Re: [Cooker] Sblive and alsa.
Should I nead to have anything in /etc/modules.conf to run drakconf and get it to work? Btw /etc/rc.d/init.d/alsa still don't load any modules for me since upgrading. There seems to be another script /etc/rc.d/init.d/alsasound THis script don't load the oss compability modules for me. (it seams like it load the other.) I have some problem to get the sound working since I upgraded from kernel 2.4.18-8mdk to 2.4.18-12mdk If I run draconf and try to configure my card I get can't locate sound-slot0 At start when /etc/rc.d/init.d/alsa runs it don't start my sound. Hi I have a Soundblaster live 5.1 with Boston Accoustic Digital speakers connected to it. Mandrake 8.1 and the 8.2b come with a working SBLive driver but not with the emu tools necessary to configure the Soundcard for digital output. Would be a nice inclusion to the distro. Maybe at one point it will also be a 'checkable' option in the one of the various Mixers or other gui-configurations available. Serge

Me too I have a Sblive. Since Mandrake 7.02, I do not need to do anything. The sound is configured automaticly. But I don't like the driver version supplied ( no offense ) by Mandrake. [Cooker] SBLIVE Sound in 7.1b?
I installed 7.1b from burnt iso's today..seems pretty nice...however: i can't get any sound... in kde control center it says no info available - and in HardDrake it detects it, says Creative Labs SB Live! under Soundcard, but when i click Run Configuration Tool, it brings up an error window: Configuration tool error. Can't find Harddrake module! the needed configuration tool hasn't been found. Check your Harddrake installation. and when i run sounddrake it detects it and has it selected (with -1's for each field at bottom) when i click test I hear linus torvald's pronounciation skills, all seems good, but when i click OK it says: Error in play call! sox: Can't open output file '/dev/dsp': No such device then brings up box saying Playing a sample... but doesn't do anythingany help?

with the 7.0 iso-1 install: microphone is turned on. is there a mute "switch"? this concerns the sblive soundcard/drivers. maybe this is updated in the iso-2? With it unmuted, the sound is scratchy. turning it down does help, but muting would show much better results (as such, turning that 'line' off!). get the same on 01.05.2000 drivers. ftp://24.13.20.26/pub/sblive think i got the one that work on my ftp (unsure, should tho' for b/u) from what i understand, they did alittle work on i/o stuff. Okay...no matter what I do...no matter how many times I try, I keep getting errors when trying to setup my sound card. Yup, Yup! works "almost" like a charm. if you want to do another task other than watch/listen to realplayer, it "will" (not might), will crash! think they did this purposely to frustrate us! Once i got my sound working (dunno if plugger helped) but it now works. Also, it's an updated RealPlayer G2 rpm. ftp://24.13.20.26/pub/network/ It just might need sound to work, not sure. In past, have had major difficulties with it until i d/l'd this recent rpm from www.real.com (rpm) within the past 2 mos. give it a try and see if it works now. kinda curious if it was my sound or if it was just the old package (probabely the later). found out that i had to install the "plugger rpm" to get midi working on webpages from w/i netscape. dunno where i found the rpm, but after tinkering with the sblive/sources, figured that it's possible i used something else to get it working. guess i did. I've uploaded the plugger rpm (plugin for midi and other filetypes) to my ftp @ ftp://24.13.20.26/pub/sblive/ Also, have RealPlayer G2 (redhat rpm) up within the /network folder. -- Sent from: Lattitude (deg):32.7130 Longitude (deg):-117.1530 Altitude (ft): 410.0 GMT to Local (hrs): -8.0 (daylight savings enabled) Created with Linux-Mandrake 6.1! http://www.linux-mandrake.com/ Currently Beta Testing Mandrake Ver 7.0 (CODE NAMED: OXYGEN)

[Cooker] SBLive
Hey guys, I'm looking for sblive /proc/pci entry's, we have the generic mask, and the specific entry for the MP3+, but thats all so we can do a generic id, but only a full id on the one. So if you have a sblive, thats not an mp3+ please send me a copy of your /proc/pci -- MandrakeSoft http://www.mandrakesoft.com/ --Axalon

Re: [Cooker] sblive (soundblaster live) and smp enabled
Also, just went my website that has midi sound on it and guess what? It works! Usually netscape will wine and complain about a pluggin required! dunno if this was mandrake or sblive, but the sblive had some troubles with midi. i'll stop on this matter since this is resolved and i burned an email off to the ~email (sblive instruction site) on the makefile configuration issue. Sounds like this is the main reason for it not being within the kernel yet (or whatever)...bummer. Re: [Cooker] sblive (soundblaster live) and smp enabled
Yup, it works.(gleefully trying to restrain my self endulged over-excitement) had to reinstall the rpm "licq-data*" since it didn't install the sounds. also, sounds are found in the /usr/share/licq* dir. should they really be located within the /home/[user]/.licq directory? not complaining one bit! got sblive installed, cd-rw apperantly working (if not, i made the orange light flash and one coaster!). i'll email that persons site and let him know of what i had to do, if the bug is at his end. now just for this stupid lexmark 2050 paper weightmaybe i'll be able to make the cartridges move sometime soon! Re: [Cooker] sblive (soundblaster live) and smp enabled
O.k. resolved it. went into the /emu10k1/Makefile and change the follwoing: smp = y modversions = y and then recompiled. went fine this timestill have to check to see if the sound works! looks like it should according to my previous installs. (no errors showing so far). [Cooker] sblive (soundblaster live) and smp enabled
using directions found at: http://www.euronet.nl/~mailme/index3.html and downloaded the most recent snapshot from: ftp://opensource.creative.com/pub/snapshots (emu10k1.tar.gz) i get the following error when initiating the /sbin/depmod -a command: /lib/modules/2.2.14-11mdksmp/misc/emu10k1.o: unresolved symbols(s) when doing the modprobe/insmod emu10k1, get tons of unresolved symbols. as usual, i just recompile the kernel to get rid of the "unresolved symbols" and then the sound works for sblive. -- Sent from: Lattitude (deg):32.7130 Longitude (deg):-117.1530 Altitude (ft): 410.0 GMT to Local (hrs): -8.0 (daylight savings enabled) Created with Linux-Mandrake 6.1! http://www.linux-mandrake.com/ Currently Beta Testing Mandrake Ver 7.0 (CODE NAMED: OXYGEN)
