Re: Stus-List C&C 35 Mk II for sale

2015-06-26 Thread Greg Swetka via CnC-List

I also have a 35 Mk II with below deck autopilot. It was a major challenge but
the only good way to go due to the layout of the binnacle and engine
controls... My main problem with this unit is that I lost about 20% of total
steering control from lock to lock, due to the length of the steering arm on
the pilot. Did you have the same issue?

Stus-List Long time C&C owner

2018-09-27 Thread Greg Swetka via CnC-List
We have owned our 1974 C&C35mkII since 1994, over 24 years. We are the third
owners and we paid almost the exact same price as the original owner paid,
exactly 20 years earlier! We have the original invoice that shows it...
ironically, I worked for the dealership that sold her, new, so that means that
I would have commissioned her, new! She was sold out of Burr Sailboats in Mt.
Clemens, Mi and is still kept and sails on Lake St. Clair, with trips to Lake
Huron and Lake Erie.

Re: Stus-List Cockpit scupper drains - stories version

2019-01-04 Thread Greg Swetka via CnC-List
I also have a 35mkII and I know for a fact that there were never 4 thru hulls.
Mine aft ones were always teed to the forward ones. The aft ones always held
water as the hoses went straight down and looped back up over the partial
bulkheads before connecting to the forward ones. I recently improved that
condition by attaching 90 degree elbows directly to the drain and then routing
to the forward tee.

Stus-List Anchor windlass C&C 35 MK II

2017-02-07 Thread Greg Swetka via CnC-List
I am having a new stemhead fitting with bow roller fabricated this winter
for Piper. My next step, is looking into a windlass for Piper, as the new
anchor that I purchased is a 35lb Lewmar Delta and I'm not as young as I
used to be. I really like the looks of the low profile Lewmar windlasses but
am not sure if they will work with my mostly rope (with 10' of chain at the
end). Do any listers have experience with installing windlasses on one of
these older 35's? Btw, Piper does not have a deck hatch for the anchor rode,
the rode just enter the bow anchor rode locker through a dorade vent at the
aft end of the locker.

Re: Stus-List black water tanks on C&C 35mkII

2017-07-08 Thread Greg Swetka via CnC-List
I have a C&C 35mkII 1974 hull #277 and sailed another one when they were new
and worked at a C&C dealership as a teenager, at about the time they were
built. They were delivered with a dinky tank, sandwiched between the hull and
the bulkhead in the head compartment. It was a very unique construction
technique that incorporated a double wall bladder that was placed through a
small opening in the head compartment in the shelf. There was a solution of
epoxy and vermiculite in between the double walls and then they were inflated
until the epoxy set up. The tank was rated at about 11 gallons but most would
realistically hold only about 8 if they were lucky. Here in the Great Lakes,
that just didn't cut it. On Piper, I installed a 40 gallon bladder under the
forepeak and the removal of the old tank, involved dismantling the cabinetry in
the head, to then pull the outer bulkhead away enough to remove the old tank.
It was quite a job, but well worth it in the long run.

Re: Stus-List CnC-List Digest, Vol 149, Issue 6

2018-06-02 Thread Greg Swetka via CnC-List
Re: autopilot selection and installation

I have a 35mkll that would not work with any of the wheel pilots so I had to go
with an under deck installation. It is great... quiet unobtrusive and
responsive. I went with the Raymarine because it was the most popular at the
time. The installation was tricky due to the lack of exposed rudder shaft, so I
designed and had a local machine shop fabricate two plates that sandwiched the
quadrant and gave me the correct distance from the post for mounting the pilot
ram. I designed it so that bolts fit into the openings in the casting, snug
against the inner wall so that there was no need to drill holes in the
quadrant, possibly weakening it. I have been very happy with the installation.
I believe that I still have templates in Autodesk Inventor.

Stus-List Best self tailing primary winch replacement for 35 Mk II

2016-05-23 Thread Greg Swetka via CnC-List
I love the looks of my beautiful Stainless Barient 28's on my C&C 35MkII, but
am facing the reality that as I age, self tailing winches are becoming more of
a necessity rather than a luxury... What have other owners found as the best
replacement? I want to stay with stainless and fitting the existing hole
pattern would be a plus... Equal or slightly increased power ratio would also
be important. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Stus-List Choosing an anchor for a C&C 35 mkll

2016-10-23 Thread Greg Swetka via CnC-List
I am having a bow roller/stemhead fitting made for my C&C 35 mkll... I am
looking for advice an choosing the proper size and type of anchor to use. My
fabricator wants to know what I am going to use to properly size the
fabrication. I am leaning towards the Delta or a cqr/plow style of anchor. I am
in the Great Lakes, so most of my anchoring is in weeds, mud, clay and some
sand.
