Would anyone be interested in using a custom telnet application that has
some built-in macros? (sh ip route, some initial setup stuff, automated
switching between devices on a comm-server, etc)

If you're interested in something like this, please RESPOND to this message
on Groupstudy with your email address. If there's enough of a response,
I'll write the app and email it to you when it's done.

Also, if you want to suggest some custom macro's or custom features,
include
them in your post.

thanks,

Terminal Server [7:26624]

2001-11-17 Thread Mark Rose

I am trying to get a terminal server working. It was working several months
ago but when I tried to bring it up today, I get the message %3 is not an
open connection. I do not have enough experience to know what is not
working, I could use some help, also an explanation of what is happening so
I will fully understand what I have missed.

Thanks for your help

Connecting Serial Interfaces [7:5838]

2001-05-24 Thread Mark Rose

I am trying to set up a serial link between a 2514 and a 2522. I am using
the sync/async ports on the 2522. I cannot get the interface to stay up . It
works for a few seconds then too many errors take down the link.

I used the physical-layer sync command on the serial ports of the 2522. This
does not help. I know that I have missed a command to set up the sync/async
interface, but cannot figure what it is.

Advise is needed

Terminal Server [7:5149]

2001-05-19 Thread Mark Rose

I have a 2511 set up as a terminal server According to the Cisco
documentation on Configuring a terminal server, the escape sequence is
Ctrl-Shift-6-x. This doesn't work. I can make the connection to west but I
cannot use the esc sequence to jump back to the 2511 (I am using

The esc seq gives me a blank line if I hit return the west prompt appears
again. I am not sure if I am missing a command on the west router. Can
someone make a suggestion or steer me in the right direction? I would
appreciate the help?

RE: Terminal Server [7:5149]

2001-05-19 Thread Mark Rose

The sequence of hitting ctrl-shift-6 then release all 3 keys and quickly hit
'x' works. I go back to the 2511 can change sessions. This brought up
another question. Once I get a session running on a second or third router,
how do you terminate a session while leaving the others (or just the
original telnet to the access router running).

As always the help is appreciated by all people who help with advice.

Mark,

When you get the blank line, then press enter and end up back at the west
router, do you have a Resuming connection to xxx... line before west's
router prompt? If not, I dont think the escape sequence is being
acknowledged. When you input the command, do ctrl-shift-6, then release all
3 keys and quickly hit 'x'. Kind of a moot point here, but in some cases
(say an AIX box with a 3151 terminal), only the left ctrl key can be used..

Another thing to try would be hitting the spacebar when you get the blank
line instead of enter. If the escape sequence IS working, then the enter
key is taking you back again, and spacebar may cause the prompt to display.

I am investigating using cable ISP for service with a static IP. They give
you a Cisco uBR 924 router. I am not sure if they will password the router
or not. I searched the Cisco site did not find password recovery info with
others listed. I have done this on a 2500 series router. Has anyone
recovered password on this 924? Can I get instructions?

RE: Token-Ring DB9 to RJ-45 adapter [7:374]

2001-04-12 Thread Mark Rose

A while back a dmichaels [[EMAIL PROTECTED]] was selling cables with
IBM Type 1 to DB-9 Token at the other end for $5 each plus shipping. The
only catch was that you had to buy 4 or 5. He was easy to work with and very
helpful.

A couple of weeks ago, I wandered through the inventory area of a local wire
and cable supply outlet. I noticed they had several Token Ring media
filters.
Since there's no demand for them from corporate customers (and hasn't been
for
quite some time), they offered to give them away for free because all these
devices are currently doing is taking up space in their office.

Check with your local wire and cable company - see if they've got any they'd
like to part with. The price just might be right. (There's that old
saying... one man's trash is another man's treasure...).

They are called Media Filters. A search using media filter on
  google.com
turned up several companies. But yes they are getting hard to
  find and the
price is going up all the time.

Does anyone know where I can purchase the little adapter that
  connects to a
DB9 Token-Ring interface on say a 2502 and switches it to
  RJ-45. I don't
know what the name of it would be. I have one, and I broke it
  open thinking
I could just reproduce the cable structure, but it has a
  small circuit board

inside. I am trying to find a place to purchase them, but
  nobody sells
Token-Ring stuff any more it seems.

  Thanks in advance guys.

Telnet to a Router

2001-03-05 Thread Mark Rose

I am trying to telnet to a 2514 router from work. I have a Linksys BEFSR41
ethernet/dsl router on my incoming cable line. I have enabled port
forwarding for telnet (port 23) on this router. I have also set up vty on
the 2514. When I try to telnet to the wan interface of the Linksys forwarded
to the ethernet interface on the 2514 I get the message "Could not open a
connection to host: Connection failed". But if I remote access an NT server
inside my home net (on internal address space), from there I can telnet (on
the private address space) to the same ethernet interface and connect.

Since I can remote access my NT box, port forwarding on the Linksys router
is working. Also the 2514 should be set properly since I can telnet in from
within my lan. I must be overlooking something but I cannot figure it out.

I would appreciate any ideas or assistance.

TIA
Mark
