Re: MBA or CCIE [7:41809]
Group, Agree and inline with the plan for MBA. One thing which I wanted to add is after MBA too one has to start at not so high salaries and perks(hardly as what CCIE gets nowadays also). The best skills lies within people who do Technical for years and then shift the focus to Business consultant. So you start as Engineer, Technical conultant, Manager, Business consultant, GM and so on. Any additions? I had planned on pursuing my CCIE-Security, but realize that I don't work enough with Cisco products on a daily basis, and certainly not with routing in a complex way, to feel that I would deserve the cert, even if I attained it. I'm going back to school for my MS in CS, starting classes in June. I think in the long run, an advanced degree is more of a benefit than an advanced vendor cert. But thats just me. Exactly. Especially later in your life. Fiddling with Cisco boxes might be cool now, but do you still want to be doing that when you're 50? Probably not, you probably want to be sitting in a director's chair ordering other young guys to set up the systems. It's hard to win promotion to that chair without an advanced education. Passed CCIE Written - Thanx [7:27194]
Group, I passed my CCIE Written today. 74 %. (ofcourse, first attempt!) I referred the material mentioned below : 1. TCP/IP - Vol 2 - Jeff Doyle For BGP, and IP NAT - Excellent book 2. CCIE Study Guide - Todd Lammle, John Swartz - For all topics - I would recomend a strong buy for this one. Be careful with some print mistakes! 3. Boson Test 1,2,3 4. TCP/IP - Volume I 5. Bridges, Routers, and Switches for CCIEs - By Caslow - Refer to Dialup/ISDN/FR/OSPF configurations well. For all of members on the group who are looking forward to this exam one input I would like to give - Get the concept right for each protocol. Well, its my last day before vacation. Six weeks with old friends and dear ones in family! I must not end, before leaving my sincere thanks to all on this group who participate here with true sense of knowledge dissemination. Hello Group, One input after looking around the salaries of other IT prof..'s, I have a feeling that Netwrok Prof's are underpaid. CCNA - 45-55K CCNP - 50 - 60K CCIE - 80 - 90K Most of the jobs are filled in CCNA's/on the way CCNP'shave excellent experience and knowledge, not getting time for training and exams...and so on. But theres a huge shortage of so called Netwrok Prof's who push selfs really hard to keep the expectation of this highly changing technological field. Second of all: this is a technical forum. If you're feeling underpaid, go to your boss and complain. Salaries should always be considered on a case-by-case basis. Third of all: it are NOT the technical skills that make you a professional, it are the social skills (i.e. professional attitude). Anybody can get a certification if they study hard enough, proper social skills however are what make you stand out in the crowd. I hope this answers your question. CSPM and PIX Firewall Ambiguity
Hi All, Cisco Secure Policy Manager CSPM - Enables one to define a GUI based policy/topology. The program then uploads this policies to PIX firewall and there is hindreds of line of configuration in PIX FW. PIX Firewall - can also be configured manually via command line. But theres no way this can be uploaded to CSPM and realize the policy/topology from configuration on PIX. Ambiguity remains, one does not know which commands are generated by CSPM program after defining the topology. One cannot upload the manually configured policy to CSPM. Can any one provide some insight, as to how this ambiguity can be removed and synchrinise both. Ofcourse, someone who have worked with both multiple times will be able to help me. I'll try to continue to lurk and help when I can. Here's a bit of my story: I'm 33. Got my first computer when I was 13. 20 years. Wow!!! Fell in love with programming. At 17, I got a job teaching college and was building custom IBM compatibles for a friends business. I taught continuing education computer classes. Did that for three years to help pay for my own college. By my third year of college I burned out on programming. I'd finally come out of my shell and found that I didn't want to sit in a cube all day and write code. I then went to work for a small telcom interconnect and learned all about PBXs. I've got lots of hands on and plenty of different certifications(Cisco, Bay/Nortel, Fore/Marconi, etc...). Last year, I decided to work towards my CCIE. I also decided to get all the intermediate certifications along the way. Starting from last April to November, I did my CCNA, CCDA, CCNP, CCDP.
