[Cooker] [Bug 5821] [kernel] kernel 2.4.22-9mdk-i686-up-4GB does not boot w/ACPI enabled

2003-11-19 Thread [manuel]
http://qa.mandrakesoft.com/show_bug.cgi?id=5821

--- Additional Comments From [EMAIL PROTECTED] 2003-11-19 21:25 ---
I have a Dell Inspiron 8100 and the option 'nolapic' is not solving the problem
in my case, namely my laptop hangs completely when disconnecting the AC cord and
also when closing the lid. The option 'apic=off' does not work either, nor does
using it together with 'nolapic'.
I have only been able to solve the problem by reverting to the 2.4.21 kernel
shipped with 9.1, that works fine for me so far.

[Cooker] Problem using SIM (ICQ client)

2003-02-18 Thread Manuel FLURY
I've tried to use SIM (sim-icq.sourceforge.net) unsuccessfully with the
latest beta.

The program tries to connect forever (ie. : the green flower becomes
red/green/red ...etc...)

Here is what the log gives me :

sim -02:06:00 [WRN] Socket error

This package works fine with Mdk 9.0 (sim-0.8.1-1mdk.i586.rpm)

The source doesn't compile so, no chance with this.

Any idea ?

lo que esté en mis posibilidades:

Problema: Cuando inicia el sistema y lo hace en modo gráfico, Xwindows,
en unos 30 segundos se sale a tty1 en modo texto, luego entro con
login... pasword... tecleo startx + intro y entra perfectamente aunque
unas veces me falla el sonido, otras la conexión red/internet y otras
incluso el (mouse ubs rueda). Tambien puedo entrar como root y gdm.

[Cooker] Contributing packages (gtranslator, for example)

2002-03-14 Thread Juan Manuel García Molina

Hi all.

I just suscribed yesterday because I'm interested in contributing some
packages to Mandrake.

I wrote Lenny a month ago, but I got no response, so I'll try now in
this list.

I started working for Mandrake Linux (translating) two or three years
ago, and I'd like to keep on contributing by packaging software. I have
read the mdk-rpm howto, and I've followed the steps there. There is
only one thing I can't do: sign my packages (because I dont't have a
*@mandrakelinux.com email address).

OK. Now, I've made gtranslator package. I've placed the SRPMS in
ftp://ftp.linux-mandrake.com/incoming/gtranslator-0.40-1mdk.src.rpm.

So, I've two questions:

1. How can I sign my packages (who can give me a *@mandrakelinux.com
redirection)?

2. I need to know who I should write to add this package to contrib.

Thanks for all.

Regards.

[Cooker] urpmi (gurpmi?) problem

2002-01-11 Thread Jose Manuel Macias Luna

   Hello all,

this is my first post to the list cooker ... and is to inform about
some problems I'm having with MandrakeUpdate.

I'm now using Mandrake Cooker, I upgraded from mandrake 8.1
a couple of days ago. My intention was to use some packages in
Cooker in my laptop running 8.1, but since MandrakeUpdate didn't
work properly, I upgraded to Cooker in the hope it would solve that
   issue.

The main problem was a coredump when doing an update, but
in Cooker I'm getting the same problem too. Yesterday I also upgraded
(by searching the packages in MandrakeUpdate) to urpmi-3.1-5mdk,
gurpmi-3.1-5mdk and rpmdrake-1.4-6mdk. And I have now and
additional problem, now it tries to download the lists with curl (I think
it used wget before). curl is reporting a problem in the arguments
passed and cannot download package lists.

So, what's better ? to delete those packages and reinstall them
manually? to edit some config file and made again wget the download
tool by default ?

And how about that coredump I'm getting when I do an update ?

Thanks a lot, and I'm sorry for reporting so many problems in my
first post to the list ... ;-)

   Regards,

   josé manuel.

These are just my first steps with Cooker ... I'll try don't to make dumb
  questions ... ;-)

You need rpmtools updated, rpm too problably, make sure everything is
 up-to-date in fact.

Ok, I did it ... everything seemed to be up to date ...

 Upgrade curl too.

curl is up to date too ... curl-7.9.2-2mdk and libcurl2-7.9.2-2.mdk, at least, these
are the packages at the ftp.sunet.se mirror ...

You still can use wget (even if curl is installed) by adding --wget to
command line or by removing curl (if possible).

Fine! ... that was the solution, I had to remove curl, and then I removed
the lists (using MandrakeUpdate, not manually) and made a new one
source list from ftp.sunet.se ... perhaps it was a corrupt file ... :-?

And how about that coredump I'm getting when I do an update ?

 What is your /etc/urpmi/urpmi.cfg ? and output of ls -l /var/lib/urpmi ?

Now, after the first problem has been solved, the 'coredump' continues:

- urpmi.cfg file
   ftp.sunet.se  {
hdlist: hdlist.ftp.sunet.se.cz
with_hdlist: synthesis.hdlist.cz
list: list.ftp.sunet.se
synthesis
   }
--

   and ...

-- ls -l/var/lib/urpmi
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 13973 ene 3 16:53 compssUsers.flat
-rw--- 1 root root 246185 ene 11 16:47 list.ftp.sunet.se
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 132349 ene 11 08:06
synthesis.hdlist.ftp.sunet.se.cz
---

It happens when I try to make a complete update (the right button in
Mandrake Update), or the 'update wizard' when I start MandrakeUpdate.
If I have enough time this weekend, I'll try to analize the core file by myself ...

The problem would be not to report them at all, or the best is to fix by
yourself and send me the patch.

Thanks, François ... that's the spirit in such a development and testin'
  list ...

   best regards,

  jose.

[Cooker] Fresh Install 15-sep 2:24

2001-09-14 Thread Manuel de Vries

Hi,

I just installed the latest Cooker and I am very impressed by the
current state of the distribution.

I didn't find any showstoppers, just a few minor things:

- As mentioned in an earlier mail by someone else, it would be a lot
more clear if the installation dialogs had a blinking cursor.

- Control Center:
During installation I did not select a printer.
When clicking on printer in CC, it automatically starts installing
files. In addition these files can not be found:
 printer_filters_1.0
 printer_testpages
 printer_utils

- CC: Any reason why userDrake is not part of CC?

- During installation no SCSI was found (correct), but according
to syslog it is still loading the SCSI module. Is this perhaps because
  I have a CD-writer?

- Error in syslog: DrakX: ERROR: Insmod'ing module floppy failed:
  modules.pm line 552

- No idea if the following error is useful for you:
Error in syslog: devfsd[52] error calling: symlink in GLOBAL

- GnomeToaster comes up with a blank screen

- What's the difference between MandrakeUpdate and Software Manager?
Do we really need them both in the Packaging menu?

- Kdbg, crags and qtdesigner only appear in the flat list in Softw.Man.
Not in the tree view (at least not under Development)

- Mandrake Doc and Howtos were both not working from the menu.

Hope this helps,

Thanks a lot,

Manuel

Re: [Cooker] USB Keyboard in hd.img

2001-03-09 Thread Manuel de Vries

But on the first question the installation halts, because the
keyboard
does not respond at all! This means that I cannot type the location
of
 Cooker!

Does it respond at boot stage? ("F1" and so on)

Yes, in the boot stage the keyboard is working. It is when the screen
switches to graphics-mode and asks for the path of cooker that the
keyboard does not respond anymore.

[Cooker] USB Keyboard in hd.img

2001-03-08 Thread Manuel de Vries

Installed Beta1 yesterday form CD. I was very impressed.
Microsoft Natural Keyboard Pro (USB) recognised and working.

Downloaded Cooker today. Used hd.img to try installing.
But on the first question the installation halts, because the keyboard
does not respond at all! This means that I cannot type the location of
Cooker!

There were some other (smaller) problems with Beta1, but I first want
to check in Cooker if they are still there. Hopefully this will be
fixed soon :)

Thanks,

Manuel

[Cooker] Hi! (new member)

2001-02-26 Thread Juan Manuel García Molina

Hi!

I have just subscribed to the list, and I will introduce myself at first.

My name is Juan Manuel Garca Molina, I'm spanish and I'm 23 years old.
I am a Computer Engineer, and I work in a small company related to the
Internet.

And ... what about Linux Mandrake?
Well, I started with Linux a few years ago (4 years. I think). In the
distros., I've worked with RedHat, Slackware, SuSe, Corel and Mandrake.
Now, I've 2 machines: an AMD K6-2 with Mandrake 7.1, and an AMD Athlon with
Mandrake 7.2.
Mainly, I work with K6 (Mandrake 7.1).
Other things related to Linux: I translate a few packages into Spanish (KDE,
GNOME and Linux-Mandrake).

Well, and ... how may I help?
I was thinking in contributing some packages related to multimedia.
I am interested in XMPS, like XMMS, but allows to see audio/video contents,
and OMI (mainly, for playing DVD under Linux).
I make a few rpms fot that packages, but they need "Mandrakizing" to suit
this distro, so I will have to work a little bit in them.

Mainly, this is me. Any comments, suggests, etc. will be wellcome.

Thanks.

There is already a xmps package in contrib, that was not trivial to
realize... You should have a look and merge with yours.

Well, I'll begin to work in OMI, and later I'll see the XMPS package.

[Cooker] KERNEL 2.4.1

2001-02-12 Thread Manuel Durán Aguete

Hi,

I'm trying to install the 2.4.1 linux kernel in Mandrake 7.2

ftp.kernel.org). It's compiles ok, but when I boot the system the boot
process freezes on "Uncompressing Linux Kernel..." and nothing happen.s

I compile the kernel with "make bzImage;make modules;make
install" and then I configure LILO.

My system is a 450 MHz PII, QDI Brilliant I (440 BX) with 128MB
RAM and Leadtek Winfast 2300.

I've probed with 2.4.0 and the same occurrs.

    Any idea?

[Cooker] Mirror fixed :) + setup still fails :(

2000-12-28 Thread Manuel de Vries

Hi,

First of all thanks to the one who fixed the mirror-problem!

This enabled me to do another test of the cooker install.
And it did improve a bit. No more messages about failing insmod'ing.
But now I am stuck because of the following error:
mount failed: no such device.
When I switch to the other console, it shows the following message:
missing module vfat
This is just after the packdrake tries to retrieve it.

When I switched to console 1, it showed scrolling GDK warnings:
locale not supported by c library at /usr/bin/perl-install/my_gtk.pm
line 178

Before I get stuck the probing mechanism reports a scsi-interface
(imm, ppa) even though I do not have a scsi-device in my machine. Is this
perhaps because of the CD-writer? Or because of the Pentium 3?

Keep up the good work!

Manuel

[Cooker] Clean cooker-install from hd.img

2000-12-26 Thread Manuel de Vries

Hi,

I just tried cooker for the first time since 7.2 came out.
Unfortunately, I did not get very far.
In the step "Hard Drive Detection" I get the error:
An Error occurred: insmod'ing ide-cd failed.
When I look at the console, it shows the following error:
Warning insmod'ing module ide-cd failed at
  /usr/bin/per-install/modules.pm line 486.

How can I fix this?

Manuel

P.S. Should I send this sort of information to the mailing list, or
should I enter them at https://qa.mandrakesoft.com or both?

[Cooker] Installation Report 25-10-2000

2000-10-25 Thread Luis Manuel de Vries

Hi,

My compliments to Mandrake! Last week I tried the 7.2beta and I got all
sorts of strange problem (sound not working first time, reboot sometimes
worked, hanging machine, etc).
This morning I made a new mirror and tried the current version of
7.2beta and everything worked fine!

Just to make the nice installation a bit better here are a few minor
issues:

- In the other languages installation screen, the TAB-key is not working
correctly (it just acts like a down key in the list).
- In the package percentage selection screen, the control right of the
percentage can be set to 101%.
- My network card (3Com 3c900B) is detected twice! (Even though I only
have 1 installed :) It is not really a problem, because everything works
fine, it is just a bit strange.
- After the installation, if I look in the Hardware overview, my Plextor
CD-writer (PlexWriter 8/4/32) is present twice: once as an IDE (correct)
and once as a SCSI (incorrect). This is also not really a problem,
because I can read from it from /mnt/cdrom2. I never tried writing a CD
under Linux, so I don't know if this is affected.

That's all,

Thanks,

Manuel

Re: [Cooker] install from hd doesn't work

2000-10-22 Thread Luis Manuel de Vries

The image should be about 1.3GB you must have missed a bunch of rpms
My download was the wrong size, because I downloaded the cooker dir
instead of the 7.beta dir. (Q:what is the 450MB cooker dir used for
then?)

After downloading the correct files, I tried an install from hd. No
mounting problems anymore!

There were some other problems though:

- tiny bug: when selecting the percentage of packages that you want to
install, you can select 101% if you use the + and - next to the
percentage. the + and - below the percentage are OK.

- Shouldn't there be an option to install everything (all packages)?

- my 3COM 3c900B-TPO ethernet card was correctly identified, but after
selecting NO to the question if I have more network cards, the 3COM is
recognised again! After selecting NO this time everything goes OK. The
card did install OK, because I could reach the internet from the
desktop.

- Perhaps the differences between LILO and Grub can be pointed out on
the bootloader-screen (I don't know them, I always use LILO).

- My Microsoft Keyboard Pro is not recognised according to DrakConf even
though it seems to work fine. The only problem is that on booting and
shutting down, I get the error that there are too many KNACKS in the
cable? When I use the PS/2 plug instead of the USB plug, I do not get
this error.

- When I enter the desktop the first time after install, my soundcard
(SB 1024 Live!) is not working. Configuring in DrakConf results in an
error as well as configuring in sndconfig. But when I boot the second
time (or any time after that) sound is working fine! After adding in the
"+notify" even the KDE-sounds worked.

- I have two CDROM-drives in my machine:
   - Creative 52X (CD5230E) (IDE)
   - Plexwriter 8/4/32A (IDE)
The Creative drive is working fine. The Plextor is working OK, but it
is not configured properly. In DrakConf it appears twice, once as an IDE
with an unidentified vendor and once as a SCSI (which I don't have in my
machine) with the vender Plextor.

- A big problem is that when I reboot from linux (Reboot-command in
XWindows), LILO loads, but when I select linux I get a CRC-error and my
machine comes to a full stop. When I do a cold reboot then, linux loads
fine again...until I do a reboot.

[Cooker] install from hd doesn't work

2000-10-21 Thread Luis Manuel de Vries

Hi,

This morning I downloaded the latest version of cooker from one of the
mirrors.
I created a bootdisk (hd.img) and ran the install. But after selecting
the partitions, I got an error. The setup is trying to mount the
partition containing the cooker-dir. But this partition is already
mounted!

Another question I have is about the size. The mirror is around 450 MB.
The beta 7.2 of Linux Mandrake was 2 CD's. What files are missing and
where can I find them?

Thanks,

Manuel

As I understood it, enlightenment-conf is outdated in E

That's correctRaster and company have decided that E outgrew
E-conf and added a bunch of config dialogs to the right-click menu

I think that's why it's no longer included.

   That'd be my guess :)

I don't think so. When inserting the MDK-CD in w2k it say's:

When you just boot from CD of FD everything works fine.

[Cooker] Install-menu and update-menus

2000-05-24 Thread Manuel Amador (Rudd-O)

I am definitely not amused at the new feature, introduced in the Cooker.
My GNOME System menus were destroyed when I installed the Cooker.
Since I can't get them back, is there a way of adding menu items by hand
and NOT getting automaticallly deleted?
Will there be a way to offer an upgrade path to all those RPMs that
use .desktop files directly into the apps menu of the /usr/share/gnome
hierarchy?
How are you planning on internationalizing /usr/lib/menu ?
Thanks for your time.
