bri into ei PRI interface [7:8130]

2001-06-12 Thread Cisco Study

Hi all,

We have a 3640 with E1 interface. I have been asked to
find out if we can use this interface with BRI instead
of PRI, to save costs, as it is only a backup link for
20 people.

Any hints/suggestions welcome.

Cheers,

Symon

OSPF area 0 [7:45995]

2002-06-06 Thread Cisco Study

Hi group,

Is there any condition that OSPF area 0 must be contiguous?.

I remembered read this some where on CCO. Is this true?. For a situation,
three ospf routers connected in a triangle shape, what if one of the link
goes down?.

Any one experienced on this situation, please show me some documents related
to this?.

Thanks in advance,

J.

Brian,
If you have full meshed IBGP sessions then r1 will automatically get the
route to 12.X.X.X in case link to UUNET failed. Or you have to use r1 and r2
as the route reflectors.
Hope this helps,

I have 2 sites. We currently get full routing tables from uunet and AT&T
into a single router. We want to put a second router at another site and
run IBGP between just those two. We will have two routers between the two
running BGP. I guess it would look something like this:

site1-r1(bgp)---r2---r3---r4(bgp)-site2

R1 will get UUnet, r4 will get at&t. R1(UUNet) is being used as primary.
Behind R1 is our HQ. Behind r4 is a large branch.
My concern would be if the link to UUnet goes down, how does traffic from
site 1 get out r4.

Scenario:
User pings 12.x.x.x This is unknown on site 1, so it goes to r1. UUnet is
down, so the route is pointing to r4 (ibgp). The packet still has a
destination address of 12.x.x.x, but how does r2 know what to do with this
packet? It doesn't know where 12.x.x.x is?

Someone here at work brought this up to me and I keep saying that the ibgp
session gets established, so when you look at the table on r1 for 12.x.x.x,
the next hop is the interface of r4. He keeps saying, 'yeah, but when that
packet gets to r2, the destination is 12.x.x.x, which it doesn't know.'

All of this can be solved if someone tells me that we just need to run ibgp
on all 4 routers and i shouldn't see a performance hit. I am worried
because these routers are going to be routing user traffic between the sites.

Thanks,

As far as IBGP next-hop-self is nothing. This is only useful while
injecting the ebgp routes inside an AS. Your config looks OK.
Thanks

router bgp 40

neighbor 2.2.2.2 update-source Loopback0

On the client side I see the bgp route for the othter client, but the route
is not being inserted into the routing table.
I get the following output from one of the clients. Even though I have the
"next-hop-self" command on the server, it still shows the next hop of the
loopback interface of the other client router.

RE: Dual Link redundancy .... [7:47854]

2002-07-06 Thread Cisco Study

Hi Paul,
Looks like it is IOS based switch then you have to try some thing like
this..
int Fast x/x
speed 100
duplex full
switchport trunk encapsulation YYY wrote: Hi Paul,

The 3524-XL is not a set based switch. It is an IOS based switch. The
commands would be different. Don't have access to internet / documentation
right now but it would be done under each 'interface' ie. Fastethernet 0/2
etc

Thanks

Can't I use the port group 1 distribution destination on both switches ???

I tried using set trunk ... but the switch did'nt understand the command ...
the switch is running Version 12.0(5.3) and it is a WS-C3524-XL. I tried
running the set trunk command from global config and int config mode do
I assume that this will only run on a router and not a switch ??? and
if so .. do I need to use the port group 1 distribution destination on both
switches ???

Thankx

Paul ...

Re: How to get the Cisco Doc CD [7:51164]

2002-08-10 Thread Cisco Study

I got one for free, as I have CCO login. This CD worked only temporarily and
now it says License expired. I never told the license is temporary while
installing. Has any one experienced this?.
Thanks

Yes, you can buy one (don't know what it costs, offhand). Or you can
just buy any Cisco product; it'll have a copy of it delivered with it.

Every month.

Not that I am aware of.

Re: Need Help : Reverse Telnet [7:51162]

2002-08-10 Thread Cisco Study

You should try telenetting 172.1.1.1 2001.
Thanks
 John McCartney wrote:Hi all,

I am in need of some help from you guru's with reverse telnet using a 2509.
I haven't had to use it yet and I'm trying to get it working on my home lab.

I set up a 2501_A to reverse telnet into a 2509 and from there I want to go
into another 2501_B. I have set up the following:

on 2501_A:
===
interface Loopback0
ip address 10.0.0.1 255.0.0.0

line con 0
password x
login
transport input pad v120 telnet rlogin udptn
line aux 0
modem InOut
transport preferred none
transport input all
speed 19200
flowcontrol hardware
line vty 0 4
login

2509:

interface Loopback0
ip address 172.1.1.1 255.0.0.0
!

!
interface Async1
ip unnumbered Loopback0
ip tcp header-compression passive
async dynamic address
async mode interactive
.

line con 0
line 1 8
session-timeout 20
no exec
exec-timeout 0 0
session-limit 3
modem InOut
transport input all
flowcontrol hardware
line aux 0
modem InOut
transport preferred telnet
transport input all
rxspeed 38400
txspeed 38400
flowcontrol hardware
line vty 0 4
exec-timeout 60 0
password x
login

when I do a telnet 10.0.0.1 2001 it gives me :

Router_A#telnet 10.0.0.1 2001
Trying 10.0.0.1, 2001 ... Open

I hit return and nothing happens and I can't do anything from there except
exit out CTRL-SHFT-6-x. How do I get from the TS to the other 2501..Are my
cfg's missing something? does anyone have a working cfg that I could look at
and tell me the right cabling needed. I have the octal cable plugged into
2501_B CON is that right? I also have a stright thru from 2501_A AUX to 2509
CON. Thanks

Re: BGP and Load Balancing [7:54297]

2002-09-26 Thread Cisco Study

BGP has the option max-paths which allows to have multiple paths. If it is
ebgp we can also achieve this with ebgp multi-hop.wheather it is max-paths
or multi-hop or static routes most of the time CEF is the ultimate that
influence the interface switching. CEF FIB table will be calculated based on
the routing table.CEF has limitation of 8 paths so one can have only maximum
8 paths at any given time.
BGP is preferred when there is a need for dynamic routing updates and policy
changes. If the situation is in small environment and static, there are the
cases where static routes are preferred considering the systems rources and
router configuration complexties.

Can any one out there shed some light!! BGP selects only one path, is it
not? But that load-balancing can be achieved through static routes??
