Boy in the late 60's I was trying to buy a 64 SS with a 409...but a friend 
beat me to it. The 1st thing everybody did back then was to junk them old 409 
and put in a 427. Now people are finding out that these old boat anchors 
wern't that bad, and restores are always looking for them. 

I'd say the car sounds like a good deal ( although I'm not sure of the 
price).

Debuted 1961, dropped mid 1965 model year.  The 348 and 409 W-Blocks are very 
unique engines; the cylinder itself was used as part of the combustion chamber.

Buy it.  It'd be a killer investment.  Notice that you can't find any on e-bay.  Rare. 
 When you do see them on ebay.  Expensive.

Very cool ride.  My father had a '64 409.  Talks about it everyday.  And I make sure 
he really regrets trading it in. :)

The 409 was a good engine, not as good as 
the newer big blocks but it still made 425hp. It is a very rare engine today 
& very valuable if it's in good condition. Parts are rare & expensive 
though.

The 409 is a good strong engine. It is not the greatest design compared to 
the big block Chevy and is on the heavy side but it made 425 Hp as a 427 cu 
in Z-11 engine and won many drag races in the early sixties.
