Re: Line Protocol Down Status

2000-05-15 Thread Sadguna Kumar Dasari

Sadguna Kumar Dasari kdasari#[EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote in message news:...
 Hi Folks:

This is self-study lab kind of deal. I have an AGS+ router with 6 serial
ports and three 2500 series routers. I connected Serial 0 int on each of
these 2500 routers to Serial 2, 3, and 4 of AGS+. DCE in each case is on
AGS. Clock rate set. The Interface is up on all these interfaces but line
protocol is down. It is pretty simple config as I am just setting this up.
I
can't figure out what the problem is.

As a general question what causes the Interface to up and the line
protocol
to be down. I tried to ping the ip number given to these interfaces from
the
same router and I didn't get any response back. Is this because the line
protocol is down. In the int config mode of these interfaces I added
loopback command and pinged the int again but no answer. What could be the
 problem?

Unfortunately, I don't exactly remember which serial int on AGS connects
to
which Serial 0 on which 2500 routers. But since it is straight forward
connection, I switched the ip numbers on the interfaces around to see
where
the connection would be made. For example i configure s0 on the r1 (first
 2500 rourter) with 192.1.3.1/24 and try 192.1.3.2/24 on s2, s3, and s4
respectively on AGS+. But none of them would work. All 2500 runnig 11.3(x)
version of IOS and AGS is 11.0(22). Encapsulation on both ends is the
 default hdlc.

I attached the command output as a seperate txt file. Can some body help
me
figure out the problem? Any help is appreciated.

 Cheers
 Kumar Dasari

You should be able to ping the local end if your using point-to-point
subinterface. For multipoint and no sub-interfaces you need to use a local
mapping.

Hi all,

I know this have been on the list but I can't find it in my message
archives right now.

I can do a ping on a remote ip address of a frame-relay configured link
but not on the peer ip address of the local interface.

Why is that?

In case of a hdlc/ppp configured link - I can do a ping on both ip
addresses of the link.

Thx a lot.

RE: How to enable the telnet on NT Box

2000-05-15 Thread Ray Mosely

And the telnet deamon is built into Windows 2000 Professional (workstation).
I didn't know that, and put a trial telnet service on my W2K workstation,
and
screwed it up when it timed out. Another workstation I've got works fine,
and
my original works fine also, without the aftermarket telnet service.

For cheap legal copies of W2K, go to www.microsoft.com and search for
"HOT kits".

The telnet client is part of the standard install. Just run telnet ip
address.

The telnet service/deamon (telnetd) was in one of the resource kits and has
to added seperately.

Hi

Well depends if you are talking about NT acting as a telnet client or telnet
server...

The TCP/IP stack in NT has a built-in telnet client, just type telnet from a
command prompt.

There is no native telnet server in NT 4.0, however if you go to
32bit.bhs.com or www.winfiles.com and search for telnet, you will find
several thrid party telnet servers for NT 4.

If you have Win2K there is a telnet server built-in.

Re: WildCard Masks

2000-05-15 Thread Henrique Issamu Terada

Hi Robert

Actually , wildcard bits means which bits router should verify , or ignore,
when analyse an incoming or ourgoing packet.
So , if you use
access-list 1 permit 172.16.0.0 0.0.255.255
, it means that all packets with source address 172.16.0.0 should be
permitted.
If you use access-list 1 permit 172.16.0.0 0.0.15.255 , it means that
router must verify the first's 4 bits, and ignore the last four bits of the
third octet.

Best regards

several entries like this one. Is there something I don't know or is this

 Thx a lot.

RE: Exam objectives for BCMSN test

2000-05-15 Thread Dale Cantrell

Good advice Cory. Also, if you can ever get on GlobalKnowledges' snail
mailing list, they send a huge brochure that has what I consider the
objectives mapped out really well. Some of the brochures have alot
of labs described, and if you can read between the lines, you can almost
imagine what their talking about...kinda like me. :)

Cisco isn't providing objectives for the new tests. They don't want to
become like Microsoft with all of the paper MCSEs. My advice is go by the
old objectives and then also go out to ARG or Global Knowledges web site and
go by their training material what is being covered.

 No

This is related with a software problem.
See the command show stack, and you'll see some stack traces about it.
Open a case at Cisco TAC, for help.
Otherwise, which IOS are you running ?

Does it have to do with any hardware problem?

Final Prep...Need some pointers...Please

2000-05-15 Thread CiscoEssentials

Hey Group,
I'll keep it short. I'm going to write my CCNA in exactly one week and
need some pointers. This is going to be my first cert test and I dont know
how to cram...lol. Should I read the book over again? Should I go over the
hundreds of practice questions that I've collected? Should I telnet into the
groupstudy router? Should I go over the "main" topics? Should I just sleep?
lol ;) I'm nervous as all hell and never had to "cram" before so I just want
to know the best way to do it and not waste my precious time (1 week). Please
help me out and give me, what you think, is my best route to take. Thanks
alot guys/ladies and I hope your tips help. ~Mark Z.~

Re: PacBell DSL, PPPoE Cisco routers

2000-05-15 Thread Sadguna Kumar Dasari

First on PPPoE, you can read about PPPoE at
http://www.cisco.com/univercd/cc/td/doc/product/software/ios120/120newft/120
limit/120dc/120dc3/pppoe.htm and about windows specific software details at
http://www.carricksolutions.com/windowspppoe.htm

Regarding the router, do you mean you wnat to replace the speedtouch with a
router? For this type of service you need to use one of the DSL CPEs, often
referred to as DSL modems. Ciscos 6xx line, and if PacBell I think 677 is
what you should consider. But if you want to use a router inside the network
that is connected to the Internet via one of these Alacatel CPEs, yes you
can.

Kumar Dasari

"Bharat Suneja" [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote in message
8fi3gk$3fd$[EMAIL PROTECTED]">news:8fi3gk$3fd$[EMAIL PROTECTED]...
Where can I get more information about PPPoE (PPP over Ethernet) ? This is
the protocol that PacBell uses for providing DSL services. PacBell uses a
Alcatel Speed Touch Home hi-speed modem.

 Can I use a router with this set-up ? How ?

 Thanks,
