The CCIE qualification exam on its own has very limited jobseeking value.
However it can, if used wisely be used to demonstrate a continuing
dedication to personal development.

ie

If you list try to list "CCIE (Written)" on your resume/CV then you will
most likely be filed in the discard pile by many hiring managers.

If instead you seperately state that you are actively working towards CCIE
and give a realistic expected completion date it may get your foot in the
door for more active consideration with some hirers.

It qualifies you to take the lab exam, that is its purpose. It is almost
pointless to take it if that isnt what you intended.

Only if you want to show yourself as someone who doesnt follow things
through. If there is a good reason for not completing the lab then you
could bring up the qualification exam in an interview, but I certainly
wouldnt recommend putting it on your resume.

Aside from making you eligible to register for the Lab, no.

If you're taking the CCIE written exam in order to make yourself more
marketable, then you're taking it for the wrong reason.

> any worth of mention, like say on my resume or as a credential.

In what manner would you mention this on your resume? Under a list of other
certifications you've attained? Passing the CCIE written exam does not earn
you a certification, so this would be inappropriate.

Let's be brutally honest here: the reason people are tempted to put "CCIE
Written" on their resume is so that their resume pops up whenever a
headhunter or hiring manager does a search for the term "CCIE." Since
passing the CCIE written exam is not an official indicator of any tangible
talent for installing and programming Cisco routers and switches, listing
"CCIE Written" on one's resume is tantamount to deceiving the headhunter
(and yourself!). If you're going to put "CCIE Written" on your resume, you
may as well also put a PhD in Computer Science from MIT - hey, if you're
going to pull the wool over someone's eyes, why not go all the way? ;-)

The CCIE certification exists in order to recognize those who have *proven*
their expert-level skills. Putting "CCIE Written" on one's resume cheapens
the certification and minimizes the inherent benefits of achieving it. Say
it once, say it twice, say it a thousand times: passing the CCIE written
exam is not a certification and should not be indicated on one's resume.

(Again, sorry to be so dogmatic about this, but it's one of my hot buttons.
Pancakes are another one, so let's not even go there.)

Where I *have* seen it helpful is in specific cases where a company was
anticipating needing a CCIE-level applicant at a future date.

So the following:

CCIE Routing/Switching - Lab Scheduled 6/2003

Might be helpful. The CCIE written qualification alone hasn't helped
anybody that I know of.

Hi,
Does the CCIE qualification exam itself have any worth. I know that your
not
a CCIE without giving the actual Lab part of the exam, but how does the
CCIE
written exam scale on its own, career wise. Does it help improve job
prospects. What are the benefits of this exam on its own, or is it
totally
useless without the LAB part.
Say if i never appear for the LAB, for any reason, would the written
exam be
any worth of mention, like say on my resume or as a credential. Thanks
for all your advice in advance. Irfan

I'd be willing to bet mentioning this, in discussion or in an interview has
some value.

In the last place I worked, rumour has it that one of my colleagues was
interviewed and thus obtained a UK visa on the basis of his CCIE, and
this later turned out to be written only. HR departments / technical
management aren't always as rigorous as you may think :-)
If this is true then I think you could definitely say that it can be of
benefit.

I am shocked and amazed to learn that people lie on their resumes, their job
applications, their credit card applications, and their visa applications.

I am even more shocked and amazed to learn that those who process any of
this stuff never check the accuracy of any of the information provided.

what has become of this world..???
