but it may not hold. Some Ford
service managers will only replace the head with a new
one. I have done the helicoil on them and not had one
come back (fingers crossed).

[Chevelle-list] big block drive accessories

2007-04-03 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Hi All..

I'm pretty familiar with SBC's, but I now find myself building a 1970 Chevelle
SS with a 454 big block.. The engine right now is just a long block.

I need all the brackets and parts to run the engine, including the P.S Pump,
Alternator, etc..

Does anyone sell a complete kit for this type of thing or will I need to piece
everything together individually.

Thank you very much.

hello, just picked up a split bench seat on e - bay, when talking to the
seller he said theres a difference between a 66 and 67, the difference being on
a 66 you can just move the seat and crawl in the back, and on a 67 they lock in
place and one needs to pull up on the bottom lever to release, i have always
had buckets and really not up on the bench seat, was just wondering if this is
true or not, this info may help someone else on the list restoring a 66 or 67
and getting it correct, is the seller correct ?

Re: [Chevelle-list] bench seat

2007-04-03 Thread Matthew Post
on the subject of bench seats.I have one from my '69 in the
garage since I'm switching to buckets. The question is, what should
I do with it? Is it worth trying to sell it? I'm not sure how I
would go about shipping it to someone. Any ideas?

I always wanted to clean it up and bring it in the house, but I'm not
sure that would go over too well with the Mrs. I always thought it
would make a great video game chair. What do you guys think? I'd
feel guilty just tossing it out.

I have a new harness, with HEI and three wire alternator from M&H. I need
to connect the wires to the starter. It looks like there are 3 or 4 terminals
on the starter.

Thanks,

Jim

Re: [Chevelle-list] Spark Plug Wire type

2007-04-03 Thread Malibu
That's right. There's really no need to know how to identify a particular wire
as they're all marked when sold. You could get some old wires and cut them open
to see what inside if you wanted to know. Here is a good article on wires.

I removed the boot and a multi fiber material (looked like a dozen + fiber
threads) was crimped over by the metal end of the wire. Leads me to believe it
is not a solid wire - sound about right?

Do they mean you have to use spiral type???...If so the core kinda
resembles a spring instead of like a solid wire..you should be able to take a
boot off and see...
