RE: ooking for CCIE practice test. What boson test [7:74274]
Actually, I just purchased CCIE Test #3 by Dennis. I was having a little bit of trouble with the older version so I installed the latest version of the software, 5.10 I think, and everything was fixed. Not only that, but in Dennis's test, he has multimedia tutorials as well. I only saw one of them, How to hack a 2500. Really cool study material. I swear, Boson just keeps getting better and better. If you have the money, about $40 per test, I would highly recommend you get both Bernard and Dennis. :) Message Posted at: http://www.groupstudy.com/form/read.php?f=7i=74575t=74274 -- **Please support GroupStudy by purchasing from the GroupStudy Store: http://shop.groupstudy.com FAQ, list archives, and subscription info: http://www.groupstudy.com/list/cisco.html

Hi, Recently, I purchased CCIE#1 by Bernard Omrani. I'm sure the other tests are pretty good, but with Bernard's, you'll have access to bonus material available on his homepage. He's also very accessible in the event you have any questions. Personally, I'm still working on my CCNP, but I figured it doesn't hurt to set a goal and start working toward it. CIT test [7:71134]
To all, I have a friend who is going to take his CIT test on Friday. He has studied the Cisco press CIT book and read it cover to cover. He purchased the self test software that is on Cisco's page and is averaging 80-90 on most tests. He would like to know how close the self tests software that Cisco recommends is to the real thing. Has anyone had any experience with the Cisco self tests. Is there any areas that he really needs to concentrate on. Any input would be appreciated. This is his last test toward his CCNP. I passed both the Wireless SE and FE exams using the CWNA book and the bosons. The two exams have about 70% overlap, I'd go ahead and take them both to double certify. Mobile IP Test Scenario [7:70891]
In the idol speculation category at this time. Just mulling ways to familiarize myself with Mobile IP the idea is to use my computer to simulate a roving user who still needs to get to the internet. here is what I came up with for a test bed: Internet | outside_LAN ( public IP side ) | firewall | | firewall IP = 192.168.1.1/24 | inside_Lan ( 192.168.1.x/24 ) | | router ip = 192.168.1.2/24 | router_1\ | \ \ frame_relay_cloud--- ---Router_4 / \ | | / \ router_4 ip = 192.168.4.1`/24 |/ \ | Router_2 router_3 VLAN_4 = 192.168.4.x/24 | | | Router IP = 192.168.2.1/24 router_3 ip = 192.168.3.1/24 | | VLAN_2 = 192.168.2.x/24VLAN_3 = 192.168.3.x/24 hope the ASCII art survives the groupstudy message mangler :- In any case, this being done via the magic of a switch, I can easily move my computer from vlan to vlan just by changing the connection to the appropriate port. At least, that's the theory. Router 1 is the home agent routers 2,3, and 4 are the foreign agents. The idea is to simulate a wireless network, in which a user is wandering from AP to AP, with the particular APs in different subnets, as might be the case in a hospital or a business occupying multiple floors or multiple buildings in a campus. If mobile IP works the way it is advertised, the roving user can still surf the web, no matter which part of the network he occupies. not changes required on the user station. I probably won't be able to test this prior to next week. Too many other things going on right now. Just wanted to offer this as food for thought, if anyone out there is looking for some study ideas. CCNP Recert Test Comments [7:70095]
Interesting way to spend a couple of hours. After reading previous posts on this topic, I entered the exam with a bit of trepidation. Never enough time to study. I can't say as the feeling diminished as I took the test. 112 questions, 145 minutes ( including the time for the mandatory tutorial on how to do the sims ) How to put this without breaking NDA? What was that song the late great Bob Hope used to sing? Thanks for the memories! Yep, thanks, Cisco, for the walk down memory lane. A couple of years prepping for other things left me in a completely different mindset. It was like revisiting my networking youth :- For those who have taken the test, weren't some of the choices interesting, if not amusing? For those who have not, the published blueprint is a start. Not enough, but a start. Good thing I read through this newsgroup and collect networking trivia. It helped immensely. CCNP for three more years. Next up - CCDP recert. Re: CCNP Recert Test Comments [7:70095]
Congrats Chuck and to continue the theme, I have failed the exam enough to get my money back guarantee from Boson. (in spades) However, today I passed it - which was good 'cause my cert was to expire on 8 June 2003. Now I'm good for another 3 years. I too am off to the CCDP recert. I'm due at the end of June. I had so much trouble I guess because I don't have nearly as much hands on as I used to. However, I question the usefulness of having to know the syntax of commands for different platforms when in the real world, a ? at the console will tell me that - no, don't use a hyphen. Hopefully people won't take Chuck's post as meaning that the exam isn't all that hard. Good 'ol Chuck has been around the block a few times on Cisco gear - eh Chuck? :-) The exam is hard. When I certified I didn't try to pass the foundation to get there quicker, I took each individual exam. So I studied a focused area and then took the exam. This exam is the Foundation plus CIT and CCNA. Like getting CCNP with one exam. And back in my version 1 days, questions on BGP were just knowing how to spell it. Lots of BGP possible on this one. I used CCIE prep material to study as my old version 1 stuff was lacking. Everytime I took the exam I was surprised that I was still seeing new questions. Not just a few new ones but lots. The pool must be large on this one since it does cover everything. It has been suggested that a recert this difficult would perhaps strengthen the cert and make you feel good to have it. Well.. I think that there are problems with this exam. For me the only amusing parts were that what freebies were there were really simple. Those freebies should probably be deleted from the pool. But wait I needed those to pass! Guess I should be happy. Good luck to those who have to recert soon. Remember - your cert expires on the day you got it, not the end of the month. Also Cisco has a 72 hour waiting period between any exam. I took the exam (again) today as that meant I could make one last ditch effort on Friday since mine would have expired on Sunday and there are no test centres here open on the weekend. Good 'ol Chuck has been around the block a few times on Cisco gear - eh Chuck? :-) It was hard, although maybe not because of the detail. Maybe having geared up for the CCIE lab more than a couple of times maybe I'm finally getting to understand some of this stuff. I must confess, three years ago I was awarded my CCNP on the bases of passing three beta tests and the old ACRC exam by a total of 25 points. The ACRC was the toughest exam I ever took at that point, and in terms of sheer terror, I'll stack it up against the CCDP and today's recert. So yes, I feel good getting through this one. Like I've really earned my cert. It never hurts to read as much as you can - from Howard, to Cil's books, to the various posts on this newsgroup, always with an eye towards learning how things really work. Yep - a couple of years of pounding the keyboard configuring routers for the CCIE lab didn't hurt. Hands on is good, and I like the direction cert testing is going. I just wish the res was better on the test screen. The exam is hard. When I certified I didn't try to pass the foundation to get there quicker, I took each individual exam. cisco wireless admin test [7:63565]
Does anyone have any idea on how good the CWNA (certified wireless network administrator, by planet3 wireless) course book is for cisco wireless admin (9E0-581) test prep? Also, how hard is the test as compared to CWNA, which i found it to be hard due the fact that 95% of the 90 questions had checkbox and had choose all that apply selection with real close choices, which made the test 3 times harder than it really is. I have heard that people are using CWNA book plus cisco AP product line and basic config knowledge to prepare for cisco wireless test and wanted your thoughts. -Keyur Shah- CCIE# 4799 (Security;R/S) CISSP,CCSP,CWNA,CCSA,SCNA,MCSE,MCNE,MCT,CNI Say Hello to Your Future! http://www.hellocomputers.com Toll-Free: 1.877.79.HELLO Message Posted at: http://www.groupstudy.com/form/read.php?f=7i=63565t=63565 -- FAQ, list archives, and subscription info: http://www.groupstudy.com/list/cisco.html Report misconduct and Nondisclosure violations to [EMAIL PROTECTED]

OT: High Speed Internet Test from Browser [7:59098]
Those of you with high speed internet connections are aware of some sites that seem to be aware of your high speed connection and inundate you with additional content. This is usually in th form of video, flash ads that get in the way of everything else, etc. I'm wondering if anyone knows how they know you're using a high speed connection. Are they really doing some sort of check to verify your connection speed? If so, how are they doing this? I'd like to find out so I can determine if there is an easy way to break it. :-) Just because I have a cable modem at home doesn't mean I want to be bombarded with additional flashy advertisements. Re: OT: High Speed Internet Test from Browser [7:59118]
Well, I suppose they could have a script that downloaded to your PC and then tested some sites for speed. But I think your browser would warn you about that. The most simple way would be for the web server to ping you, say with a 500 byte packet, and based on the reply time, determine your speed. To be more accurate, it could ping with a small packet, then a big one to analyze the difference. I've got a cable modem. Two different pings: Pinging www.novell.com [192.233.80.5] with 32 bytes of data: Reply from 192.233.80.5: bytes=32 time=110ms TTL=34 Reply from 192.233.80.5: bytes=32 time=152ms TTL=34 Reply from 192.233.80.5: bytes=32 time=109ms TTL=34 Reply from 192.233.80.5: bytes=32 time=111ms TTL=34 Ping statistics for 192.233.80.5: Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss), Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds: Minimum = 109ms, Maximum = 152ms, Average = 120ms C:\Documents and Settings\churchping www.novell.com -l 500 Pinging www.novell.com [192.233.80.5] with 500 bytes of data: Reply from 192.233.80.5: bytes=500 time=114ms TTL=34 Reply from 192.233.80.5: bytes=500 time=122ms TTL=34 Reply from 192.233.80.5: bytes=500 time=146ms TTL=34 Reply from 192.233.80.5: bytes=500 time=144ms TTL=34 Ping statistics for 192.233.80.5: Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss), Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds: Minimum = 114ms, Maximum = 146ms, Average = 131ms As you can see, even though the the second ping data size was over 10 times bigger, the time went up very little, indicating your connection isn't the bottleneck, but the latency through numerous router hops was. Try the same on a slow connection, and you'd see a much bigger difference between the two. RE: 640-851 test taken [7:58925]
My guess is that you for sure have to do the no shutdown command but probably not the copy run start command. After all, you're doing a simulation that is supposed to represent what you would actually do in a certain situation. If you don't bring up an interface and that interface is needed for the configuration to work, then your configuration won't work. On the other hand, your configuration will still work without the copy run start as long as the router doesn't need to be rebooted. Not sure how the simulations are graded. If you'd just like to send some test multicast traffic and see if your receiving it elsewhere, you can try my multicast testing program at http://mc-mint.sourceforge.net It's free under the GPL. I very much doubt it will run under windows though, you probably would want to use Linux with it. I mean, is there a freeware/shareware application that I can install on my laptop to test (since I cannot obviously have IP/TV client on my laptop).Or is there any other way to do it in the Lab routers themselves.Any basic configs/examples provided is greatfully appreciated.Thank you for your help.Sincerely,CN MSN 8 with e-mail virus protection service: 2 months FREE* Message Posted at: http://www.groupstudy.com/form/read.php?f=7i=58396t=58269 -- FAQ, list archives, and subscription info: http://www.groupstudy.com/list/cisco.html Report misconduct and Nondisclosure violations to [EMAIL PROTECTED]

BJ, That's a great idea actually. I've never tested it and I don't have a PC to try it on right now, but I think it's very likely to compile on Cygwin. Like I said, I can't try it, but if you do please let me know. On Mon, 2002-12-02 at 08:50, B.J. Wilson wrote: Mike - By any chance have you tested running your program on a Windows PC using Cygwin? I very much doubt it will run under windows though, you probably would want to use Linux with it. In my lab I used two old 300 MHz PCs to generate traffic with it and I've been able to fill some pretty big pipes. Re: CCIE Lab test price? [7:55487]
Part of becoming a CCIE starts with conducting research. GroupStudy is for those who have done research but are fuzzy on application of theory or want to add to the dynamic of the discussion of theory as it pertains to Internetworking. You don't waste the time of Howard C. Berkowitz, Priscilla Oppenheimer or Nigel Taylor with trivial questions that are answered with 10 seconds of research on Cisco's site. Having said all that here is how you become a CCIE. Good Luck you may just need it. http://www.cisco.com/en/US/learning/le3/le2/le23/le7/learning_certification_ type_home.html (to start) http://www.cisco.com/en/US/learning/le3/learning_ccie_lab_exam.html (the price...item # 10 toward the bottom of the page. Off Topic - B*S*N test engine [7:55396]
I downloaded the most recent B*S*N test engine and sample tests. I'm just wondering On my laptop, the software locks up every time. No keyboard or mouse response. Will sit forever. I finally had to uninstall it for fear of losing too many other important things. On my desktop - it doesn't lock up, but it loads VERY slowly, and other apps and functions are sometime difficult to even get to during the process. Granted, these machines are long in the tooth. Win95 p333 with 96 meg ram and Win98 P2 with 224 meg ram. What - do I need a 2.4 gig processor to run this piece of bloatware now? Tonight's Homily - Test Writing and Preparing for Tests [7:52116]
This evening's study time was spent writing a Study Lab exercise. As some of you know, I'm writing a Study Guide for on of those places that sells study materials. Part of the deal is writing a couple of lab exercises so that those who plunk down their hard earned dough walk away with some sense of value received. It's one thing to write quick and dirty labs for Groupstudy. I've done any number of those over the past couple of years, trying to illustrate a point, or examine a mystery that's come up on this list. It's something else completely to write something that you expect somebody else to pay for. I know how I feel when I pay for something, only to be disappointed at the quality or the content. So I am working hard to produce something of value. And herein lies tonight's lesson. As a result of my work of the past couple of weeks, I believe I'm starting to understand the subtlety of the various study materials, and of the CCIE Lab exam itself. It's not about banging out a few questions. It's even less about banging out some difficult questions. It's about choosing topics wisely. It's about choosing test topics that require a test taker to think, to add two plus two, or more importantly, to see that in adding two plus two one must take into account binary, octal, and hex. The lab exercise in question is a basic Catalyst 3550 orientation lab. Connect a few routers, configure a few vlans. Pretty basic, isn't it? So where is the value, I asked myself? I revisit the set of tasks. Let's change that list a bit. Some ports should be port-based vlan ports. Others should be L3 ports. Let's test L3 by setting up three different routing protocols on the switch, each peering with a different router. Ah, but those particular ports are L2 only, assigned to vlans. Now what? ( The solution doesn't seem to work, until I notice I have mistaken odd numbered ports for even numbered ports. I'm reminded of my last trip through the Lab. Ms. Proctor, I think the cabling is wrong. I'm seeing things I shouldn't be seeing on the vlans. - No, Mr. Test Taker, the cabling is not wrong. Perhaps you should look at your configurations again. Ironically, L2 was my best percentage scoring section. ) Then let's add the requirement that one user in each of two different routing domains need communicate via SNA. Now what? So I construct a story for this practice lab. I begin to look at the various components of that story. Does it make sense? More importantly, does it work? If my router is connected to a port that is physically in a vlan, and I configure the switch to talk to that router via OSPF, can I make it work? Will my scenario hold water? Another evening's work, and I believe I should have something decent for my editor. Having been through the CCIE Lab twice, I can say with assurance that one should never bet the house nor anything else one values on whether or not something will be tested. Oh, it's pretty well known what the core topics are. Generations of CCIE Lab candidates have been tripped up by things like redistribution, classful limitations of routing protocols, and a whole bunch of things that depend upon based L3 reachability. It is never the protocols themselves, but some knob, some configuration subtlety, some second or third thing that must be invoked to solve the problem. I'm seeing this from the other side now. How to work a question so that the answer is what I want to test. How to test to prove that what I think should happen really does. For example, will the Mac access-list really do what I think it should? I can't test because I don't have SNA machines to connect. The routing still works over the links where the MAC filter is applied. Is that indication that the L2 filter is not working? And how in tarnation does one change the management vlan on these new switches? The documentation is strangely silent on the matter, and the commands given for the 3500 series switches don't work on the 3550's, as near as I can tell. Sometimes it seems like I'm peeling an onion. The more layers I remove, the more layers appear. But you know, here at the end of this evening, I feel smarter. I feel like some great revelation is about to hit me. So I want to come back for more. Shadows dancing on a wall. Firelight on a cool evening. Stillness. Peace. Goodnight everyone. -- www.chuckslongroad.info still a work in progress, but on line for your enjoyment Message Posted at: http://www.groupstudy.com/form/read.php?f=7i=52116t=52116 -- FAQ, list archives, and subscription info: http://www.groupstudy.com/list/cisco.html Report misconduct and Nondisclosure violations to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
