[Cooker] e16 pre out with gnome2 and kde3 compatibility

2003-06-11 Thread Thibaut Fernagut
Hi baudens,

I did a grep on the changelog :
* Sat Jun 22 2002 Stefan van der Eijk [EMAIL PROTECTED] 0.16.5-12mdk

so I don't know if you are still the maintainer of this package.

In any case ... e16.6 will come out . Lot's of patches etc.

Source:
http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=2

there is a srpm so it won't be that hard to update e16 for mdk9.2

Cheers

Shouldn't be happening. I will have a look. I remember patching XWine for

SRPMs support in urpmi exist for quite a long time but not perfect as Olivier
mentionned it, you can build hdlist of src or let src package go into normal
binary rpm hdlist. You need --install-src to switch to installation of src. You
furthermore need --src (or -s) to help urpmi know the next package is a src rpm
(especially if inside an hdlist).

[Cooker] urpmi weirdness: doesn't see installed Provides?

2003-06-11 Thread Stefan van der Eijk
Hi,

I see some strange behaviour from time to time when installing packages.
Take a look at:

http://eijk.homelinux.org/build/cooker/urpmi/i586/gnome-terminal-2.3.1-1mdk

It shows this:

@@@ Installing: libgnomeui2-devel
snip
Installation failed:
libfontconfig.so is needed by libbonoboui2_0-devel-2.2.2-1mdk
libfontconfig.so is needed by libgnomecanvas2_0-devel-2.3.0-2mdk
libfontconfig.so is needed by libgnomeui2_0-devel-2.3.3-1mdk

Which is strange, because libfontconfig1-devel was installed a few lines
before it (libfontconfig1-devel-2.2.0-3mdk.i586.rpm), and
libfontconfig1-devel Provides libfontconfig.so.

[EMAIL PROTECTED] stefan]$ urpmq libfontconfig.so -r
libfontconfig1-devel-2.2.0-3mdk

I've also seen this with other dependencies, it's not limited to
libfontconfig.so.

Any idea why this happens?

Is this perhaps related to using the --root option (these packages are
installed into a chroot)?

regards,

Stefan

Yes - gifs and jpegs both fail.

I created a new user on my system, copied a jpeg and a gif to the home dir
 and it still didn't work.

 It creates $HOME/.thumbnails/normal/

but no images inside the dir are created, strace tells me that konqueror is
trying to load the images to display for icons but that they cannot be
found because they don't get kreated korrectly.

Well - this isn't just image related - all previews are broken. Text, html,

it's only the US patent of LZW that will expire, not those in other
countries. The european and japanese patents will expire next year.

[Cooker] [Bug 1146] [Installation] premature network configuration

2003-06-11 Thread [fgriffin]
http://qa.mandrakesoft.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1146

--- Additional Comments From [EMAIL PROTECTED] 2003-11-06 14:21 ---
My recollection from a June 1 cooker (the last I've been able to build - see bug
4039) is that the problem is still there.

Basically, MDK is configuring a DHCP lan by default, which doesn't work if the
system is static IP, and then
1) Saying in the Summary that the network has been configured, and
2) Warning the installer not to mess with it.

MDK ought to be checking to see if the default DHCP configuration actually
works. If it does, then the Summary is fine as is. If it doesn't, then the
Summary should mark the network as not Configured so the user realizes that he
has to do it himself.

Today's cooker seems to be deciding that it needs the network before it's been
configured from the Network tab of the Summary page. It assumes DHCP, and
installs dhcpcd-client, and then appears to hang. The hang is because it is
timing out looking for a DHCP server, and there is none. The hang eventually
times out, but when I actually get the Summary dialog and go to configure the
network, it tells me that the network was already configured and I can leave it
as is.

It doesn't seem to realize that it never managed to connect with DHCP, and it
shouldn't be trying it anyway.

There's a bug in /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/config/host.def breaking the build of all

imake -DUseInstalled -I/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/config

This is easy to fix, just delete line 83 from host.def.

No, either...I removed Mesa to make urpmi --auto-select work, and now

If so, why doesn't it install it? If not, why did I have one before? :)
I don't THINK there's anything wrong with my rpm database, because I

Yep. I've compiled this beast and it works. Though the code is still immature. One

I second this. Saw it last night after updated to cooker...

[Cooker] debug rpms and menu entries

2003-06-11 Thread Charles A Edwards
With the 'new' debug rpms being auto-created the %{group} marco should
no longer be used when creating the menu entry or the menu entry will be
placed under Development/Debug

I noted this when building the sylpheed-claws rpms.
The menu entry had to be changed from section=%{group}
to section=Networking/Mail

The same behavior can be noted in multi-gnome-terminal-1.6.2-1mdk.
The menu entry appears not under Terminal but under Development/Debug.

BTW rpmlint, if run on the rpm will give an error
E: multi-gnome-terminal invalid-menu-section Development/Debug
/usr/lib/menu/multi-gnome-terminal
Change the spec to section=Terminals and the proper menu entry is
created.

This will occur with all rpms where %{group} has been used in the menu
entry but I have no idea how many or which other pkgs this effects.

[Cooker] [Bug 4045] [Installation] New: Individual Package Selection lists duplicates

  Platform: PC
OS/Version: All

In today's cooker, if you select all checkbox package categories and then
Individual Package Selection, and click on the Toggle to Flat display, all of
the packages are listed twice.

In addition, even though the Office category was checked, Open Office is not
selected, and attempts to select it give an error dialog saying You can't
select/unselect this package

Re: [Cooker] apache config gui

2003-06-11 Thread bgmilne

I would like to hear what you think about ksambaplugin ... I think
it's good enough to be used by newbie samba admin's, without needing
 SWAT or webmin for anything.

I have not used it yet but if you would like to point me to were I can
get it I'll install and see what can be done.

# urpmi ksambaplugin

(in contrib since before 9.1)

Find it in KDE Control Center-Networking-Samba Configuration.

On a side note your lisa script is working pretty good. I'm able to
browse pretty good. Still by ip's but better than nothing.

If these are IPs on your network, you either need reverse DNS (which can
be done easily with DDNS+DHCP, but we need a gui for this, or possibly by
installing nss_wins, which apparently will work without WINS, but we have
WINS and DDNS).

As for webmin it is simply so easy to use it is a great little tool at
least for somethings and until something as all encompassing comes out
 it's all we got kinda.

I had a bad experience with it once, where it trashed our postfix aliases
file, we had made a lot of changes since backups had run the previous day,
and it lost them all ... so I am very careful with it if I use it ...

Buchan

Still valid in LM9.1 final (I have only XFree 4.3 installed).

Steps to reproduce are:

1. Make sure X is running
2. Start a terminal (say, xterm) and become root. Then run
mv /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 /etc/X11/XF86Config-4.bak
This is to ensure that XFdrake starts afresh.
3. Run XFdrake from the terminal and choose various components (monitor, card etc.)
3. When it asks to test the X configuration, click on yes.
4. XFdrake simply quits with these messages:

Shutting down X Font Server:[ OK ]
Starting X Font Server: [ OK ]
xfs is not running at /usr/lib/libDrakX/Xconfig/test.pm line 47.

yes I don't use it for anything that would touch a config file as far as I
know. That would be shear madness. Well the samba plugin i use to add users,
sync linux user accounts with samba and then I restart but I don't do any of
the things that would mess with smb.conf directly.

  It creates $HOME/.thumbnails/normal/

found because they don't get kreated korrectly.

Well - this isn't just image related - all previews are broken. Text, html,
 etc...

I almost wondered if it wasn't something to do with my iconset, so I
switched to kde default icons and still no joy.

I now also checked every package that owns a lib ldd listed konqueror and
kioslave and kio_thumbnail.so all turned up clean with rpm -V. I have no idea
why this happens if others aren't seeing it.

Line 47 of /usr/lib/libDrakX/Xconfig/test.pm checks if xfs is running. Whats strange
is that
XFdrake first stops xfs and then starts xfs without bothering to check that xfs was
running all

[Cooker] funky install or my mistake?

2003-06-11 Thread John Keller
I just did a clean install of cooker. Selected only GNOME and minimal config
for everything else (didn't want to invest too much time in case install
failed).

Everything installed nicely, but GDM comes up with no words (not empty, just
don't exist -- the icons are nested against each other as a result). I know
the keyboard shortcuts, so I could log in and cancel out of the first-time
wizard. But, as the empty wizard buttons and content area indicated, GNOME's
the same: no fonts.

I've tried a diff -rq on /etc and /usr/share/fonts between this install
and my production 9.1 install, just to see what might be missing. No real
big differences, but then I might just be looking in the wrong places.

I'd done one last urpmi --auto-select on my 9.1-updated-to-cooker
(original install: about three weeks ago, when ldconfig was still giving
problems). I had a working config before I did the new clean install. I'd
have kept the old one for comparison, but I didn't expect there'd be any
differences.

Something I should open a bug on, or is this related to the general
funkiness with GNOME? Or something else?

Hopefully, this isn't just a lack of sleep on my part making me denser than
normal. But I thought I'd risk a newbie-style post before opening a bug.

- John

These packages shouldn't have been uploaded at all (I'm not sure if I was

From what I've been hearing on the list, rpm 4.2 generates those packages
automatically, and putting the following line in your spec file will disable it:

%define debug_package %{nil}

So I guess if next time you update one of those packages you get that -debug

Still valid in LM9.1 final.

I am running XFdrake from a text console (X not running). The problem is that if a
/etc/X11/XF86Config-4 file is present, XFdrake loads it first. So, if the initial
XF86Xonfig-4 file
was configured for the AGP card, XFdrake shows the AGP card but does not list the PCI

The XFdrake options are quit and do (what does do mean ? Why not use change
instead ?). If I press do, only then it shows the list of cards with the PCI card
selected.

[Cooker] [Bug 1146] [Installation] premature network configuration

2003-06-11 Thread [fgriffin]
http://qa.mandrakesoft.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1146

--- Additional Comments From [EMAIL PROTECTED] 2003-11-06 20:35 ---
I tried a network NFS install today. The early providing of the network data
may have skewed the working of the network configuration from Summary.

Anyway, the network showed up as configured lan (no not configured tag), but
when I checked Configure and went through autodetect, the only device box
checked was the modem.

When I went through the configuration, the static info from the network-based
install had been propagated to the dialog, except that the hostname field (which
the dialog specifies must be filled in with the fully-qualified hostname) had
only the simple hostname. This is probably because the network boot prompts
have you enter the host and domain names separately.

Today's cooker seems to be deciding that it needs the network before it's been
configured from the Network tab of the Summary page. It assumes DHCP, and
installs dhcpcd-client, and then appears to hang. The hang is because it is
timing out looking for a DHCP server, and there is none. The hang eventually
times out, but when I actually get the Summary dialog and go to configure the
network, it tells me that the network was already configured and I can leave it
as is.

It doesn't seem to realize that it never managed to connect with DHCP, and it
shouldn't be trying it anyway.

  extern void gl_##pfx##_rescale_normals_##masked## (NORM_ARGS);\
  extern void gl_##pfx##_normalize_normals_##masked## (NORM_ARGS); \

IMHO, the last concatination (##) makes no sense. The concatination is
used to create a new label, but the label ended with 'masked'. If I am
not mistaken, simply removing the last '##' on every of these line
should do the trick. But then, beware, my preprocessor-fu is not worth

If your rpm database is buggy, this should fix. Else, you have really double

This problem isn't even remotely related to free software. Any reasoning
about free software means nothing here.

In those days, RH wants to actively enter both Chinese markets (mainland
and Taiwan). Of course, the mainland side complains that Taiwan flag is
seen in RH product, and they want it removed. And RH do it. Otherwise,
they obviously won't be able to sell it officially at all in mainland
China.

But after Taiwan flag removal, RH becomes the target of Taiwan people,
which you knew already (the complaint bombardment). In order to please
both sides, RH choose to remove ALL flags altogether, to show it's
fairness.

Yet, all these things happen because RH want to enter Chinese market. If
Mandrake doesn't, then why care about it?

1) I am not a mandrake employee.

I think that a ludicrous action like removing the Chinese flag and only
leaving the Taiwanese flag and a smart way of bringing this to the
media will give exactly the kind of publicity that mandrake can use to
live without the support of China. As a second effect it will give a
nice signal to China that their `...' policy works counterproductive.

Of course this should get to the chinese media in non-chinese countries.

I am sure that Stew can point us to a better solution, but I got tired
of my time getting set wrong after a reboot (this was a problem in

That grabs the time from the hardware clock, and shoves it into the
system time.

I hope this helps,

Strange:

[EMAIL PROTECTED] root]# /sbin/hwclock -s date
time in rtc is Sun Jan 10 12:37:51 1904
jeu jan 1 00:59:59 BST 1970

I don't really understand, looks like something is setting
back 1970 at any attempt to change the system clock.

BTW, Sun Jan 10 12:37:51 1904 is strange too. Is it a pmud
side-effect?

I added root=/dev/ram3 to the kernel arguments and now I'm getting the
same error as if I just run through the default options in the Install
madrake linux application. Here's where it looks like it goes wrong:

Crc error6Freeing initrd memory:2517k freed
Kernel panic: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on 01:03
0 Rebooting in 180 seconds

Any more ideas?

(Thanks for your help on this, I hope that a solution can be reached soon)

This is only for the install. To boot the system use root=/dev/sdXX,
where XX=a6, etc. (your linux /).

Don't care much for that Crc error. Bad RAM?

9.1 Installation problems...

2003-06-11 Thread Micah Buckley-Farlee
OK I've searched the archives, can't seem to find a fix, so here goes...
Alright, I start installing, and it installs all of the packages fine,
and then the problems occur. After i have entered the root password,
created my password, and set the auto-login, it tries to install the
bootloader.
At first i get an error box that says:
Installation of bootloader failed. The following error occured:
:Cannot create temp file. aborting.
ybin: An error occured while building first stage loader. aborting...

After dismissing this box, the following text shows up in the
background:
Can't do inplace edit on /mnt/etc/modules.conf: No space left on
device at /usr/lib/perl5/vendor_perl/5.8.0/MDK/Common/File.pm line 226.

Any ideas?

More details on aforementioned MDK9.1 Installation problems

2003-06-11 Thread Micah Buckley-Farlee
Sorry, I forgot to mention some details
(excuse the newbie-ness, i am new to both linux and mailing lists)
This is all on an eMac G4700MHz with 256MB RAM and a 38GB Maxtor HD,
and Geforce 2 MX graphics.
I am installing using the prompt install-gui-benh text video=ofonly
There is nothing else on the hard drive i am using, so I am going with
the Erase hard drive option.
I think that's all.
Sorry once again about the double-emails

I haven't noticed any problems with it. Can you suggest a way of checking
it, or is the only way to remove chips until it works?
