[Cooker] gtk tabs not clearing
Using libgtk+1.2-1.2.10-25mdk. Has anyone else noticed that gtk apps that use tabs (multi-gnome-terminal and galeon are the only two I know of) don't clear away a tab that you've closed? It's merely failing to redraw that section of the screen. If you shade/unshade or momentarily cover it with another window (or anything triggers an X redraw), it will be correct again. This is a recent bug, I don't think it was present in beta3. It's present in beta4 through current cooker.

Under that framebuffer, everything is working normally. It's easy enough to have another lilo entry that works normally.

[Cooker] beta3 install notes
MDK 8.2beta3 == total ownage! Great work everyone! I spent several hours yesterday trying to get dri working on my new Dell (Radeon VE) after installing redhat 7.2. After compiling a new kernel, new xfree86, new drm and ati (from gatos), it still didn't work. Gatos and ati's drm seem to be really disorganized. After installing beta3, dri worked out of the box, all hardware was perfectly detected and configured. I'm now happily playing Chromium within 30 seconds of completing the installation :) A few minor notes: During the installtion, I was mucking around with the disk setup and noticed that if you failed to format a partition, you get a mount failed error message that doesn't help very much. It would be nice if the error message, at least, listed which filesystem(s) failed to mount. On the Package Selection page, Scientific Workstation doesn't have a popup description. Also, the popup decriptions need a border or a contrasting color background. During the package installation, the Internet and Messaging page has text that overlaps the icon at the top, kinda awkward looking. Same with the Games page, and the MandrakeCampus page. Some awkward English during the package installation pages: 09-MDKcampus.pl: and most of all free way?, sounds odd to me, but I can't think of a concise way to say it better. 12-MDKstore.pl: available on our e-store, did anyone else cringe when they saw the buzzword-complient term: e-store? 13-Nvert.pl To access to more commercial informations, please contact us on the following toll free:, is just wrong. How about, For information on our commercial services, please contact us at the following toll free number: Also, at least in the US, the 1 is seperated from the area code like 1-877-MDKCORP or (877)-MDKCORP. I prefer the first form. Want to get to know the Open Source community. Be a Part? Set root password, if the passwords don't match, the cursor should return to the first password box. The Summary page looks awkward with 5 rows (mouse, keyboard, timezone, printer, and sound card), but only the first 4 have buttons to change those settings. Sound card is floating around looking really weird. It leaves the user wondering if it should be a button. Pretty insignificant stuff so far. Again, great work! This problem has persisted from 8.2beta1 to current cooker. I've reinstalled numerous times using beta1 and beta2 CDs. All packages are current as of this morning. A few of the gnome rpms I have installed: GConf-1.0.8-1mdk gnome-utils-1.4.1.2-1mdk gnome-core-1.4.0.6-2mdk gnome-control-center-1.5.11-4mdk libgnome32-1.4.1.4-2mdk gnome-common-1.2.4-3mdk gnome-vfs-1.0.4-3mdk Trying to start galeon results in the following error: ** WARNING **: GConf error: Failed to contact configuration server (a likely cause of this is that you have an existing configuration server (gconfd) running, but it isn't reachable from here - if you're logged in from two machines at once, you may need to enable TCP networking for ORBit) GConf Error: Failed to contact configuration server (a likely cause of this is that you have an existing configuration server (gconfd) running, but it isn't reachable from here - if you're logged in from two machines at once, you may need to enable TCP networking for ORBit) gconfd-1 just exits with an exit code of 1. Re: [Cooker] we want xine in main distribution :-)
I couldn't agree more, if you want to play DVDs, Ogle owns all. On Thu, Feb 21, 2002 at 12:15:17PM -0500, Jason Straight alleged: xine sucks anyway, Ogle rules. With current witch-hunt for napster client, i think potential legal problems are currently main Mandrake concern, even if i never saw any official position on this topic. So, which is the best way to have at least an explanation on this subject, or much better, make this position evolves ? Aren't there patent issues. Re: [Cooker] smb shares in MDK8.2 beta 2
smbmount is asking for a password in the background, specify password= in fstab. On Tue, Feb 12, 2002 at 06:25:25PM +0100, Rene Schumann alleged: Yes, but if the SMB Server is down in the network? That was my report here, that the booting then stops for over 10 minutes until i press ENTER.
