Here's a good link. watch the wordwrap

http://www.cisco.com/univercd/cc/td/doc/product/software/ios120/12cgcr/f
un_c/fcprt2/fcreboot.htm

this link has an excellent diagram of the boot sequence and how to
manipulte it. let me know if after reading it, you still can't figure it
out. If you find that you do have the config-register set properly, what
the boot sequence to see if the router attempts to boot off of slot0 and
what the results are, i.e. if it says bad image or unable to boot.
Something like that. Hope that helps.

RE: back-to-back Wic-1DSU-T1 Snaffu... [7:35431]

2002-02-14 Thread Woods, Randall, SOBUS

I've set up a similar lab with 2611's with those cards installed. I had
the same problem when I was using a short cable, 6 feet. I increased the
length of the cable to 20 feet and the circuit came up. I then used my
old crossover cable on a router that had an external csu to see if the
cable was bad and it wasn't. I would try using a longer crossover cable.

Ok guys and gals...Here's the situation that I hope someone can slap me
on
the back of the head and go, you dummy, you forgot to do that!
... and then tell me what to do to fix it.

I have two 1700 routers with 12.1.5YBx IOS code running, and each has a
WIC-1DSU-T1 card in them.

Very simple Back-To-Back lab... at least you would think.

I've double-checked to make sure that my STP cable has pins 1,2 and 4,5
reversed... 1 to 4 (wire color orange/white) and 2 to 5 (wire color
solid
orange).

I've put in on one router only, the Service-Module T1 Clock Source
Internal
command, and have even gone the extra measure of hand coding the line
code,
and frame commands - B8ZS and ESF.

I've changed the LBO to none, and -15db on both units in mirror image
fashion.

I've specified Timeslots All and Timeslots 1-24 speed 64 on both routers
in
mirror fashion.

Still NADA.

The following is the config's and their associated Show Service Module

Somebody, please tell me what the heck I'm doing wrong!!

I can configure this on the old DB60 cabling configuration all day long

It's funny that you mention that. I just recently bought a couple of
routers from them off ebay and one of them was dead when I received it.
I took almost a month to get a replacement. The one shipped did work but
during the whole process, they never responded to email and never
initiated a call to me to atleast let me know the status of the
shipment. I guess it could have been worse but how hard is it to send a
freakin' email?

RE: Terminal server tacacs+ question [7:34607]

2002-02-06 Thread Woods, Randall, SOBUS

Hannes,
you would configure it like this

Router(config)#aaa authentication local-override

In this case, the router will first check to see if there is a local
user specified before checking the tacacs server. If one doesn't exist
locally then it would check the tacacs server. Hope that helps.

Synchronous support with a maximum speed of 2.048 Mbps.

RE: cisco 26xxx to run 8mbps [7:32628]

Here is a possible config to achieve 8mbps for a frame-relay connection.

ISP Frame Switch-DL3800-8xT1-DL3800-2600 w/WIC-2T

The WIC-2T would be installed in NM-1FE1R2W, NM-1FE2W, or NM-2FE2W and no
other WIC modules
installed. I don't know if using the Digital Link 3800's is cheaper than the
DS3 ATM cards but
this is one option.

If you want a WIC card that supports asynchronous
 serial then a WIC-2A/S
 would do.

You mention modem support. Is your aux port free? If
 so, any reason why it
 won't meet your needs?

RE: MSFC [7:30668]

2002-01-04 Thread Woods, Randall, SOBUS

Scottie,
This is another option you can try. Single Router Mode (SRM). It
will migrate the configs of the primary MSFC to the back-up just like
the Supervisor Module does when it fails. We are in the process of
testing this feature out at my company.

hope this helps

Depending on your topology. If you have only one Cat, I would
definitely
configure it as two separate routers. However if you have two Cats each
with dual MSFCs then I would configure them as Active and Standby. With
the
first scenario mentioned above it gives you redundant routing
capabilities
immediately whereas the second option takes a few seconds to kick in.

should
I have the same config on both MSFC's.

RE: MSFC [7:30668]

2002-01-04 Thread Woods, Randall, SOBUS

As soon as you turn on single-router-mode, it will sync up the redundant
MFSC on that switch automatically. Of course this will need to be
performed on every switch that has redundant MFSC's installed. There are
also a few things that have to be checked first i.e. both MSFC's are
running Cisco IOS release 12.1(8a)E2 or later, stuff like that. That
link I sent earlier explains what needs to take place pretty well.

Well I does have two switches. And they both have two MSFC's. So my
question was should the MSFC's have the same config or will it be copy
automaticaly.
