Re: [Chevelle-List] engine sensor info
well thanks for the tips guess i will have to log the items you mentioned (temp etc) and try to come up with a pattern Bob Capt Crunch wrote: Well check the basics... then you can check that the injector spray pattern looks ok visually. I'd also check the Throttle body gasket as those like to leak. I assume this is an intermitant problem? Is there any factors you have found related like time running,. temp outside, temp of motor, weather, etc? It would really help to find out what code is being thrown. The best way to check an O2 is with a scope IMO, but there are other ways to test them. Thanks for the help guys . I remembered that one of the members of the chevelle list (John Nasta) runs the oldcarnetwork.com site I ordered the bumper bolt kit from him friday and received it today Monday, the parts look great . I had checked with all the big resto houses year one, the paddock , OPG ausleys and a few others The big boys wanted from the low of 8$ to the high of 12$ just for shipping and 5-7 working days to receive the parts outrageous isn't it! 12 bucks for a set of 15 $ bumper bolts Well Let me recommend you contact the the old car network.com before you order any parts John was very helpful taking the order and charged actual shipping which was less then half of the low of 8 bucks the conglomerates want and i got the parts in 3 days Johns oldcarnetwork.com is the kind of business i think we all want to do business with , good quality parts competitively priced efficient and easy to talk with and he doesn't rip you a new one on shipping and handling ! Re: [Chevelle-List] Vinyl Top Installation
Hey Tom Seats are pretty easy if you buy new foam and vinyl ,also buy the best hog ring pliers you can find that makes it much easier. Sometimes the seat springs themselves may need repair but its a simple process depending on your skill levels. As for the vinyl top you could do it 3 or 4 times before you spend 450$ and doing it is half the fun even if you have to do it 2x to get it perfect . Its a nice feeling when your done and look at the finished product and know you did it for the first time. One point take your time and keep all parts until your completely finished! There are videos out there for seat and top restorations to guide you through the process Check your restoration magazines and on the net . someone may even have one on our chevelle list you could copy or loan check it out and have at it ! you will save a ton of $ and enjoy the process Bob [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Has anyone ever tried to install a vinyl top? I was wondering if it would be worth the trouble to try it myself and save myself $300 (top only cost $60, got a price of $450 to install it). Also, what about installing a set of new seat covers. i got a price to redo the bench & rear seat in my 69 $700, the upholstery cost $240, difference of $460. trying to save myself some $$ here!! All those prices reflect the upholsterer buying the material. Tom

[Chevelle-List] Another thm400 question
Help Rich! I am about to pull the pan off the 400 i have and noticed you seem to be the guy with the answers on 400s the tag on my 400 has a large c on the left side of the tag and a large a on the right side of the tag and down belo is 68 and another ca and a serial Does theis mean its from a 68 396 if so any suggestions on what info i should look for on the valve body and any beef up suggestions would be greatly appreciated tks Bob 67ss396 (in PIECES) Richard Milkiewicz wrote: GOT IT! I had a friend at work go see an engineer he knows that is a pack rat. Saved everything for the past 35 years. He's getting ready to retire and I sure would like to talk him in to giving me his stuff. We'll see. But this is what I've been able to find out. It's not much but at least you'll know something about it. Your trans was installed in a Chevy or GMC pick-me-up. It was backed up by a 350 c.i.d. engine. Probably 255 horse power with a four barrel. Hope this helps you. Very good trans and VERY upgradeable. A simple change of wave plates and a couple of other parts and you got a trans that will handle lots of power. If your interested let me know. I'll tell you what you need.Rich - Original Message - From: Kent Lewis To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Friday, March 29, 2002 2:04 AM Subject: Re: [Chevelle-List] Four Speed to Automatic (ATTN: Kent) Rich, No, I do not have the original torque convertor. The transmission was acquired through a "core exchange" back in 1988 from a gentleman that rebuilt transmissions in his spare time. It has the tag on the passenger side, but I have not been able to locate a pad on the passenger's side. There is a pad on the driver's side, towards the middle (front-back) right above transmission pan, that looks like what you were referring too. Only there is no number, or any sign of a previous stamping (?). Since the trans has been rebuilt, at least twice now, perhaps the valve body has been altered/changed since it was new. Perhaps it was an"over-the-counter" trans or a warranty exchange. Corvette ? If you find out anything, please let me know. You have my curiosity peeked. Kent'68 Malibu ZZ502/502 :)ACES #5102Kent, I still can't find a CT trans code. This is very strange. Do you have the original torque converter? On it will be 1 or 2 letters stamped on it. Give me those letters and I will be able to tell you at least if it was a high performance. If you have the part # from the valve body I can look that up also. We used about 10 or 11 different valve bodies for different applications. I should clear something up for the list. When I said all transmissions for Chevy started with a "C" I was talking about 400 THM and 375's. The 350 can have just about any prefix letter. Also on your 400 Kent, on the passenger side just above the pan will be a machined pad. There will be a vin. # there stamped at the car plant. This is the car the trans went into. You may be able to get some information from that number. Other than that, I can't help much more. BUT my curiosity is piqued on the "CT" code and I will continue to search this out. Sorry, that's the best I can do.Rich

Looking at the playlist, I saw a song from 1966 by Paul Revere & the Raiders title "SS 396". I was around then, and into cars and music, but I never heard of this song and I wasn't about to spend $80 to hear it. I did the next best thing and searched the internet. It was made as a promotional 45 single for Chevy dealers and had a Corvair single on the B-side. It's very 60's California surfer/car music and sounds more like Jan and Dean than Paul Revere & the Raiders. (At this point, there's probably a lot of people out there saying "who the hell is he talking about and what's a 45?) Anyway, the lyrics follow: SS 396 (L. Adessa/V. Benay)Forget about your Hemis & your GTOs I've got a new machine & she really goes Gonna pass you in the drags & you know darn well Gettin' beaten by a Porcupine V8 Chevelle Draggin' it up now, you'd better be quick Nothin' could outrun my SS 396 There's lots of chrome goodies sittin' under the hood She looks real pretty like a tough one should On her red-line tires, she sits real mean She's the coolest hot one you've ever seen Crusin' the highways, I get my kicks Everybody's diggin' my SS 396 (x2): Look at her go (look at her go) She sits real low (she sits real low) Feel her tires grip the road Big green Ford (big green Ford) & won't let herself show (let herself show) Feel the rear end down below I'll take you for a ride & it's really a treat Just strap yourself into a bucket seat & the 4-speed Tranny is startin' to wind We'll know that Super Sport wants to get off the line Crusin' the highways, I get my kicks Nothin' can match my SS 396(repeat title & fade) (I didn't write the lyrics, so I can't defend them, and I have no idea what they mean by a "Porcupine V8".)I found a 47 second Real Audio (.ram) clip and one of the young studs who works for me found the full song (2 minutes, 27 seconds) in .mp3 format at one of his music network websites. He says it's definitely rare because the music search engine took an hour to find it. After you listen to it a few times, it really grows on you. If anyone wants a copy of either file (or both), let me know and I'll email it off-list over the weekend. The .ram file is 191 kB and the .mp3 file is 2.3 mB. I connect with a 56K modem, so I'd like to send it out just a couple of times. But I'll be happy to send it to anyone who wants it.Mike
