Dave,

Sorry to say I’m only there on Thursday and Friday. I wish I had more time to
spend but since Novabraid doesn’t have a booth this year, I only get a few days
to connect with my dealers in the area.

Enjoy the show!

Chuck,

I’ll be up on Monday. I’ll drop by and say Hello. Looking forward to being
there. Normally I’m out of country for the show but this year's schedule versus
mine works out well.

Chuck,

Was in your neck of the woods for the J80 Nationals at Beverly YC.  Left
on Sunday with my son, made it to Cuttyhunk in two hours under spinnaker
(hit 11.7 kts on a wave front, fastest we have ever seen), got the
spinnaker off and reached over to Sakonnet - 2hrs. Then up to Bristol in
3 hrs.  49nm in seven hours, my legs were quite weak trying to keep the
boat from broaching.

Don Kern put together a great list of C owners which unfortunately I can no
longer find. In any event, we purchased SLY in December 1984 here in the
Seattle area. She is a 1975 C 33 but we are often asked about her
manufacture. She was somewhat disguised by the prior owner. She came red from
the factory but the PO had her Algriped Black. They removed the traditional C
cove strip and greatly increased her boot top width, which is white and
contains her name. Name is also on her transom. It is surprising how much this
changes her appearance. She is a great boat, sails well and has won many races
for us. Her older sails and sailors have kept us off the race course of late
but we still plan to cruise her locally to the San Juan and Gulf Islands. We
will see what next summer brings.

I bought Pradel,35 Mk 1 #173 January 1999. I specifically was
Poking for a 35 mk1 for her sailing ability as well as accomodations for my
wife and four children. We raced her very successfully for several years with
her old sails but as the kids moved on, now I've settled into full cruising
mode with roller furling, 2 dozen crab traps and an inflatable and outboard
carried onboard. Now I get my racing fix sailing an old Comet but spending most
of my time cruising the Chesapeake out of the Magothy River.

Thanks, Don. Additions to my entry:

Our boat is a "C 42 Custom." As it was explained to me, the word "Custom"
means that it was built in the "custom shop," which was not the main C
facility in Niagara-on-the-Lake. Also, it was not a "production run" boat,
and only a few were made. I was told that six 42 Customs were built. I
have hull number 6.

Also, the name is Second Wind (sorry for not being more clever); sail number
US 20819; berthed in Erie, PA (Lake Erie); docked at the Erie Yacht Club;

A C Hull Identification Number (HIN - the one on the transom), starts
with a ZCC (or a different three letter code on older boats, I don't
remember the code).

The next two digits are the model (usually the length), the next three
digits are the hull number in that model series, the next digits are the
model month and year, using a number letter code.

I’ve owned my 25, la Belle Aurore, since June, 1994. Just over 24 years.

Imzadi, my 38, was bought in May, 2003. So that’s a bit over 15 years now.

In response to a comment in another thread, My Grandfather and I built my first
sailboat during the summer that I turned 14 – a bit over 54 years ago. She was
really a crappy sailboat – he was a carpenter and I was a kid, and neither of
us knew crap about boats at the time – but beamy and stable and a boat I
couldn’t get in much trouble with.

And most of my best friends own C Can’t say if they are good friends
because they like C, or if they bought C because they are great folks who
became good friends. And I suppose it doesn’t really matter which.

Hello Al,

I have a question for the list.

How many of you have owned your current C yacht for 5 years or longer.

FYI - we have owned Honey since October 1976 and are currently the second
owners.

Best regards,

Also, there is a 35-1 that I raced against as a kid (on my Dad’s 1972 Cal 33)
over 45 years ago that is still at our local club. Fun rivalry. The original
owner died not too long ago, but the boat remains in the family (his daughter
and son-in-law). My brother has owned the Cal 33 since my Dad died (about 30
years ago). Both boats still look great and remain competitive, although
neither is raced regularly these days.

I've owned Touche' for 19.5 years. Have logged over 13,000 nm since purchase.

I am 5th owner. Touche' was ordered in April 1971 as Touche'. Delivered
through Walet Yacht Sales in New Orleans in September 1971. The original price
was $19,807 US. Touche' has always been a Lake Pontchartrain boat although it
has been docked in Pensacola for several months.

Touche' was 1st to finish the Gulfport Pensacola Race in June 1972. Went
through a couple of quick owner changes and was then purchased and raced
extensively by a local dentist until 1981. The 4th owner cruised Touche' for a
while then let the boat go idle for several years. After watching it for a
couple years, I contacted him in April 1999 and convinced him to sell it.

For those newer to the list, if your boat is USCG documented, you can order an
abstract of title online from the USCG Vessel Documentation Center here:

It will show all transactions including ownership transfers, liens, etc.

I have owned my 1976 C 42 Custom for about eight years – no plan to sell.
Still working on projects. I am the third owner.

Prior to the 42, I owned a 1978 C 34 for about a decade. The design of the
34 is similar to the 42 (and the 36 and 38 of the same vintage).

Re: Stus-List Rob - C long time question

2018-09-27 Thread David via CnC-List
Purchased Corsair (1981 40-2) in 2004. Will never sell her and will pass
along to my son. I may buy another boat for the south however.

FYI...began as a fore-deck monkey on a 1972 35. Then the owner bought a 38
(Golden Peace on Long Island Sound). He then went on to buy a 40 after I moved
on. Who says C & C owners don't trade up!

Seemed a bit prophetic now that I have a 40.
