FOR VLAN 0001 TO VLAN 90 DO A TRACEROUTE.
second: CLEAR YOUR COUNTER/CLEAR CAM/CLEAR YOU CASH. In case MLS was

**WARNING** THE FIX SOFTWARE VERSION FOR CATALYST 4000 MODEL 5.5(4b)
HAS A "POWER REQUIREMENT". IT NEEDS 2 POWER SUPPLIES TO RUN AT ALL TIMES;
OTHERWISE IT WILL REMOVE "OFF-LINE" "ALL" THE MODULES INSERTED IN THE
CHASSIS, WITH EXCEPTION OF THE SUPERVISOR MODULE. IN OTHER WORDS BEFORE
DEPLOYING THIS LITTLE SUCKER, MAKE SURE YOU HAVE MORE THAN 1 POWER SUPPLY
CONNECTED AND RUNNING, OTHERWISE YOU WILL KICK OFF EVERYONE THATS CONNECTED
TO YOUR SWITCH, WITH EXCEPTION OF YOUR SUPERVISOR ENGINE MODULE.THANK
GOD FOR THAT;)
**so i guess if you want redundancy, you have no other alternative but to
have all "3" power supplies on and connected. More bucks for cisco.

Re: hsrp question..a tough one for me

2001-01-11 Thread RAUL RENTERIA

no. You need 1 ip per router; besides the ip for the virtual. You cannot
use an ip that belongs to either physical interface nor ip's of any of the
devices that make up the network. The ip you chose for the virtual hsrp
will have its own virtual hardware address given by the router- this would
also be a good reason why 1 ip cannot be shared.
good luck.

Once you are done, and if you feel pretty strong about using isl, then
change it over; But by then you would have already your vtp.

Re: Switches and VLANs

2000-07-20 Thread RAUL RENTERIA

a port can only belong to "1" vlan at "1" time.
the only time "1" port can be part of more than "1" vlan
is when it "TRUNKS".

If you want vlan 1 to communicate to vlan 2; you need a router for vlan
routing

broadcast address ...ex 172.8.0.255
you have an option of 4,094 networks and 262,142 ip addresses
classfull ip ranges are 1 to 254 for devices.
2)config-reg 0x2102 boots to flash uses NVRAM normal operation,

configs.

2)The aui's do not phycally need to be connected to anything to simulate a
lan on that port. In other words...you can turn the ports on w/o an aui
attached to it.

3) Great investmentgoood luck. check out www.boson.com they have alot
of stuff that you might want to check out.

Re: Connecting 3 subnets with Cisco routers??

2000-07-07 Thread RAUL RENTERIA

1)The way to connect 3 subnets that are lans would be through your
  ethernet.
2)You can create a default gateway on the same ethernet port for each
subnet as a "secondary ip" on that interface. or.
3)You can create virtual interfaces on the same physical interface
separately for each subnet, creating a default gateway for each.
4)Build a routing table to include all subnets to be routed.
5)I think tha'ts it.
6) GOOD LUCK.

RE: Connecting 3 subnets with Cisco routers??

2000-07-07 Thread RAUL RENTERIA

I have only used 3 routers connecting to each other w/serial a DB-60 pin on
each end. It worked. the only thing to be done on the serial interfaces
would be to set the clockrate on the serial int that has the DCE part of the
cable attached to it. still, your lans would be connected on each of the
ethernet ports of each router, respectively. With this scenario you would
also need to create a 4th subnet...for your serail connectionsdefault
gateways will be ip addresses you will give to each of the ethernet ports on
each router. still, you need to build a routing table on each router for
all 3 subnets plus your 4th new subnet.,.

Hope it helps...I didn't mean to question your designsorry.

Are you running ISL or dot.1Q. The reason I'm asking, it's because I have

It worked for me...let me know..

Re: Connecting 3 subnets with Cisco routers??

2000-07-07 Thread RAUL RENTERIA

I was under the impression you have 3 lans you want to route with one
router. Why do you want to use 3 routers to connect 3 lans? Let's say for
example..lan 1 is on floor 1, lan 2 is on floor 2, lan 3 is on floor 3.
if you want these to route the simplest thing would be to connect all nodes
on each floor to a hub/switch per floor; then have all drops meet in one
closet to a patch panel/hub/switch, to the ethernet on the (1)router. I
don't see why you would need (3)routers...

Re: router a DCE

2000-07-07 Thread RAUL RENTERIA

OKlet me first apologize for not being clear.

the frame-relay config is for the router that will be designated to be the
frame-relay cloud(TELCO).
if you want to do a point to point (NOT FRAMERELAY),all you need to do is
set clock on the interface to be (DCE).
in order for you to see which of the interfaces is the DCE after you connect
the serail cable in the interfaces of both routers, is by doing the "show
controllers" command. you will see which one of the serial ports have the
DCE CABLE.

hope this is a little more clear.good luck
