That quote would help if we knew the IOS feature set they used in the lab.
Do they use the ipsec ios feature set on the lab routers. Without breaking
the NDA do you recall what IOS set they used. If they dont use the ipsec
ios then it really cant be configured on a router so it would not be on the
lab test.

Just my 2 cents

I have heard that they have some IP Security on the CCIE Routing and

it

 Hello Everyone,

I have an 1605 with two ethernet interfaces. Is it possible to configure
one of the ethernet interface's so that it connects to the ISP's cable
modem, and is able to obtain an IP address via the ISP's DHCP server.

I currently have licences for 3 PCs, that obtain an IP when connecting to
the ISP via cable. However, I would like to set up a LAN with more
devices
that do not need Internet access. So I would like to IP the 3 PCs with a
private address, and when connecting to the Internet I would like to use
the
1605 to NAT and provide the gateway to the Internet.

Looking at the archives, I saw a mention about Easy IP, but I don't think
 this will do the job.

Any suggestion would be greatly appriciated, and if anyone knows of
another
product (I would prefer Cisco) that will allow me to connect in this
manner.

 Thanks so much

Re: VPN troubles [7:10714]

2001-07-02 Thread G30RG3

The reason you cant ping from the router itself is that when you specified
what traffic to encrypt and send to the tunnel you only specified the
subnets behind the firewall and router. If you try and ping the other side
it will not go through the tunnel because it is not a match on the
access-list. That is one of the reasons. I cant say that is the only
reason cuz I don't know what your configs look like.

Hope that helps

 router.

I suspect a routing issue. When I try to add a route to tell it anything
going to the other end should use that IP on that interface, it gives an
error saying invalid hop because it's on that router.

 Any ideas?

 A little info:
Remote network has 10.43.2.0/24 but gateway is a secondary IP on the
internal FastEthernet interface of a 2600.
Central network is 10.43.1.0/24 on a PIX 515.
Future networks will be on the 10.x.y.z network centralize to the PIX
 rack.

The problem I'm trying to solve is making the remote routers authenticate
over the VPN to TACACS+ for the enable password. If I can't ping the box
because it's trying to bo out the default route, it won't work.

If you read that article it gives the idea that this could stop the internet
from working. Let me just say that if there is an ISP or Tier 1 provider
out there that has http enabled on there router, then they should get hacked
and brought down for being stupid. They make it seem that you need http
enabled on your routers to work when in reality no one probably even uses it
in a production environment. This is the equivalent of an NT administrator
installing a server and leaving the guest account active with no password.
Yes it would get hacked and bring down the whole network but in the real

Re: let's talk about BGP! [7:10297]

2001-06-29 Thread G30RG3

If you are in a hub and spoke environment and your hub is your as border
router that is getting external routes then by default it will forward all
external routes to its internal BGP neighbor routers. The purpose of route
reflectors is to have internal BGP routers that do not have a interior
neighbor relationship with the border router get those external routes from
a route reflector. if you want to try this do it this way. leave your
setup like it is and add another internal router and run bgp. have it only
build a neighbor relationship with a spoke router. then on that spoke
router add the route reflector statements to it. also your spoke routers
are advertising the same networks that your hub router is advertising. I
got the impression that you wanted these to be running ibgp not connecting
to an ebgp router.

Hope this helps.

Maybe I am just misunderstanding your answer but you can alter the flash
when the router is booted up normally. If you type the command copy tftp

flash and put the new one in. By erasing the flash and writing the new one

I'll assume that you are referring to a 2500 series router. Keep in mind
that a 2500 runs from Flash. You can't alter the Flash while it is in use.
Change the configuration register to 0x2101 and reload. It will then boot
from ROM as router(boot). The Flash will then be R/W.
Check on CCO for instructions on updating IOS for a more full explanation.

It depends on yoour clients need and budget. you can do Cisco IOS based VPN
if they have an existing router and use secure remote client to access the
network. That is probably going to be your least expensive route. You can
also go with a concentrator like vpn 3000 it is strictly for VPNs and is
easier to configure. It just depends on the customers need and budget.

Re: 2611 dial out [7:7278]

You have to use DDR and dialer profiles and specify interesting traffic.
Here is a good link to get you started with some sample configs. Hope this
helps.

 All,

I currently have a 2611 with a 3COM modem connected to the AUX port.

The below is my configuration, I suppose what I need is a way to have the
router tell the modem to dial the details in my async interface. I'm not
exactly sure what I've done wrong but somethings not right :)

Could someone enlighten me on the best way to have my router dial out and
establish a ppp connection via authentication as well.

I have been unable to find sufficent information on the TAC pages of CISCO
 hopefully someone can help.

 Thanks
 Brandon

Pinout for older cat1900 switch [7:7029]

2001-06-03 Thread G30RG3

Does anyone know the pinouts or the connectors/cables you would use on the
older 1900 catalyst switch with the DB-9 connector as the console port. I
have been to the cisco site and it seems I can use regular DB-9 connectors
with a rollover cable but it doesnt work. Maybe there is a trick to them.
Any help would be appreciated.

TIA!
