CiscoWorks2000 processes halt

2001-01-28 Thread Georg Naggies

encouraged by the recent rise in postings about CiscoWorks2000, I want to
add my own complaint -- ehh, question.
has anyone seen the problem that processes, as visible through the "Process
Status", halt just like this, without reason - has anyone got a solution?
our platform is sun solaris OS5.6

Re: Extremely Odd Routing resolved, sort of...

2001-02-02 Thread Georg Naggies

i had a somewhat if not entirely similar problem - eigrp preferring the bit
bucket if one of two parallel links is down.
fixed it with a "no auto summmary" i believe, an then i did not spend more
thought
ios version & ip classless settings slipped my memory

well that is all just to say thanks for your post, it had been interesting
for me

why would SNA be much slower than IP?

2001-01-03 Thread Georg Naggies

We have a customer who uses the same AS400 Server remotely
- with terminals, and
- with PCs.

He tells me the terminals connect via SNA, and the PCs via IP.
Now he complains of SNA slowness.
On the WAN side, we have two ciscos and frame relay in between, as well as
dlsw for the SNA.

Is there anybody who has a recent memory of resources which deal with dlsw
performance?

Sincerely
GNaggies

very much looking for arrowpoint mibs [7:37982]

2002-03-12 Thread Georg Naggies

we have a CSS11550, I think it is called, and we are missing the mibs to
manage the thing.

I found to my own surprise the software image to be one huge textfile, where
very interesting mibs were hidden. Those could be extracted easily with copy
and paste.

The thing is that all those mib-files depend upon one mib called APENT-MIB
which unfortunately isn't in there, and thus all the others cannot be
compiled either.

In the usual place, on ftp.cisco.com/pub/mibs/ there is nothing to be found.

I basically would like to graph in Mrtg some of those nice sounding values
from the "flowMgrExt.mib"

Anyone who has a hint?

Regards, Georg

Aaaarrgg! CiscoWorks2000/RME Troubles [7:31012]

2002-01-05 Thread Georg Naggies

maybe one on this list has had this happen to him and can console me or
maybe I can warn someone not to do what I have done and what led to all the
password in our ciscoworks installation to be overwritten with wrong ones
never try the "change attributes" function, not even for user fields! I did,
wanting all our routers (~ 1400) to be designated as such, so as to be able
to distinguish the routers from the switches in a exported list of the
inventory. this took endlessly
then looking on the inventory file I was seriously flabbergasted to note
that all the telnet passwords have been overwritten with the passwords of
the one device which happened to be first on the list. no fun. no, I didn't
do it accidentaly, there is no way to the "change passwords" screen if
"change user fields" only is checked on the previous screen.

by the way, is there someone at all who thinks RME is a useful tool, not for
a few routers, but for say a few thousands? I got a bad feeling after 1 1/2
years experience with flaky and weird behaviour of the thing. for example
all the "device attribute errors" from devices which have their credentials
perfectly correctly stored.
from Campus Manager on the other hand I got the feeling that it behaves more
predictably and reliably, as well as the Cisco View part.

perhaps there are other users who can tell me their experience

cheers georg

No for that purpose it doesn't matter if you disable console or buffer
logging, in my opinion.
Do you see the messages in the file the syslogd on the server is writing
into?
(cat syslog.file | grep name_of_the_device_you_are_looking_for)
if yes, check for filters in the CW syslog analysis setup.
if no, could be anything, do you have routing etc. ok?
firewall, access-lists ...
good luck georg

nothing special behind those concepts, it just is what it says, read-only
and -read-write access. there are some snmp-operations with which you can
for example configure a device - this would need read-write access.

traps are a different question from the read/read-write question.

it depends on what functionality you want from the network management
software. for almost all things read-only access is sufficient.

on the question of traps:
I found most things traps can do, syslog-messages can do as well.

Hello!
Check the interfaces indices mrtg uses in the mrtg.conf, and check the
indices the router knows of via a
"snmpwalk ip.add.re.ss community ifDescr"
(that's how you would do it with ucd-snmp on Linux, as an example)
