CCIE STUDY GEAR

2000-09-15 Thread FRS

Hi all,

I need to buy some CCIE Study Gear. Can anyone recommend a place I can get
used Routers and Switches from at decent prices so that I can build my
personal lab?
I have tried some people that have advertised on the list but they either
could not supply or were out of stock.

Many thanks,

Ok archives are down and I didn't find anything is
my personal copy from the last 2 weeks. So here are my ??'s
What is a good book for administering PIX firewall?
I have a basic understanding of everything from someone who went to the class
and I have done some maintenance but I'm looking for a more in-depth
understanding. Doesn't matter whether it helps with Certification directly but
would be a plus. I'm guessing that's what the Security specialization

LAYER 3 SWITCHING

2000-09-27 Thread FRS

I need some help in understanding Layer 3 Switching.

1. What does the process Layer 3 switching refer to?

2. Is it packets or frames being switched out of interfaces or ports?

3. Using the 2948G-L3 as an example, how is the switching determined - by
Routing table or CAM table?

All help is appreciated.

Title: Juniper

I heard the Juniper is optimized for the Core
whereas Cisco excels in Core, Distribution and Access.
Should we not all be designing IOS-to-IOS solutions
for our clients considering the ROI with Cisco Gear?
OTOH, as in the case in client-server ... Novell
optimized for File and Print sharing and NT for Applications ... should we use
Juniper for the Core and Cisco everywhere else?

Token Ring

2000-10-08 Thread FRS

Hi everyone,

Just messing around with a router did a show int token 0 command says:
Interface up, Line protocol down.
When you issue the no shut command on the interface it still says Interface
up, Line protocol down. Why is this?

Thanks.

Re: Token Ring

No, I don't have it inserted into a ring yet. Maybe that's the problem!
So the Interface first has to be inserted into the ring before it shows UP,
UP!

Thanks for all the help!

When a bridge comes online for the first time, does it use the source MAC

CCIE Lab - ISDN Simulator

2000-10-19 Thread FRS

Hi,

I am looking for recommendations for a ISDN simulator in preparation for the
CCIE Lab exam. Is there a simulator used in the lab exam and if yes, what
type?
I have heard that I should get an Adtran Atlas 800 Switch with 2 BRI
interfaces. Does anyone know the estimated cost of this unit, used not new?
All advice is appreciated.

Thank you

Dial Backup

Hi all,

I need your input here.
I have 4 remote sites that are connected to HQ via FR as the primary WAN
connection.
I need to have ISDN DDR for all remote sites to HQ in case a FR circuit goes

On the BRI interface at HQ ... I only need 1 ip address right?
Can I get the HQ router to assign dynamic ip addresses to the remote site's
bri interfaces ...

I would appreciate it if you could point me to references on CCO regarding
this scenario ...

Thanks much,

HELP! ISDN DDR

2000-10-25 Thread FRS

Hi,

I have 4 sites reporting back to Corp over FR
I need to implement ISDN backup to all sites
How do I get the single Corp BRI interface to accept the different remote
BRI ip addresses and route accordingly ... I am running RIP

righ now, only one remote sites is configured as:

int bri0/0
ip x.x.3.2 255.255.255.0
no ip directed broadcast
encap ppp
dialer string 123456789
dialer string 987654321
dialer-group 1
isdn switch-type basic-5ess
isdn spid1 12345678901
isdn spid2 98765432101
ppp auth chap
ppp multilink

corp config:

int bri5/0
ip x.x.3.1 255.255.255.0
no logging event-subif-link-status
isdn spid1 998887776554
isdn spid2 887766554321
dialer-group 1
no fair-queue
ppp auth chap
ppp multilink

the ip addresses of the other remote site's bri are x.x.4.2/24 ,
x.x.6.2/24, etc.

my question is :

how do i get the configure the corp bri interface to recognise x.x.4.2,
x.x.5.2, x.x.6.2 etc ... as it is now only configured for x.x.3.2

or does this not matter

please help!

thanks

Protocol Analysers

2000-07-26 Thread FRS

Hi,

I am looking for a suitable protocol analyzer that I can use with Windows
2000. I have tried NetXRay but it is incompatible with Win 2k.
On a side note, does anyone know where I can obtain a trial copy of
CiscoWorks 2000 because CCO does not offer it.

Thanks.

CCIE R+S Written

2000-08-02 Thread FRS

Hi Everyone,

I have scheduled to take the CCIE Routing and Switching Written Exam 350-001
for August 31 2000.
Would you please be so kind as to send me any information that will help me
prepare for this exam?
I have heard that I need to concentrate on DLSW+, RSRB and knowing how to
read RIFs.
All responses will be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks.
